To be honest, I haven’t heard that stereotype yet. My usage of stereotype kinda implies a distaste for your statement which I do not possess but I occasionally research Jewish stereotypes and there are several academic related ones but I haven’t heard much about librarians. I assume your experience confirms this statement in your mind and frankly mine doesn’t argue but it is weird I haven’t found this one before
so i guess the other archivists are just going to hang out in the archive and take turns sustaining that barrier in shifts or something so that some of them get to eat or sleep while June goes out into the world. does she have a goal in mind, or is she just meant to stay out of danger until the Archive is secure? is there anywhere else she can go? there must be Paladin regional headquarters or something, considering an organisation this old and large
anyway those shields are cool, and i’m becoming more convinced that the Lady’s element is substance or creation or something, since her mages can create barriers and weapons. but could they be made of ‘soul energy’ or something? it would explain how the barriers resist environmental influences, since we know that the soul has that specific quality. in fact, i wonder if the Lady created souls in order to shield people from the Void Dragon’s influence? if souls resist all primordial influences, that might be the intended purpose
and if June is going to stay away from whatever chaos the Floof Squad kick up, who is she going to intereact with? perhaps she’ll fit into the proposed ‘Floof Squad B’ with Tess or Dainix or something, or maybe she’ll keep to herself and select minor characters in the refugee population like… Shrike? i feel like i keep suggesting that Shrike will return, but it won’t actually happen
@veggiesnake I was thinking of something along these lines too. L.D. is the antithesis in some way to V.D., so maybe she has the power of creation (counter to his entropy) or soul (literally the spark of conscience that prevented V.D. from possessing the first elemental magus in the first few “creation myth” chapters).
J.A.: Huh, I guess those rumours about the inmates growing pot via life magic were right after all.
If you look at the first panel in the background there’s lots of lights going up that hillside, and it’s not the prison as that’s what J.A. is facing in front of her. I reckon that’s the eastern slope the people of Zuurith are evacuating to; all those lights are torches they’re carrying.
So the barrier is in place and it looks to have some nice swirly patterns, though they can’t compete with the swirly pattens from Ali’s tree (RIP Red’s drawing hand).
Considering she’s heading away with the rest of the civilians and the gang are unlikely to stick around after fighting Tynan, even if they save the city they’re complicit in the destruction of the prison, I doubt they’ll meet up again. At least not immediately.
Prediction for next week: Scene change to Alinua and Falst as she completes the prison’s destruction to the dismay of a very angry Arenamaster. Maybe have Life speak to Alinua afterwards in a “See? You could do it by yourself” kind of way.
So there is actually a book with a main character that is named Broccoli Buche who is all about making friends. I know this is probably not an Intentional reference but I shut up the voice in my head that asks: “But what if it is?”
So in panel 5, I can see an orange glow emanating from the arena, and I doubt it’s the few torches around the inner ring. Since the fighting area is connected to the prison, it likely doesn’t have an exit to the city proper, or at least not one that isn’t heavily fortified. This combination of circumstances makes me wonder if Dainix is burning his way out of there (or Tahraim if he hasn’t left yet; Dainix is probably still hesitant to use his soulfire unless it’s absolutely necessary). If he is, then it probably explains why is hasn’t been helping Falst and Alinua; he’s busy trying to melt through solid stone and/or metal.
No, June! Go right up to the nice, pretty tree! There are some potential friends there who could really use your common sense! You can be travel buddies!
At some point in the future Alinua is going to need to use her Life magic to solve a problem in a way that doesn’t involve growing a massive tree, and Red’s going to make the alternate text something like:
“what, but aren’t trees the solution to every problem, tho?”
Anyways, I have a feeling that a certain Elemental Magus’ “master plan” is going to cause snow to pile up, blocking a specific easterly direction and forcing poor old June here to have to get very close to “whatever that is.”
good june, stay away from the plant volcano.
i’ve stumbled into a bit of paradox. if june goes to the plant volcano, then maybe after an interaction with the protaganists her common sense and self preservation will rub off on them. on the other hand, going to the plant volcano for a closer look is the opposite of common sense and self preservation, so the best way for her demostrate it is to not go to the plant volcano, but then they won’t encounter her, so she wouldn’t be demostrating anything, but if she goes then she’s not displaying common sense or self preservation, but . . .
i’ve been going in circles
Very wise, young Archivist! Plants and weeds can seriously damage documents, especially if they are allowed to grow inside document storage areas! (<- this has happened)
That tree is damn shiny and nice from a distance, though…!
@Steve, Lord of Darkness i hadn’t thought of that. what if Erin’s spell also freezes he water on the ground to ice, rendering steep slopes impassable? he’d effectively trap the refugees inside the city except through a ground level gate, presumably the only one of which Tynan is currently cutting off with a twister
I just realized something: if Erin could see that barrier, he’d flip his sh*t! (Unless he already knows that the paladins can perform a unique type of magic, in which case he’d probably go back to wondering where exactly that magic comes from. In his eyes, if this is the case, the most likely scenario is that the deity he thinks the paladins constructed gives it to all their followers.)
wait I caught up? holy hell! I only really got into this a day ago! what did I do with myself.
anyway All Praise, all bow. this is a FUN story of fun.
its fun that Storm God is like im more on his side then evil despot god? but that can hopefully be solved Spartacus but better style and they should just slave upraising, take over the city and name it something else so a new godling gets formed. one that isn’t super weak Sause petty Stalin wannabe tyrant.
Oh that’s the light dragon’s soul, isnt it.
No you forgot Red is Jewish, they love librarians for a reason.
To be honest, I haven’t heard that stereotype yet. Light Dragon is here.
Tree is making good progress.
But let’s stay away.
TWO June pages? This is great content right here.
(And so is the rest of the comic but I just like June a lot)
The junior archivist departs,
Holy orders to obey.
She sees the glow Alinua casts,
Says “let’s stay far away”.
so i guess the other archivists are just going to hang out in the archive and take turns sustaining that barrier in shifts or something so that some of them get to eat or sleep while June goes out into the world. does she have a goal in mind, or is she just meant to stay out of danger until the Archive is secure? is there anywhere else she can go? there must be Paladin regional headquarters or something, considering an organisation this old and large

the tree is gorgeous omg
Light??????? Dragon?????????
shields still holding at roughly 70 percent
I was going to say I wish there was a like button but than I realised that would be redundant, I like every page
TL;DR: let there be light, and let’s not hug trees.
And by “stay away” she is going to end up getting right up there, in the middle of it and winding herself into the middle of it all.
Dang it, why’d I have to go and get all caught up in a day.

Smart play is to stay away from the plot beacon.
Sorry Junior Archivist, the plot shall haunt your steps in ways you can’t expect.
It’s nice to see that June has the rare ability called common sense. The vault is in good hands.

Is that…. Someone with…. Common sense? Self preservation? The idea to avoid danger? NO WAY
RRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR

Well shucks, posting on my birthday when I started to binge this last night. I’m honored
Danger Broccoli! XD
Very wise, young Archivist! Plants and weeds can seriously damage documents, especially if they are allowed to grow inside document storage areas! (<- this has happened)
That tree is damn shiny and nice from a distance, though…!
Giant broccoli *wheezes from laughing*
All hail the GIANT BROCCOLI FRIEND!
@Steve, Lord of Darkness
tbf trees do kinda be solving a lot of problems for life mages
If one wants to find different solutions to problems than to use trees, one would have to branch out.
@Steve, Lord of Darkness i hadn’t thought of that. what if Erin’s spell also freezes he water on the ground to ice, rendering steep slopes impassable? he’d effectively trap the refugees inside the city except through a ground level gate, presumably the only one of which Tynan is currently cutting off with a twister
oh my god there’s two of them
Hellohaiku and goodbyeballad
What do y’all think of each other
I just realized something: if Erin could see that barrier, he’d flip his sh*t! It’s a giant broccoli… MAYBE IT’S FRIENDLY!!!
wait I caught up? holy hell! I only really got into this a day ago! what did I do with myself.

This shit is *good*
All hail the the queen of Brocorlietopia
Is giant broccoli as friendly as giant mushrooms?
