couldn’t he also use wind magic to force pieces of the storm away from eachother? shatter the storm with a tornado or someting to that affect. when vash defeated the storm in the first place, it did run away in little pieces.

And I think his idea might just work.
Love how, if you have just one type of magic, it becomes like a go-to club, but if you’re the Elemental Mage, magic becomes more of an art.

Sorry Tess, as much as we love scene changing to you and your bro and your “punch the problem” theme, it took a powerful city god with starmetal power to beat him last time. That lightning might not be much but it’s doing more than attacking Big T’s incarnation; maybe it’ll stack with Erin and Dainix’s attacks.
Yeah, stone magic is a no-no, especially with a certain elf doing aggressive renovation on the prison. Fire is also probably out of the question, for Erin at least; most of it would probably dissipate before reaching the body of the storm. But freezing the storm, particularly the part outside Zuurith right now, woud take away a lot of the water.
I see Tynan being defeated by multiple factors: Erin freezing a large chunk of the storm; Tess attacking it further in it’s weakened state; Dainix delivering the definitive blow with soulfire; and Kendal, maybe a newly formed Zuurith too, forcing Tynan to swear another vow of non-interference with the sword.
Tess wanting to punch Tynan makes me happy and I cannot explain why. It just does.
I swear to god if he is taking the time to write all these thoughts in his journal…

Appropriately enough, it’s bloody snowing here today. Whereas three days I ago, I was running around in a t-shirt.
Huh. So on page 2 or 3 of this chapter, I mentioned that one or both of the Ruunasers might try severing Tynan’s connection to the rest of his storm with interfering lightning magic; it seems I predicted correctly. Including the part where it turned out to not be effective. (Sorry, Tess…)
It’s a good thing Erin’s casting power is quite high, or else his plans would be even more futile.

Considering the fact that there’s a tornado (and huh, I actually called it that Tynan’d spawn one), and tornadic supercells tend to also generate large hail, it probably already is hailing somewhere in Zuurith.
Though it is admittedly possible that Erin’s interference could make the situation worse if that’s the case. Then again, it could make things better–weather systems are finicky like that. I suppose it’ll depend on how much of Tynan’s consciousness remains in the rest of his storm, and how aware of and able to manipulate it he is when incarnated.
(Genius loci characters are fun like that)

Sorry to burst your bubble Erin but freezing the storm would either create hail to a scale never seen before, or turn this devastating storm into a devastating snowstorm. And in the chaos of everyone trying to leave, massive hunks of hail or snow that make it impossible to see won’t help.
I hope Erin means a more metaphorical kind of freezing, because I don’t think a blizzard is going to be that much better.

i was going to make a comment on the type advantage chart but then i realized that while electric does resist electric, electric is super effective against both water and flying. oh well.

I love that Tess’ response to a storm throwing lightning at her is to throw lightning right back.
Turn the rain to snow. Not only does it come down slower, it also doesn’t go anywhere once it lands. Even better, nobody’s dying, nobody’s panicking. Some people might even start having fun. Which is kryptonite to Tynan. (1 inch of rain has as much water as 10 inches of snow, but, you don’t need very much rain to produce a flood in a single drainage area if it is large enough and it’s raining fast enough. So I’m not too worried about everything being buried under 10 feet of snow, since 10 inches of rain isn’t necessary.)

Here’s the thing. I don’t think Erin can freeze the entire storm in 1 go. But if you freeze a chunk of moisture out of a cloud, you just tore it away from the cloud. If you do it right, you could be yanking out large ice boulders from the cloud (and ice is a lot denser than cloud, so that’s a huge chunk of cloud) and tossing them away from the city, slowly ripping the storm apart.
I don’t know how long it would take for a storm god to notice his special cloud being slowly shredded like that, but I bet it would get his attention pretty fast. Now how his sister keeps him *alive* after that is a different question.

@ImuyanMangoCat well, Tess WAS hit by a bolt of magical energy as a child, which had a transformative influence on her life going forward, including a separation between herself and Erin. AND their parents were diplomatically significant. AND Tess spent her introduction to this comic searching for Erin in a vast wasteland.

Not only that but they do share some common character traits; both are headstrong and very expressive, both care deeply about their friends, although Tess is by far the stronger physically out of the two and it shows in her tendency to punch her way out of rough situations.

Erin simply isn’t creative enough! (or he doesn’t have the power) with earth magic he could simply create drain wells all around the city with lightning rods attached! we don’t really have enough information about elemental magic for me to know if this could be done.
I’m not sure he’s especially powerful at each element, although I imagine the limits of his raw power will become clear soon.
