Love how many questions I used to get about “can a stone mage puppet people by their bones??” and everyone seemed so disappointed when the answer was no, as though there weren’t several ways for a stone mage to get around the soul barrier limitation and jerk people around just through creative use of pointy metal objects
Oooh snap, playtime’s over kids!
GO GET ‘EMMM ALIIII!!
Life is going ape shit!!!
Is that metal dust?
Is Shrike trying to puppet them?
Life magic, such a gentle, healing art.
🙂
Yikes, Falst probably
should not have swiped at those beads…
He might fall asleep!
(Bonus)
Life magic go brr
Creates a huge wall of vines
Tiny blue melons 😀
Erin in the archives: “I sense a disturbance in the force.”
some unsuspecting bounty hunters are about to get suplexed into dust by a primordial avatar
Looks like she’s going to jail.
@Tylow Star
It’s the powder they were preparing earlier. https://comicaurora.com/aurora/1-14-4/
Alinua used the pollen from that type of flower to subdue Erin and the Void Dragon back in Chapter 7.
https://comicaurora.com/aurora/1-7-28/
Man that’s gotta hurt like HECK. Falst has some really high pain tolerance
Also, out of curiosity who’s everyone’s favorite character? (You can have more than one)
Mine is falst
E N O U G H
I love Alinua sort of became the actual DPS of the group.
Everybody: Hehe plant lady. So innocent and defencless
Ali: no
Also, my favourite character is Falst. I mean, who doesn’t love him?
If you look carefully at those plans, you’ll see some little blue fruit hanging off them. I’m assuming those are the melons.
I get the feeling this is still not gonna end well for our protagonists, but MAN is it gonna feel satisfying to watch Alinua go little a ape shitt, as a treat
(also my favorite character tends to switch around depending on who’s getting focused on at the moment, but Alinua and Tess are pretty high up in the rankings! And also Kendal, and Falst, and Erin, and and and…. you see my problem XD)
Well, Life finds a way. That way is melons. Lots and lots of melons. Anyway, it’s looking like it’s properly impossible to actually confine Alinua. The real question to me is if she can get Tess and Falst out of there.
As some silly youtube people once said – Don’t f#*$ with the white mage.
My favorite is a toss-up between Kendal and Erin. Both are members of archetypes that I’m fond of.
Alinua is done XD
Alinua keeping up the proud tradition of establishing why you do not screw with the white (or in this case green) mage.
What if Falst only swiped at the beads because he reverted to the cat instinct of trying to catch whatever’s currently in the air near them
Hardcore L/N country: These people seem like they might be seditious, better assault them in spite of a complete lack of evidence.
Same country 10 sec later: And then the life mage levelled a city block completely unprovoked! It’s a good thing our 3rd party bounty hunters were already arresting them at the time.
And just like that, Zuurith is no more.
Alinua: I’m a healer, but…
Has anyone else noticed that Tess does not have irises? And that only other people without irisis are gods?
Alinua can kick ass. We’ve seen that before. But how she goes from Alinua to “Life’s Apostle who show’s no mercy to those that harm her friends” is always refreshing. I have a friend who calls himself Vans and he writes stuff like this.
And then Alinua decided she was done with today.
Falst is my favorite:). Anyone else think there might be potential side effect to being possessed once a week( or more)?
TL;DR: There’s no better way to work up a powerful Life elf than to mess around with her charges. Plants away!
Or heck, just use rocks. Rocks are everywhere, and there’s a lot of them. Not as flashy as grabbing someone by the skeleton, but it works pretty dang well.
When I said she was going to explode, I wasn’t being literal! Now I have to wait until Friday to see what kind of damage she’s going to do.
Falst: I’d run if I were you guys. I’ve seen how she gets and it’s not pretty.
Also, my favorite character is Erin, though I love the entire floof squad. But big-brain hubris man especially captured my heart when I read chapter 5.
Ah, I always love it when Alinua and Life speak at the same time. It’s been a while since that last happened!
Life: “Aren’t you tired of being nice? Don’t you just want to go apeshit?”
Indigo Toxin:
My favorite is Kendal. What can I say, I love characters that are kind and helpful. Plus, he’s got some interesting stuff going on, with the whole demigod situation (and possibly a past as a literal sword). Also, I know we haven’t seen him long, but Dainix is already working his way up there for me as well; he’s intriguing, mysterious, and, despite his awful circumstances, remarkably calm, yet determined. (Plus, I was already hyped to see him before his reveal.)
Go! Alinua!
What will Alinua do?
Alinua used Grass form…
It’s super effective!
Shrike fainted!
You win!
Wouldn’t it be cool if Alinua’s Primordy form changed according to the plants and environment around her?
Who needs rock magic when you’ve got a PLANTSPLOSION!
To Indigo Toxin: It’s hard to choose them, but I did like Dainix’s speech about emotions as power. I had a similar kind of view to it, but it was limited compared to what Dainix talks about. So yeah, I think I’m going to like that guy as the story goes on.
You cannot convince me that Falst isn’t entranced by how sparkly Shrike’s dust is in panel 8. And holy crap is the last panel gorgeous!! I predict that Shrike’s science-defying bangs will meet their end at the hands of angry Alinua. Tragedy indeed.
@Indigo Toxin: Erin. He’s not my typical favorite archetype, but he’s absolutely hilarious, and I love his engrained, general notion of logic over immediate morals. Plus his character design is my favorite, not to mention he comes with a two-for-one deal thanks to the VD. Falst gets second place—I’m powerless against the Tragic Backstory ™️. And the Collector gets third.
Is this a threat that Shrike will be able to contain? Do Alinua’s Team Mom powers intersect with her Life Mom powers? Was that deus-ex melon also a lacrima? How is Zuurith going to react to the Primordial of Vash-damned Life just erupting in the middle of his city without warning? Does Life Mom technically outrank Zuurith in his own system? Will he recognize this power imbalance? Will Falst ever be able to look at Temptations cat treats the same way again?
Tune in This Week to Find Out!
Kick her ass Alinua!
Wait, is Alinua the Big Guy?
Well, shit’s going down now
I’m really wondering what got Life Mum worked up…
Or can Alinua invoke her at will? Does Life Mum share Alinua’s care of her companions?
Life Mum is definately coming though. Alinua’s eyes are full glowing green instead of just the pupils….
alt text: masks are good but capturing us CLEARLY violates social distancing protocols
You are magically yanking on an arrow embedded in someone’s ARM. If you wanted me to believe that you are in any way a decent person, bounty hunter lady, this is NOT it.
@Cesium Alinua used Melon Destruction! The enemy Sidestreet fainted!
Personally I’m just scared Falst will hurt himself in his confusion.
Spooky scary primordial send shivers down your spine
When it comes to favorite characters, I love Alinua because one of my favorite tropes is a generally quiet and anxious character with special powers they are worried about. An example of this would be Moonwatcher from Wings of Fire. Not saying that Ail is a nervous wreck, just that she can be a little more reserved than characters like Kendal or Erin.
Hm. I cant decide who my favourite character is tbh
Guys, remember ages ago we were discussing the effect of catnip of Falst. Well…
Its on now! *Picks a rock music for the anticipated chaotic actions.*
This is exactly what I wanted to see. Time for Alinua to show everyone who is the real power house.
This is very much pointing out that she’s been holding back this entire time. We do not want to see her unleash her full power.
I love how enthusiastically ready the whole comment section is for Alinua to suplex Shrike into the dirt with plant magic.
Love panels 3-end, the still-looking shots (especially panel 9) interspersed with Alinua make it look like slow-mo from a movie. Great work!
Swiss-PoleArm:
Tess is not a deity (or an avatar of one, as we see with Alinua and as we’ve seen with the Light Dragon’s champion way back in chapter 7), she’s just a regular mortal person. A useful identifier for determining whether someone in the Auroraverse is a deity (or divine avatar) or not is eye-glow; if a person’s eyes are entirely one color and they’re glowing, the person is a deity, or is otherwise channeling divine power. As to why some normal, non-glowy mortal races/species have eyes without irises or pupils… I got nothing besides “Red likes drawing them that way for some reason”.
That seems likely, seeing how life here is about mutating to survive, different forms for life depending on the environment would fit in.
Thank goodness, I was beginning to think they might actually get captured.
@ Indigo Toxin:
Favorite character is Tess. She can and will fight everything like a D&D character, but is also a super calm person and very polite to the people she talks to. She just RADIATES self confidence and is so much fun to watch.
For thoughts on the other protagonists: Erin’s hubris is hilarious to watch and I 100% vibe with all the moments he rambles into Science Nerd territory (both in character moments and dialogue). Kendal is so sweet and pure and devoted to absolutely everyone <3. Falst's pure sass and common sense are an awesome addition to the team. Ali as both Team Mom and Life Mum is really cool and her character is so cute. I havent seen enough of Dainix yet to truly understand his character, but so far, his logical look on events is refreshing to watch and I like him. :3
@Skystrike: ooh a fellow WoF fan! I like your hypothesis, and I'll raise you one myself. Qibli was my favorite character, and currently I'm pegging either Dainix or Tess to be somewhat similar: Dainix with the tirade of logic he showed in the prison, and Tess's fun outlook on life and uncanny perceptiveness/bigger focus of the larger plot going on.
On the topic of comparing characters with other ones, the dynamic between Erin and Voidy reminds me of the movie Venom, but a more toxic relationship.
Welcome to Aurora, where you can have TWO possessed protagonists for the price of ONE!!!
Haven’t seen anyone else mention this, so: if you look closely at Alinua’s speech bubble, you’ll see it’s got two tails- Aliuna and Life seem to be speaking in unison! Shrike is so dead.
Rayvee:
I noticed; I implied my notice in my first comment, “Alinua and Life speak[ing] at the same time.” I love that little detail; it’s showed up a few times before as well.
my favorite is dainix. i don’t know, i just like em.
Is this the first known instance of Checkov’s melon being … grown?
@Indigo Toxin
mine is Kendall and Erin
falst’s poor Achilles wrist
The only downside to Alinua having used the seeds she did is that now all Shrike needs to do to track her down is go back to the melon seller and ask for a description of anyone who purchased a melon that day (and that matches whatever description she gets from the one goon who actually saw Alinua).
On the other hand, seeing as Life has now stepped in and is clearly not happy, perhaps she’ll decide to take a step back…Oh, who am I kidding. This is just going to make Shrike twice as determined, because catching someone with Alinua’s abilities is literally a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity (at best), and she’s not going to be able to resist the promise of the glory of such a hunt.
To @Swiss-PoleArm
I also noticed that but I always thought it was just a metalcaste thing, though it would be interesting if Tess actually was a goddess, but I don’t think this is where the story wants to go.
Anyways, Alinua, ???? ????? ???.
My favorite character is, funnily enough, not one of the Floof Squad(yes I know everyone has floofy hair, but the protagonists are the only ones who get the title of Floof Squad). Tahraim is actually my favorite, cause he kinda just screws with everyone while helping them, and I find it hilarious. He also takes pride in his work, which is respectable.
Also, can’t Tess just punch her magic restraining thingy and shatter it?
Last thing, Alinua, give them hell.
My favorite character is actually Tahraim, because he kind of trolls everyone while helping them, speaks in riddles and stories, and has pride in his work. We saw him once, but it was entertaining.
For the comic, can’t Tess just smash that magic restraining cuff? She snapped chains without breaking a sweat after all.
Also, give ’em hell Alinua!
Oh, I just realized something. Couldn’t Shrike just suspend Falst and Tess in the air? The fall wouldn’t hurt them, but they would barely be able to fight at that point.
MELOOONS!
Meruem:
*click* Always has been.
Generally:
I cannot pick a favorite for the life of me, they are all so good. I kind of just want them all to be able to bounce off each other and see what happens.
In response to Skye from last comic. I am not exactly sure how each one would go, but I can try to give some examples.
Rating top three panels: This one would be like an opinion about which names are the best on this page. Possibly naming them as well. For example, 7,8,3 Falst slash, Aliuna glowy eyes, and Falst and Tess get pulled around by smart earth magic.
Internal monologues: Basically just giving a slightly non sequitur train of thought for one of the characters. For example, Tess, “That is one tough cat dude.. I keep running into that guy.. mare sleepy magic.. I could really use a good nap right about now.. if only I had excepted that offer that stone mage gave me.. her could have never kept up though.. are those melons? They are so blue!.. Oh, scary magic glowy girl is very glowy..
Narrator’s reaction: This is like the thing when you have a narrator who comments on their own story. Like, “And then melon vines sprang up from the ground with a loud crack. Seriously, have you ever heard the sound of concrete being demolished by vines in less than a second. It is absolutely terrifying. Though most onlookers by this point in the chase were all knocked out or had left the street. It definitely would have sent them running in terror. Anyways, where was I…”
State of Alinua’s ears: I honestly don’t know about this one, I am just kind of obsessed with her ears. They are so good at showing her emotions. Even under a cloak. This page, Aliuna has her ears pinned pinned back very angrily, but subtly under her cloak.
What if (previous event had not happened): So, this would be just an open ended question about a small thing that happened much earlier in the comic, pondering how it would make the current situation different. For example, what if Aliuna didn’t have money to buy melons?
yes hello, and welcome to melon explosions with life lady!
@indigo toxin, Hands down Erin is bet boi! (Just being silly like anyone you want 😉 but really I just love Erin, how can he be such a pompous nitwit, and yet SO LOVEABLE?! But I also like Tess so far she’s really cool, and her and falst are pretty much the only ones with common sense. (Which as we’ve established is not Kendal’s strong suit XD)
hey it’s the balls from 1-13-23! i only found the page when i reread the comic.
https://comicaurora.com/aurora/1-13-23/
oh wait nevermind are those just the sleepy powder things
Oh, I liked the soul explanation… I guess it’s bone puppet time
my favorite character has to be dainix. hes so cute. and sexy. and look at those muscles
