And something unrelated.
I’m switching names from Indigo Toxin to ImuyanMangoCat. For 2 reasons
1. As mentioned Indigo is my OC and not a persona, so I’m switching to make it more appropriate.
2. ImuyanMagoCat is my Deviant Art name, so if anyone wants to see my art go and look that up.
And ImuyanMangoCat is kinda long so just call me Mango or MangoCat if you ever try reply to one of my future questions or something.
And could someone tell me if that’s an arm or a leg in the last panel, I can’t tell
Maybe the person with a good sense of smell is a ferin, yeah definitely a ferin. And maybe a Dog/Wolf ferin to contrast how Falst is a Lion ferin.
Also: Falst falling over is mildly amusing.
Ok, I just adore Tess and how she interacts with the team so far. And Falst’s sarcastic humor! I can’t even with these panels! Tess’s antidote about Erin is just too cute and entirely in character. I am so on-board with them being siblings, and they can’t find each other fast enough.
I am pretty worried about Shrike’s Nose-Friend (I’m nicknaming them “Stinky” until we have a name). Falst’s advice is working so far, but I don’t think it will work against pure sense of smell.
I think the conflict here will be who finds our trio first. If Erin can find them, it would be much harder to capture everyone without a diplomatic incident, or at the very least the Floof Squad will have him to vouch for them. But if Stinky finds them first, it will be much harder for Erin to convince the government to un-capture everyone.
Thanks to panel 5, I will now be referring to the hunters as Shrike’s Boys/Bois. You cannot stop me.
Falst, I bigged you up as the voice of reason last page and then you fall flat on your face. Well, his sensibility for himself is a bit shaky but at least his reasoning for the group as a whole is sound.
Ok, it seems Falst’s strategy is working, that’s good. All they need now is to meet up with Erin before Shrike’s boys find them and things should go smoothly on this side of the gang. And pave the way for funny Tess/Erin interactions.
That figure Shrike is talking to might be a problem though. I’m assuming they’re a Ferin, possibly the same on who made the sleep pellets, though what exactly can they use to track their scent? I don’t think they have a piece of their clothing.
Next week’s prediction: Either a closeup of who Shrike was talking to or a scene change to the prison duo after Dainix explained the situation to Kendal. I’m quietly hopeful the crime trio will come out all right since the chapter title page implies Kendal, Dainix and Tynan as the main sources of drama. I see it going like so: They and Erin meetup and, by one means or another, get back into the embassy; Tess explains the storm cloud’s weird movements to Erin; Erin figures out the clouds identity; just as Tynan announces himself in the arena.
I just realized Falst is barefoot. I’ve walked bare footed on a road before, it hurts like helheim.
Well I guess it depends on the road, if it’s smooth or covered in pebbles or whatever. But if it’s covered in tiny sharp stones then Falst is probably regretting rejecting that piggy back ride.
I’m m not concerned for Tess, her feet are made of metal she’s fine.
Okay, so most of us knew that Tess is somehow related to Erin by now, but do Alinua and Falst? Was it explained off-screen? Are they too focused on the moment to listen to that seemingly minor anecdote? FIND OUT NEXT TIME ON-
@Evil Tree my guess is that Falst still has some of that sleeping powder on his clothes or something, and whoever Shrike’s about to hire will be able to smell it just like how Falst smelled it when Tess was being chased
@SkinnerTBD don’t worry, comments always take a bit to post
Unrelated to the current page, but I have a theory. There was some kind of sentience in Vash’s sword (possibly imbued by Tahraim) and when Vash died that soul took over the body. It would explain how Kendal got that body, why he has some of Vash’s memories, why he can hear Vash better when he draws the sword, and why that forest spirit called him “both blade and man”
“Erin used to do that all the time. Don’t help me, I’ll pass out on my own!”
That’s it, Tess is DEFINITELY his sister. Not cousin, not vague relative. Sister. And probably ready to tell the gamg all of Erin’s most embarrassing moments.
yeah, probably another ferin.
I hope it’ll be like a species solidarity thing where unnamed ferin is like ‘this is another one of me. shrike, you’re an idiot, I’m not helping you.’
But based on what we’ve seen so far, shrike seems too manipulative to let a little thing like that mess up her plans.
Slightly more than that; it took reading the comments a few pages ago to jog my memory, but in his message spell, he called her Tess Ruunaser! So they’re some sort of relatives! (Unless we’ve all been guessing wrong and its just a very common last name.)
I love Tess’s implied relationship with Erin. I want to see them interact so stinking bad but I have to wait. However, I can entertain myself by imaging them being siblings together somewhere. My latest head canon is that Tess used to carry Erin around on her back like she did with Falst after he spent all night studying and passed out. He got so annoyed with her doing this that he started sneaking coffee from the kitchen so he could stay awake without crashing. And thus, his coffee addiction began.
Also, have you guys thought about whether or not Tess was originally looking for Erin because the storm disappeared? We know from that chapter that she went into the storm almost immediately after it disappeared and got tangled up with a dragon. Heck, she was in Windscrest, right by the storm. My thought is that she was either checking on Erin or waiting in Windscrest for his return from his expedition when the storm vanished. Worried for him, she went into the wasteland to try and find him, but got distracted by the dragon. There, she witnessed Erin’s first possession blurb, and after the dragon flew off probably continued looking for him, more concerned than before. However, she didn’t find him- likely because the Floof gang picked him up first. I wonder what Tess suspects was the result of that blast, or even how soon Erin will tell her he’s being possessed. Maybe he won’t and she’ll be in for a nasty surprise the next time Voidy rears his head. Oh, the angst that could come from that!
“I love being hunted for sport.” Despite us knowing about Falst, I was still shook by this raw response.
Anyways, Shike’s back, and seems…calm. And she has a new friend! It seems pretty obvious they’re a Ferin, and seeing as we probably won’t get an answer to Wednesday’s Futurivia for a while, let’s try and figure out… What kind of Ferin is Shrike’s “sniffer”?
A: Canine (Dog, Wolf, coyote, et cetera)
B: Pig
C: Snake
D: Bear (they actually have a great sense of smell)
Gift Horse: They’re that elephant Ferin from the scream pit (good thinking, NAF)
Has the Floof Squad learned of Tess and Erin’s relationship yet? Are they too busy avoiding detection that they failed to detect Tess’ subtle jab at Erin? Did a young Erin have a tendency to work himself to exhaustion and then refuse assistance? Who is Shrike talking too? Is this person another bounty hunter or is it the general manager of the local Zim Morton’s coffee house branch, who most certainly could track the fugitives down through gossip alone?

Evil Tree:
I don’t think it’s the same one; they were wearing different clothes, and there would be no point keeping them in secrecy considering we’ve already seen them. This is most likely someone new, and I’m guessing either A, C, or D for Humanoid Clay’s Futurivia (leaning towards D; Shrike has a tendency to employ strong individuals, and I’d say a bear ferin would definitely classify as strong).
I love Shrike’s eye color, it’s such a pretty shade of teal.
Man, if Tess isnt his older sister I’m going to be ticked. I love the subtle jab, and overworking himself and then not accepting any kind of help is definitely something Erin would do, too. “Nobody help me, I’ll pass out on my own!” is also just such a hilarious line XD
NAF:
I don’t think Stinky is the elephant ferin. Since she was in the scream pit, I feel it’s safe to assume that she’s a prisoner. If so, I think the way that Shrike would talk to her would be *very* different.
BTW gonna hop on the “Tess is Erin’s sister” train. But I’m surprised more people aren’t speculating about Erin’s fainting fits. It’s entirely possible he just overworked himself, but maybe it had something to do with his knowledge that the Soulshaper Monks are *discreet*? Now I’m wondering if any forms of elemental corruption would cause fainting fits, and he needed them to teach him how to expel it. Or maybe it’s something more mundane, and he has some sort of disability or chronic illness that we haven’t heard about because he has the proper medication/supports now.
@Hermit Thrush
That’s a great theory! I almost forgot about Erin’s description of the Soulshaper Monks.
The more we learn about Erin, the more curious I am about his past. He was the one to start the conversation about not owning your parents (chapter 11). In his conversation with the Void Dragon in chapter 13, VD said that Erin “always let others suffer for your convenience” and implied that it had something to do with his childhood. Something Erin at least felt pretty helpless about. And add to that the fact that, if Erin and Tess are siblings (which I also believe whole heartedly; I love sibling interactions!), they both look wildly different, which makes me wonder how blood-related they are.
After last chapter’s hint to Falst’s past, I am now dying for some backstories to be revealed.
I’m hopeful the crime gang can remain on the run overnight with Falst’s guidance, but being hunted by scent is going to throw a wrench in it. Maybe spend generously on Fantasy Perfume to confuse matters?
Also, Shrike continues to have excellent style, which is a wonderful thing in an antagonist.
Justinian:
It actually has been proposed before, by me at least if not others as well; for my take on the theory, check my non-reply comment on this page: https://comicaurora.com/aurora/1-12-10/
(Oh, how I miss the reply function, and comments being visible right after you post them… a bygone era, unfortunately.)
Okay, three things: first of all I think Tess’s comment about “Erin doing that kind of thing all the time.” Alludes to them either being siblings, or at the very least were rather close growing up. Like cousins or something.
Second: @humanoid clay D, or maybe A
And third: oh shoot…..I’m all caught up. And right before our road trip. XD
Does anyone else have nicknames for minor characters? I’ve called Shrike “Helene” in my head several times. (It’s an “Ember in the Ashes reference, btw)
“Haha, got your nose!” – Shrike, next panel
Tess’s hair looks extra floofy in the 3rd panel.
And something unrelated.

What else could they be?
Erin? She know Erin?!
Falst is SO done with this city and honestly. understandable
Next page: Shrike does the “got your nose!” thing and runs away
Ok, I just adore Tess and how she interacts with the team so far. And Falst’s sarcastic humor! I can’t even with these panels! Tess’s antidote about Erin is just too cute and entirely in character. I am so on-board with them being siblings, and they can’t find each other fast enough.

I love Tess’s thoroughly unimpressed look in the first panel.
Omer1698- They’re related. Earlier, when Erin sent the message borb, he called her Tess Ruunaser.
Ohmygod, I cannot express how much I love tess’ dynamic with them!
Does aurora have enough material yet to fit into a 24 episode anime season?
There’s no time to unpack panel 4!
Also the Arena in the background is very ominous.
Thanks to panel 5, I will now be referring to the hunters as Shrike’s Boys/Bois. You cannot stop me.

Send a ferin to capture a ferin. What could possibly go wrong?
Mebe
16 episode anime for sure.
she knows him so much they have the same las name.
She knows him so much they have the same last name.
Okay, I give up. Three tries is enough.
Tess’ unimpressed face in the first pannel is everything

Also, Erin, where the eff are you, boy? We’re waiting for you.

TL;DR: time to get lost, we’ll be absolutely fine… *faints*
Meanwhile, a certain bounty hunter has called in assistance.
. Uh oh.
“Erin used to do that all the time. Don’t help me, I’ll pass out on my own!”
That’s it, Tess is DEFINITELY his sister. Not cousin, not vague relative. Sister. And probably ready to tell the gamg all of Erin’s most embarrassing moments.

I just started this comic a week ago, and I have binge read it to current.. I love it so much! I found it from Reds Trope Talk videos. 🙂
I’ve got bets on the Elephant Shifter from Dainix’s death match!!

kinda looks like Elsa imma be real here
JUST REALIZED SOMETHING! That person on the 3rd panel that’s cropped out, the one who’s robs are only visible. Those robes look like the J.A.s robes
dose this look suspisisly like the main cast (image from a trope talk)
@mangocat I believe it‘s an arm
I just realized Tess is wearing the Academy’s robes, so she was probably classmates with Erin
Is she related to Rocket the raccoon by any chance?
Does anyone else have nicknames for minor characters? I’ve called Shrike “Helene” in my head several times. (It’s an “Ember in the Ashes reference, btw)
Shrike cosplayers could probably make it work if they put the bangs in the middle, between their eyes.
