Judging by the falling rubble and the angle of Dainix’s head, I’d say he sees some crazy glowing roots and cracking stone. My prediction for next page is Erin and Alinua will emerge all cool-like from the rubble and go “Get the h*ll out of here!”. But they could also be looking at the very cool thing in front of them, my guess is that it’s a map of the skies somehow? Could be an Ancient attempt to contact the Lady, if I’m correct in that She is connected to the stars (the moon Shield?) as well as starmetal. My bet is that the structure on the floor is a solar system, and the planets/moons/stars are lacrimas.
This was too much of a rant for me to try fitting it into couplets.
I still think you gave solid suggestions @Ongoing! I am sure you can still find a rhyme to add to the thread as well! Please!
If you mean the ginger bois (Dainix & Falst) I think falling rock and some cracks in the ceiling. The rub is how far the tunnel goes down. (Can’t wait til next page drops) (I mean I can, but my inner child is hopping around that my body can’t do so well any more.)
I can’t help but admire the mix of Erin’s stone magic (in white) and Alinua’s Life magic (in green) in panels 4 through 6. I would give it two thumds up if I were Ebert & Siskel (for those who remember them) Another wonderful example of showing rather describing, Red!
Well, I’ve noticed the borb has reached something that looks like brickwork (unless that’s just Erin breaking off box–shaped chunks, but judging by panel four I don’t think so).
Also, the last two panels match up – it’s the same space. But…
For some reason I don’t think team redhead’s seen that yet… if it’s even fully literal.
It reminds me of the room at the end of Portal. With all the ancient tech around, I feel like it’s probably going to be something like that I would feel weird to leave this arc without fleshing out the falst/tech thing a little more.
Didn’t they go through a door marked “LACRIMA RESEARCH VOIDHAMER” at the end of the last chapter? I think that’s what they’re seeing. A “voidhamer” does not sound like a good thing to get too close to.
From the phrasing of the question, along with the alt text, it makes me think that it’s definitely something that was there before, not Erin and Alinua breaking in.
It seems like they’ve entered some sort of laboratory. specifically, “LACRIMA RESEARCH VOIDHAMER”. so i’m guessing that they’ve found some really cool experiment or maybe whatever “voidhammer” is.
Nope, the previous elemental magus died 130 years ago according to 1-6-2. This page does imply however that Erin’s mother is a mage, probably a stone one.
his mom is still alive, and there’s some drawings of a woman under the “Sketches” tab that some have theorized to be Erin’s mom. The lady in the sketch appears to have Stone tattoos.
Also apparently the sketches tab has disappeared–please let me know if it’s just me or if it’s gone for y’all too.
I think red mentioned on the tumblr a while back that she had to get rid of the sketches page due to some kind of technical difficulty with the site and like Creature Tamer said, most of the sketches were outdated anyway
For some reason, my first thought is “Planetarium”. Something about the way the Lacrimas are arranged implies “projector” and I suppose I associate that with planetariums, no matter the setting.
FUCKIN’ FAN FICTION
I should never have given you my reading list, oh no
I have been defeated, you did your homework
lets call it a draw.
MY HOMEWORK?
I handed it win already, why you asking’?
That borb is determined to find Falst and hit him on the head Ruunaser-style. Or will his reflexes be quick enough to catch it?
Good to know Alinua’s minimising the risk of a cave in; I bet that was also something she took into account during the Zuurith prison break tree. Should also give the boys some roots and vines to climb to get out … and any cave crawlers, automatons and/or giant spiders that decide to follow them. That could be a problem.
So Erin’s mother: Did everything she could to make Tess comfortable, under Galen’s house rules; has standards of stupidity the gang can only dream of; and makes fancy magic look easy. She sounds pretty cool and I can’t wait to see her in the comic, do fancy magic, and embarrass Erin in front of his friends.
Hmm, the magic is only just reaching the room the orange boys are in; it’ll still take time to get the root structure in and move the earth. Time enough for things to get complicated underground.
Prediction for next week: Honestly not sure what Dainix and Falst have come across. It could be something relating to the automatons as we see a few broken ones in the final panel. From the shape of the room it could be similar to the observatory they fought the spider and crawlers in, only this time they have a moment to enjoy it. Maybe the final destination for those lacrimas we saw in that room to be put to practical use. Whatever it is, it must not (initially anyway) appear to be a threat, otherwise they’d have booked it.
Erin’s a pretty powerful mage, as far as raw channeling potential is concerned, so for him to praise his mother for making feats equal to this, or perhaps even greater, look easy… I look forward to seeing her potential.
I wonder if that room could be a magical forge of sorts, some final assembly room for automatons? Possibly where their lacrimas were installed?
The way I see it the difference between Erin and his Mon, it’s quite literally the difference between Aang and Toph/Katara. Aang is powerful and skilled in the 4 elements, yes, but due to the nature of his powerset he never really dove deep into what one singular element can do, while Katara and Toph, who can only bend one did, so while Aang might have more raw power at his disposal, when ot comes to one specific set he is just outclassed by someone who truly devoted themselves to it.
You know, I could be wrong, but there are some faint lines around the lacrimas in the last panel that make it look like they might be moving. So…they’re hovering in mid-air and spinning around something?
To me, it looks like those are etchings in the stone. Aurora sound & motion effects tend to be lighter than their surroundings, unless they’re blood or void.
Something tells me Dainix and Falst aren’t looking at their rescuers, but what the room is holding. It kind of reminds me of the little pedestal thing Erin messed with several real life years ago with the different colored symbols.
I know folks are all saying “planetarium” and such, but to me that circle looks way, way too small for that — plus everything being at the same distance would make no sense.
To me, it looks disturbingly similar to the layout one might use to try to either trap or concentrate something… for example, Void energy.
For mobile readers.
Alt-text: can’t possibly take them THAT long
Looks like something to do with the elements judging by the colours. I’d imagine it’s the Ancient’s lacrima manufacturing ring.
3 quarters of the way to 100. Unsure if I’ll continue when I get there, but eh.
Aurora Question #75: What do you think they’re looking at?
Judging by the falling rubble and the angle of Dainix’s head, I’d say he sees some crazy glowing roots and cracking stone. Ask and ye shall receive:
The starry sky they see before
Them, stretching out upon the floor

Your mom, Erin? Hmmmmmmm. So was she an Earth Mage, or am I missing something lol
im pretty sure he said his mum was the previous elemental mage or whatever its called
Nah the former elemental magus died like over a 100 years ago, she’s probably just a stone mage

If i remember correctly the sketches tab has been discontinued because of it being obsolete or something
its gone gone 🙁
I tried multiple computers and accounts still didn’t see it
I think red mentioned on the tumblr a while back that she had to get rid of the sketches page due to some kind of technical difficulty with the site and like Creature Tamer said, most of the sketches were outdated anyway
Wouldn’t the fact that Alinua reminded him of his mum suggest his mum is a life mage?
Yeah, it seemed like that to me too, I just figured the sketchonauts probably know better. Of course, he could also be talking about magic in general?
Wait, his mother?
The roots go down, and they shall too
With comments about the mother he knew
Also where are Dainix and Falst? What is that room they’re in?
Yeah! Thank you @Ongoing you have uplifted me poetically today!
ERIN’S MOM LORE
From the sketches, I assumed she was a stone mage, and I guess I was right.
ooooh Erin lore
I got a CHARACTER SHEET now,
I hope you stinkers was worth it.
Love,
aris
For those wondering what’s in the cave, I’m betting on there being a second void dragon.
I just think that if there was a second void dragon, it would probably be put down there.
Everyone knows nothing bad ever comes from mysterious magic circles you find in a weird abandoned place
Especially Erin.
Especially when it concerns the ancients.
For some reason, my first thought is “Planetarium”. Something about the way the Lacrimas are arranged implies “projector” and I suppose I associate that with planetariums, no matter the setting.
A interest thought, I’ll give you bragging snaps if you turn out correct! (smile)
*sigh* my brain some days. I am now hearing Metallica screaming “Planetarium” to the sounds of “Sanitarium”
go borb go find the cat boy
So long as the cat boy doesn’t eat the borb.

oh hello? One lacrima from each element arranged in a circle ?
Ooh that’s a boss fight room.. HUAGH
Getting some mlp fim flashbacks from thatlast panel
I’ve decided that stone+life is my favorite combination of magic being used at the same time, at least aesthetically. why does it looks so cool :0
Red’s art just keeps getting better! I want to eat it.
Probably because while life magic is a very saturated green, stone magic is a greenish gray. The color combination looks very pleasing.
Awww. I can see that fondness for his mom in Erin’s expression in panel three. It’s really sweet, man!
…I wonder what she’ll say when she finds out her son got himself possessed by the VOID DRAGON.
“But MOM, all the other mages are getting possessed by primordials” *Gestures at Alinua*
I think everyone on this page needs an escavacation.

Love that panel with the message bird.

Toph and the Foggy Swamp tribe, name a more iconic duo.
TL;DR: A mission to one-up, er, rescue. Yeah. Rescue.
