If the Lady can talk to her followers…
And the Junior Archivist has “light powers”…
Erin really dodged a bullet here with Ali not mentioning he’s the magus…
Erin always gets a borb to the face when he’s too distracted to notice.
So, the Junior Archivist has some light powers that allow her to … open windows. I guess she is a junior archivist, maybe the higher powers are for more senior and/or frontline Paladins. Though I wonder how “sorry” she is at letting the borb hit Erin without warning since he was just questioning L.D.’s existence again.
While this does interrupt Erin’s good research maybe it’s for the better; the longer he stays in Zuurith, especially Paladin HQ, the greater the chance he’ll be discovered. Hopefully what he’s learnt here will be enough; he already seems to have come to the conclusion L.D. wasn’t a delusion created god. Combine that with V.D.’s talk of his Other and Erin’s opinions on L.D. could do a 180.
I love how you can tell that’s Alinua speaking; the hesitancy and unfamiliarity with wind magic messages harkens back to the end of chapter 12. This also means that Tess probably knows they’re affiliated with Erin, the person she’s looking for.
Ohhhhhh I see what’s going on here. Also it appears that the junior archivist has the ability to open windows with her light powers? I wonder how that works?
Do you think maybe it’s earth magic? (Earth magic is shown as blue-ish) and sincee windows are made of glass and therefore sand, maybe add that to the the list of things earth mages can do when they get creative
@Indigo Toxin (replies aren’t working for me) That was NOT stone magic. Magic here seems colour coded, stone magic being grey. And her eyes glowed, (like Alinua’s a few pages ago when she was channeling Life) something that doesn’t happen with regular mages. I think she was channeling the light dragon to power her magic. Same colour, it even looks like she conjured a claw to open the window.
Hmmm, does Tess know Erin’s name? Given as we didn’t see Tess’s reaction while Alinua was recording the message, I’m going to guess “no”. I do look forward to Tess and Erin eventually meeting though, so we can figure out what that whole deal is about. Also, so we can see more Tess. More punchy metal lady=good thing
@indigo toxin &Coal
Most paladins are given light powers by their dragon, it’s not technically magic, atleast based on what we know of the light dragon.
@Coal don’t worry, replies haven’t been working for everyone since a few months back, when Red(the author) promoted the comic on her YouTube channel, Overly Sarcastic Productions. The servers were down for a few days with the huge flow of traffic, and even now it’s slightly broken, like I said, with the replies not working
@Coal. I just had the same thought as Geebi when I first saw the page. But now that I look at it properly it is different from how Shrikes stone magic looks.
My second guess would be water magic… but I’m a lot less sure about that one since it has no possible correlation
Erin getting bonked by the messenger borb made me laugh out loud. Looks like the call finally came through! I wonder if we’re going to see the message or if we’re going to flash sideways back to Alinua/Tess/Falst or Dainix/Kendal. I can’t help but wonder what the prison bros tm are doing, since it’s been a whole chapter since we’ve seen them and I miss them.
Also, the Junior Archivist has dragon powers! They look super cool, though probably not as impressive as Michael’s are.
Finally, I can’t help but wonder what’s going to happen when Erin goes to help Falst and Alinua, as he likely plans to. We might finally figure out why Tess is after him! It would be cool if they knew each other, but since I’m not sure Tess has ever mentioned his name I doubt it. It’s probably related to Tynan or the dark dragon-plosion she witnessed out in the wastelands. Maybe she knows that was Erin? Ugh, we’ll have to wait and see.
It’s hard for Erin because there is literally no place for the Light Dragon in his understanding of the world. The primordials, the Dark Dragon, all had visible effects on the world. Even the revelation of the Dark Dragon slotted into his mental framework of “there’s some sort of consuming element we’ve observed.”
The Light Dragon, as a fundamental part of the nature of the world, has not been observed as a fundamental part of the nature of the world. There’s no place to fit it in to the magiphysics of Erin’s current understanding.
It’s like if I said the 5 classicl elements were Earth, Air, fire, Water, and Snood. What is Snood, and why am I calling it a classical element?
Some people seemed to like it, so here it is: another edition of FUTURIVIA! (name still pending)
What will Alinua & Tess tell Erin first? Will it be:
A: The magic duo explaining what happened while Erin was r?
B: Alina wanting to get his butt over to the Embassy ASAP?
C: Falst waking up and causing havoc over a borb call?
D: Tess freaking out over finally being able to speak to the person she’s been looking for the whole time?
@Stark9865 I think his disbelief comes from the fact that if the Light and Void dragons are what they claim to be it means there were 8 primordials involved in the creation of the world instead of 6. It could also be a factor that outside one vague reference to his ‘other’ VD hasn’t mentioned there being another dragon at all; only talking about his battle with the primordials and his deal with the twins.
So it looks like most, if not all, paladins are given access to light magic. How much probably depends on rank; the junior archivist gets a little iris-glow and a small claw to open windows or grab books from afar, while the Light Dragon’s champion gets much stronger powers and full eye-glow when channeling large amounts of light magic, and dragon-like eyes when he isn’t (implying she can possess him whenever she wants, like the Void Dragon with Erin).
Coal:
I think the eye-glow only affects Alinua and the paladins because they have more active links with their respective primordials, as the paladins are all avatars of the Light Dragon, and Alinua is the avatar of Life. Theoretically, Erin’s eyes could “glow” black if he channeled void without being possessed, but that’s incredibly unlikely as the Void Dragon would pounce on the opportunity to possess him.
Somebody:
Man, Erin’s ego has had a rough time of it in Zuurith. First he went off on the junior archivist, then he had to humble himself to her, and to top it all off, he got hit in the head twice by messenger spells in front of other people. At least he got to flex his status to that microaggressing clerk and to Zuurith himself.
Was Erin on the verge of an epiphany? Was he literal seconds away from coming to the conclusion that the Lady is exactly who the Paladins say she is? Did that borb conk him on the head so hard that he’s suffered a minor concussion? Does the Junior Archivist realize that she may have drawn out the time it takes for him to accept the truth a little further? Did she let the borb in so abruptly out of annoyance that Erin has yet to stop questioning the Lady’s nature? How will Erin respond to the Floof Squad’s predicament? Will he try to work with the authorities to bail them out or will he join them in razing Zuurith’s status quo to the ground? Will my cliffhanger for page 16 ever post? Will Erin have the courage to tell Falst that his search for the original recipe for Temptations cat treats has not borne fruit?
I’m not as savvy with aurora lore as some others here; isn’t the fact that light magic exists at all a testament to the “cult’s” understanding of history? I wonder what Erin would’ve thought if he saw the archivist using it
Do you think we will maybe meet one person who is a mage with each element? (Kinda like Avatar minus the teaching it to the protagonist bit…) IDK really, I’m just excited for more!!
Not to mention I’m waiting for the look on Erin’s face when he learns that they saved a random metal warrior lady, got in trouble with the entire police force of Zuurith (not to mention a very determined bounty hunter who holds the title of the only person in this comic to cuss so far), got Falst shot in the arm and passed out, almost ended up being sent to the arena or dying, almost attempted to rescue Kendall from prison and OMG the look on his face is going to be GREAT!!
So… the light dragon is the sun right? Thats why the primoridals were willing to die defending it? Because it/she is the dark dragon’s equal and opposite. Maybe they had been intending to build a world for her and the dark dragon was like, a buffet. He did say he ate stars afterall. And if thats right it just makes me wonder what those two moons are. Stones other hearts maybe?
I’m a little worried about that the Junior Archivist is gonna say if she hears about the legal complications. Hopefully Alinua is smart enough to keep things vague…
Ahh! She’s connected to the light dragon somehow! Did y’all see how it was the same effect it uses for the light dragon? Do you guys think that there is a whole lign of mages able to manipulate light like we see here, or do you think she’s special in some way?
Hiii:
We already have met one person who is a mage of each element… and he just got conked in the head with a magic voicemail.
(I know you mean whether the group of main protagonists will eventually include six people who control one element each, but even excluding mages of the dragon duo, that would make a group of nine people, with the only exceptions to the one-element mage rule being Falst, Erin, and Kendal. That is a very large static cast and is thusly very difficult to write well; the character dynamics and power balance is already hard to wrangle with a team of four or five.)
The unknown game:
Oh whoopssss…. Wasn’t thinking about that. (The look on his face when he got hit on the head by the bird tho) But regardless, I’m really excited to see where Red takes this. I’m especially curious about Dainix and how he will fit in with the team. He definitely has his own thing to do, and I’m not sure how the dynamics would work between him and the others. But it also would be really cool for him to join the team, maybe just temporarily at least. Your thoughts?
THEORY, I wonder, if the 8th element really is soul, do you think that the soul shaper monks that Erin is currently seeking are Paladins using the power of the light dragon to help the world?
sO i’ma ignore the fact that Alinua mugged a guard and I’m just gonna ask real quick, does that mean the paladins were biased? Their creator saw the way the dark dragon destroyed everything, so now are they biased against the void even thought the lady saw him as her equal? O.o
Hiii:
I don’t know why, but Dainix has intrigued me since before he was even introduced (I guess the sketches page helped, seeing a one-eyed mage with fire all over his right arm and a smirk on his face), so I’m holding out hope that he becomes a permanent (or at least long-lasting) main protagonist.
@tubularical: if you go to the Lore tab, there’s info on lore :). But, tl;dr, Erin thinks the Paladins’ belief in a Light Dragon is unbased and that by the nature of their belief, they might have actually created a god to fit their religion. As such, they would have light powers to match their religion. Maybe I’m giving too much credit to what is possible but I think this is at least close to Erin’s train of thought.
@Leapyeargirl96: I think a lot of the Paladins are light mages.
@InsertPunHere: Light and air magic probably have a similar color scheme
In some of the extra lore on the site it’s mentioned that homculi made from the six known cannot consume to sustain themselves, causing theories of a seventh hidden element. The void, which we now know exists. Elsewhere it’s mentioned that hybrid species (and I assume the homculi too, but hopefully no one’s tried) cannot create offspring. That’s thought to be because they lack the Twins’ blessings, but what if it’s because they lack the light dragon’s blessing (since we know she exists to some extent as more than just a belief-created god)? The paladins are probably big on purity and order (especially considering the location of their headquarters), and the light dragon might find hybrid species an affront to the natural order and deny them the right to her powers of creation?
I think the archivist is like a light mage or something. Like Erin is the vessel of the void dragon, Alinua is life’s vessel. So like a white dragon mage.
Oh man, if only Erin turned around. Not only would he see the bird coming, but he’d also witness firsthand someone using light magic. Then again, he might dismiss it for stone magic
Panel 7 is freaking adorable, and that is all I have to say.
THE BORB HAS ARRIVED
And apparently The archivist is a mage, and a stone one at that
If the Lady can talk to her followers…
And the Junior Archivist has “light powers”…
Erin really dodged a bullet here with Ali not mentioning he’s the magus…
BOINK
“Erin we knocked out a guard and are hunted. Can you help us!”
I wonder how June will take this XD
And: wow Junes looks amazing with er light-claw spell! Dang that is some nice lighting!
Panel 7: Genius boop – erm, bap!
them figuring out how to send messenger birb but not quite getting it right
cute
And the bird goes bap
After going tap tap tap
On the big window
I appreciate you so much HelloHaiku

Wait, what kinda mage is she? Did she create an arm out of magic to open the window? It doesn’t look like the stone magic we’ve seen before.
………BAP

She used light powers; there isn’t a symbol on her hand for stone or something. 🙂

Erins grumpy face in the seconed to last panle is perfect!
I wonder how solid mesenger borbs are
Or… She could actually be inverse of the Void Dragon like everybody says she is. Why is this so hard for you, Erin?

Sorry Erin, looks like this study session is going to be cut short.
erin continues his long-running tradition of getting pummeled by birds

Uh what did they do to that guard to get their hands on his bird thing?
Uh oh.
…
Wait…
Wait! Does this mean Erin will finally have his moment in the sun with ACTUALLY saving the day for real?
Why is it today after seeing this page do I get hit in the head with a purple ballon

@humaniod clay, probably a mix of A&D
@hallon, Oh my gosh I hope so! Plus he could really use the ego boost right now ?
sudden fear just hit me as I considered the possibility that Eren might prefer to just keep on reading instead of helping his friends
