No! Dynamically addressing each other by name stops us commenters making terrible nicknames! … On second thoughts, maybe that’s not such a bad thing.
So that’s Shrike, not as outwardly intimidating as I expected with a name like that but her dialogue, posture and facial expressions have an underlying edge to them. Plus this is her off-duty and not in her work clothes; she could look very different when suited up.
So are these two friends or does Shrike just try to be friendly with and know the names of all the guards in town? Could be out of necessity with how close her hunters work with them or helpful when intel gathering on potential targets.
Hmm, still no new chapter title page, that’s odd considering the night is over- … Wait a minute. What if “Long Night” wasn’t referring to last night? What if it was referring to the night coming?

Shrike? I wouldn’t be surprised if this character is a magician specialising in illusions and has a loki-esque behaviour in regards to skullduggery and general mischief. Or she could be a bounty hunter. I literally forgot to read the last panel on the left.
Wonder if her name will have any relation to the bird. Seeing as shrikes are carnivorous butchers.

Ah, a bounty hunter! And do you not greet friends and acquaintances by name? Unless you really don’t like the person and greet them with “oh, its *you*”, or an expletive-laden descriptor, names don’t seem out of place. At least, to me.
Not sure if those two are flirting or not. Might be a bit of “flirting to get your way” on Shrike’s part, but I’m bad at figuring that shit out.

You know, maybe that should tip you off that the person you’re hunting doesn’t want to hurt anyone? I’m just saying it’s massive fucking overkill to hunt down and imprison someone just for being on high places.
I have questions:
No, not to me; Shrike seems to be very playful and teasing, whereas Lust, while she smiles all the time and might crack a few jokes, is still more serious and sinister. Shrike just doesn’t give off the same vibes to me, you know? At least not yet, this is just her first appearance.

People seem to say each other’s name when they speak in real life too, even if they know each other *and* there’s no one else around they could be addressing. It always seems strange to me, but it’s definitely not unrealistic.

To Skye: The “sigh” was because I feel old. I know it hasn’t been long, but seeing new people come in makes me feel like some stereotypical grumpy grandparent in a creaky rocking chair.
Groudon in Ultra Sun, my favorite Pokemon. IDK why, I’m partial to dragons but for some reason I like it. *Shrug*
So far the only thing popping out of the wormholes are the ordinary guys or things I’m not interested in.

Oh, and may I just take a moment to voice my disappointment that the character named after one of my favorite birds doesn’t have a color theme that aligns with the bird in question? Gray/white/black is an extremely classy color combo.

I understand; I started posting the alt text for that same reason. I’m just not able to necessarily get to it first thing–I have morning classes on update days. And I think you might be a timezone or two ahead of me, given that I can post ~9:30 am and you’ve generally visited by then.

Groudon’s cool. Admittedly, I was always a bit more partial to Kyogre, but he’s grown on me (and yes, I know, genderless Pokemon, but I tend to think of my ORAS Groudon as a he). Props to you to Wormhole hunting, though–I don’t have the patience for it. Not sure if it’s just the age of my 3DS making the controls sluggish or if I’m just that lousy at the minigame, but I can never get far enough to get to anything worthwhile. Though that reminds, I’ve got a couple reclaim hunts to get back to when I have the time…

To Skye: I named my ORAS Groudon “Ronan” and promptly smothered Wallace with him… I too think of it as a guy. I have gotten pretty far in the minigame despite the controls being a bit fidgety- I have landed a couple 100% legendary wormholes but all of them contained mons I had already caught or had underwhelming shinies so I knocked them out for the experience. They come back infinitely until caught anyway. On the plus side, I did wind up catching a few normal shinies. I took my shiny Altaria to level 80 before I realized it would probably make Episode RR (which I hadn’t completed at the time) too easy. I can’t help but lead with a dragon, haha.

The background character in panel one reminds me of Lapis. The Lolest, I can’t see anywhere that it says they are a captain. Also I suspect captains don’t do guard duty. Also, everyone is assuming both of their genders.

Ok. Ok. look at the clothes shrike is wearing. If you look at the bg characters, very few of them are wearing dresses or anything else as nice as that. (And on frame four, you can see that the dress only comes to around her mid-thigh on one side and slopes down) She’s also got leggings or something on underneath the dress and very fancy sleeves that come right down to her hand (and also bell sleeves so you know). And look at her necklace. You’re not going to buy that cheap. Few others also wear earrings and those ones also look expensive so… i dunno what point I’m trying to make here… : |
I recently learned that I’m not the only one who thinks something like this: Shrike is trying to put the moves on Vienne, who’s a captain, not a basic guard, but their past history together makes Vienne very wary. But for Shrike, it’s worth a try. And she can afford to buy Vienne the kind of fancy dinner she’d not otherwise get to have.
So, Shrike came dressed to the nines on the chance that she could convince Vienne to do her a widdle favor, but quickly changes her approach when she realizes she’s underestimated how little Vienne trusts her.
