Could make for an interesting discussion when the guards come back. “Why is everything broken?” “Demonstrating that I’m here because I CHOOSE to behave.”
… Well, good to know just in case.
A less dramatic chain breaking than I expected but it’s comedic value more than makes up for it. Think Kendal will have to spend more time in as punishment for damaging prison property or just get Erin to foot the bill?
I would say this is a great time for a backstory exposition monologue from Dainix but he doesn’t seem like the one to go into that without some prompting and genuine interest from Kendal.
wait… but if he’s that strong… why didn’t he just dig out the people stuck under the mountain in Vash after he recovered? I’m probably just missing something.
Kendal is basically like what I imagine Superman would be like if he was ever arrested. No jail could really hold him, but he’d stay anyways because he doesn’t want to hurt anyone by breaking out. Though I imagine that if something really threatening happened, he’d probably be out that window faster than you could blink.
To no-one the people of Vash are very dead, however their souls are still trapped because Vash had to release them as part of a funeral rite, but he’s kinda too captured to do that.
no-one:
By the time Kendal returned to the city (or what was left of it), everyone trapped inside was already dead, so digging out their corpses wouldn’t have done much good. “But what about that whole soul-releasing thing? Surely digging out their corpses would be handy for that?” Well, no. Vash needs to be the one to release his people’s connection to him; Kendal couldn’t have done it.
The thing is, is that the people of vash aren’t stuck down there. they are actually DEAD, and vash needs to perform funeral rights so that they can escape their ghostly torture and move onto the next life
Beyond what’s already been explained, there’s also just the logistics of the matter. I mean, you can be as strong as you like, but without some serious superspeed, you’re still not excavating a mountain by yourself any time soon. That’s a *lot* of rock to move, and then he’d have to figure out where to put all the gravel he’s making without hurting anything else, and figure out how to keep himself fed and well-rested, assuming he even realized that he needed to before he dropped dead of malnutrition and exhaustion… his body, as a vessel for a protector god, is just straight-up better off using his strength for combat rather than trying to be a one-man excavation crew, is what I’m saying.
And here is where we are subtly reminded that Kendal is only about two weeks old and still a bit naive: Dainix asks if he could hypothetically break out, and Kendal promptly proves that he could do so quite easily if he wanted. Never mind the fact that he’s only known Dainix for at best a few hours and that the latter could have an ulterior motive for getting him to display his strength so casually (though based on Dainix’s face in those panels, it was an innocent question)–Kendal’s just like, “Could I do this? Lemme check real quick. Yep, I could.”
Honestly, it’s kind of adorable. But then again, between his convictions to do the morally right thing and to assume the best in people until proven otherwise, and his slight dorkiness because he’s still figuring out how being mortal works (which includes the innocence/naivety thing, especially when it inadvertently causes problems for his traveling companions), he’s a really wholesome character to read–so that makes perfect sense.
I wonder what type of rock that is. Not conglomerate or puddingstone (wrong fracture pattern), but they’re fairly close to a sea-coast so it’s most likely sandstone or limestone. Some other type of sedimentary rock is also possible, or the mountain could be an extinct volcano which would make it an extrusive igneous rock. Metamorphic is possible, but unlikely given that this appears to a geologically young mountain and the cell is very shallow.
I am of course assuming the cell was carved into live rock from the inside. If it wasn’t, then that particular wall is most likely made of concrete.
So d9es any9ne have like, headcanon voiceactors for these characters? Cause like, for every character except Kendal, I HEAR VOICES. N9t like specific actors, but… you know, english rich boy, growly cat boy, KATARA, spooky MUFASA god voice 1 and 2… but then i see Kendal… and all I hear is RED. RED I tell you!
Overall ill rate this an 84 out of 100. Characters are unique and what little of the world we’ve seen is thought out if not very detailed. Politics are coming into play without bogging down the story, Some chapter titles would be nice, I can’t really tell how long the story is. One of the weaknesses of Comics is a lack of narration, so more detailed art can come into play to help with that. This is really good, the world will hopefully fill in as the story goes on. As far as I can tell this story can and will only improve as it grows. I really hope Alivua is the self-insert. Pls make tons more of this.
I, Rosco – I do have headcanon voices for each of them, but not really the same as yours:
Kendal/Vash: Reuben Langdon, with Vash sounding exactly like Dante and Kendal (obviously) more measured.
Alinua: This is the one I think of as Red. Granted, shouting with emotion more often than Red tends to do.
Erin: Blue. I’m sure that’s not the intention, but the guy was introduced narrating history, and in this art style…
Falst: Patrick Seitz, more or less split between Ragna the Bloodedge and Scorpion.
The Collector: Kate Higgins, oscillating between detached and impassioned much like C.C.
The Void Dragon: Definitely that “2-4 people in eerie unison” thing.
Tynan: Jamieson Price in his eeriest monotone.
Zuurith: Okay, I actually do hear him as grumpy Mufasa.
“Metal Woman”: Stephanie Sheh – for whatever reason, I picture the six-foot-tall badass with a high, soft voice.
Meanwhile, in the cell below: “YES IT IS! IT IS SPECIFICALLY THE WALLS! THE GUARDS, CHAINS, AND WATCHTOWERS DO NOT HELP!”
Other Prisoner: “And the societal repercussions of being an escapee…”
“YES. FINE. THAT TOO.”
I, Rosco- I don’t know any specific voice actors for the others,
but for me I can only really hear Falst in Red’s voice. With a particularly sarcastic tone.
Ooh! We’re assigning voice actors to the characters now? Let’s throw my hat in the ring, shall I? I haven’t actually assigned specific actor’s voices to the characters, so I’ll try retroactively matching someone that fits to the voices I’ve imagined.
Kendal – Matt Mercer doing a soft, but strong-sounding voice.
Alinua – Ashley Johnson doing a soft voice with a slight Scottish accent.
Erin – Sam Rigel doing the most arrogant sounding upper British accent he can.
Falst – Dante Bosco, doing the scratchiest voice he can get away with without damaging his vocal cords.
Tess – Red. Have you seen any of Red’s gaming livestreams with Blue? Tess has the same energy.
Dainix – Liam O’Brien doing the same voice he did for Vax’ildan.
Vash – Matt Mercer and Blue’s voices overlaid on top of each other multiple times.
Tynan – Travis Wilingham and James Earl Jones overlaid multiple times.
Caliban – Red and Blue’s voices overlaid on top of each other multiple times.
Tahraim – Ben Affleck, Adam Sandler and James Earl Jones overlaid on top of each other multiple times.
Zuurith – James Earl Jones and Mark Hamil overlaid on top of each other multiple times.
Void Dragon – Sam Rigel overlaid with Morgan Freeman and James Earl Jones.
i actually read out loud the pages to myself >< but only a select characters because i cant do male voices. i basically do it for fun and to immerse myself in the story hehe for the voices i do
alinua – my voice basically, which is a bit low for a cis girl
erin (the one male exception because shut up) – my "fancy" accent (which is my attempt of being british but i think it fits because i imagine he would put on this obviously fake english accent to look fancy lol)
lightning lady – my booming warrior voice
the collector – my voice but way lower and more husky
i also do some random voices for random characters if i feel like it. in my head kendal has a more tenor voice, kinda like disney hercules? falst has a very ashy voice, and for the others i dont have a set voice for them when i hear it
They aren’t underground. They’re dead and their SOULS are trapped in the mountain. Digging their souls out wouldn’t necessarily do anything. Also digging up mountains is really hard.
Of course he broke it ???
Locked in the cell with the highest security, but he might as well be surrounded by styrofoam walls.
dainix
*pets screen*
Well that was easy.
He broke the chains, just like that.
Wall has dent now too.
Can’t leave just yet though
Have to have heart to heart first
More bonding time, yay!
DAINIX STOP INTERNALIZING we know you could fuse those iron bars with your fire magic if you wanted, you are not useless!
Could make for an interesting discussion when the guards come back. “Why is everything broken?” “Demonstrating that I’m here because I CHOOSE to behave.”
Sir, you broke perfectly fine chains and walls…
i mean kendel is just bragging now
i mean kendal is just showing off now
kendal stronk
Destruction of public property… good thing they’re already under arrest.
Lol, if I didn’t know better, I’d think Kendal was showing off, but he’s too straightforward for that.
ok I keep simpin’ for this guy
wait… but if he’s that strong… why didn’t he just dig out the people stuck under the mountain in Vash after he recovered? I’m probably just missing something.
Oh god Kendal is so strong
(Also Dainix is very hot)
I did get the feeling that the chains were more of a formality, but damn.
I like how Kendal is bonding with his cellmate by basically going “yeah, i could break out of here if my friends weren’t hostages. How about you?”
Gotta love Kandel. He knows damn well that he could probobly break this entire jail to bits but he is a responsible person so he prefer to act wisely.
no-one:

To TheUnknownGame and Brendon:
Ok, thanks for explaining it to me.
This is the best page in the comic so far.
@no-one, he didn’t dig out his people because they were all already dead 🙁
I expected this Falst even pointed it out earlier but damn Kendal.
Yeah, pretty much exactly what I was expecting when I saw Kendal shackled to the floor.
“Metal cuffs? You actually think those can hold him? That’s adorable.”
ok but Dainix in the last panel is so cuuute and i’m pretty sure he was my bi awakening o_o
TL;DR: Sword guy is punching a whole in the prison break attempt we all know is coming.
Given how effortlessly he broke the chains and the wall, Kendal is definitely a Fighting-Type.
now I’m wondering if Reds going to give Kendal a “world of cardboard” speech ala superman
Wait, Kendal is breaking through stone WITHOUT using his sword? What madness is this?
responding to no-one:
The thing is, is that the people of vash aren’t stuck down there. they are actually DEAD, and vash needs to perform funeral rights so that they can escape their ghostly torture and move onto the next life
Interesting, I love Dainix already

Kendal’s about to break out the World of Cardboard speech, immediately followed by Great Power/Great Responsibility.
And here is where we are subtly reminded that Kendal is only about two weeks old and still a bit naive: Dainix asks if he could hypothetically break out, and Kendal promptly proves that he could do so quite easily if he wanted. the walls are WEAK LIKE CHEESE

It’d be upsett8ng if it d8dnt make bas8c sense…
Darn, I thought there was more to read. That’s torture. I wanna see the storm God fight the fragile ego God

To Ms Bell:
Since the prison was basically dug out of a mountain, I’m guessing limestone, because I think that is a pretty soft rock.
I said that wrong. Sorry. Miss Bell
Two days later:
“Dainix! The hell did you do to the wall?!?”
I, Rosco – I do have headcanon voices for each of them, but not really the same as yours:

*casually breaks his chains and the vashdamn wall*
“oh its nothing man”
@Crimson Doom They are sitting next to a window, just break through the window.
Meanwhile, in the cell below: “YES IT IS! IT IS SPECIFICALLY THE WALLS! THE GUARDS, CHAINS, AND WATCHTOWERS DO NOT HELP!”
Other Prisoner: “And the societal repercussions of being an escapee…”
“YES. FINE. THAT TOO.”
Stone walls do not a prison make, nor iron bars a cage
I, Rosco- I don’t know any specific voice actors for the others,
but for me I can only really hear Falst in Red’s voice. With a particularly sarcastic tone.
They’re so cute ?
I can see the five all lined up! Now they just have to meet

Steve, Lord of Darkness- Oooh, that’s a good list.
Zuurith: Breaking prison property??? HELLA ILLEGAL!!! I sentence you to … I don’t know yet!!! Further confinement or something?!?!
They aren’t underground. They’re dead and their SOULS are trapped in the mountain. Digging their souls out wouldn’t necessarily do anything. Also digging up mountains is really hard.
Doesn’t matter that you are a he/him, I like you with a muscular feminine voice.
Alt text: but the walls definitely help
*low whistle* is it hot in here or is it just Dainix?
He gives me trans vibes. Life magic is magic, and also the talk about being imprisoned for what you are. We respect, we love, and we headcanon.
