don’t you just hate it when the guy you’re making an example of just doesn’t have the appropriately hopeless attitude about it? total mood-killer

He’s thrown to the ground,
but refuses to lose hope!
…Tree’s growing nicely.
(Bonus)
And he will, you know
with the power of friendship
or something like that.
Meanwhile tree go brrrrrr
when Tynan’s angry, his speech bubble kinda looks like a cloud with a lightning bolt which is a pretty neat detail
The noive of him, not being afraid. Also, I like the ambiguity of the alt text.
Tynan the storm-lord rages, that Kendall
Dares to think that he could win;
With a roaring blast of sound, the towering
Green tree finishes the break in!
oak-kkkkkrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr
Goodbye mountain, I guess.
Is anyone else getting the ads on the bottom of the screen? I thought that they were supposed to be on the top of the screen. Probably depends on whether you’re on computer or phone.
I don’t get ads at all ?
You know…I love that Kendall is just all business. He’s not trying to convince Tynan to change his ways cause he already knows that won’t work, and he’s not pleading or groveling. He’s fighting because that’s the only thing he can do in this situation.
Tynan is digging HIMSELF into a hole by goading his apponant into a word battle because he’s so shallow that’s the only way he can get his kicks and feel strong and superior. And Kendall is straight up not playing along. Tynan’s cracking…and soon he himself will shatter under his own arrogance. And I cannot wait.
darn i feel ya man, aint it just awful when your perfectly good smack (ignoring the fact that your smack downe refuses to take this seriously) down gets ruined by humanitarian aid efforts
Kendall’s just trying to figure out his move timing
Just like I said yesterday
It’s the eye of the Tiger
It’s the cream of the fight
rising up to the challenge of our rival
Cool page! I’m curious about something.
What does everybody think Tynan sounds like? I like to imagine his voice has a hollow metallic vibration to it like how you taste copper during a storm.
INCREDIBLE. I cannot WAIT to see where this will go.
also: Kendel’s bones were GLOWING last page. I think he is actually becoming part of the weapon. Or maybe Vash is channeling through him? Either way, it’s EPIC.
also: Skystrike, I think it’s just plain old classy british, until he get’s mad, (third panel, for example) where it shifts to booming thunder, howling winds and humming electric undertone. (he is a storm after all.)
“Arrogant little splinter” is such a good insult, especially in this situation, when all Tynan sees in Kendal is a particularly annoying mortal that shouldn’t be able to hurt him significantly, one that he shouldn’t have much trouble with, like a splinter. However it seems like he’s beginning to be proven wrong.
@Skystrike, I think Tynan has a deepish voice but with very dramatic diction, sort of like he’s a middle schooler playing the main villain of a play and he’s WAY too into it. I also like Wood guardian’s idea of the storm in the back of his voice when he’s angry.
Tree go brrrrrrrr
@Skystrike
I think his voice has kind of like a crackling, electricity/lightning undertone, but when he gets angry you get thunder in there. You know, storm sounds.
I love how now that he’s angry he’s less, how do I put this… scripted. You know, changing what he’s saying halfway along, trying to stay in control. Like, “You really- you actually…”
For some reason, it makes him a lot less imposing. Takes the edge off the Pure Evil.
I love the tree. The art is beautiful. I mean, the art is always beautiful, but still.
@wood guardian
where do you see his bones glowing?
Magic Tree Goes BRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
Considering that Kendal came out alright the last time something pressed a limb hard against his throat (and considering his defiant look in panel five), I don’t think a boot pressed to his windpipe is going to bother him much.
wood guardian:
I think that Kendal still has intrinsic power from when Vash temporarily infused the blade’s future materials with his own soul and power, in order to defeat Tynan the first time. Since Vash imprinted upon the sword, similarly to his sentinels, but even more so; it stands to reason that some echo of his soul would linger within Kendal, which would grow and diversify over the centuries as the proto-soul interacted with the ambient soul energy around it. This would continue until Kendal became a sentient being in his own right, enough to act as a backup soul to Vash’s incarnation when his own soul got stolen. I think that when Kendal’s bones glowed, the portions of his soul located in the blade and the bones resonated with each other due to being made from the same material (starmetal), similarly to how both his jewel and his eyes were glowing. This is part of the Blade and Man as One theory; Kendal isn’t becoming the sword, he is the sword (at least according to my headcanon). (Apologies if I come off as arrogant or preachy.)
noice
TL;DR: Arrrrgggghhhhhh!!!
@Skystrike I believe that he talks in like a ‘yass queen’ voice. It works well with his often conversational tone (he’s also barely raised his voice, i think he likes the thrill that people’s fear gives him but it isn’t a full-on bloodlust), and I think it can be done without sounding too comedic (maybe tone down the accent at points).
@Skystrike i’ve been hearing him with a sort of Shen-like voice form Kung Fu Panda 2
God, it’s like Kendal doesn’t even know Tynan’s the main character.
@Skystrike I imagine him having a deep, sort of growling voice. Think Knuckles in the Sonic 2 trailer.
Silly Tynnan, Kendal doesn’t need to think, specially in combat. And, when he does, it is purely out of leisure
alt text: how rude, doesn’t he know who the star is?
To SarrissaTieflingDruid:
Last page, just for a moment in the last two panels. Considering how much that brief flare of power seems to have taken out of Kendal–note how neither his eyes or the sword’s jewel are glowing anymore (or if they are, it’s incredibly faint)–I’m not sure he’s going to be able to repeat that trick anytime soon.
Last strip: Why aren’t you taking this seriously?
This Strip: Stop taking this seriously!
Make up your mind already.
Tynan: There is no hope for you. … (cough) There is NO HOPE for you. … … STOP HAVING HOPE!
Red just keeps giving with the art this chapter, all the water effects, the glowing swirls and that lightning bolt cloud speech bubble in panel 3 fit so well. Take my ad revenue! Take all of it!
This is good. Tynan’s full attention is on Kendal, not the city, not the Ruunasers, and not Dainix. Kendal is working at the perfect distraction to give time for people to set to safety and the protags to setup their offensives.
Meanwhile, that massive tree will soon destroy the prison, but hopefully not everyone inside. I wonder how this tree might affect the city of Zuurith in the long run; if it’s permanent, the city will have to adapt around it, maybe grow into a different kind of city even if the prison can’t wholly be rebuilt.
Evil Tree:
If the current prison becomes unusable, I have a feeling that Zuurith will just have the other mountain converted into a new one; unless (and that’s got a big “if” attached to it) this experience shakes him so much that he decides to actually think about how his city could be run in a beneficial way, becoming less of a deity of his police force and more of a deity of his people.
The fight is just so damn beautiful! Red – your artwork just catches me by the throat. …Plus the story is wonderful and totally gripping [no…not a PUN!]. I love this so much!
Kendal can do this all day
I love the inherent homoeroticism of swordfighting
Because murder is sexy?
How crazy would it be if Kedal just died right now?
am i the only one getting an ad? is that a new thing?
i love the glowyness of this page! and all the pages recently tbh. i love how all the characters get fun textboxes customized to them, like tynan’s in the first panel being clouds. i like that. it’s cool.
on the last page, the arm you could see the bones of was his right arm…
@Matthew
You sound like Red right before she says something bad is gonna happen.
pls no floofy boi deaths’
@Skystrike I think I’ve mentioned before that I imagine he sounds like Aaravos from The Dragon Prince.
Tree goes BBBRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR
Well, Tynan, in one sense, Kendall hasn’t lost yet. In another sense, like an orphan, he’s already suffered the greatest possible loss.
In a word: he’s immune.
Tynan: How DARE you try to WIN!
Kendal:I’m a protagonist. it’s in my job description
that is time & date stamped I believe?
Congratulations,
Ari
I don’t know about a third act, but Tynan is definitely having a breakdown…
Wouldn’t he be a Sliver, though?
I picture his voice as filled with this sort of warmth as if it’s constantly laughing. But like not a good laugh, an evil chuckle deep in the back of your throat. Only right now it’s kind of different because right now he is very, very scared
