The fact that Falst never stole a fresh shirt from Erin’s bag in a ll this time, despite the absolute state of what he’s wearing, shows incredible restraint on his part.
Slight inconsistency I noticed when going back to chapter 11 just now:
Falst was already back from taking a bath in the river when Kendal woke up, but at that time he didn’t yet know about the void dragon (he doesn’t know what other threat Erin is talking about, and Erin says he’d tell him later.).
Was he just in a wet shirt the whole time and only dried it after to get us this neat shirtless panel (stop the timer, Ryan)?
Is this panel showing an entirely different situation?
@Rai626, I went back to that page to check, and you can actually see that, as Kendal wakes up, Alinua is placing a twig on the fire, which suggests they were just starting it, and the time of day hasn’t changed in any noticeable way from the sunset colors of when Falst was at the river, so safe to say that the whole conversation inside the tent starts right after Falst gets back from the river, and he didn’t have the time to dry his clothes until afterwards.
I wonder if Falst can hear this conversation over his brooding about Dainix?
Face it Erin, even without the Falst counterpoint present, Tess would have stuck with you anyway. I wonder if her comment “even if it’s smart, you don’t abandon people” has any deeper, past-experiences meaning or whether it’s just part of Erin’s personality.
Makes sense for Falst’s character, personality and history wise, to put staying with his first real friends before fleeing an unknown, non-tangible threat. Still, I get the feeling he might get plenty accustomed to vague existential threats as the comic goes on.
Prediction for next week: Either Erin conceding defeat to Tess’s arguments and letting her join or switch to the anticipated Falst and Dainix interaction/confrontation. Maybe both.
haHA Tess literally calls them “the gang”! It’s canon now.
Also I just love how Tess knows that Erin is doing his official argument on Why She Should Leave and she just says “counterpoint”.
@Tony Alighieri, heyyyy are you the person from the Aurora Tumblr page who can draw Erin’s tattoos from memory?
Don’t take this as me being horny because I’m not:
FALST IS SO MUSCULAR. LOOK AT HIS SHOULDERS. LOOK AT HOW BEEFY THEY ARE.
I swear I’m not thirsty I’m just really in awe of his chunky arms.
Did you know…
Stars work on a balance of their own gravity and the energy produced by fusing hydrogen together into helium. When the star runs out of hydrogen depending on the size of the star different things happen. With stars a similar size to our sun the star will initially contract and then begin fusing helium into heavier elements. With heat building up in the core it causes the star to expand forming a red giant. It is predicted that with our sun when it becomes a red giant will expand to around approximately earth’s orbit.
(Just some othe existential threat that Falst would also not be bothered by)
“Counterpoint: Falst.” Tess that response is just great, it just tearing through Erin’s argument almost immediately.
Dusty:
Maybe he is just waiting for a good moment, like when he pulled out Erin’s cards from his bag to observe.
Rai626:
I think this conversation happened in between chapters 11 and 12 as there was probably a decent amount of down time in between Gleccian’s forest and Zurrith, and plot was too busy everywhere else for them to discuss this.
storylineobsessed:
No wonder we was able to be an even match (somewhat) for Kendal. I also preferred the white sleeve with the vest too.
GUYS. GUYS IT’S CANON. Falst has a mane I knew it I KNEW IT
P.S. I haven’t announced her here, but I have a new (ish) Aurora fan-character! 😀 Haven’t made a digital ref yet, but she’s a Ferin and her name is Wyn. She generally disapproves of everything, so I think she’d get along with Falst ok.
As for discussions, uhh, all for me today is just how I love the line “Counterpoint: Falst.”
“His perspective is more worldly.” It’s good to see that Erin values Falst for the right reasons. Yeah, he’s full of hubris, but that’s different from being an arrogant jerkface who looks down on anyone less powerful or less clever than he is. Being aware of his own awesomeness doesn’t keep him from acknowledging other people’s awesomeness.
Was today when the Characters page got updated to add Tess and Dainix to the Protagonist’s section, or did I miss when that happened? They used to be under Everyone Else
@Question Master
The only reason I don’t is because I do not have a physical cork board in my house, nor do I have a copious amount of thumbtacks lying around. Although, if Red keeps dropping hints like this and not telling us what his deal is, I might have to use the wall.
@Shakal
It was a couple days ago- at the start of this chapter, I believe.
Edit to my previous comment: The reason I’m so excited about Falst’s mane is that I gave Wyn the exact mane Falst has, and I’m so happy I guessed right that that would be a thing:>
@Alleyyy @Dusty Maybe the mane is the reason why Falst doesn’t want any of Erin’s shirts. That looks like it’d make a collar really uncomfortable for him, and we’ve never seen Erin without a collared shirt.
I was going to make a joke that the only thing stopping me from making a string board is that I don’t have a coarkboard, but now that I think about it, why DO we put so much weight on Erin’s backstory in particular, as opposed to, say, Falst’s, for example? Because I think that with this level of theorizing it’s got to be due to narrative framing as opposed to just character popularity– is it because we get more breadcrumbs for Erin, or because his past is framed like more of a mystery?
Oh my goodness, I love Tess. She’s just spitting straight facts and bringing up what we were all asking in the last page in the best way possible: calling Falst the “little angry one” is gold, the absolute willingness to cut Erin off, and the completely deadpan delivery of all of her lines (I greatly appreciate the “you are making good points that have nothing to do with the star-eating dragon problem” + the fact that she’s cleaning her ear while saying that). Also she’s making a lot of fun expressions.
Basically, if she wasn’t one of my favourite characters before, she is now.
“You can take Falst off the protagonists list when you pry him from my cold dead hands. And even then good luck, because I will have glued him to my cold dead hands!”
Silly boy, Erin, Logic can’t overcome stubbornness. Sister’s will overcomes all arguments once her heart has been made up!
I hope we will see Tess and Alinua talk in future. Go Red!
.
The entire fanbase earlier, “What about Falst?”
Tess this page, “What about Falst?”
Thank you Tess.
Now we just need to start thinking of a ship name for Erin/Falst. Elst? Farin? The R&D department will work on it.
I don’t think there are many fanfics for Aurora at the moment, but a fic where the team is Falst’s harem should definitely be called The Lion’s Pride. The RnD department will work on it.
WOAH Woah WOAH!!! ANYONE ELSE SEEING THE CRACKS ON TESS’ SKIN!?!?
I looked back and she’s had them for a few pages! It makes sense and it’s an incredible detail but it makes me worry for our favorite golden girl!!!
@My name is not important, and I’m not going to tell you what it is.
Still here! Thanks for filling in while my comment was being moderated! You can see it at the top right now.
@Tony Alighieri
Welcome back! If you haven’t already, you should see all the comments on Page 5 of this chapter. You’ll love them.
@LilacSpiral
I think it’s because there are more breadcrumbs for Erin. His Whole Deal has basically all been confirmed in bits and peices. Now all we need is the actual details.
For Falst, we know almost nothing. All we know is that he has Daddy Issues. We also have the line;
“Find your way if you are truly my son” At the very start of chapter 15? not sure what chapter. Until there’s any actual hints to draw from there really aren’t any theories to be made.
Though Erin could make the next panel super angsty by saying, “Don’t you?” referencing how she left when they were young. You know. Angsty backstory stuff. But I don’t know that he necessarily will. They seem to get along well now, and he mostly blames himself, not her, for whatever happened in their past.
am i only one thinking contemplating if we get water stone and wind party member before story ends? we have life fire and lightning avata- i mean erin(also kind of count as void) Kendal representing gods Falst non magic in general? Or maybe thats too predictable?(also party may be to big?)
erin really chose THE most homoerotic way to talk to falst about his possession thing. like talking to your buddy about how he should really leave for his own safety because you could kill him very easily and to have him reply with something that meant that he wasn’t very worried while your buddy is shirtless is…a choice. like i don’t ship them but erin. really.
Triple C:
That’s the scar from when she got struck by natural lightning several years ago; the event that gave her the missing spark that she mentioned in chapter… 14? If I remember correctly (the Zuurith chapters kind of blur together in my mind). Bottom line, it’s nothing to be concerned about.
I’m really enjoying this backstory-building downtime. My Erin string board is getting complicated! I just took off the “Aseran ambassador dad took Erin to the SoulShaper monks because he couldn’t bear to have an ordinary kid” string (it was bright green), and have replaced it with a purple string leading to “Erin sought out the SoulShaper monks.”
There’s a red string leading from there to a question mark — how does one repay the SoulShaper monks? Large donations? Quests? They’re monks do it’s not like it’s a for-profit business.
honestly i dont know why i expected falst to be skinny when he is easily able to hang off a tree with one leg, frequently does acrobatics, scales walls with ease, and effortlessly takes down people way over a foot taller than him.

1. In case JessieE didn’t see this last page, I’ll post it here, too. Again, you’re welcome. https://twitter.com/zer0_w0lf/status/1588309132066504704

Aurora Question #4: Admit it, you’ve got a string board for Erin’s Backstory.
not a physical one but I do keep a mental list.
Lol i find it funny discord discussion from the last update had the exact same Falst question
All very good points all over this page!
(Wohoo, Tess is staying)
OH GOD OH GOD OH GOD OH GOD HOH GOD
Tess putting herself on the protagonist list whether Erin wants her there or not
/starts timer waiting for the first ‘shirtless falst’ comment/
The fact that Falst never stole a fresh shirt from Erin’s bag in a ll this time, despite the absolute state of what he’s wearing, shows incredible restraint on his part.
And/or (possibly performative) contempt for Erin’s stuff.
Glad to see some love for Falst! The last page was beautiful, but I was a little sad when he didn’t get a cool visual with the other three.
Hah! Erin you sucker, you just got friendshipped!
also i don’t know what it is about panel 5 but it absolutely made me crack up
@Question Master, that’s not a question, and you can’t prove anything.
Now if you’ll excuse me i’ve got some notes I need to colour code
She’s got you there dude.
And even then, good luck! Because I will have glued Falst to my cold dead hands.
Your sister ain’t gonna let you go it alone, no matter how much you want to.
Slight inconsistency I noticed when going back to chapter 11 just now:

For those of you who remember me as Varda Alighieri, I’m back and I’m trans! It’s been a while since I entered the comment section.

FALST IS SO MUSCULAR. LOOK AT HIS SHOULDERS. LOOK AT HOW BEEFY THEY ARE.

Everyone seems to be loving Erin’s new outfit but…
I want the white sleeves and tan vest back. I. I just. That was the best outfit ever okay.
Erin: So you see, Falst stays with us because he saved our lives and doesn’t care for the danger presented by the Void Dragon!
Tess: Wow, what a coincidence, I fill all those requirements!
@Rai626 I think Falst’s shirt is wet because it was raining during part of the fight with Tynan so it would make sense that he’s a little wet.

I’m with you on that one; he is impressively chonky.

TL;DR: Looks like all of you guessed it. Catboy is lightning lady’s counterpoint.
But also, he isn’t going anywhere, and neither is she.
There once was a lightning girl
Whose power could make hair curl.
She made a good case
for reserving her place,
Making her brother’s head whirl.
All of this for Tess to say

does this mean tess will be a permanent member of the party? if so, we need to throw a party.
OMG the expressions! I love how fiercely Erin & Tess are making their points and counterpoints. However, Tess made the best: ‘counterpoint’. ^_^
Also – Hi Tony! Welcome back to the comments section!
WOAH Woah WOAH!!! ANYONE ELSE SEEING THE CRACKS ON TESS’ SKIN!?!?

Now I need to make fanart of a welcome Tess and Dainix party.
Caled it. Also Tess is right, of course she isn’t going to leave just because it’s dangerous.
Last thought for today- very off topic, but is Tess’s hair like steel wool or what’s its deal
@Alleyyy
I’ve often wondered that too.
I am having a fantastic time here!

Red, I hear your voice when Tess speaks 😉

I don’t think Red is a deep enough alto, and her vocal cords don’t ring metallically. Otherwise, though, yeah.
We love an aggressively supportive sister. Love you, Tess.

So wait, is she arguing that you should abandon him, or not?
Now and then when one of the characters talks I read it in Red’s voice
This is one of those times lmao
I like how Tess says that Erin doesn’t leave people behind, it’s heartwarming!
I’m finally caught up!!! i really like this comic 😀
“The little angry one” Oh, Tess, don’t let Falst hear you say that!

You know, I think every superhero team needs a member whose powers basically just amount to “Is short and mad.”
1.11.33 wow, he actually told him later
