…HEY, VOIDY?! I’m sure your self-obsessed egoistical behaviour won’t eeever come back to bite you in the butt. As it already has several times, only this fight.
You gloating little drainclog.
But, the art though. THE ART! Lighting effects and shadows and wheee~!
Pantomime audience: He’s behind you!
Erin’s back, Tynan’s back and Kendal’s back … is severely injured, Erin or Alinua should see to that. Man that “SCHRIKKT” sound effect looks painful with the broken lightning lettering and the mixing of lightning, embers and Kendal’s blood.
Note that wind shield being built up in panels 3 and 4 before finishing in the final panel, nice buildup. Also note how it doesn’t seem like Erin is touching his tattoos; is V.D. the one making that shield? Would make sense since said shield is only protecting Erin.
Regardless, V.D. is still sort of in control and may still be able to attack Tynan as he did before, plus Dainix is bound to reform after that slash. However Tynan is a lot closer to them, and is aware of the threat V.D. poses; if he’s smart he’ll focus on killing a mind-conflicted Erin. If was really smart he’d have dis-incarnated and fled the battle, but alas, he has an ego to please.
Tynan’s back… but, what’s this, he’s on the ground in range of the melee fighter who is literally made of fire at the moment. I’ve got a sneaky hunch that this might be time for one of the few 1v1 combinations that hasn’t happened yet this arc xD
AH HA. I KNEW Background Tynan would be relevant. It wasn’t in the way I expected, but I KNEW it.
Erin coming through momentarily is awesome (I really like the panel with one of the eyes starting to turn back to blue to show it) and the speech bubble effect is conveying the situation very well. I’m not quite sure why he slapped himself in the face other than for dramatic effect though, does anyone have any ideas?
I really hope that either Alinua or Erin recover quickly, because THAT looked painful (and also, as stated by many previous commenters, the SHRIKKT is very well done)
RIP Kendal’s shirt
Can’t wait to see Kendal actually pull out the starfire. Maybe he’ll do a Starfire Soulfire team up, or maybe this is Kendall’s moment
Kendal, who has survived worse: “‘Tis but a scratch!”
It seems the void magic left holes in Tynan’s wings. At least he can no longer rain down such city-leveling devastation as he did before… now he just rains.
Man, Dainix can’t catch a break. Seems that nearly every other page he gets torn apart, only to reform seconds later to experience it all over again.
Shit, that did not sound good. I’m no expert in human anatomy, and Kendal’s doesn’t follow the standard construction–but was that his spine that just got shredded?
And Dainix just got torn apart and scattered again… Here’s hoping he can reconstitute quickly, Kendal’s in serious trouble right now–they all are.
Love Erin’s eyes in the third panel as he’s fighting the possession–the slight uncanniness is the perfect touch. And if you looks close you can see that the widening pupil and mostly-blue iris aren’t the only signs of his increasing control–the sclera is starting to pale, too.
To LilacSpiral:
Either Walter was about to attempt something while Kendal was distracted and Erin redirected the hand to thwart him, or Erin deliberately slapped himself to use the pain as a focus for himself or a distraction for Walter in order to snatch a little more control back so he could try to warn Kendal (and by extension Dainix) Unfortunately, it came too late…
Okay, so this could very well be Tynan taking advantage of the distraction to strike, and Voidy letting him so that Kendal gets taken out, but wasn’t there a section earlier about VD and the Light Dragon possessing other dragons to do battle? Maybe it’s VD possessing Tynan or controlling his form on purpose.
Let’s give the villains a little bit of love today. If each antagonist we’ve seen so far was a Gym Leader, what would their specialty and gym theme or puzzle be?
If I had a nickel every time Dainix’s Fire body was completely ripped apart suddenly by a dragon in the span of what appears to be mere minutes, I’d have two nickels. Which isn’t a lot but it’s weird that it happened twice.
So let me get this striaght: Tynan was easily holding his own against Kendall, Alinua, and Dainix, and then got stomped by VD, who then met his match in Fire!Dainix, and who has previously gotten easily stomped by Kendall and Alinua, but then Kendall manages to restrain both VD and Fire!Dainix, and Tynan gets back up somehow to stomp both Kendall and Fire!Dainix together…I feel like we need a chart here. Maybe with some thumbtacks and string.
@Skye
VD Walter would run a dark type gym
The Arenamaster would ostensibly run a fighting type gym but *somehow* always fields a team that counters your best pokemon
Zuurith would run an electric gym, except all his mons are terrible for the current meta
Shrike is a rock type trainer but knows how to navigate type advantages
The Collector has a plant-type gym, but if you beat her she whips out a team of legendaries
There once was a void-possessed mage
Who fought through the darkness and rage
To wake up and warn
His friend–oh darn!
The attack was too quick to gauge.
To Skye:
The Collector would be a grass type leader (as Hermit Thrush suggested), although maybe with a couple of ghost types mixed in. I’m not sure what her puzzle would be though, maybe something like decyphering runes to find your way to the right cavern (idk it just kind of fits her vibe), or just one of those straightforward “fight x amount of trainers to get to me” challenges
VD would be a dark type specialist (obviously). I think the gym puzzle would be one of those maze-y ones, so you descend through a bunch of floors to a central towards a room in the middle.
Shrike would probably be either a rock, ground, or steel type specialist the former 2 to align with her stone connection, and the latter to her bounty hunter stuff (rn I’m kind of leaning towards steel, but the other two would also work quite well). Maybe her gym puzzle would be like a chase sequence, where you have to avoid being detected (and run if you are) to avoid trainer battles until you get to her
Zuurith, I’m not sure. Maybe ice to fit his more “cold” view towards his citizens and how he looks strong but as shown by Tynan, shatters kind of easily. Maybe his puzzle would be almost like a series of rooms with like, a Simon Says-style challenge in each to work with the whole “rules” thing he has going on in the city.
The Arenamaster would probably serve more as a proxy than anything: A series of hard battles leading up to him that you can’t heal between, but he himself has a comparatively weak team. Maybe a fighting type specialist? Or poison. I’m not sure
And Tynan would specialize in water and/or electric, and then jumpscare you at the end of the fight with a kingdra or some other dragon type. He’s pretty theatrical, so maybe there wouldn’t be as much of a puzzle. Probably a small trainer gauntlet on a stage or something that results in Tynan being a sudden difficulty spike for players. I imagine that he’d also end up using a lot of attack-buffing moves in his fight to try to intimidate the player into making a mistake and build up dread before crashing down with some powerful attack.
this feels very reminiscent of when the Arenamaster showed up behind Falst and Alinua and Falst’s first reaction is just “WHY ARE YOU STILL HERE?!” but I mean, it was still very fitting then too.
it took me a minute to figure out that the stuff spewing from Kendal was blood, at first, I thought it was void but realized that didn’t make sense.
@WEast: as cool as that would be, I really don’t think that’s what’s happening here. first of all: Erin seems to still be fighting for control and if void had just possessed Tynan then I feel like he wouldn’t be struggling anymore. second: Tynan has a lot more reason to be angry (especially with Kendal) at the moment and the dragon is obviously MAD. third: if either the void dragon or the light dragon were possessing him don’t you think his eye color would change or be actively changing?
Yea I definitely forgot Tynan was still there lol. I was wrong about what would happen immediately, I suppose. Kinda hilarious to see Erin just smack himself in the face.
So that’s what voidy meant when he said “I think I am going to miss you” last page :0 You can see some blue reflecting in his eyes in the seventh panel- which was Tynan!
Way to subvert the ‘I Know you’re in There’ trope Red! I second all the praise for this page! I love all the wonderful insights people posted about this page too!
hey uhh… I know we’re all worried about fleshy kendal but what about danix? is our fire man okay? he got hit even more directly than kendal. and. I’m worried.
Was the I’m going to miss you from the end of last page a “I’m going to miss bantering with you while Erin pilots this meat suit” or “I’m going to miss you because Tynan is about to murder you”?
…Okay, so it looks like someone posted as Skye on Aug 12 asking about accounts. That wasn’t me. I don’t think I posted anything on this page since the QotD, and I know for a fact I didn’t post anything Aug 2.
Oh noooes
Erin may be back
But you must look behind since
Tynan ain’t done yet!
Took a moment before I saw Tynan’s eyes behind Kendal. So we’re back to where we were before Void showed up?
Shit.
rude!!!!!!!!!
Sir. SIR!
I am trying to have a conversation with my possessed twink.
Darwin Award of the year goes to… Tynan! For attacking someone who managed to make the guy who was just obliterating them back off.
i mean, “look behind you” is the oldest trick in the book, i maybe would have let tynan strike me too
Well, let the kaiju fight proceed!
His hands swing up, slap over his face,
“Erin?” Kendal asks.
A blue eye peeks out, “be-behind-!”
The Storm Dragon strikes!
Don’t you hate it when the minions in a fight try to interfere?
Oh. Oh no. Oooh noooo….
CALLED IT! Tynan was getting back up.
Meanwhile, Alinua in the background: “GODSDAMMIT KENDAL NOT AGAIN!!!”
my goodness, kendal cannot catch a break. he has been struck a severe blow to the back, what? 27 times in the battle?
idk if Life has taken a week off or something but it’s time to engage! heal alinua, heal kendal AGAIN, and assert dominance over VD, please!
Did… Did Dainix just get swatted?
Tynan must hate Kendal’s back, this is the second time already that he’s slashed it open.

Alt text: very pleased with how that sound effect came out
That’s rough buddy.
I feel like Dainix should have been able to do something to stop Tynan from slicing Kendal, but idk.
NOOOOO!!!! KENDAL!!!!!!
Tynan’s back… but, what’s this, he’s on the ground in range of the melee fighter who is literally made of fire at the moment. I’ve got a sneaky hunch that this might be time for one of the few 1v1 combinations that hasn’t happened yet this arc xD
With all that supremacy talk you’d think void dragon could kill one little thunder dragon god
Someone is about to get crushed by about “four world shaking powers” simultaneously.
OH SHIT KENDAL!
That is the angriest looking dragon I’ve ever seen.
Maybe we should’ve let Walter finish Tynan off before we made him let go of Erin.
AH HA. I KNEW Background Tynan would be relevant. It wasn’t in the way I expected, but I KNEW it.

Walter tries to return Erin’s control
And Tynan fills the “right behind you” role
TL;DR: Don’t forget the massive villain lying off to the side, you dingus.
Oof. If only we had an unkillable fire being here to finish off Tynan.
Minutes, since Alinua had to heal Kendal: 0 :'(
@LilacSpiral my guess would be to shut up VD Walter long enough to get a word in edgewise
RIP Kendal’s shirt
Can’t wait to see Kendal actually pull out the starfire. Maybe he’ll do a Starfire Soulfire team up, or maybe this is Kendall’s moment

I just noticed Erin/VDs hand shake on the last panel of last update, pretty cool
The page looks gorgeous too. Great work!
Okay, so this could very well be Tynan taking advantage of the distraction to strike, and Voidy letting him so that Kendal gets taken out, but wasn’t there a section earlier about VD and the Light Dragon possessing other dragons to do battle? I like to think that Kendal knows it’s Erin solely because “whap” is such an Erin sound effect.
Question of the Day:
Let’s give the villains a little bit of love today. If each antagonist we’ve seen so far was a Gym Leader, what would their specialty and gym theme or puzzle be?
If I had a nickel every time Dainix’s Fire body was completely ripped apart suddenly by a dragon in the span of what appears to be mere minutes, I’d have two nickels. Which isn’t a lot but it’s weird that it happened twice.
Why are you still alive?
Ouch, Kendal. That must have HURT. Alinua’s gonna be so mad when she sees this…
So let me get this striaght: Tynan was easily holding his own against Kendall, Alinua, and Dainix, and then got stomped by VD, who then met his match in Fire!Dainix, and who has previously gotten easily stomped by Kendall and Alinua, but then Kendall manages to restrain both VD and Fire!Dainix, and Tynan gets back up somehow to stomp both Kendall and Fire!Dainix together…I feel like we need a chart here. I *thought* the rain had been picking up again.
I thought Tynan was dead?!?
Tynan, who said that you could come out of time out? Go sit yourself down, right. now. ??
For some reason, the third panel makes me think of the time I drew a VD possessed Kendal (which happened over 2.5 years ago, damn).
Angy dragon gets the KICK! *bONCC*
Someone is not happy about being upstaged.
Dammit. If our problems aren’t gonna cancel each other out, can’t one of them put the other down for good? Stupid problems.
Oh yeah I thought he was dead

Oh on Erin’s left eye you can see it fading from glowy yellow back to blue. Or maybe that’s just lighting- but it still looks cool!
Tynan’s wings are covered in holes, but nowhere else is. hmmmm
Tynans angry
forgot he was here
Erin’s back! So that was *his* shakey hand!
Yea I definitely forgot Tynan was still there lol. I was wrong about what would happen immediately, I suppose. Kinda hilarious to see Erin just smack himself in the face.
facepalm ex machina babY
can you have duplicate accounts?
There’s always a “bigger” fish.
So that’s what voidy meant when he said “I think I am going to miss you” last page :0 You can see some blue reflecting in his eyes in the seventh panel- which was Tynan!
Can we stop trying to kill Kendal for 5 seconds people!!
Aluina probable
Way to subvert the ‘I Know you’re in There’ trope Red! I second all the praise for this page! I love all the wonderful insights people posted about this page too!
I love that Erin flight through just to get Kendall back on track. It’s very in-character.
So was I right about string theory and dark matter?
I concede that it may not be 100%
I concede that I did it “by eye”
“I concede that I lived” (Loved)
hey uhh… I know we’re all worried about fleshy kendal but what about danix? is our fire man okay? he got hit even more directly than kendal. and. I’m worried.
I’m just starting to realize the meme potential in that first panel

what a tricky fellow ^^
Tynan would like to remind everyone that he STILL is the current arc main villain.
