Wait, Vash rhymes with thrash? I always pronounced it with a Spanish ‘a’ in my head.
Ohhhhhh no, have I been mispronouncing it this whole time? What else have I been mispronouncing? Is Erin actually EE-rin? Is Kendal pronounced Kin-DALE or something? Am I going to learn that Tynan is “Tie-nin” instead of the “Tyin-in” I always thought it was? I already know from tumblr that Alinua is supposed to be pronounced something like Ah-LIN-wah, not Ah-lee-NEW-ah like I first thought, but Vash? Vash? What else have I gotten wrong?
Okay, that’s it. Red, we need a pronunciation guide or I’m going to go insane. Please?
I believe the closest thing we have to a pronouciation guide is the fandub, as it works with red, but it hasn’t gotten past chap 3 i don’t think. but yeah, vash is pronounced as rhyming with thrash in the dub as far as I recall.
Honestly, I didn’t think too hard about pronunciation but it’s a good question. My mind chose the Vash pronunciation (a like mario, not like apple) because it seemed to fit the idea of “god” at the time, and i always think of it sounding like “vast”, but that has two pronunciations which use the same kinds of “a”s. As for Tynan, I’m stuck between “TEE-nan” and “TEEYI-nan” with the second syllable like the second syllable of present and listen (y’know, the one vowel sound that makes “listening” only have one n and that i don’t have enough knowledge to describe)
I say, ah – LIN – ah, cause ah – LIN – wah is stupid. Vash rhymes with thrash for me. I say tie – nin. Erin I pronounce no different from Aaron. (Though I hear some people say air – ron, so I say air – rin) for kendal I say like ken – dahl
I’ve known about Vash supposed to be rhyming with clash for a while now… but I always have and always will see it as pronounced with the ‘a’ sounding like the a in father.
As for Tynan, I pronounce that as Tie-nin, thanks to a battleship of the same name in The Expanse having that pronunciation.
Yes yes yes! The ‘a’ as in ‘father’ is exactly the sound I imagine in Vash’s name. The idea that Red might have intended anything else is so strange . . .
I pronounce Vash as /väʃ/, Alinua as /älinuä/, Tynan as /taɪnæn/, Kendal as /kɛndäl/, and Erin as /ɛɹɨn/. I’m not sure if that’s how they’re supposed to be pronounced like that (except Alinua, but I can’t get used to it being pronounced in any other way), but it works for me.
(I’m pretty sure I’m using the IPA right, but please correct me if I’m not!)
Vash: So, Tynan, Shadow of Thunder, how’d you get that title anyway?
Tynan: Gave it to myself, a real being of divine power choses their own name.
Vash: Well, pleased to meet you, Shadow of Thunder. I’m Galactic President Superstar McAwesomeville, and i’m gonna whoop yo Ass!
Sorry, but I’ve just got this image of Tynan’s cloud hair reaching all the way up to the storm Doug Dimmadome style and now I can’t take him seriously.
Really liking the pattern style of the swirls around Tynan in panels 2 and 3. The mixing symbolism of water, air and lightning magic all focused on him, showcasing his mastery of his entire being.
Tynan is good for a storytelling perspective, not only giving a bit of world building but also giving the heroes a more immediate threat to deal with. V.D. isn’t going anywhere so long as they stay clear of the caves, the Collector is still gathering data, and top Paladin will take a while to get here; an immediate enemy to the gang is needed to keep up the stakes.
Arghh! That’s it, I’m hunting you all down just to lock you in a room with some speakers hooked up to Magnus!
(but srsly, please listen to it, it’s really good)
I’m not far through enough to recognise any entities because there is no angler fish thing, no worms inside people, no strange coffin, and no window thing. Oh god now I’ve scared myself,
On the first page of chapter 4, Erin said that “Ravv Ainox” is the Ignan name for the Storm, so I think that the mysterious narrator is a god of the Ignans.
Ah whoops. I have an issue with being a little vague because I have a strange aversion to proper nouns. It makes me feel all weird when I type them so I tend to steer clear and confuse the heck out of everyone. I recently checked it out since I heard a lot of stuff about the show and I liked it. It was neat.
It’s got some flaws (I could do without the cultural appropriation in the episode with the guru, what with the chakras), but it’s still one of my favorite shows.
If you’re interested, there’s a YouTube channel called Overanalyzing Avatar, where he takes an in-depth look at each episode in the series and critiques them with a great sense of humor. He’s currently almost finished with season 1, and he puts out a new video on Tuesdays (or Wednesdays, depending on the time zone).
Yeah, pretty much any western media about not-western stuff badly messes things up. Shows how much we still have to learn about the world.
Even so, there are many shows that do worse and I’m glad this one isn’t *too* bad. I have seen a few overanalysis videos of various media and perhaps I’ll check it out. Thanks.
I have this old baby name book that my parents used, and in the section labeled for boys, I found the name “Tynan”. O.o
According to this book of names, it is an Irish name— meaning “dark”. O::
So, “Tynan, Shadow Of Thunder” is somewhat literally: “Dark, Shadow Of Thunder”. \o.o/
He’s a dangerous lad, with dangerous hair! XD
I wonder how exactly the “fear makes me stronger” thing works. o.O
Well, I’ve had two pranks so far. One was when Mom tried to trick me into eating dog food for breakfast, and the second one was when I watched the newest video from the RetroGamingNow Youtube channel, thinking it was an actual game theory video. For what I think about April Fool’s, I think it’s fun.
I used to be paranoid that some random dude would bust into my house and prank everyone. I would spend the day hiding in my room and hoping no one pranked me. I just don’t like surprises much (surprise parties, pranks, etc.). Now that everyone’s pretty much staying put and I’m doing school remotely, I feel a lot safer.
My sister put an onion outside my bedroom door, and a severed Barbie head on my bathroom sink. Her brand of April Fools seems to be “harmless chaos”, which I appreciate more than most other styles.
the alt text is right. i am sobbing
And the god wasn’t about to let a little rain ruin his day so kicked the storm’s butt
Red why did you have to remind us of Vash you’re breaking my heart
Can’t wait to see Vash thrash (hey that rhymed!) Tynan
Also Shadow of Thunder sounds pretty dang awesome
(Vash thrash some trash)
Vash VS Tynan Rap Battle
Vash:
Yo *beat*
I’m Va-Va-Va-Vash
*beat* I’m here to thra-ash
You! You piece of storm trash!
Tynan: “What… What is happening?”
See, it doesn’t work with Kendal, he could never win a rap battle.
Hey! There! My name is Kendal!
I’m! Here! To befriend all!
(oh god oh no, pls don’t kill me, Tynan, we can be friends, right?)
That reminds me of a song by Starbomb, where Ryu and Ken have a rap battle, and Ken is just too nice to dish anything out.

THERE’S A FANDUB?!
Honestly, I didn’t think too hard about pronunciation but it’s a good question. yeah Alinua is pronounced as Ah-LIN-wah iirc
Screw that, I see it as Uh-LEE-nu-uh.
Right? I know it’s supposed to be Ah-LIN-wah but Ah-LEE-new-uh just makes more sense and it’s so difficult to read it any other way.
I had it worse, I mixed up the letters at first, and now I’m untraining myself from ah-li-oo-na

I’m sorry, Red… but Vash rhyming with dash just sounds phonetically wrong to me…
I pronounce Vash as /väʃ/, Alinua as /älinuä/, Tynan as /taɪnæn/, Kendal as /kɛndäl/, and Erin as /ɛɹɨn/. I’m not sure if that’s how they’re supposed to be pronounced like that (except Alinua, but I can’t get used to it being pronounced in any other way), but it works for me.

luckily its a written medium and no one is ever gonna be able to correct you for pronouncing it however you want
Vash Mash
Trash
Vash: So, Tynan, Shadow of Thunder, how’d you get that title anyway?
Tynan: Gave it to myself, a real being of divine power choses their own name.
Vash: Well, pleased to meet you, Shadow of Thunder. I’m Galactic President Superstar McAwesomeville, and i’m gonna whoop yo Ass!
✨amazing✨
this is actually hilarious and totally something Vash would do 😀
Vash: Pleased to meet you, Tynan, Shadow of Thunder, my name is Vash, Kicker of Ass
Oh, this will be good X3
A disaster that grows the more attention it gets, this remindes me of the game Tyranny
We should make a game called “Tynanny”
Holy moly this is so flipping cool! Eeeeee!!!!!!!
Great, lore pages in the stories.

Tynan Dimmastorm, owner of the Terrordale Dimmastorm
yeah the stylized patterns around tynan on this and the last page are very nice
TL;DR: Fear of the storm spreads far and wide but people don’t seem to realize they’re just feeding it. Oh look. There’s that city from chapter 1.
again is no one else seeing the entities from the Magnus Archives in this?!? or am I just going crazy?
I don’t use names in my TL;DRs. Not do I know what reference I should be seeing. I am uncultured.
I don’t know. I’m very particular about what I like. My taste in stories tends to be unconventional.
Oops meant to be a reply to the person who wants everyone to listen to some… Thing they like.
All I know about the magnus archives are that Red loved them. so… no?
Same here
Arghh! That’s it, I’m hunting you all down just to lock you in a room with some speakers hooked up to Magnus!
(but srsly, please listen to it, it’s really good)
@Jexxica
So is it exclusively a sound-based series, or can I find some kind of transcript of the thing somewhere?
I’m not far through enough to recognise any entities because there is no angler fish thing, no worms inside people, no strange coffin, and no window thing. Oh god now I’ve scared myself,
Tynan feels like a natural consequence of the rules of magic set up in the story. Well done.
On the first page of chapter 4, Erin said that “Ravv Ainox” is the Ignan name for the Storm, so I think that the mysterious narrator is a god of the Ignans.
I was going to mention her use of the name; that’s some good continuity.
Then Vash punched the storm guy in the face and did a backflip THE END how’s Chapter 13 looking?
I have just remembered that Storm Dude’s name is Tynan
1. Tynan he/it pronouns?
2. Isn’t Ravv Ainox a name for the Storm of Magic? Now I have to look up which culture it was
You probably already know, but somebody above said it was Ignan. Well, it wasn’t Somebody, it was actually _maybe. … I’ll leave now
It’s actually really sad to see Vash (the city) again. I’m pretty sure that’s what the alt text is about.
The god did a backflip, snapped the bad guy’s neck, and saved the day.
Yes, another Ryan George fan, I see.
WELCOME TO THE THUNDER DOME!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
TODAY WE HAVE TYMNAN ARE RAINING CHAMPION VS VASH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
(You see What i did there)
“Welcome, to Earth Rumble Six! I am your host, Shin Fu!”
You are a fan aren’t you, TheUnknownGame?
…Forgive me, as your meaning flew over my head… A fan of what, exactly?
Avatar. The TV show about some bald guy with a staff.
Yes; I wasn’t sure if you meant that, or ER6 specifically for some reason, or this comic due to how much I comment…
Ah whoops. I have an issue with being a little vague because I have a strange aversion to proper nouns. …Okay, “The storm that would be king” is a really cool epithet.
Indeed, he would have been king, had Vash not beaten him.
Tynan would look pretty scary if his cloudy hair didn’t look like BLUE COTTON CANDY!
I cry
(Head pat)
I have this old baby name book that my parents used, and in the section labeled for boys, I found the name “Tynan”. O.o

Off topic: genuine thoughts about April Fool’s?
Well, I’ve had two pranks so far.
