Just when she’s started finding people in her life that aren’t in fear of her and shunning her, this happens. Destructive, demonic energy monsters can be such bigots.
You’d expect better from from an entity that possess people.
Kendal: *walks himself into the middle of a pitched battle between life and death magic*
Kendal: Look, I just need to get underground and get my brain back. Can we do that first at least?
Erin: Why were you hiding in a tree?!?!
Alinue: Because I can’t leave this inosent and gullible child alone for 5 minutes without perental supervision!
Kendal: *shrugs* That’s fair
I don’t know if this has been noticed before but I was rewatching Trope Talk:Paragons and the first couple images are totally Kendal.

There’s also the Strong Female Characters trope talk, where Alinua is seen (although with very chiseled facial features)
“No one looks good on their first draft” (if I got the quote correct)
So, I just checked the Paragon trope talk, and the first image that pops up shows proto-Kendal asking someone to join his group… someone who looks very similar to Erin. A few images later, we see proto-Kendal in the forefront, with proto-Erin behind him. Next to proto-Erin is a figure with long, floofy hair and green eyes (proto-Alinua) and a figure with rusty hair and an eyepatch. On the sketches page of this website, there are multiple sketches of people with an eye missing (some of them look like as-of-yet unseen characters, but a few of them look suspiciously like Kendal to me…), so maybe this dynamic soon-to-be trio will expand to a power quartet (or, in the immortal words of Sokka, “Fearsome Foursome”)
And now to debunk my own hypothesis (yes, I know it wasn’t in if/then format):
The image from the trope talk I mentioned showed the rusty-haired character wearing an dispatch over their LEFT eye, while the sketches show people with their RIGHT eyes missing
In the rule of three trope talk there’s what looks to be a drawing of every part member during the power trio part! Definitely Kendal, definitely Alinua, probably Erin, definitely lion character from sketches some drawings she did, probably metallic character from sketches and the background of a few panels, eyepatch character, and a character with big sleeves I think has also been in some sketches.
So the question we all should have been asking for the last few pages was not “where is Alinua?” but rather “where did that tree in the middle of a blasted wasteland come from?”
Philosophy of Alinua: When in doubt, tree.
Love the energy of authority around Ali and how Erin is starting to register that he may not be the most interesting being on the planet.
I like forcefully alinua, she is so cool X)
Random tree in the middle of a wasteland, history so far is pretty much just saving eachother, yep. This was probably really obvious.

because of course she’s a tree
That’s arguably one of the best entrances I’ve come across in any media whatsoever.
You said it!
Honestly it’s 100% my fault for not thinking she was inside the one tree in this entire desert
thus begins the saga of alinua momming the shit out of kendal

Nobody:
Not a soul:
Not even the literally souls stuck in Vash-Rock:
Alinua: T R E E
For the record, I saw this coming yesterday.
Just literal, not literally.
When you really want to flex, you seal someone else into a tree.
Part of me thinks that might happen to Erin at some point
Erin: Why were you hiding in a tree?!?!
Alinue: Because I can’t leave this inosent and gullible child alone for 5 minutes without perental supervision!
Kendal: *shrugs* That’s fair
That’s “innocent” and “parental”.
The possessing entity was afraid of Alinua because they could sense her Annoyed Mom Energy from a kilometer away
Alinua: spontaneously appears from the middle of a tree
Utgard-Loki: UNORTHODOX DISPLAY OF HUBRIS, BUT VERY WELL.
I appreciate this juxstuposition
The Good cop Bad cop routine. Classic.
Hell yeah power trio assembled

But Mooooommm! You were ????, can I keep it?

*eyepatch, autocorrect, not dispatch

Holy carp, that was badass!
All other comments: “Badass Entry” or “Parental Alinua”
Me: “Ooh, shiny!”

Well done Red, well done.
I just assumed that Alinua grew it there while Erin was asleep before taking a little nature walk alone
Alinua: *steps out of the tree*
Me: hoooo boy im gay
Thanks to that page description I’ll never again be able to see the life elemental without hearing the pacman ghost warbles.
Of course I’m going to hide in a tree, I don’t have advantage on checks for life magic for nothin

called it! Totally called it
Alinua’s face in the third panel
TL;DR: Floof mcNicetats was being a helicopter parent by hiding in a tree, reminds Vashn’t that she’s disintegrateable.

These 3 are like a living rock, paper, scissors game I love it
Emerged from a tree she seeks an explanation
For the things that happened she wants a causation
