*air horns*
(Wait wasn’t it Void Dragon?)
You probably realized this by now, but it goes by multiple names
Citing a person’s beliefs because they align with your goal. Go Erin!
The crazy thing is that if Erin wanted to spite the Academy, that sounds like something he would attempt.
Very astute points and logical reasoning from the Junior Archivist; I see a promotion in her future … assuming there’s still an archive left at the end of this arc for her to be employed at.
Erin’s boxed himself into a corner now; not only was his initial request weird but his drive and later apology too. I don’t think he can just leave now without attracting undue attention. Maybe this apology/last shot wasn’t the best idea.
The best excuse I can think of that he can use is that he was investigating the storm, watched it vanish and saw a shadowy and unexplainable figure near the centre that he now wants to investigate. It would provide a good explanation for his interest but it runs the risk of the Paladins interrogating him for info, finding the flaws in his story and maybe figuring out the truth.
Next weeks prediction: Leaving here on this point and changing scene to some of the other players. Falst and Alinua discussing their new plan or maybe more Kendal and Dainix interactions and their reactions to news of their organised fight.
To the Lolest. I think he’s just playing dumb. The dragon literally lives in his head and it would probably correct him if he was making a mistake, I don’t think red would pass on the opportunity for Erin to say “the blac- vooooiiid!- I mean *void* dragon” I think Erin is just trying to make it seem like he doesn’t know that much
Oh no, the secretary doesn’t have NPC memory
“I’m going to DESTROY the academy with FACTS and LOGIC”
“And if all else fails, I can just show this random ta- thing that proves it. Yep. Nothing to do with a giant tattoo of it. Not possessed. Nope.”
“Also citing a lot of primary sources, they really like that”
Unfortunately for Erin and the world at large, he also has exclusive access to the primary-est source of all.
While he is only telling a half-truth here, it still reveals a subtle tell in his beliefs: he says he only wants to prove The Void Dragon real; not The Light Dragon, as he seems to still think they don’t exist. Let’s hope their champion doesn’t show up in the middle of Erin’s study session and prove him wrong in the worst way possible…
Alt text for phone readers: “the best lies are the ones that are technically true.”
Apologies to any users whose turf I’m intruding on…
Another good excuse could be offering to transcribe some of the fragile records but that was before he had one day
Junior Archivist: So why are you so interested in the Black Dragon?
Erin: *Sweating* I just… really love proving people wrong
I appreciate the pause between panels there, I feel like I can see Erin’s brainwheels turning
“Technically true. I’m either going to prove them wrong by showing them all the information I used to stop the Void Dragon inside me from destroying the world, or by failing to do that.”
“Sir, did you mean to say that part out loud?”
I wonder why Erin doesn’t seem to remember that his Void Dragon already referred to His Other when they were strolling through the caves together? Clearly, the Paladins are not the only ones who believe in the white dragon.
Theory: The White Dragon is gonna be a self fulfilling prophecy.
another other:
Exactly. From the sounds of it, The Light Dragon has been around since at least the creation of the first mortal races, probably longer if the paladins’ theory of the creation of The Twins is true.
Ah, the easiest way to lie: tell the truth, just leave out some important parts.
These circumstances
do seem pretty suspicious…
Time for a half-truth!
So apparently Erin’s previous assholery (Asshole-ness?) wasn’t exclusive to him and everyone else at the academy is just as bad. Beginning to see why Erin didn’t want to go to the academy, “Wrong-side-of-the-magnifying-glass” aside. A whole school of Erins would be a nightmare- one is plenty, thanks.
TL;DR: “You are an entitled weirdo but I am still quite intrigued with your request and especially your apology”
“I know, I’m amazed I apologized too, especially since you know… I am sort of possessed by your arch nemesis, the ultimate evil, THE VOID DRAGON”
So apparently Erin’s previous assholery (Asshole-ness?) wasn’t exclusive to him and everyone else at the academy is just as bad? Suddenly I’m beginning to see why Erin didn’t want to go to the academy, “Wrong-side-of-the-magnifying-glass” aside. A whole school of Erins would be a nightmare- one is plenty, thanks.
Whoops- only meant to post that once.
Archivist: “…But why the sudden desire to prove it now?”
Erin: “Because i had a chance encounter with it.”
How many beans is Erin prepared to spill? Will the Archivist take his story at face value? Will the Void Dragon panic and possess him at the least opportune moment? Is he about to explain that this desire to prove the academy wrong started when he lost a crokinole match?
Tune in Next Week to Find Out!
another other:
Because Erin fundamentally does not believe in things he has not experienced. He has no experience with the White Dragon and his old training has taught him that its not real, so he’s still sticking by that. Yes, the Void Dragon mentioned “My Other” but Erin might have misheard that or not connected it to the White Dragon yet. He’ll learn, though. He’s smart, if he finds evidence to the contrary, he’ll change his mind.
Today’s Alt Text:
the best lies are the ones that are technically true
Given the Dark and Light thing, this thought occurred to me while reading the comments: Isn’t it odd how the background around the comic is a starry black, but if there are enough comments, the background eventually transitions to white, with green and yellow starry highlights?
Ata boy, just completely skip over the part where you don’t believe the white dragon or any other part of the faith is real.
I consider this character development
ok now this is good my charactor
Why would he mention that to the order tasked with fighting the thing?
Hey, I’m finally Caught up!
Art analysis:
I myself am currently working on a comic but I’m using a simpler art style, the kind where the characters hair has to have the same 3 shapes or else it doesn’t look like the same character.
I thought Reds artsyle was the kind of art style where you just had to have the same length and hair color and it would look like the same person.
But nope! I was wrong, I noticed that Erin consistently has a single lock of hair between his eyes!
Not entirely sure how Erin plans to swing this without the Paladins finding out about his possession situation, because “proving the academy wrong” would only get him so far if he gets into trying to research ways to stop the Void Dragon or sever a connection with it.
“You are technically correct. The best kind of correct.”
Nice
Ah yes, the instant erin has access to the archive area the void dragon is gonna possess him and release a corrosive blast. No matter how scared of Alna he is he won’t pass up that chance I bet.
Every time I hear reference to “The Black Dragon” I think of the ones portrayed by Chris Claremont in his works with George Lucas and John Bolton. The ones that were the personification, so to speak, of magic in the worlds they inhabit. Everyone else I talk to seems to think of the D&D chaotic evil kind.
Panel 7 cute
Yay, finally Walter can become a real dragon.
