ripping off a limb is more impressive when it’s not part of a soft protoplasmic ooze but still kudos
ripping off a limb is more impressive when it’s not part of a soft protoplasmic ooze but still kudos
For mobile readers.
Alt-text: what’s the fun of quipping at something that can’t quip back
A– the page link arrow isn’t even up yet how you so fast‽
if you just go to the base site of comicaurora without any specified page it will automatically load the newest one
Are you secretly Red herself doing this? Is that how you’re so fast?
conSPIRACY UNLOCKED
I just type out words beforehand and copy and paste them into the comments. Conspiracy deconfirmed.
Falst catches the arm, then rips it loose
“You’re falling apart”, he tells the big ooze
Finally, Falst is not getting the shit kicked out of him
…he looks a little unhinged. you okay falsty?
props to red, the sound effects of this blob thing are. uncomfortably vivid
You may appreciate the creepiness better but I love the comic book action and character revelation here. This is how a comic displays action, motion and unique sounds as a wonderful touch. And panel six revelation that Falst feels most alive when he is fighting for his life? Chef’s kiss! (Mmwwaa!)
Dainix is gonna finally pry the door open and turn around to Falst stomping a shiny puddle into the ground at this rate, isn’t he? Alinua and Erin, too.
So… the rule of bossfights tells me something’s gotta go horribly wrong.
I mean, Falst is actually smiling! Sort of! …almost reminds me of Tess in the first half of the Tynan fight. Almost.
~
It’s impressive. Slime, ooze, it seems invulnerable, feels unbreakable. It’s slick and slippy and it flows, sticks back to one, regenerates all. Have you ever kneaded something like it in your hands? It seems like it will last through every squeeze… but. *SNAP*.
Slime can crumble, it can break, it’s such a very odd sensation — the fault plane’s like a foreign body in the ooze, and it can yet be broken in two. But break a break, and now there’s three. Trying to knead it back in shape, it only shatters more.
But this time, maybe don’t go back into the slime store.
Falst, no! Don’t give into the Hubris! It will only precipitate greater pain for you!
Red’s really having fun choosing the slime SFX wording this chapter, isn’t she?
Falst seems genuinely confident fighting, or at least distracting, the slime; I guess fighting a dumb, slowish, non-human enemy is a nice change of pace. Having a breather from cave crawlers must be good for him at least.
However I’m still on edge; this all seems too easy. If you can just rip pieces off to weaken it and avoid the worst of it’s attacks, how did it scare those cave crawlers away, let alone consume some? Can it recombine or control it’s separated parts like some fiction slimes? Did it wear the crawlers down with a constant assault? A different version of the mind scrying attack?
I agree about the SFX, @E.T.! I thank you for your thoughts on possible foreshadowing of future events too. Red is a well researched storyteller, so she is good at torqueing up the tension and sending plots in interesting directions.
The ups and downs for Falst and Dainix are fantastic to experience <3
And Falst smiling while fighting is gorgeous to see. Get you some catharsis, cat boy!
Buddy. Don’t. Quipping may give you power, but bragging is just asking for 4d8 psychic damage to the face. As a wise woman once said a very long time ago “TV Tropes! It could save your life someday!”
Why do you smile, Noble Elliot of Lariston? Why do the joy candles burn in thine eye?- from Lock the Door Lariston, by James Hogg
Falst’s expression in the closeup is pretty close to what I think of when I think of the lines above.
Ooo! Beautiful prose! I’ll have to look into it @Bolo, Thanks for sharing! (smile)
Cool Song @Bolo! It reminds me of Stan Rogers songs.
Yeah, I’m a fan of it. The poem is longer, some versions of the song have all the stanzas. But it’s a 19th century poet writing about the Border Country of England and Scotland, with English raiders being stopped by Jock Elliot of Lariston. It’s one of those songs based on an actual event that sometimes even has a measure of accuracy to it.
I get the feeling that Falst is an adrenaline junkie of sorts. That’s all well and good but I feel like his adrenaline is going to spike in a bad way as the goop uses its TRAUMA WAVE attack.
Careful Falst, it’s a goo. It might be able to come back together.
Yeah, we haven’t seen this side of him since the first time he fought Kendall WAAAAAY back, a few days ago.
Love that grin! Falst is having fun.
There once was a feisty cat
Who fought with an oozing splat.
To keep Dainix from harm
He ripped off its arm
While having a lighthearted chat.
This seems WAY too easy -Falst is either gonna get hit with psychic damage, he’ll experience some other problem, or we’ll cut back to Dainix and something will go wrong on his end of things. Either way, something’s gonna happen to make this battle scary again.
I think maybe Alinua and Erin will show up and then Erin will be possessed by VD for getting too close to the singing caves. They can definitely fight VD, since both Alinua and Dainix can fight him, and I think it would be interesting if Falst somehow got hurt by VD trying to tank a hit.
In addition, Falst’s expression is concerning, that doesn’t seem very sane
Hobgoblin smile-lookin’-ass >:3
Dainix: Trying to survive, but not at the expense of his morals.
Falst: Trying to survive, but not at the expense of an opportunity to quip.
Theory: Falst is secretly a Klingon
Evidence:
-Falst keeps getting beat up
-Worf, a Klingon, keeps getting beat up
-Falst love love loves fighting
-Klingons love love love fighting
-Falst is honestly kinda scary
-Klingons are honestly kinda scary
*bows* that is all, Your Honor.
Tat slime arm is going to collapse/melt and the bones are going to be left behind aren’t they? We saw that this does have lots of bones already, but I’m curious how the “void hammer” aspect will come into play, or if the project even had reached development before this contamination took place.
shoot it’s another combat-addicted attractive ginger-
wait the goop probably affected his brain nvm i can go back to my regularly scheduled staring at childe tartaglia ajax
Theory: ripping it apart will reveal something much worse below the goo of horrors.
He’s winning!
…right? He’s winning?
(concerned)
(also, to the other commenters – I absolutely love that y’all have shortened Void Dragon to VD, I am giggling every time)
Because it reminds you of vernal diseases? What’s so funny about that? Surely it can’t be to poke fun at Voidy?
I will reiterate, Falst is so hot right now
y’know I still just hear Sips(Fool’s Gold, D&D story series on youtube) when I read Falst’s dialogue.
Just what is that thing? Is it the Voidhammer? Will Alinua and Erin make it in time to save the imperiled members of the Floof Squad? Will Kendal wake up at an incredibly convenient moment and do another thoughtless self-sacrifice? Did Falst’s arm ever heal properly? Will Dainix ever reveal the truly vile Crokinole strategies his brief bout of eye contact imparted upon him?
Tune in This Week to Find Out!
Been really busy the past several months and haven’t been able to read this since the end of Chapter 20, but by Vash’s name binging so much new content in one sitting was such a delight.
AAAAAAAH, the Crokinole jokes are BACK I don’t think I truly realized I missed that!
(I still don’t know what Crokinole is… do I? *search* Oh. Accidental poisoning and table curling but trickier. Intriguing.)
Welcome back!
It’s the table curling one, though accidental poisoning is rather appropriate in this context.
It’s good to be back, though I probably won’t ever go back to posting each new page as I once did. I’ll only post on the most recent page when I think of something funny, I almost burned out doing these back in Chapter 15 and don’t want to risk that again. I have so much respect for Red and people like her who can create things an order of magnitude more difficult than whatever I’m doing and manage burnout properly whereas I almost tapped out in a literal comment section.
Falst, nooooo
TL;DR: Quite literally adding insult to injury
