considering how Dainix is telling Falst to get clear and how the robot identified Falst’s injury before the threat, I have a feeling that the robot will be more focused on covering or evacuating Falst from the blast than attacked Dainix or the spider, especially since both of them might be about to explode
No. It’s too few letters to be threat. I haven’t decrypted it yet but so far I have _re_i although I’m not fully sure on the i. The remaining letters can be abfhklmpqstvwx
Back in chapter 4, we learned “Dahl an Rakhn”, the name ignans gave to the Storm, means “the hand of chaos”. “Kendal” means “right hand” in an older dialect of a neighbouring region, therefore “dahl” means “hand” and Rakhn means chaos . I don’t have time to translate the robot speech right now, so I trust someone will do it for me
Funfact:
Arthropods breath trough their skin. [IRL at least] Even the biggest ones. That’s why is less comon to see big ones on our lower oxygen percentage world.
Soooo… if that stais true about this arthopod, that means that the oxygen percentage is high as hell. It also means that right know is breathing fire. Wich is fun.
Arthropods do not breathe through their skin, at least no more than humans or other mammals, probably less. In the water they use gills and on land they use “book lungs” which take in oxygen, and purely terrestrial insects breathe through a series of holes in their thorax and abdomen called spiracles. It’s worth noting that some amphibians do breathe through their skin in the water, but it’s pretty uncommon
Spiders do have a sort of primitive lung (actually a modified gill structure), but it’s fully passive — it doesn’t move to pump air in and out, it just depends on natural air movement and diffusion to get fresh air into the cavity. Insects have holes in their shells that lead to little air tubes inside the body, which are usually just passive but a few insects (grasshoppers, for example) have those tubes connected to muscles so they can flex them to pump air in and out.
I think he accidentally spat fire, maybe out of stress or something. In the fourth panel he goes “no” and turns his head away, but there’s still fire at the corners of his mouth, like he’s fighting to suppress it.
Dainix didn’t want to set the room on fire; he just wanted to start a flame in spider’s heart.
We kinda take it for granted that flammable gas smells like rotten eggs, but that’s only because we add odorant to it to make it smell as it’s natural state is odorless (I’ll always thank that one episode of Avatar that taught me that). Odorless natural gas pockets, in fantasy or real life, are dangerous as hell.
Goes to show how serious things are; Dainix only resorted to this when Falst’s life was very much in danger. A calculated risk, but one that’s backfired on them, figuratively and literally.
I have a headcanon that not only do the automatons see Falst as an Ancient, but due to his small size, especially compared to an adult Ancient, they might even see him as a child.
Art wise, nice touch with Dainix’s speech bubble in panel 4 fragmenting like it did during his arena transformation; his crucible techniques are still a work in progress. Also interesting way of showing the gas popping and exploding; using that tropy green gas colour for the SFX while the gas itself is invisible.
Is Rakhn like some Ignan swear or something?
Because I think different people groups having their own unique swears which Red can use to censor bad language is hilarious.
Little detail: in panel three, Dainix’s eye is completely lit up like it was in the arena, but there aren’t any cracks in his skin; a subtle way of showing us how Tahraim’s advice has given him a bit more control over his power (though not much, it seemed like he had to wrench himself out of breathing more fire).
FOR SOME REASON I can reply to literally any of you EXCEPT @Shooba Queen, I’ve been trying for twenty minutes now. Can somebody help them for me? Do we have the cipher’s key available can we link it Im sorry but it has become a matter of pride.
I can reply to and tag anyone except the person I’m trying to talk to, whyyyyy
Predictions for next page/few pages:
a) Robot grabs Falst and attempts to get him out of there, whether successfully or not
b) If Falst escapes the robot, he goes back for Dainix
c) Things explode
d) More things explode/the walls explode because fantasy adventure reasons
Define “good”. In this context, we probably want a robot to stop and ask questions before trying to kill/restrain Dainix, but kill the spider without question. Apparently the functional robot hasn’t triggered the spider before? Or didn’t see it as a threat? Or maybe the robot just woke up after eons of nothing to do.
For mobile readers.
Alt-text: we’ve had one, yes – but what about SECOND robot
don’t think he knows about second robot
In his utter desperation, he lets the flame loose
But now they’re in trouble, so put the robot to use!
Ancient robot says:
“INJURY” and “THREAT RECOGNIZED”.
Oh thanks!
does this mean… the robot will fight the spider???? I WANT THAT
I think the threat identified is the source of fire, not the unfortunate cousin of Shelob up on yonder, unfortunately.
Counterpoint: if Dainix stops spitting fire, the big burning spider will be the only “source” of fire left
I don’t think the “threat” is the source of the fire, it’s that element-channeling son-of-a-cavefolk up there.

Hey! No fair using your brain!

ok after decrypting some more I came to the conclusion that nvm you were right, th probably has its own character :p
He is saying “injury” and “Thread recognized”. Thanks for the ancient text!
“Threat”, not “thread”.
(Hold on im testing something)
the waters?
…yeah probably :]
“I SAID, I CAST FIREBALL” seems to be a running theme.
Pros: Dead spooder
Cons: Minor explosion
Also am I the only one who finds the Ancient robot weirdly endearing?
Not at all, it’s almost like a parental figure; one that’s clearly trying to help but has no idea what’s happening.

has anyone figured out how to translate the robot yet???
INJURY
THREAT DETECTED
“THREAT RECOGNIZED”
Dainix: Under no circumstances can I turn into a big firey monster underground.
Also Dainix: But that doesn’t mean I can’t breathe fire!!!!
I think he accidentally spat fire, maybe out of stress or something. In the fourth panel he goes “no” and turns his head away, but there’s still fire at the corners of his mouth, like he’s fighting to suppress it.
Yeah, you’re right, my bad. That makes this moment so much better that Dainix would loose control out of worry for Falst.
Dainix didn’t want to set the room on fire; he just wanted to start a flame in spider’s heart.

@Testing-the-waters did some translating! They said it means something along the lines of ‘chaos’
Chaos could be the equivalent to yelling “s–t!” or similar expletives, especially as it’s said vehemently.
The metal eye sees
Falst beneath fire and gas
And “threat detected”
“THREAT RECOGNIZED”
Still a good haiku, as always!
fair point, ideally
it would be a translation
i just have five beats
which isn’t itself
a problem here but slant rhyme
locked my choices in
Loving this thread. Keep it up! 😀
…C-RA? (/joke)

What’s that? I think it’s the sound of foreshadowing paying off!
YAY! A new nightlight!
Translation of the robot: “YOU KILLED MY BROTHER. YOU SHALL NOW PERI- OH SHIT THAT FIRE GUY HIT A GAS POCKET”

This should be the link!
thank you it’s probably my fault I appreciate youuuuuu ;▿;
I like that despite Falst’s hostility, Dainix is still at “get angry enough that my friend is hurt to act rashly” level with him.
TL;DR: No smoking in the bathrooms… Or in the dungeons.

Ahhhhh nooooo I’m caught up!
Well, I stand corrected, apparently the Bad Idea Bears _will_ be paying us a visit…
Daft punk time
Dainix after the fight:I don’t want to say ‘I told you so’, but–
Falst: Then don’t.
I hope one of these robots are good

Y’all ever seen Lost in Space?
