The whole comic is gorgeous, but you’ve outdone yourself with that last panel. 😀 I’d love to see a “How-to” on your process, since I have absolutely NO IDEA what goes into it and how long it takes. Buuuuut if it’s too emotionally draining for you, I’ll just skip the question about “How did you do it and how long did it take?” and just continue to enjoy your art. :3
That is one of the prettiest and most truly awesome set of gates to throw open!
Meanwhile, the arenamaster is having an aneurysm just out of frame.
It’s a good thing Alinua did this now, and not when she, Tess, and Falst were all trespassing on the slope like Falst wanted her to; without a crisis to distract Zuurith, he would’ve ordered the entire police force to converge on her.
@Nezzy i think the joke is that the thumbnail for this chapter in the comic archive depicts Kendal and Tynan, but Red keeps showing us everything happening other than their duel, which i’m enjoying a lot tbh. i already know that Tynan is smack-talking Kendal, i want to know what the Ruunaser siblings are doing about the storm, and how Alinua’s identity crisis is going
I meant to post this on Monday, but nevertheless
Tynan: Perfect, I’ll break the godling’s hope and thereby break the hope of all in Zuurith!
10 minutes later…
Tynan: What the Void are you!?
Kendal: I’m a himbo
@Zer0 W0lf: “Okay, I get that now, but are you sure you couldn’t have just told me that instead of giving me a panic attack?!
If asking about the time spent on the last panel would make you cry; I’ll ask you about the time spent on the first panel. Surely it was a lot less traumatic? 😀
I believe that by “misleading thumbnail”, Red is referring to the fact that the first panel of this page is practically a solid colour with little detail, while the final panel is likely one of the most intricate images Red has ever drawn.
I was unsure exactly how Alinua was going to crack the mountain open, genuinely wasn’t expecting her to literally split the tree in half like that. I thought she was going to have the tree split in two at the bottom and then have that separation grow upwards and push the stone above it higher, but this is more dramatic and visually interesting.
Hopefully this doesn’t displace the stone in any potentially dangerous directions and compromise the structural integrity of the mountain. Though, at least Zuurith won’t be able to use it as a prison again any time soon. I can already see some architects salivating at the possibilities for beautiful structures built from this new real estate.
oh she was being literal when she said “lets crack/rip the mountain open”
yes, I’ve been watching her crack the stone in the last few pages but I figured that it would end w a big hole in the side, not *literally ripping the mountain in half*
that last panel is cool as HECK, the effects between the tree and the center of the mountain are GORGEOUS
Alinua: LET MY PEOPLE GO! (splits the mountain like the Red sea)
I think everyone’s already said it, but I’ll say it too. That final panel is geourgous. Dark outside, green swirling tree bark on either side of the crack like a set of swinging doors revealing a warm glow inside. As great as this is I hope Red’s hand can catch a break next chapter. … Oh, and the cast could do with a break too.
Yes the Arenamaster is doubtless angry at this, but right now I’m thinking he’s more terrified than angry. Not only is the prison open and the inmates going to be freed with little-to-no guards to stop them but he just witnessed this titanic feat performed by ONE mage. Using life magic, not stone magic, to do it. What does he think of Alinua now?
Also makes me concerned the Collector might find out about Alinua at this rate. She knows enough about the outside world to plan her assault on Vash and know of Zuurith’s reputation. If she takes some time away from cutting up Vash to hear any outside news, she might get curious as to this ultra-powerful life mage.
Jesus Christ, dat last panel though… I mean, look at it! Its magnificent. The colours, the way the prison inside contrasts the tree, and their glow contrasting the mountain and rain. The way the tree is still stuck together in some places… I cannot get over how good it is, and I would type out a full essay on it, but it’s 2am where I am, so I’m getting some sleep.
Zuurith: We of the mountain are rooted deep in the stone, Tynan. I do not bend, and I will not yield.
Tynan: Then shatter.
Alinua: *unmountains the mountain city god*
@Evil Tree i’m not so sure that the Collector is so tuned into world events. it seems to me more that what she knows would be general but detailed historical and geographical knowledge thanks to decades or centuries of wandering. she might have even known Zuurith from it’s early days. but as long as she has Vash, it seems that she would be single-mindedly focused on her research. unless she can sense Alinua’s magic herself, i doubt that anything will deterr her from her current task
this page is a testament to the time put into it. While I am unsure as to the exact amount of time, I can say with certainty that EVERY SINGLE SECOND spent on each panel was well worth the investment. At least, on my end…
I would be willing to wait for a week without new Aurora pages if the quality of the story and art stays consistent. Take as much time as you want.
could you imagine if it was Falst or Kendal that that split open the tree instead of Alinua?
I want to see a show of strength on that level from falst because it would be very cool.
Well Red, they didn’t even ask about how long it took, and you answered it anyway on OSPod episode 44. Three days. It took you three days, which is dedication.
red that last panel looks AMAZING!!!!!!!!!!!! i wont ask how long it took but HOT DAMN THAT TIME PAID OFF!!!
Holy fuck, this last panel is magnificent!
Major props to you, Red!
if it’s any consolation that panel is really impressive✨?
HA! get rekyt zuurith and arenamaster
also sending hugs to red. gosh that looks high-effort and very pretty
Holy tree!!!
“We’re close” she says, moments before splitting the entire gods-damned cliffface in half.
Understatement of the year methinks.
“Alinua? Tell me we’re close.”
Asked Falst, and but a whisper
Was the reply. “We’re close.”
The tree burst forth before her.
holy hell, that last panel has GRANDEUR
can’t wait for Life to be like: “i told you so”
A breakthrough, at last!
Now the prisoners can leave.
All thanks to that tree!
(Bonus)
See? She was able
to split the mountain in twain
without Life Mum’s help!
CELEBRATIONS
That last panel is drop-dead gorgeous! Not only the drawings, which are amazing, but the composition really sells the climactic feel to that page!
Life: “Do you see now? What you are capable of achieving through your own power?”
I think I’ve discovered my new favourite Aurora sound effect (or whatever the written equivalent is)
“pok”
Last panel- SPECTACULAR!
So many SWIRLS! SWIRLS GALORE! OH MY GOSH, RED DO YOU HAVE CARPAL TUNNEL?! ARE YOU OK?!?
WOAH. That last panel is AMAZING. also YES! THE MOUNTAIN HAS BEEN OPENED!
TL;DR: …there it goes…
DANG that last panel is gorgeous!!

Red, the way you handle light in this comic is astounding. it looks so good.
That is one of the prettiest and most truly awesome set of gates to throw open!

Oh fething dear, dear me, this PAGE. SUCH a crescendo, in every way!!!
I know it’s been said already but OH MY GODS that last panel is amazing
Because no one else has,
alt text: ask me how long that last panel took to draw. but don’t. because I’ll cry
This page’s image source: close
Wait, I’m not enough of an artist, what was misleading about the thumbnail?
Damn this is so beautiful!!
YAS NATURE QUEEN!
There is something so satisfying in seeing Alinua pull a mountain apart, like dang. That is some cool stuff, and all it took was a slight meltdown!

holy shit

that panel is a georgeous work of art

Praise the Tree!!
oh my god that’s gorgeous
We have cracked the mountain. There will be no environmental repercussions for this action.
@SarissaTeiflingDruid
Thanks!

I am continually blow away by the quality of both your art and story-telling. This webcomic is one of the little highlights of my day.
SLAY

YES ALINUA! SHOW THEM THE POWER OF LIFE AND FRIENDSHIP! THE POWER TO MOVE MOUNTAINS, THAT IS, TO MOVE THEM INTO NO LONGER EXISTING,
Jesus Christ, dat last panel though… I mean, look at it! Its magnificent. The colours, the way the prison inside contrasts the tree, and their glow contrasting the mountain and rain. I will NEVER EVER NOT be awed by the magical talent of Red to conjure such breathtaking art.
Moses.
I’m pretty the thumbnail thing is referring to the chapter image.
Zuurith: We of the mountain are rooted deep in the stone, Tynan. I do not bend, and I will not yield.
Tynan: Then shatter.
Alinua: *unmountains the mountain city god*
MOUNTAIN: CRACKED (physically)
ALINUA: ALSO CRACKED (strong)
@Evil Tree i’m not so sure that the Collector is so tuned into world events. it seems to me more that what she knows would be general but detailed historical and geographical knowledge thanks to decades or centuries of wandering. she might have even known Zuurith from it’s early days. but as long as she has Vash, it seems that she would be single-mindedly focused on her research. unless she can sense Alinua’s magic herself, i doubt that anything will deterr her from her current task
I’m back, and what a chapter to return to!
ngl i was kinda expecting her to just finish growing it and go:
“done, now gimme a torch”
“what.”
“imma burn this tree down”
*angry life and falst noises*
“what, do you have any better ideas”
Also, I don’t think I’ll be able to follow this terraforming guide.

@average aurora enjoyer: Can I just say, I love your username and avatar.
Okay, no amount of Flex Tape is going to fix that mountain.
Hey
If anyone is resading on the phone long press the page and your browser shows you the alt text
could you imagine if it was Falst or Kendal that that split open the tree instead of Alinua?
I want to see a show of strength on that level from falst because it would be very cool.
however I know he isn’t actually that strong ;-;
*hug*
‘Big Tree’ is rapidly becoming Alinua’s signature move at towns they visit.
And aren’t we all glad now that Alinua wasn’t available for the Void Dragon to inhabit? My goodness, just *imagine* the chaos that would be unleashed!
Was that last panel a *deliberate* DBZ Abridged reference? Either way, glorious!
@Setras
I don’t see how that’s a reference… please enlighten me?
RED! That last panel is bad ass!
hey this looks like a way epicer version of when she tears the sentinel in half, back at the start!
Well Red, they didn’t even ask about how long it took, and you answered it anyway on OSPod episode 44. Three days. It took you three days, which is dedication.
And this, kids, is why Grass type is super effective against Rock type.
THAT IS SO COOL HOLY SH-
I’d really, REALLY like to see the layers for that last pannel…
There you go Red, a crack that isn’t bad.
