Damn pyromancers and their inconvenient ability to infuse even something as simple and flammable as a stick with some high-powered, volatile anger-flame to shape a new blade out of thin air, laws of thermodynamics be damned.
The cracks converging and getting larger in that one spot over Dainix’s heart is a nice (heartbreaking?) detail. Too bad it just makes me wonder how much fire can be hugged out.
Luckily for our Vessel, muscle memory seems to be completely intact from all the ass-whuppins that got dished out in the past. Also lucky for our burny-friend, he doesn’t seem to like fighting nearly as much.
Kendal: … Well, it’s starting to rain. Rain cancels arena matches doesn’t it? …. No? … Eh, worth a shot.
Oh no, I’ve just seen Dainix’s necklace. Losing the ponytail tie is forgivable, it’s made this fight and the transformation so much more dynamic, but that necklace is the centrepiece of his shirtless aesthetic. He mustn’t lose it!
Dainix breaks elephant girl’s weapon but the fight probably continued and now Kendal breaks Dainix’s weapon but the fight keeps going. Then again the first was because A.M. said so, now it seems like Dainix is succumbing to the demon and won’t listen to anything.
So with Zuurith’s intervention unlikely and Dainix unwilling, or unable, to stop, Kendal’s strategy now is keep dodging until he burns himself out. Also has the benefit of providing minimal enjoyment from the arena spectators.
Then again I haven’t seen any cheering from the crowd since Kendal spoke to Zuurith; are they concerned about the danger of Dainix too, or maybe the presence of incarnated Zuurith has them wary?
Next week’s prediction: A bit more fighting before any big reveals and/or gang reunions; shame to waste such good fighting effects and flow. Maybe Zuurith will clue into how much a threat Dainix is to the citizens and stop the match himself. Maybe Caliban in their guard disguise blocks Alinua and Falst from accessing the arena. Maybe the Junior Archivist sees them running to the arena and gets curious.
Prediction: Zuurith will say something that makes Kendal go “I’m not Vash.” Then Tynan will appear and say something like: “How unfortunate for you then, only Vash could defeat me. Now Tynan Shadow of Thunder will rain death upon you.”
It appears Kendal disarmed Dainix, but it does not mean he is harmless, far from it.
PS: I am really curious how everyone is reacting in the audience to Dainix bursting with fire, we know he is a popular gladiator as earlier he was told he was drawing in a crowd, so surely someone has to notice how he has a completely different demeanor, and never used fire magic before, but now is actively exploding with it.
The middle three panels made me laugh out loud. Kendal my boy, that’s not how this works. Dainix is getting so done with this, though that might be related to the Demon too.
I’m continually surprised by how resilient that bandage over his eye is given that it seems to be cloth and the entire dude is going up in flames, especially his other eye… How long do you guys think it will be until we get a look-see at his other eye?
Well, that stick is officially the first thing to start burning due to touching a man who is actively on fire. I suspect the bandage is next. Makes me wonder what’s underneath: a fire great rune, as someone suggested a couple weeks ago; a hollow eye socket, as would be expected, now filling with fire; a working eye with some abnormality, a la Wrath from Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood; or arguably the creepiest option, perhaps featureless smooth skin, with no socket at all?
Man, Kendal just got his clothes fixed a sef (week) ago! He might be fire resistant, but his clothes aren’t!
The Arenamaster wanted a fight that both parties would take seriously, because Dainix was embarrassing him. What he got is a fight that Dainix is taking seriously, but Kendal is not. So basically exactly what he’d been getting the whole time, just in reverse.
Kendal and Alliuna shipper and Erin x Falst shipper
Dainix, just get a therapist.
Alinua is team mom, talk to her
Falst has trust issues, he’s the expert
However, don’t go to Erin,
He will dissect you physically and emotionally
the comments today made me literally laugh out loud.
I got some weird looks for that one.
Thanks for making my day, everyone.
Also, I clicked the random button and arrived at the one where dainix talked about the demon he’s hunting. (https://comicaurora.com/aurora/1-13-23/)
oof.
but also made a lot of things clearer.
To be fair, there’s a few possible explanations, for this. It could be something that rubbed off on him from Vash, given that the latter (based on what we’ve seen) rarely lost his cool in a fight. It could be he’s shoved aside everything that’s not related to staying alive and de-escalating the situation, and he’ll have his mental breakdown later. Or it could be that he’s panicking internally but just not letting it show on his face, which based on some of the more recent panels is my guess.
To what-nt:
It certainly is an interesting design choice, isn’t it? Because now that you mention it…
To Goldfinch:
Probably not long now. If you look at those middle two panels you can see that the bandage is already starting to catch. The inner layers have probably burned away by now, or are close to it.
To TheUnknownGame:
Going by the sketch page, probably a ball of flame where his eye should be. Which would explain both why he never takes the bandage off, and why said bandage hasn’t burned away yet–it’s probably fire-resistant fabric.
With regards to the theories on what’s up under the cloth over Dainix’s right eye, I’m going to second the people who said that it’s the Fire great rune. My thoughts is that he’s got the same primordial deal as Alinua, and since she has the Life rune, he would theoretically have one as well.
To Skye:
I’m not sure that’s the bandage beginning to catch so much as embers floating in front of it, then being amplified by another surge of fire magic
Congrats to TheUnknownGame, The Aceassin, and Hiii for guessing correctly on the latest Futurivia. There won’t be any kind of trivia today, for I have work to do.
@What-nt: It is probably symbolic in some way, but it also brings to mind the fact that having a literal inner flame burning you from the inside out is probably really painful.
@Gorinich: Nah, no way. Looks like a perfectly normal fire mage to me/s.
I don’t know…the positioning, particularly of the cluster of three streaky ones, looks too deliberate to be loose embers–they’re right where Dainix’s eye socket would be, and actually appear to be outlining it through gaps in the bandages. And if you look at the final panel, that ‘eye’ is definitely beginning to flare up.
@TheUnknownGame: I’ve actually met two people with smooth flesh where one eye would normally be and no visible socket! I think it’s just a thing that happens. Personally, my bet’s on either firey eye or fire rune.
Is it just me, or does the glow that’s starting to come from Dainix’s right eye look kind of like the great rune for Fire? I’ve been thinking it might be there, since there’s no evidence of it anywhere else, and it would explain the wrapping… though it could also just be a wound from the last time he blew up.
Noo Dainix, listen to him
oooh, pretty
Kendal…bud you are being way to nonchalant about the man before you literally coming apart like an egg in a micowave.
“Look. We can stop now.”
Dainix: “Hm. How about no.”
A swing and a miss.
Ah dang, those last two panels are so cool!
“bossfight”? watch out, Kendal…
sleep schedule has officially downgraded to the point where I can be one of the first to post comments XD
I love how everyone’s getting surprised by kendal snapping spears like mildly inconvenient toothpicks.
Not cool, Dainix. Not cool at all!
i really genuinely love the effects on this page omg like the cracks and the fire? MMMMMMMM
This page’s image source: stop
Did anyone notice that in panel 6 dainix’s ignan marking looks like a tear?
Nvm it’s panel 5
this girl is on fireeeee
Damn pyromancers and their inconvenient ability to infuse even something as simple and flammable as a stick with some high-powered, volatile anger-flame to shape a new blade out of thin air, laws of thermodynamics be damned.
Damn, Dainix in Panels 5-7 is so hot in so many ways

Holy shit Dainix are you actually okay?
Ahhh, yes, reminds me of the old saying…
Give a man a fire and he’ll be warm for a day. Set a man on fire and he’ll be warm for the rest of his life.
Damn! The DYNAMIC POSES in this page! It’s awsome!
TL;DR: *Snaps spear* look we can stop fighting now!
Fiery boi: NEVER….
Prediction: Zuurith will say something that makes Kendal go “I’m not Vash.” Then Tynan will appear and say something like: “How unfortunate for you then, only Vash could defeat me. Now Tynan Shadow of Thunder will rain death upon you.”
I wouldn’t be surprised if this fight ended with them kissing.
Kendal: “Look. We can stop now.”
Dainix: “you jerk THAT WAS MY FAVORITE SPEAR”
Can’t wait for Alinua and Falst to arrive and immediately attack Dainix, while Kendal is yelling at them to stop.
@youngstormlord Cause he’s on fire? Eh? Eh?
fire so pretty
It appears Kendal disarmed Dainix, but it does not mean he is harmless, far from it.

Yesterday I was thinking about how cool it would be if Kendal snapped the spear in half… today I didn’t have to use the “if”
Okay now I really start to worry about Dainix.
I would say that *every* problem can be solved with more fire…
Enough fire, and there’s no one left around to have problems.
Oh no it started raining, I wonder what will happen next week…

If you can’t solve a problem with more fire, you haven’t used enough.
(Note: “Solve” in this context means “replace the problem with a fire, which may itself be a problem”.)
alt text: nice try bud, but i’ve waited too long to choreograph this bossfight

ooh this is Boiling HOT
i’m ready to watch kendal beat up a lightning bolt, a demon, and the emperor of rome within the space of one chapter
Is anyone thinking that if there are going to be more primordial vessels, Dainix is the one for fire?
Dainix, just get a therapist.
Alinua is team mom, talk to her
Falst has trust issues, he’s the expert
However, don’t go to Erin,
He will dissect you physically and emotionally
I think Dainix might be suffering from fire corruption.

Epic fight: *is happening*
My brain: oooOOooooohh fiiire coool
Dainix: “Talky Man broke Dainix stick.
…..
…..
TALKY MAN BROKE DAINIX STICK!”

“I’ve waited too long to choreograph this bossfight.”
But which one of them is the boss? ?
To Jessica:
I think neither, the real boss is Tynan, they just don’t know it yet.
Wow I’ve Just finished binging this from start to finish and this is genuinly amazing.

Dainix can make his weapon a magical weapon that seals fire damage to it’s opponent. That’s interesting. What is he?
