I think he used “was” and not “am” because he realized it in the past-tense. He didn’t say “I realize I was alone”, he said “I realized I was alone”. It’s possible that means he doesn’t think he’s alone anymore, but it’s not quite so clear.

The answer is no, it’s cause he like 3 days old and knows no one but an elf who was yeeted off a magic floating island and a mage with an ego as sprawling as the singing caves, and thus he is alone. Of course he isn’t counting Cthulu, Dark Floof, and Dad Floof as people he knows
