The Collector would be like a vampire with high-level spellcasting, Tynan is obviously an Elder Tempest, Zuurith might be a chain devil, Dr. Jolon is a transmutation wizard, Arenamaster is a commoner, Shrike is… something, honestly just a high level PC, and the Void Dragon is a god so he doesn’t get a statblock.
I think I’d probably put the Collector as a lich because of her whole soul-collecting dealio plus the high level magic (since they used to be wizards if I remember correctly). Shrike would probably be some homebrew bandit leader. I 100% agree with Biel with Tynan as an Elder Tempest, and Arenamaster as just a commoner. Zuurith, idk. Jolon could probably work as a necromancer to localize the whole “corrupting natural order” part of his chimeras and exile (kinda) from the Academy. VD would probably use some Tiamat-style stat block (in the sense that you only even get to fight when you’ve spent the whole campaign weakening him, and even then they’re like CR 30)
I feel like Zuurith would be better as some sort of Celestial, like a Deva or a Planetar or something.
Jolon is a textbook example of a villain with a weak stat block on its own, but augmented with powerful magic items and allies that the party is *actually* fighting. And even though he’s supposed to be Int-based, I’d still probably use the Druid stat block for him rather than a Necromancer or other wizard.
If the second line is referring to trapped souls of Vash’s city then the implication is ‘constance’ refers to the patient endurance of Vash’s deceased people. If not I’m lost. But take that as as incentive to due better next time you try not as discouragement! After all we are all here by Red’s desire for feedback as she tries to improve her skills too.
I don’t think that’s Iras, the boy with the chimeric plague. He died of the plague a hundred years ago approximately, so why would he be in the mix with all the other Vash citizen who died by the Collector’s hand? This child does resemble Iras, but i don’t think it’s him. It’s probably the kid standing in the crowd with his mother at page 1.1.2
This is probably just me, but that kid just really hit me with the enormity of the loss of an entire city. There wasn’t just adult followers of Vash, the God. There was an entire city of people snuffed out just so one lady could steal a City God. Really hammering home the stakes there, Red. I personally have trouble grasping scale so I appreciate the tiny child.
that’s what I meant, although looking back on it, if that IS Iras, he’s technically hundreds of years old, but if that ISN’T Iras (and I’m not sure it is) my comment is a lot more significant. damn you, post-death time dilation
If it is Iras, that symbolically means a lot about this scene. Cause really, even if Vash performs the ceremony to release someone’s soul… it’s not really like they’re not still part of him. Their lives, their experiences, their faith in him, their joys, their sorrows, all of that is STILL part of Vash. And always will be.
If THAT’S what we’re seeing here, these aren’t the souls connected to Vash wishing for release. It’s the lives and memories of everyone that loved Vash, the god and the city. And they’re here for Kendal too.
Yeah, pretty sure this kid isn’t Iras, guys; he lived and died a couple of centuries ago, and would’ve had his soul released already. This is probably the kid in panel two of this page: https://comicaurora.com/aurora/1-1-2/
How to talk to small people? No, how small people can talk to you.
Kendal in his natural state; blaming himself for not achieving the near impossible immediately. Not a single one of those people are angry at Kendal’s existence, Beran even refers to him as “lord”; Kendal’s inability to wake up is on his end.
Sorry @kiiwaaa but I don’t think that’s Iras. All of these people died from the Collector’s assault, Iras’s death was centuries before that. I’m not even sure Iras would have much of a soul left after the chimeric plague event. It’s probably as @Oktopi3.14 said, a kid in the crowd on the day the demise of Vash happened.
Prediction for next week: Potentially (hopefully) the last bit of pep talk Kendal needs to wake up; if all goes well he should be waking up to a happy Erin on Friday, maybe even Wednesday. Then we either go to Alinua’s dream sequence, with potential Life interactions, or go back to the bunker boys.
I wonder if Kendal feels even worse about this because he’s been having a good time (generally), going around and making friends. “Why do I get to be happy and alive when an entire city is dead?”
There once was a gentle child
Who, with his character mild
Took hold of Kendal’s head,
And, even though he’s dead,
Melts the guilt on Kendal piled.
This scene is so deep and heart-wrenching and cute!!! Also, do you guys think that Kendal thinks he’s also dead? Because he seems to believe that he has no more chances left to set things right.
Red, I see what you’re doing. I see that subtle glow at Kendal’s tear ducts. He is going to have the urge to cry while this child says something adorable to reassure him. It’s gonna make me cry, it’s gonna make you cry, Red probably cried while drawing it. Big catharsis moment. Let it all out.
Alright, I’m all caught up. So far, great story with curious worldbuilding and an interesting premise. A bit of a slow burn, but that’s the type of story I love.
Thank you for writing this. Looking forward to more.
CHILD. ……… AWh GOD this next part is gonna break me right

Oh so we are in full crying mode now
oh, most certainly.
Yayyy, more Kendal!
I totally forgot this was happening today and I’m happy
THAT’S THE CHIMERIC PLAGUE CHILD FROM 1.2.12 IRAS /i PUT IT AS MY LINK IF YOU WANT TO CHECK BUT HE LOOKS THE SAME
Huh. I forgot he had a name. But yeah you’re right, that’s a neat detail.
Man I forgot how brutal the Chimeric Plague looked. Iras in 1.2.13 just… god that messes me up
“Iras was a kind and gentle child. He freely shared his gift with anyone who asked.” ;-;
wouldn’t his soul be already released? that was hundreds of years ago, wasn’t it?
Yeah, I’m a bit sceptical as well. Looks like just a kid.
I am looking forward to the next installment. What a brilliant and gentle cliffhanger! Thank you Red!
Here’s the link for reference. https://comicaurora.com/aurora/1-2-12/
It could also be the child from page 1.1.2 a bunch of the other people here are also from the page 1.1.2 so I think it makes more sense.
Confirmed by Red on tumblr, this child was in the crowd of Vash’s people in the opening chapter, they’re not Iras.
~~BABEY~~
PRECIOUS CHILD
Excuse me while I vibrate. V cute, v good use of these tropes
The Baby is like “Look at me, you are the captain now”
Aurora Question #27: We’ve seen what class all the heroes would be, now what D&D class or Monster would the villains in Aurora be?
The Collector would be like a vampire with high-level spellcasting, Tynan is obviously an Elder Tempest, Zuurith might be a chain devil, Dr. Jolon is a transmutation wizard, Arenamaster is a commoner, Shrike is… something, honestly just a high level PC, and the Void Dragon is a god so he doesn’t get a statblock.

The Collector would be a litch Druid Warlock multiclass, Shrike would be a human rouge, Tynan would be a storm Sorcerer, and the void dragon would
Kendal needs baby hugs.
Kendal will get baby hugs.
?
The baby hugs will be given
His confidence broken he laments his existence
However the Vashi seem to take it with constance
Tell me if this is horribly incorrect usage of the word “constance”
If the second line is referring to trapped souls of Vash’s city then the implication is ‘constance’ refers to the patient endurance of Vash’s deceased people. If not I’m lost. I would agree with that The art work, as well as the story work are stellar in this page!
This kids gonna stare straight into Kendal’s soul, only to say he found a cool bug

this is your friendly reminder that this child, Iras, is technically OLDER than Kendal
To be fair…. pretty much everyone involved in this whole mess is older than kendal, it’s not like it’s hard (bc he be baby)
that’s what I meant, although looking back on it, if that IS Iras, he’s technically hundreds of years old, but if that ISN’T Iras (and I’m not sure it is) my comment is a lot more significant. damn you, post-death time dilation

Good observation!
Yep! Red confirmed it on tumblr

TL;DR: Feeling blue? How about a little facelift?
I snorted-
Is this a good thing?
“Please, my lord, get up.”

“Go wake up your older brother.”
“Okay, Mom.”
*with the brutal honesty only a child can provide* Well you’re not gonna do it kneeling here on the ground.”

If the ALT text reminds me of Batman singing Am I blue? in Justice League Unlimited and had to hear that song again, so do you.

I see that the afterlife is still perfecting it’s medical care.
Kendal didn’t fail, he merely failed /so far/. It’s only a definitive failure if he gives up and stops trying.
SMOL CHILD BEAN OMG I feel like there will definitely be crying on the next page
That Eiffel 65 song playing in my head now.
