Hello, and again, welcome to the Aperture Science Enrichment Center. We are currently experiencing technical difficulties due to circumstances of potentially apocalyptic significance beyond our control.
I assume its cause ferin are magically inept just like the ancients. The tech recognizes ancients by the lack of magic signitures.
I like the idea of Falst using ancients tech in the future. Tho Im not sure he would like relying too much on it but that would depend on the exact nuinces of how the tech works
Wait, ancients had dark skin and light hair, and so has Falst. The robot before said, that he is “of the people” and that Dainix is a “cave person”. Maybe Falst is part Ancient an that’s why the robot took him, to “protect him”. Moreover it would probably make Falst immune to cave corruption and generally Void. So HA Erin was wrong once again. That’s gonna wound his hubris.
So people have previously theorised that Ferin show up as Ancients to Ancient tech, because they are cut off from the elements – a Ferin cannot become a mage.
So something like the robot, which detects Ancients based on what their souls look like would potentially be unable to tell them apart. Ferins also didn’t exist until centuries after the ancients died out, so it’s not like this would have been known at the time, and with Ferins being outcasts for the most part, it’s unlikely they’d be exposed to the sort of digs and archeological sites that might have intact Ancient tech.
False being part-Ancient is also a feasible explanation, though.
So you’ve been in a situation like this before Falst?
“If you’re truly my son then you’ll find your way”, weird look in his eye affer seeing the cave crawler, “this way always works”
So did his oarents dumo him down here as a kid??
Sorru if this has already been thoerized and pointed out, I dont keep up with the comments anymore
Usually typos irk me like nothing else, but “Sorru” is literally the best thing I’ve read today.
It just seems to me like what a cat would say if it could apologise verbally.
I can blame my typos on senility and bad eyes but it sounds like you suffer from ‘Youth and Enthusiasm’ (to borrow from an old fencing saying) @Imuyan. Worry not! Youth will take of itself with time but excessive enthusiasm can trip you up at any age! Just remember to slow down and reread your statement before you send it out to public view (and try to do that thrice or backwards or just take time away from statement before looking at it). Perfection is nigh impossible to reach but anyone who puts the work in can improve! Sorry to grind my axe in public! (gets off high horse and soapbox and totters off)
Yes, but I love Falst’s reaction in the last panel after he fooled around with the access panel in the (story) panel just prior to that one. It reminds of Costello’s reaction to a straight line from Abbot- emotional reaction at its funniest!
A while back, Red posted some sketches. One of them was a young Falst and his mom, and another one was a cave crawler. Some people think the cave crawler’s clothes look like mom’s clothes, but reduced to rags. Falst’s reaction to the cave crawler earlier tends to support the idea — for somebody who puts a lot of stock in never being bothered by anything, he had a pretty strong reaction when the crawler started talking.
Dainix: Here are all the reasons for me to do that instead of you, that DON”T involve the words “broken arm,” because I know those words would just make you stubborn.
I was just thinking it was because they have a fairly clear insight on Falst’s character.
Namely: If you so much as imply that being injured might inconvenience me in any way I will prove you wrong.
Judging from the size of that door, I think it leads to either an airlock, a cargo bay, the room containing the bunker’s main power source, or a suspiciously mostly-empty circular room with a large robot or cave crawler in the exact center and an inordinate amount of health pickups scattered about the circumference. Hopefully one of the former three.
Jokes aside, if that door actually does lead to an airlock, or is otherwise an outer gate of some kind, it begs the question: why is it placed so deep? Well… The stylized stone rune on the door leads me to believe that this bunker might connect to The Singing Caves, i.e. the veins of Stone. The dragon design on each door watching the stone rune evokes the imagery of the Ancients’ deities keeping vigilance over that which terrified them. I could be completely wrong, of course, but it’s what came to mind.
That last panel is one of the best things I’ve ever seen. I do agree with everyone who’s saying this is because it recognizes him as an Ancient, and I’m mostly just wondering what Red’s gonna do with this in the future (AWESOME)
nice pro gamer move there, dainix, tricking falst into not exacerbating his injuries further without insulting his pride. it’s high time this party comp had a higher cumulative emotional intelligence stat XD
so i haven’t been commenting in a while so let me just add a huge retroactive AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA!!!! I LOVE WVERYTHING ABOUT THSI COMIC RED U LEGEND YOU ABSOKUTE G
The bois are back! Hooray!
In all seriousness though, that door looks WAY too similar to the entrance of a boss fight for comfort. I wonder what’s inside. Putting on my spectator hat, I’m gonna guess that’s either the door to a cargo room, a branch of the Singing Caves, or a boss fight, and for Falst’s sake, I REALLY hope it’s not the latter. Aside from that, love how Dainix realizes “Hm. He has a broken arm and is probably in pain, but if I point that out I’m gonna get maimed.” along with Falst’s reaction to the weird ancient welcome bot.
Oh my gosh the “dust” part of the “Dust and Darkness” we were promised in this chapter!
Excited to see more of the Ancient subway system, even if it reacts unusually to Falst.
Btw if anyone’s curious as to what the door’s saying, based on the Ancient chart on Red’s tumblr, it says “welcome”.
Which is probably good news? It means whatever’s on the otherside probably isn’t intentionally dangerous, at least. (Although it doesn’t rule out the possibility of it being a former common room that’s filled with cave crawlers now)
For mobile readers.
Alt-text: translation: “bro are you seriously using my colleague’s brain as a flashlight”
“No, we’re using your colleague’s brain as a lantern. There’s a difference.”
The duo is back! And they try to get out
Of the dungeon where they’ve been running about
Emergency door lacrima: What is the nature of your emergency?
Falst: I have fallen and can’t get out!
A shadowed stone door
shows ancient “welcome” to Falst
while Dainix sees strain.
The Ancient PA says “Welcome”.
Hello, and again, welcome to the Aperture Science Enrichment Center. We are currently experiencing technical difficulties due to circumstances of potentially apocalyptic significance beyond our control.
Brute force always works
Except for when it does not
Just “skritch skritch” will do
To those who replied,
Thanks for the warm welcome back
Time for more haikus
yessss haikus yay!
We’re all very welcome
hello again! Glad to see you back 😀
welcome back
Huh, This one’s up a little early. But what is up with the ancient tech recognizing him as one of theirs presumably?
Is this going to lead to a power-up or gear-up for Falst?
I assume its cause ferin are magically inept just like the ancients. The tech recognizes ancients by the lack of magic signitures.

Maybe the ancient tech just doesn’t like danix because he is a crucible

I have made an atrocious amount of typos
Usually typos irk me like nothing else, but “Sorru” is literally the best thing I’ve read today.

Now I’m picturing a horse balancing on a soapbox. Thank you for that image?
Aaah, so Dainixi is trying to help Falst without getting scratched, and Flast clamming up.
Yeah great idea Dainix put the cat next to the keyboard.
Yes, but I love Falst’s reaction in the last panel after he fooled around with the access panel in the (story) panel just prior to that one. It reminds of Costello’s reaction to a straight line from Abbot- emotional reaction at its funniest!
I’ve seen multiple reference’s to Falst’s mom. Where did we learn about her?
it’s a theory, go back to when he dealt with the cave crawler. just so you know it’s sad.

Thank you for sharing that, @Darth!
Oh thank you! I have been caught up
Is that a stylized stone rune on the door? and now that I look a dragon on either side? I wonder…
Oh, good eye! Maybe they’ll be in more detail on the other side.
I hope so…
I wait for Monday and your comment from your artist eyes point of view, @goldwings! (smile)
I wonder what I missed earlier…Whelp time to reread the whole comic again, Let’s go!
just orb boys doing what orb boys do
I see a lore dump coming
I think we might meet the bat person from the third scetch soon
6th sketch, sorry
Damn that’d be so cool! They look really cute, so I’m looking forward to wherever they come in.
Actually, the door is clearly saying “TEE CHUTA HHAT YUDD!”
….Huttese? The horror!
There once were two floofy boys
Who want to play with Ancient toys.
Falst says the door
Won’t work anymore,
They switch and–Aaah! What’s that noise?
This just really made me happy. I don’t knowvwhy. It just did. Thanks
Dainix: Here are all the reasons for me to do that instead of you, that DON”T involve the words “broken arm,” because I know those words would just make you stubborn.
The fact I was going to say basically the same thing
That’s because you both have a clear idea about Dainix character, I think? perhaps better to say/type ‘I assume’ instead.
I was just thinking it was because they have a fairly clear insight on Falst’s character.
Namely: If you so much as imply that being injured might inconvenience me in any way I will prove you wrong.

On today’s edition of “Red is pretty good at accidental meme formats” we bring you: that first panel. Slap any .jpg on that wall.
I have a collection of the accidental meme formats found in this comic. Time to add another to the collection.
Is there somewhere we can see this collection of yours?
It’s just saved to my phone but I could post it on Ao3 or something
Only if you want to.
That last panel is one of the best things I’ve ever seen. I do agree with everyone who’s saying this is because it recognizes him as an Ancient, and I’m mostly just wondering what Red’s gonna do with this in the future (AWESOME)
Somehow I think that what’s beyond that door isn’t just an easy exit, especially if Ancient tech doesn’t like humans/elves.
Finally caught up after a single day binge- HOLY CRAP THIS IS AMAZING! I love this comic so much!
Oh, shoot, I caught up XO
Welcome!
Welcome to the squad!
yes, welcome to the squad. The comment squad.

back to our regularly scheduled programing?

bonding time!
Oh my gosh the “dust” part of the “Dust and Darkness” we were promised in this chapter!
Excited to see more of the Ancient subway system, even if it reacts unusually to Falst.
This the part where Falst discovers his magical girl transformation! Jokes aside I love lost civilization ruins full of archanotech.
TL;DR: good grief, it’s like getting into an apartment building…
:O Orange bois are back! Or orb boys? We need, like, a duo name for them.
I’m so excited to see them again! At least for a bit…
Team angry redheads.
This
IIRC Falst doesn’t respond to magic like most folks, so maybe the system thinks he’s an ancient.
I think I see it, is this where falst gets a power up. A “magic be could use and is good at based off of him decifering magic before
Btw if anyone’s curious as to what the door’s saying, based on the Ancient chart on Red’s tumblr, it says “welcome”.

didn’t Kendal break that spear
that was the spear that the arena gave him, this spear is dainix’s spear that they confiscated
