Awww, Kendal really needs to be useful here. But also, I think its a thing of living up to Vash’s legacy. He has to prove that he’s just as good as Vash was, to an extent. And I do think its gonna be that blue fire from the sword which actually does stop Tynan, but we’ll see. GAH so good.
Okay, but if Kendal and Tess are clearly much more effective against Tynan (I only say this because Falst is neither armed nor made of metal, and I doubt Alinua’s shrubberies will do much against a storm god) doesn’t it make more sense if they pair off like: Tess-Falst, Kendal-Alinua?
Otherwise, it seems like Tess and Kendal will be doing most of the distracting until Tynan just zaps over to Alinua and Falst and levels them both. I’m not sure how either of them can fight this god. Unless Falst finds some rocks to throw.
So, given Alinua mentioned the soil, my bet is that she’s planning on growing massive plants that can then be set on fire. Deal damage over time (and potentially a wider area) instead of the single bursts of damage that fireballs provide.
@uneasyDreamer
We’ve discussed this a bit in previous threads, that’s kind of a recent development.
Ok, Kendal, I know you’re being brave and whatever, but YOU ALREADY TRIED THAT. It didn’t go so hot if you recall.
I know that Kendal has to face off Tynan for… idk… plot parallel reasons? But it would be EPIC to see Ali destroy him. She’s still exhausted, though, so I doubt it would work very well.
@SarrissaTeiflingDruid i’m not actually sure how effective Alinua, or life magic in general, would be against Tynan. Like Erin said, there’s no life in a storm, so she won’t be able to do much unless she gets REALLY creative.
I think the important thing here is that Kendal CAN manifest the soulfire, but he needs the time to do it. All of his friends either directly attacking the manifestation or attacking the source of Tynan’s strength (the storm clouds) will give him the time he needs. Notice how desperate Tynan was to disrupt Kendal’s concentration every time he starts to manifest those flames. *That’s* what I’d love to see. Everyone working together AND Kendal living up to the legacy of his progenitor.
Was anyone else having problems loading this page, or is it just me?
Meanwhile, Tess is still having the time of her life offscreen.
I hope with all this casting, the area doesn’t run out of ambient fire energy before Tynan is destroyed. They are near a desert, i.e. a wellspring of fire energy, but the concern is still present.
uneasyDreamer:
They’re just reflecting the light of the magic, not intrinsically changing color themselves.
@TheUnknownGame
Wow, I didn’t think about that, yeah they could use up all the fire.
I wonder if soulfire uses ambient magic or something else, like, I don’t know, their soul.
I sincerely want both Tess and Dainix to permajoin the group. I know how Red loves her 5 Man Band trope, but this six person line-up can’t be beat (except by the seven person line-up you could get from adding Shrike just sayin)
For anyone who dares to contradict my previous comments let me give you four reasons why Shrike would be a great addition to the team. 1)She’s sassy 2)She would probably have great banter with Falst 3)Can you imagine the character development she could get if Trusk dies and she has to heal and learn to care again? 4)She’s hot don’t judge me.
I’m sure if one of the Floof Squad gets knocked out of the sky it will give Kendal the “You hurt my friend!” Outrage Power up needed to defeat the Thundering Prick.
@TheUnknownGame they do glow. There are a few instances in earlier chapters where they were probably just reflecting the light without changing color, but they definitely change now. Look at 1-15-12 (ice wall in the alley), the light from the magic/rune circle is behind Erin’s back, but his eyes still glow.
Hello it’s (formerly) Varda! I haven’t been very active here but I’m hoping to start commenting again. Turns out I’m transmasc and genderfluid! You can call me Tony now- it’s short for Anthony/Antonella/Tonic Water/whatever what it could reasonably be short for.
By default, I take any pronouns other than she/her with a preference for it/they/he.
In conclusion magicalballerinaprincess was right when she said one day I’d kin Erin so hard I’d trans my gender.
I love how many of the dudes have long hair, beautiful hair. Granted, Kendal and Dainix probably smell really bad, given how many high effort things they’re doing without a shower, but they look amazing.
Also, it looks like Kendal(sword) has a ridge cross section, indicating that it is generally a thrusting sword. I get that starmetal is probably way more dense, hard, and ridged than normal sword steels, but what the heck. Judging by the size of the handle, the pommel, and the width and length of the blade, Kendal would have very strange blade harmonics. When a sword vibrates, there are two points that vibrate the least, preferably being where the wielder rests their primary hand’s index finger and about two thirds of the way towards the tip. The primary node, the part that vibrates the least on the blade, is the absolute best part for slashing with. The secondary node, the part around your hand, would probably be closer to the gemstone on Kendal. That said, the only way to check harmonics is to actually hold the sword, you can’t just eyeball it, though they are usually each about a quarter of the swords length in from either end.
Given how long the blade is, the center of balance would be (probably) closer to the tip than in almost any actual sword. This would make it really unwieldy for someone with mortal arms and body mass to use. If one could wield it successfully, it would have a very heavy, powerful slash.
The sword is only conceivable because of fantasy metal and being a literal god’s weapon, but those factors actually make the oddities cool.
I just realized something! Kendal wouldn’t need to be designed for harmonic use, as clearly starmetal hardly bends! Whenever Kendal is blocking Tynan with Kendal, the sword isn’t bending at all, and he’s blocking with the flat side, which would make it bend a ton, were it a normal sword. This means that the sword is hardly flexible, and the negative effects of poor harmonics will be reduced, as it won’t put as much force into wobbling.
An ordinary sword would be very brittle if it couldn’t bend like that, but again, this is a magic sword, made out of magic metal, for a literal God.
I love all of them. Unpopular opinion, I know.
Heck yes things are getting GOOOD
Oh also alt txt for this page is “you know, like I was already doing”
kendall, sometimes i want your friends to kick your ass into listening
Erin & Dainix: Flame Unit
Alinua & Falst: Defense Unit
Kendal & Tess: Distraction Unit
Okay, but if Kendal and Tess are clearly much more effective against Tynan (I only say this because Falst is neither armed nor made of metal, and I doubt Alinua’s shrubberies will do much against a storm god) doesn’t it make more sense if they pair off like: Tess-Falst, Kendal-Alinua?

oh, kendal. the gods forbid anyone but yourself puts their life on the line.
Haha fire
TL;DR: Fine, you can help, but I must be the one doing the riskier stuff.
Just get him into webcomics, that’ll distract him for a while!
Honestly Kendal, Tess is handling Tynan alright by herself.
Meanwhile Tynan’s off frame tapping his foot. “Are you guys done plotting yet? Man, I hate these authorial mandated pauses.”
Kendall, honey… no. Let your friends help you, they’re more than capable!!
Erin and Dainix ready themselves
To strike the storm with fire,
Until it cannot form a body,
With the others drawing it’s ire.
And Falst and Alinua prepare themselves
The Storm’s avatar to hunt-
But Kendal tells them to protect the casters,
Whilst he bears the Storm’s brunt.
@pilgrim
Hah, It’s more like Tynan’s saying “Stop” *thwack* “Punch…” *thwack* “…ing” *thwack* “me” *thwack* “in” *thwack* “the” *thwack* “face!” *thwack thwack thwack*
So, given Alinua mentioned the soil, my bet is that she’s planning on growing massive plants that can then be set on fire. Deal damage over time (and potentially a wider area) instead of the single bursts of damage that fireballs provide.
Cities aren’t flammable, right?
Somewhat embarrassed to admit it, but I only just realised that Erin’s eyes change colour based on the magic he is currently channeling.

Look at the gang! Look at them! They’re all working together! *Happy friendship enjoyer noises*
Is it just me, or is the Aurora logo in the top corner slowly getting more and more glowy?

@Goldfinch Yes, I am doing the same noises ^-^
@TheUnknownGame

0/10 not enough Tess /j
where’s hellohaiku?
they’ve been gone for two days now
i really miss them
@BoloBRL Dainix is the one with “soulfire”, Kendal/Vash uses/used “*star*fire”
Is the fire boy getting an arm and eye like OG Vash did????
Tess on the next page: Nah, bro I got this handled.
Seriously though, she’s doing better against Tynan than Kendal did.
Floof squad has been brought together! Now it’s really Kendal’s turn for some “we care about you, let us help” talk towards him.
I bet five quatloos that Erin and Alinua will start helping him within five pages.
I sincerely want both Tess and Dainix to permajoin the group. I know how Red loves her 5 Man Band trope, but this six person line-up can’t be beat (except by the seven person line-up you could get from adding Shrike just sayin)

nooo little god boy dont let your desperation ruin your battle plans
@confusedqueer A mistake in nomenclature, I admit. I believe, when corrected for starfire, the point stands.
@UnknownGame you are not the only one having issues. Which reminds me, TY @inkynewt for posting the alt text!
I’m sure if one of the Floof Squad gets knocked out of the sky it will give Kendal the “You hurt my friend!” Outrage Power up needed to defeat the Thundering Prick.
