What the alt text said. Tynan was def gonna kill Ken Doll anyway.
However, he also wanted to draw it out, savour it, crush people hopes. I guess that’s what he means — that he will forgo that pleasure.
Can we just have a moment of silence for Kendal’s shirt? i mean i’m obviously really upset to see our boy get absolutely hounded for just trying to keep his friends safe and happy, but i think Kendal’s shirt might be our first real canon death (you know… aside from…. well… you know) because i do’nt think there’s any coming back from all of the abuse it’s suffered in this page alone, let alone the last few chapters.
RIP Kendal’s shirt, you were put through a lot of sh*t, but my god did you last a hell of a long time
With lightning force it hurls Kendal-
Into the ground he flew.
Standing over the body the dragon looks at Erin,
And bellows like thunder, “YOU!”
“I don’t know how you did that to me-”
Erin stares, one eye yellow, one blue,
“But try it again and I will kill him right here!”
Void-struck Alinua, still healing, and Falst stare too.
Ah, the humble beginnings of the one who shall provide the alt text and image source for all who cannot find it themselves… and shall also be the first to comment every single time.
Wouldn’t that be a bonus for Void? I mean, except for Dainix potentially killing Erin even faster if Kendal dies… but Tynan really doesn’t understand Void’s priorities.
Maybe it’s just Marvel Movie Fight Scene Fatigue (TM), but I’ll admit that the thread for this whole sequence has blurred into incoherence for me and that I am anxiously awaiting a denouement where everyone can just talk to each other in soft voices and emotionally process this entire mess over fantasy mead.
Dang this chapter has been hard on their clothing. I kind of hope there’s just like, a quick shopping scene after the fight because a) it’d be funny, and b) they deserve a break that isn’t ruined by certain gods and bounty hunters
holy hell the half eye thing on Erin is. WOW. that’s a look! ever tried colored contacts, Erin?
Plus Alinua’s looking better! …marginally?
GOSH I love the shot of Kendal from below Tynan’s belly.
Erin’s clothes have been tattered six ways from Sunday for about a full chapter now, Kendal’s shirt has been hanging by a thread the entire time , and Dainix doesn’t subscribe to such extravagance as covering his upper half. By contrast I think it’s interesting that Shrike, Arenamaster, and both Zuurith and Tynan’s incarnations had like. The Most Clothes On. Yes they’re being purposely ostentatious and not meant to be drawn for long periods of time, I just clocked it as a potential point of comparison
hope Dainix can reform himself quickly and slap Tynan into the sun. and I still hope all of his recent screen time means we get to see more of Tahraim and Caliban sometime soon
@OG Ryan that’s understandable. i mean, this battle started in full at the beginning of chapter 16, with Kendal vs Tynan (phase 1), and we’re now in chapter 18. personally, i think Red has done as best as can be expected at pacing this battle considering all the characters, dialogue, and exposition she’s included, whilst still making it feel like an epic end-of-season showdown. but yes, this fight needs to come to an end soon, and i’m sure it will be over by the end of this chapter
Wait wasn’t Tynan doing his best to kill Kendal already?? So why, now that Tynan can dispose of Kendal, that he doesn’t?? Eh. I guess he’s a hostage now- on that note… Come ON, Alinua!! Kendal needs you!
I’m waiting for a big glowy green scene soon. We haven’t had one in awhile.
…Okay, looking at the impact in panel 2, I rescind my statement from the previous page; Kendal has not survived worse injuries than this. I had thought his burns from The Void Dragon’s attack in chapter 5 and the attempted bone atomization by the chimera in chapter 8 were worse… but combination massive laceration, electric shock, and hard tumbling impact… yeah, that’s worse.
Interesting look, how Erin’s right eye is fully his, while his left is fully Void’s.
V.D.: … Well in that case-
Erin: NOOO!
Notice how the raindrops in the second panel are all still orbs in the air. I bet that WHAM is Tynan slamming his legs down and the shockwave on the ground lifted the drops to create the effect. His wings are damaged but he still has most of his heft.
As @veggiesnake and others said, Ali is almost finished with the self-heals. Just as well as Kendal could use some healing now, and if Alinua has time some binding vines around Tynan would be really useful right now.
Congratulations Tynan, you are once again centre of attention and arch rainer-of-parades, figuratively and literally. However, he hasn’t lapsed into his theatrical style and is threatening people not to try anything; that Void incident has certainly shaken him. Maybe the gang should wait for him to get back to gloat mode before resuming the fight.
Tynan’s reaction to an embarrassing void attack is apparently hostage-taking. A little dramatic but you know, Storm of Terror and all. I’m sure this will only go well for him considering how Dainix reacted the last time someone literally just touched Kendal.
…Is that a paraphrased Blade Runner quote? It sounds familiar…
Aside from that, it looks like the Floof Squad has hit their first darkest before the dawn’ moment. (Although there’s not much else it could be considering Kendal’s half-dead, Alinua’s incapacitated, Erin and Voidy are probably spent, Falst can’t really do anything against a dragon, and Dainix is flat-out gone (At least for the moment), leaving Tess (of currently unknown status health-wise) as the only one possibly able to do something…)
Time, perhaps, for an archivist-ex-machina? After all, it’s been a few pages since we last checked in with June, and there was clearly something up with her…
(Which, sidenote, Erin/Voidy’s current heterochromia looks awesome, though hopefully (for now, at least, since there is potential comedy and drama) they don’t get stuck like that).
I will say I kinda agree with OG Ryan on how long this fight scene has taken, but I know that that’s just due to the update schedule–even with as much content as there is, it would be faster to read through if the entire sequence was posted and could be read all in one sitting. Though I do kind of hope we’re near the end of the escalating Kaiju fight…again, might just be the update schedule, but the constant one-upping plot-twists are wearing a little thin…
(This is the tournament arc, isn’t it? That’s got to be it, this is Aurora’s tournament arc…)
Side note, someone posted under my name yesterday, so I’m gonna be signing my posts for a few pages in case it happens again. Consider this also a test-run for a different username if it comes to that.
–Kiranth
(PS-might spell it Kiranthe, still trying to figure out which looks better. Thoughts?)
Considering all the dragons we’ve seen lately, here’s a dragon-themed post: If the Floof Squad were HTTYD dragonriders, what would their partner dragon be? Feel free to post for the villains, too!
Alinua: “Kendal, no!”
Tynan: looks at Kendal in confusion
Alinua: “Don’t tell Erin to do it anyways!”
Kendal: “…how did you know I was gonna say that?”
Dainix: “I’ve known you for less than a day and I knew you’d say that.”
I still think Kendal is stupid tough. I sneer at Voidy’s last statement! Kendal may not get up and do anything more this fight but he will survive or eat my plot shorts!
@Skye yes it IS a paraphrased quote! but not from blade runner (which i haven’t seen). you might know it from the end of xenoblade chronicles 1, which i recently completed. idk, kendal’s main character-energy, flowing gold hair, magic sword, protector-personality type, tendency to fight gods, and panel 1 reminded me of the final boss, so… i found it funny, at least
@OG Ryan Thankfully, we seem to be at the lowest point and approaching the point where Kendal figures out how he’s connected to the sword and defeats Tynan. But yeah, that’s the problem with webcomic production schedules. Maybe Red should consider uploading these long, fast-moving fights in coherent chunks, each ending with a cliffhanger as the fight changes (e.g VD would show up on the last page of a chunk, then Tynan coming back would be the end of that chunk.) It’d mean not updating for longer times, but it’d feel less drawn.
Nice to see that Voidy and Erin have decided to go halfsies in terms of possession. I think it was a good idea; the one eye being purple and the other being black and yellow is a really nice contrast.
So looks like we’ve got a classic elemental rock paper scissors going on here. Void beats storm. Fire beats void. Starmetal negotiates a truce with fire. Storm sneaks up and sucker punches starmetal because it is a sore loser. That all seems typical and sensible.
oh man, a lot going on here, what strikes me the most to talk about at the moment (despite the obvious Kendal situation) is Erin/VD’s eyes and who’s in control. at first glance it looks as though Erin is pulling through, but I’m not sure how much is really him, he’s obviously partially in control given the fact that his eye is changing and that he’s holding his shirt together (which voidy didn’t seem to care about), but on the other hand it’s taking longer than I would have expected. first off look at the face he’s making, if you cover one eye at a time it looks a lot more natural when it’s VD, and his hand is still shaking a good deal leading me to believe he’s struggling to do anything right now.
@GreatWrymGold, that had me laughing out loud, it’s so accurate XD
@OG Ryan, yeah, I definitely see what you mean, I’ve felt that way a bit myself, but I do agree with @veggiesnake that with everything Red’s incorporated it has to be difficult to get the pacing right, and it seems like she’s trying to make it work better for reading it all in one go instead of as it’s uploading.
first: I love tynan threatening and holding Kendal hostage. I’m not sure how well it’ll work, seeing as he’s trying to bargain with Walter, but it’s very cool to see.
Secondly, I love how you can see the split between Erin and Walter, and not just with the eyes. Walter is looking dramatic, with billowing shirt and cloak (or scraps thereof), while Erin is cowering and trying to hold himself together.
Clearly Erin has some control here. Is he going to try to use void magic himself?
@not-enough-dragons
gonna be interesting when Dainix joins the team. going to be interesting with Dainix willing (or almost eager) to sacrifice himself for Kendal, who is suicidally heroic.
@Skye — I agree, the update schedule makes this fight drawn out and exhausting at this point. More of a Marvel Movie Fight Scene(TM) In Slow Motion. Great for mid-discussion discussion, not so good for pacing. (Oh, great, now I have a story idea of heavyweight boxing where the actual boxing is paused mid punch for the gamblers….)
Options? Dainix returns? The Paladins making an appearance? (But they’d go after Erin, not so much Tynan.) Alinua can make a play, but Life won’t take action against Tynan. The Void Dragon might decide he needs Kendal as a shield against Dainix, and that he’s still had it with Tynan. But if the Void Dragon makes an appearance and the Paladins show… no matter which way I slice it, it’s a hot mess.
“the memory… of a shirt… everything that i am… it is… vanishing…”
well, Alinua looks almost void free, Dainix has been wafted somewhere, and Falst hasn’t been much help at all so far 🙁
so i’d say this might be Tess’s moment to make a triumphant return, possibly?
Time for “Whoom!” I guess.

RIP kendal’s shirt, you had a good run. Kendal must be half saiyan though because his pants are miraculously unharmed.
What the alt text said. Tynan was def gonna kill Ken Doll anyway.

RIP Kendal’s shirt, you were put through a lot of sh*t, but my god did you last a hell of a long time
i swear that floof is magic
Clearly the most important thing going on in this page is that Kendal is not wearing a shirt
So where am I supposed to direct my thirst comments about panel 1?
With lightning force it hurls Kendal-
Into the ground he flew.
Standing over the body the dragon looks at Erin,
And bellows like thunder, “YOU!”
“I don’t know how you did that to me-”
Erin stares, one eye yellow, one blue,
“But try it again and I will kill him right here!”
Void-struck Alinua, still healing, and Falst stare too.
Dainix, would you be a dear, regenerate and light this other dragon dude on fire. Thanks. You’re a peach.
Image source for this page is “you,” for those viewing this on mobile.
Ah, the humble beginnings of the one who shall provide the alt text and image source for all who cannot find it themselves… and shall also be the first to comment every single time.
Ouch! That’s gotta hurt!
Tynan is very upset.
Time for round two then?
It’s like that one moment from the video game Portal 2 in the final bossfight… “I TOLD you not to put these cores on me!”
Man, Kendal’s back cannot catch a break
@LordHints
Was that pun accidental?
The boy is back! He takes hostages now
Tynan is enraged, and will make Voidy bow
Wouldn’t that be a bonus for Void? I mean, except for Dainix potentially killing Erin even faster if Kendal dies… but Tynan really doesn’t understand Void’s priorities.
Maybe it’s just Marvel Movie Fight Scene Fatigue (TM), but I’ll admit that the thread for this whole sequence has blurred into incoherence for me and that I am anxiously awaiting a denouement where everyone can just talk to each other in soft voices and emotionally process this entire mess over fantasy mead.

That’s the first time we’ve seen Kendal drop his sword involuntarily.

TL;DR: I will break you by holding your ally hostage! Works every time!

Ah, crap, the italics got bugged again… Sorry about that.
Dainix pull through… Dainix pull through… Dainix pull through
Cause while Erin most certainly does not want Kendal dead, Voidy might have other plans
Question of the Day:

Dainix: “I’ve known you for less than a day and I knew you’d say that.”
Kendal – Stormcutter
Erin- The Wodensfang
Falst – Gronckle
Aliuna – Basic Brown
Tess – Rocket Ripper
The Collector – Night Fury
Void Dragon – Seadragonus Giganticus Maximus
Tynan – Screaming Death
Zuurith – Shockjaw
Arenamaster – Octodangle
Shrike – Riproarer
Vash – Light Fury
Dainix – Exterminator
Caliban – Emperor Beetleboog Bolderbug
Tahraim – Nightmare
The Wodensfang isn’t a species; it’s the name of a specific dragon
I still think Kendal is stupid tough. I sneer at Voidy’s last statement! Kendal may not get up and do anything more this fight but he will survive or eat my plot shorts!

Prediction? Next move is Tess, followed by dragon whompage, then Dainix.
Some how some reason I get the feeling of an impending, “Bart”esc “ow” from Kendall. Maybe it’s the starmetal in his system.
Poor Alinua.
Why is Red allergic to letting everyone have a shirt at the same time?
Wait, wait, wait… Erin has tattoos on his leg too?!? Can those do anything or are they just decorative?
we havent seen tess in a bit
im prepared for the next villainous monologue be interrupted by a violent bonkening
Anorien:
Those are not tattoos, those are pants with holes in them, and shadows across the exposed skin.
And I know I’m late, again, but thank you @veggiesnake for the Xenoblade reference.
When the dragon wants his screen time back.
