I think there’s a very significant chance that would infect her with Void Corruption. Not an insurmountable problem for her, especially with the first void mage right there, but still a bit of a problem.
In this corner, we have the Elemental Magus, the Dark Avatar, and the most hubristic man alive, Erin Ruunaser!
In the other corner, we have Jeff, the Goo of Horrors!
Tune in Wednesday to witness this amazing spectacle!
Aurora TV is not for predicting the future. In the case that we are wrong about the day of the event, we are not responsible for reimbursments. Not responsible for loss of popcorn, floof, or mental stability.
I’m not sure if the glort is getting bigger/stronger or if fire/life are just having no effect on it. Since at this point we’re assuming the glort is void-based, I guess it’s possible that it’s able to consume or warp magic. Presumably it can’t eat through base elements since it was trapped underground until now.
Ironically, ‘starving’ it of magic to eat and just punching it might be the best course of action. Seemed to be working OK for Falst before.
I think your theory is correct, and I want to see what Erin will do when his powers will only make it stronger. I’m also kinda hoping he trauma eyes so we get hints about his backstory.
Also, 8th panel gives DND vibes of “Erin’s player subtly trying to get Alinua to tell him about the Glort’s eye power, so he can avoid some trauma saving throws without metagaming”
I’m beginning to think that maybe our heroes CAN’T kill this thing, and the best we can hope for is that Erin is able to gather it together and seal it inside something it can’t consume (in my mind, Erin is able to make Adamant, although I’m unsure if this is possible in universe). And of course, Kendal and Tess will no doubt charge in soon, although I doubt they’ll have much of an effect either. Perhaps Kendal would be immune to it, if it IS Void-powered? Perhaps starfire could kill it? Or perhaps it’ll make it even stronger?
It is absolutely possible for Erin to make adamant. Quote: “Because fused materials can only be CREATED OR DESTROYED by a mage with power over every component element. To unmake your adamant prison, you needed an Elemental Magus.” – Erin, p. 1.7.20 (emphasis mine)
Okay, I finally caved and just looked it up on the Tumblr. Judging by what little informatino is there, Erin should be able to make Adamant, yes, but he may be limited in how much he can produce. Red explained that it is possible to produce very small quantities of Adamant using lacrimae, but that such a task would drain the lacrimae too fast to generate a larger amount.
We don’t know how much magic Erin can safely channel, so we don’t know how much Adamant he would be able to produce. We ALSO don’t know everything about how Erin’s magic works. We’ve seen that he needs to touch a tattoo before using the corresponding type, and we know from Tess that there are secrets he hasn’t shared with the group about how his magic works. Clearly he can use multiple types at once (conjuring lava from stone and fire, and freezing the rain with wind and water) and purge traces of every element at once (allowing him to enter the Storm). He also fixed the Pedestal, although I can’t be sure how.
My point is, we’re just assuming he can do it. Red could inent any number of reasons to inhibit this ability.
As far as how his magic works, I think Erin’s secret is that he wasn’t naturally an Elemental Magus and that is what the soul shaper monks helped him with. They can open connections to the soul and primordial magic, so that’s why he thinks they can help to close off his connection to the void dragon. that being said, the nature to these links isn’t fully known.
if the glort was void based, wouldn’t it be eat away at everything? whenever Erin got possessed, the black stuff burned everyone when it touched them. since this one is punchable, does that mean it’s made of something else?
I’m thinking it might be just made of a mix of like every element but 1. I think one of the 5 element combinations was hidden for spoiler reasons on the tumbler Q&A bit, so that might be what the glort is made of.
I found the post you’re thinking of!
The partially redacted fusion is supposedly a crystal, and none of the others really seem to fit. The no-stone one is a goop, but there was a stone lacrima in the room it was kept in. (proof)
My theory I just thought of is that “Voidhammer” was the Ancient word for Adamant, so “Voidhammer Amalgamation”= “Adamant Making”. Dainix says that the Ancients were making something very tough in there, and there’s nothing tougher than Adamant.
Falst says that the runes on the lacrmas are messed up, so I think what happened is that someone took the Adamant the Ancients made and they/whatever monsters came in messed up the lacrimas. The lacrimas kept combiing elements but in a bad way, and Glort is the freak-accident result. (Maybe with a bit of Light for telepathy in the trauma stare.
I made another comment saying this but in case moderation blocked it I found the post you were talking about. The fusion you were thinking of is only partially spoilered, and it’s a crystal of some kind. The fusion without stone is a goop, but it can’t be this thing because there’s a stone lacrima in the room.
Upon further inspection of past strips, I realized I wasn’t remembering quite right: the stone lacrima *is* present, but when Falst points it out it’s not glowing and there are cracks all over it. I’ll take that as evidence that the Glort doesn’t have a stone component, but I could be wrong
*Alinua* being helpless? Emotions are running high, this is what happens when the leader is down.
Then again. she did just have a rough time barely saving everyone, so she’s running a little thin I imagine. Great writing and consistency!
Erin just casually snarking Falst while everyone else is unconscious, injured, or VERY mad is glorious. Also, why do I have the feeling that the fight will go one of three ways. Either Erin does what Falst did and does a little damage before getting trauma blasted, which I kinda hope happens so we get more info on Erin’s backstory, or he Void Mages it up, and gets a severe talking to when he goes back to his friends. OR he tries to Void Mage it up, but this time V.D. decides to be a problem.
Love this page for many reasons:
– Erin’s sass in this page, laughing at “Oh dear. Fire was my plan A.”
– Alinua do be picking up teammates and moving them like kittens
– Dainix! D: I’m… I’m hoping that the dark stains are just grime from being consumed by the Glort. A bit of it was building up on earlier pages, so it’s possible.
– Falst, with a broken arm, insisting angrily that he’s FINE and he just needs like a second to breathe before he leaps back into the fight: Bruh. BRUH. But also: how much he cares about Dainix is incredibly sweet.
Not everyone… But a not-insignificant portion of the audience, I would say. The general consensus is that we don’t want this community to descend into the DECADENCE and DEBAUCHERY that run rife among shippers, especially considering the indifference that many aro/ace readers (and also Red herself) feel towards romantic subplots.
but yes, Dainix & Falst, “Crustables”, is a popular ship (and for good reason)
I’m straight, but I don’t want ANY canon ships in this comic. I just want magic, cool characters, and lots of cool-looking fights. I’m kind of tired of all the romance in action/fantasy. All the kissing might get in the way of the swords and hitting people in the face with trees.
I don’t really mind if the ship becomes canon or not, but I do see it. I feel like most good action stories that have a fan base that ships characters eventually ruins it, but only if it goes overboard. I think the best balance is a few ships backed up by canon, and a lot of room left for character and plot analysis (arguably the best part of being able to comment). Also, most of my thoughts towards ships go like this:
Hmm, those characters have an interesting dynamic. They could become a very strong power duo if they work through issues and support each other! However, I’ll wait until I see canon backup to think of them as anything other than platonic.
I do kinda ship Falst and Dainix, but if they are platonic I’m just as happy. Besides, even in real life, anyone you would consider dating should have the same qualities as a good friend! And yes, I agree too much romance will just take away from the plot and the action. I have faith that anything Red decides to do relationship wise will only add to it tho, as I’m sure she won’t add something she knows is bad trope use. (Sorry for the essay, I get carried away with these sort of things)
I’m aro/ace and I’m absolutely with you. I’m avoiding writing any romance in the fantasy books I’m currently writing, because I don’t see a need for it myself, I wouldn’t know how to write it even if I did, and I just think there’s a bit too much romance in the fantasy genre anyway.
Uhm, perhaps it’s because I am old but I recall some debates shipping James T. Kirk and Spock and their were good points for and against it Just to point out this debate is not new in literature (let alone in sci/fi and comics), ‘cuase I’m old.
A list of the gang based on how good they would be at assembling a complicated IKEA table.
Best
Kendal (He’s just that determined)
Dainix (also determined and gadget experience)
Alinua, Tess and falst (“we can just sit on the floor”)
Jup okay, Erin and Falst are absolutely great together. Scrap that, all of them are great together. Man this comic is good.
For mobile readers.
Alt-text: picking up the team like a bunch of kittens and moving them from point A to point B
I really appreciate that you do this, just sayin’.
Thanks.
Tumblr text: Fire……… good?
well, at leas that dam broken arm is being treated-
Probably wouldn’t kill it, but maybe draining its life energy wouldn’t make it stronger for once, like she did in 1.8.18 to kill the chimera.
I think there’s a very significant chance that would infect her with Void Corruption. Not an insurmountable problem for her, especially with the first void mage right there, but still a bit of a problem.
Oh-ho, the Glort eats life energy?
Enter… the inexperienced, first-ever Void Mage.
Let’s get ready to ruuuuuuummmmmmbllllle!
In this corner, we have the Elemental Magus, the Dark Avatar, and the most hubristic man alive, Erin Ruunaser!
In the other corner, we have Jeff, the Goo of Horrors!

Just yes.
just incredible
I love how calmly Erin comments on fire being his plan A. And how not-calm Falst is about Dainix.
Rune script says “CLOSE WOUNDS STOP BLEEDING”
Thank you as always for deciphering the hidden derails @Mat!
Is there a Cypher somewhere??
Yeah, it’s both on the fan Discord and the comic wiki.
YES! Alinua is NOT happy. She is not in the mood to let Erin experiment & research a solution. She wants immediate results!
….I only hope Erin is able to given them … and not make things worse.
The labby freed, she screams “ERIN!”
On that he’ll end this slayer of their kin

True. Someone punch the thing!

Falst being concerned 🥲

I’ve been suspecting a “make friends with it” since the eye trick.
Erin’s attitude <3 He's amazing.
They all are. Every character is amazing. I love this comic so much.
*punches roof of van* VOID! VOID! VOID!
Ali’s hair is SO FLOOFY in that last panel. Floof squad forever!!
We still can’t see Dainix’s face. I think Veggiesnake was onto something last page.
I agree. Do you think the gloort is conscious and has an end goal or is it just a compact ball of magic and trauma?
There are things a man shouldn’t say to an angry woman but I forget why… Perhaps I’ll ask Bill Burr.
if the glort was void based, wouldn’t it be eat away at everything? whenever Erin got possessed, the black stuff burned everyone when it touched them. since this one is punchable, does that mean it’s made of something else?

Oh. OH! That is SO CLEVER!

except stone was the missing lacrima
Double checked. No, the stone lacrima is still there. Falst is pointing at it. The missing thing is the product of the array.
Oh, maybe it’s that stone wasn’t properly mixed into whatever it was so that’s why the larcima still had some juice
If you look on pages 1.22.6 through 1.22.8, you can see lacrima for all six elements, and they’re all glowing faintly.
Wow. That is such a clever theory!
Upon further inspection of past strips, I realized I wasn’t remembering quite right: the stone lacrima *is* present, but when Falst points it out it’s not glowing and there are cracks all over it. I’ll take that as evidence that the Glort doesn’t have a stone component, but I could be wrong
poor ali omg she is beyond frazzled
also falst immedeatly calling for dainx omfgggasjsjsjjsjs their so cute acjjdjdjd
kendal could not take longer to get over here
First an angry storm god, now this, they really cant catch a break.
yeah, i’m sick and tired of the best character being useless too 🙂
*Alinua* being helpless? Emotions are running high, this is what happens when the leader is down.

can’t blame alinua for being completely Over It at this point, she’s had a really trying month…
(stars, has all of this taken place in a month?)
Well wouldn’t this be a great time for Kendal to arrive and try “Fire 2: the Bluening”
That or Erin slaps it while Alinua restrains Falst.
“Oh dear, Fire was my Plan A. All right, I’ll figure something out.”
OH MY GOSH ERIN CAN YOU STOP BEING MY FAVORITE CHARACTER FOR FIVE SECONDS

There once was an elf with a floof
Who wasn’t in the mood to goof.
She demands that the mage
Now truly engage
Instead of remaining aloof.
This is art. Pure art.
Sitting in my car, I read this — and burst out laughing.
The good news is, if fire was plan A, then he at least has a plan B, and probably a plan C as well.
