Oof, this can’t end well.
I’m assuming that robot thing is an Ancient creation. And to those who guessed at the start of the chapter that Erin would be proven wrong, congratulations on correctly predicting the plot!
Also, notice the markings on the stone wall behind them — it looks like a depiction of the auroras breaking through the pedestal. Very interesting.

that awkward moment when you’re emotionally charged angsty monologue alerts a guardian
fr tho that glowing eye with the tentacle like robot arm thingy is giving me BOTW war flashbacks
can’t wait to see these ginger idiots continue this conversation whilst trying not to get their ass handed to them by a robot who’s just here to enforce some seriously outdated trespassing laws
knock knock, here comes the plot
stuck in a horror movie with a robot
it’s hilarious how much taller dainix is than Falst, but it’s not hilarious how good Falst is at a dramatic rant; in fact, if he wasn’t stalking Dainix, they probably could have found that thing earlier. but i get where he’s coming from. he’s angry because everyone else got hurt and he wasn’t much help, and now he’s targeting the one thing he could have probably fought in that battle: Dainix.
also that robot really said: “hmm, i sense potent angst energy in this ruin”
… Dōmo arigatō, Mr. Roboto?
His anger about the arena match is founded, but were it not for Dainix doing the one thing he would never do unless it was life-or-death, V.D. could have killed everyone. Kendal and Alinua are still in bad shape and that tension is making Falst angry, but when they’re better and Dainix explains the arena thing, that should improve.
Oh, those are some nice carvings on the ruins, I agree with @Sunstorm the Budgie on them representing the pedestal breaking. With evidence like this it make sense researches in the extra lore page would suspect an ancient structure in the centre.
Prediction for next week: I don’t think this is a friendly robot. I think it will attack Dainix and Falst, make them forge their friendship in combat together, and might end with one of them delivering a dry comment to Erin about these ruins being boring.
When I see that robot, what immediately pops into my head is the soundtrack from an old B-film “AI Assault” XD
P.S. That’s a good thing! It’s a great soundtrack!
The robot seems to weak to be a serious threat if it attacks, unless there is a lot of them- which given that this archeological site has been explored before, doesn’t seem very plausible.
Like, it’s already damaged and it seems human sized. I don’t think this is a pure combat challenge coming up.
It has been (20) pages since we have last seen the plot.
@Question Master, well, Red said that this chapter and the next two were all going to be set in these ruins, so maybe part of the plot is finding out what happened here/where did the robots come from/getting rid of any other threats that hide in the ruins? One of the sketches they released gave me the impression of a cave-crawler, so maybe there’s a Void elemental zone thing here too? I don’t know, just throwing out some ideas.
Time for the best kind of therapy: COMBAT THERAPY
But fr I love Falst’s dialogue here so much, it feels so correct in a way that I can’t explain. It’s just really satisfying to see him let it all out, and show that he does care for his friends (based on how he’s blowing up at Dainix on their behalf). All in all: yes, I love it
Falst must really be out of it, he’s actually being honest with his feelings! Someone call a healer, stat!
Where the heck did this robot come from? It looks like it’s from a sci-fi setting, and in much better shape then I’d expect if it was as old as these ruins. So, basically, I don’t think that it’s the same age as the ruins. Maybe this is the secret meeting spot of a robotic fight club from Zuurith.
Dainix: “Ruin’s haunted.”
Falst: “What?”
Dainix: *transforms one of his arms* “Rûìñ’š hãµntëd.”
So between the unfamiliar script, or possibly mural, on the wall and the decayed robit, I conclude that these ruins aren’t as boring as Erin made them out to be. If these are houses, that means that Ancients lived alongside the smaller automatons they created, which begs a question: were these robots sentient? If they weren’t (which I think is more likely the case), then they were likely servants in domestic settings. But on the off chance that they were sentient (or close to it) yet still treated as servants, that might put “robot uprising” as a potential downfall to Ancient civilization; however, I think this scenario is pretty unlikely. If the Ancients had built sentient machines, I feel like we would’ve heard about them by now.
you know, falst makes some good points. he has a right to be angry.
that said, i await the day on which danix will apologize and the two will hug and it will be great.
The one thing you can say about Falst- feisty. I wonder what the robot will do next Monday? Change somebody attitude? Or just somebody’s target of hostility?
.
Falst is my favorite kind of angsty loner party member. The kind that is open and honest in genuinely caring about their own little handful of people and will throw hands at the first hint of someone causing them emotional or physical distress.
On the other hand damaged robots abandoned in ancient ruins ominously powering up are definitely NOT my favorite suspicious cliffhanger, Red why must you do this to us on a Friday???
Okay, what is attracting these things to the protagonists? Because it obviously can’t just be proximity. People have explored the ruins, and with the last one, people had walked through that forest before, and the robots stayed dead. Can the robots in Aurora-world sense protagonist energy or something?
Maybe Alinua’s outpouring of life magic is strong enough to affect them, or they sense Kendal’s residual god aura?
Is the gang going to be randomly attacked by every mostly-busted robot they pass within ten yards of for the rest of the story?
And why are all the robots built for combat? You’d think someone would make one for serving tea or washing dishes or caring for livestock. Something that doesn’t immediately translate into “Intruders detected. Response: Destroy!”
@Goldfinch In the three elder races extra lore it states the Ancients created autonomous machines, Dainix mentioned needing to check Wyrmsilk for automatons in 1-19-7, so it makes sense these ancient ruins might have a few. Though it does clash with Erin’s previous statement of these ruins already being boring.
@Saga Well since these are Ancient robots, who’s civilisation collapse was at least partly due to V.D.. If this robot was built after the storm’s formation, it might be programmed to sense for the Dark Dragon’s followers, and has just now detected Erin.
@Saga It might be relevant that its eye is white. The mural implies that Light Dragon worship is relevant to the site somehow. So if LD and her followers are on high alert for a VD host within a certain radius of Zuurith…
If I had a nickel for every time the protagonists had to fight a robot with glowing eyes, I’d have two nickels. Which isn’t a lot, but it’s weird it happened twice.
@Evil Tree You make a good point. I was mostly commenting on the fact that the robot doesn’t look as rusted as I thought it would be if it was from the Ancients, and if it is an artifact that it would have been taken out of the ruins by an archeological expedition for a museum. I could very easily be wrong though.
@GlytchMeister it’s in the mural you can kinda faintly see in the background, which most likely depicts the collapse Ancient civilization detailed in chapter 6 and 1.14.21-1.14.22
To storylineobssesed:
I saw you were asking for aurora vine suggestions so:
Zuurith: would you rather fight a bunch of kindergarteners-
Tynan: I want to fight kindergarteners
Void dragon: just do it!
Erin: no!
Erin: in the winter I like to wear a cosy black jacket shirt and jeans, in the summer i wear the same thing cause I look good in black and am willing to suffer.
Erin: this is so dumb
Tess: the higher I am the better I can see
Light dragon: Hey let me see what you have!
Void dragon *holding Erin*: a knife!
Kendal: Matt the buildings of fire!
Falst: like how big is the f*cking fire?
Kendal: if you are here speak to us
Vash: ?just a city boy?
Falst: oh look I broke your glass that’s a bummer, are you going to feed me of what?
Alinua: Hey bro what do you want to eat?
Void dragon: souls of the innocent
Erin: a bagel
Alinua: if what I think is happening is happening, it better not be
Dainix: do you have any shaving cream?
Falst: No i don’t like the way that it tastes
Caliban: yeah I can do a pretty good human, hello I have a job I’m going to work
Tahraim: that’s pretty good.
“It’s been 20 pages since the plot” and thank fucking GOD, we had like 5 chapters of Tynannfight, I think without a chapter long break I would lose my fucking MIND!

Huh. Guess we’re about to find out what those Ancient robots were like.
Oof, this can’t end well.

That is a robot ally if I have ever seen one and also FIRST AYYYY
Aurora Question #6: Uh oh, what’s the plot
¯\_(ツ)_/¯ I think the thing with the collector won’t be coming up quite et, but who knows?
Ah, that explains it…
Next question, why did that robot just wake up?
Wasn’t one giant robot enough Red? Stop doing this to my babies.
@Question Master
Funny you should ask:

So angsty! In the background ominous sounds
Does anybody else notice the literal writing on the wall? As in the wall behind the characters?

The robot’s eye glow is a similar color to the Paladins’/Light Dragon magic. It does not bode well
Funny – I see this as the ‘other romance option’ (the first one being Kendal x Erin).
There once were two ginger bois;
The one the other annoys.
They argue and shout
And wave arms about–
Hey guys, what was that noise?
Falst must really be out of it, he’s actually being honest with his feelings! Someone call a healer, stat!

TL;DR: You almost killed my friends and now you have the nerve to try joining us???

Dainix: “Ruin’s haunted.”

That robot cannot be a friend: it does not have a luscious flowing mane of hair, which is the #1 requirement to join the Floof Gang.
Also no, this is not what being fine looks like. Falst is a cat, not a dog, and Dainix is not currently on fire.
you know, falst makes some good points. he has a right to be angry.
that said, i await the day on which danix will apologize and the two will hug and it will be great.
I’ll try to put all this into words-
1. When I saw the last panel, I began mentally screaming. Also I’m pretty sure I made an actual face
2. Doc ock vibes
3. MM yess gimme angsty monologue
4. look at that height difference ✨
5. Either this bot isn’t as broken as it looks, or there are more of them. I don’t know which would be worse. What do you guys think?
Being fine looks small and angry.
The one thing you can say about Falst- feisty. I wonder what the robot will do next Monday? Change somebody attitude? Or just somebody’s target of hostility?

I’m not angry for me. I’m angry for THEM!!!
If I had a nickel for every time the protagonists had to fight a robot with glowing eyes, I’d have two nickels. Which isn’t a lot, but it’s weird it happened twice.
I’m gonna be the odd one out and predict that the robot is activating because it senses hostility
Faust: “I am not used to having people who love and care about me and am therefore extremely hostile towards anyone who nearly gets them killed!”
Dainax: “Perfectly understandable. Do you want to talk about it?”
Faust: “No! No being a nice dude! I need someone to lash out at!”
Dainax: “Oh, gotcha. I can do that.”
Faust: “Thank you! I’m sure we’ll be best buddies by the end of the arc!”
In all seriousness, major kudos to Red for this page’s framing because that “–but at least I’m okay, right?” panal hits like a truck.
@SnarkyWallflower
There are genres where that would be unremarkable. This is a genre where fighting one of those is remarkable. So yeah, weird.
*Ominous Piano Noises*
That robot radiates Daft Punk vibes.
Falst cuts deep
Are. Are we all just going to ignore the scene from the first page on the ruin walls?
