GODDAMNIT ZUURITH! KENDAL WAS FINALLY GETTING SOME DOWNTIME!!! On the other hand, if this goes south, guess we know which one is ending up in the prison.
Please let us have all 4 meet up in Prison to exchange ‘What are you in for?’ stories. I love the idea that everyone at the prison cafeteria table already knows each other and just lost contact for about 2 hours.
It evolved from “press F to pay respects,” a widely derided bit of dialogue in a COD game when your character is attending a funeral. “F” became a common semi-ironic saying when something went wrong, most especially on Twitch. It started being used less as irony and more as genuine sympathy, and streamers asking for an “F in chat” when something went wrong became a common practice.
Some video game that featured a segment where the player character attends a funeral, and a button prompt appears that says, “Press F to pay respects.” It was ridiculous enough that it became a meme.
Correct. Just most of them are. I have made YA song (sang to the tune of Shaman King opening) that covers the prevalent trashy themes.
Look around you, look beyond,
You can make an unbreakable bond,
The world around you is not what it seems,
it’s all revealed beyond your wildest dreams!
So many things I never could see,
So many choices falling on me,
Could it be my destiny,
to be The One?
If your spirit is strong,
You could be the one!
I could look at the world in a different light,
And I know what it takes to make it right!
And I won’t give up the fight, to be The One!
i wonder what is Kendal’s thoughts on the book, tho
but OH NO ZUURITH FOUND OUT
but also the way Zuurith wanted to have a word with them was so anti-climatic, it wasn’t dramatic lol
Hello, emissary. It has come to my attention that the vessel of Vash has arrived within my city. If you would, kindly contact him and request that he make an appointment with me between noon and 3 PM.
Yours in divinity
Zurith
I was about to ask if there was a translation for the title of the book Kendal was reading…
Then I read the alt text hahaha
Wonder what the book’s title and plot is about…
Me. I missed a lot of them before I realised that if you tap and hold on the comic a menu will come up. Tap on the title/alt text and you will be able to view the alt text even if it’s long.
I’m fairly sure we can’t though, since tapping also brings you to the next page, so tapping and holding brings up the page you would next go to, uh…
It’s hard to explain, but from my experience, it does not show the alt-text
Everyone talking about Kendal reading and I’m just admiring that sunset from his window.
I figured Zuurith wouldn’t just incarnate inside another city god’s embassy, as a god of the law there is a due process to observe.
Kendal’s face in the fifth panel, he knew this was inevitable. Still the fact Zuurith is sending one of his emissaries to fetch him implies this is going to be civil, plus Kendal is less rash than Vash. Still, it keeps us guessing as to who of the group gets in trouble first.
Also, just to add, I like Pryder, cute, polite and some amazing freckles. Wait till they find out that such an inquiry is one of the least strange to make when it comes to this group.
It’s a negotiation tactic. Well, I use the word ‘negotiation’ loosely in this context. Zuurith is not going to go to Kendal, because it’s his city and he’s in charge. Instead, he’s bringing Kendal to him.
Honestly, though, there’s still a bit of nuance to explore in Kendal and Zuurith’s dynamic, which I’m interested in. Zuurith sees himself as the embodiment of law, so I wonder if he won’t imprison Kendal on the grounds that he hasn’t commited any real crime yet. I mean, I know that Zuurith’s definitely a bad guy, but I wonder if his commitment to law and order is more important to him than his own agenda, I guess?
I think it is. This is the preemptive “I’m watching you because I expect trouble, and if you put one toe out of line mister” meeting.
wait. I just had a hilarious thought. Erin, his privelage broken, is sitting outside the temple distraught. Kendal and Zuurith emissary arrive with a message from Zuurith saying the floof gang is actually doing something important, and requesting that a researcher compile the information they need and bring it to them, this keeping within the rule of no non paladins in the paladin liabrary, but still helping the floof gang in their quest to have the world not end, because it’s really bad for law and order to have so many unresolved world ending threats at once, so let’s try and take care of them.
I mean, probably not, I’m expecting Zuurith to be a bad guy, with jail break scene happening at some point, but still. It’d be funny if socially awkward humble Kendal swoops in to rescue Mr. Hubris from a diplomatic incident.
This would be awesome. I’d definitely enjoy that kind of twist and it is possible with a lawful evil bad guy or lawful neutral bad guy with conflicting/opposing agendas.
Okay, I have a theory. So Zuurith is obsessed with order, and the Collector seems like a pretty big upset to order. So, I think that once Zuurith hears Kendal’s story, he might be able to put their past grievances aside and focus on the bigger threat, because he doesn’t seem like the type to let someone that could potentially wreck havoc on his city run around freely.
After reading the original book, Kendal tells Erin thar he really liked it and asks to read those “fanfictions” the mage mentioned once. There is an awkward pause before Erin picks up his notebook and swallows it whole.
Zer0 W0lf and Mat mentioned a few comments above that the book is called “Sirena and the moon dragons”. I think Red said it on tumblr, but I don’t have a link to it
Very good analysis though!
I know the alt-text says it’s a YA novel or something, but I think it’d be hilarious if it were this world’s version of a Gideon Bible, seeing how they are basically in a hotel
*What I think is going to happen*
Zuurith: Do these belong to you? (pointing to Falst)
Falst: in our defense we were left unsupervised
Vash: Weren’t Alinua and Erin with you
Alinua and Erin: In our defence we were also left unsupervised
Seeing as Kendal hasn’t actually moved from the chair (or even indicated anything along the lines of ‘come in’), the visitor clearly knocked, and then opened the door regardless of what was on the other side.
Well, I suppose it would be more accurate to say English, but I chose the word British since it doesn’t refer to the language which could be confused with American English, but to a distinct geographical region, even if it could refer to English, Welsh, Scottish, or Northern Irish territories.
A central administration cathedral. We saw the outside of one in the opening picture of Vash… now, we’ll finally get to see what one looks like on the inside.
This is probably the exact question he was waiting for in that room. If Zuurith is the embodiment of law, this is probably a textbook scenario for talking to the previously inhabited form of a political rival. I wouldn’t be surprised if laws were made for this exact scenario.
I doubt it, Ilia says in 1-7-8 that Kendal is unprecedented, I get the feeling nothing like Kendal has ever happened before.
I guess it may be partially due to the nature of Vash’s incarnations, from the lore Red posts on tumblr Vash opts to making a very solid self-maintaining body so he doesn’t have to focus on keeping it intact. So while the incarnated bodies of other gods taken by the Collector would fall to pieces Vash’s remained intact.
It must really suck to be an emissary for a god like Zuurith. Even if you don’t want to, you have to help maintain a social system that basically boils down to penal slavery. Especially if your born the law emissary.
This kind of tastes like a gangster movie. “Why hello, lieutenant of my boss’s rival. My boss is curious how you happen to be in his territory. Let’s take a ride…”
I put 30% odds on Erin furiously bursting into Zuurith’s inner sanctum, demanding to be allowed into the paladin’s library, in the middle of his meeting with Kendal. (And 40% odds on Alinua restraining him with vines to stop him from doing that.)
I’ve always thought that fantasy universe fantasy novels would be tales of our world (or something significantly similar to it). Kendal is all “Of course they knock on the door just as Bailey’s about to bring her notes and the homework assignment to Ashley, who’s home sick with something called strep throat.
I imagine Kendal can probably read, the same way he can talk. Something Vash absorbed from his people and left imprinted on the body when he was abducted out of it. I’m sure gods like Asera would send lengthy scrolls for treaties etc., and Vash doesn’t seem the type to rely wholly on the reading of his Political Emissary.
The Diplomatic Emissary arrives shortly after the foreign dignitary and the Primordial Vessel leave. Yip, the local god was watching, but seems to want to be civil.
GODDAMNIT ZUURITH! KENDAL WAS FINALLY GETTING SOME DOWNTIME!!! On the other hand, if this goes south, guess we know which one is ending up in the prison.
Erin and Kendal both. Falst and Alinua will have to break them out with a certain spunky new friend’s help, haha
Please let us have all 4 meet up in Prison to exchange ‘What are you in for?’ stories. I love the idea that everyone at the prison cafeteria table already knows each other and just lost contact for about 2 hours.
That is funny, I bet Erin will be in for a heist on the paladin archive and chaos ensues from there
Falst is in there simply because of his association to Erin, and is VERY salty about it.
Shikkarasu, oh, gad, I would have loved that beat. I’m going to probably spend the rest of the week trying to figure out how to steal it
F in the chat
F
F
F
F
F
Where did “F in the chat” come from?
It evolved from “press F to pay respects,” a widely derided bit of dialogue in a COD game when your character is attending a funeral. “F” became a common semi-ironic saying when something went wrong, most especially on Twitch. It started being used less as irony and more as genuine sympathy, and streamers asking for an “F in chat” when something went wrong became a common practice.
THANK YOU. I’ve been wondering where the “F in the chat” thing came from for forever!
Some video game that featured a segment where the player character attends a funeral, and a button prompt appears that says, “Press F to pay respects.” It was ridiculous enough that it became a meme.
It was from a Call of Duty game. I think it was Advanced Warfare.
OH MY GOD IT’S THE TRASHY YA NOVELS!!
Not all YA fantasy adventure novels are inherently trashy!
Correct. Just most of them are. I have made YA song (sang to the tune of Shaman King opening) that covers the prevalent trashy themes.
Look around you, look beyond,
You can make an unbreakable bond,
The world around you is not what it seems,

I could look at the world in a different light,

And I won’t give up the fight, to be The One!
I don’t have that reference, but this seems to sum it up perfectly.
I applaud you for having an entire song ready sdaafjfdsj
That song is way to good for being created only to bring up trashy ya tropes
I’m so excited
Well, that was fast.
i wonder what is Kendal’s thoughts on the book, tho
but OH NO ZUURITH FOUND OUT
but also the way Zuurith wanted to have a word with them was so anti-climatic, it wasn’t dramatic lol
Yeah I was not expecting him to be this polite about it.
At the same time to too suprising that a deity very into law and order would not just pop in at random but follow through with protocols.
Hello, emissary. It has come to my attention that the vessel of Vash has arrived within my city. If you would, kindly contact him and request that he make an appointment with me between noon and 3 PM.

Zurith
I love this. Thanks for the laugh.
I was about to ask if there was a translation for the title of the book Kendal was reading…
Then I read the alt text hahaha
Wonder what the book’s title and plot is about…
By Mat on the Aurora Fan Server:
“For those curious, the cover reads
SIRENA AND THE MOON DRAGONS”
Ohh cool, thanks!
It’s called “Sirena and the Moon Dragons”. I don’t quite remember the plot, but Red’s posted a summary on the Tumblr several months ago.
Thanks for the info, I was able to find the post about it!
Could you link the post?
https://comicaurora.tumblr.com/post/651498357278294016/hey-you-mentioned-erin-is-big-into-a
I was in shock when Zuurith wants to talk to Kendal
(The book is a YA fantasy adventure novel Erin is really into) OOOOh can I borrow it please!?
Btw, does anyone else read on a mobile and so misses the alt text most of the time?
Huh. Maybe it’s different for different browsers or operating systems
Mind if you share a link to it? I can’t seem to find it.
uh oh
my first thought was literally just:
Kendal: hahaha
Kendal: i can’t read.
someone please help!
My second thought was just Kendal learning about fantasy tropes and applying them to situations he doesn’t have any other plan for
yes yes yes genre savvy Kendal good
I’m starting to like this Zuurith fellow, so polite!
Looks out window at massive prison in the background
Yeah… polite
Everyone talking about Kendal reading and I’m just admiring that sunset from his window.
I figured Zuurith wouldn’t just incarnate inside another city god’s embassy, as a god of the law there is a due process to observe.

well that didn’t take long at all
(at least this seems chill so far)
Oh dear. This is gonna be interesting.
TL;DR: I thought you were NOT supposed to open the door, especially to associates of your enemy…
After reading the original book, Kendal tells Erin thar he really liked it and asks to read those “fanfictions” the mage mentioned once. There is an awkward pause before Erin picks up his notebook and swallows it whole.
I did a thing and basically the book cover says
Sirena
Aidne
Moon (sh maybe)
The rest is covered by Kendal’s hand
I could be wrong, please let me know
Update: I did a doughnut and didn’t see it wasn’t covered in the first panel
Bottom text says dragons
Zer0 W0lf and Mat mentioned a few comments above that the book is called “Sirena and the moon dragons”. I think Red said it on tumblr, but I don’t have a link to it
Very good analysis though!
I know the alt-text says it’s a YA novel or something, but I think it’d be hilarious if it were this world’s version of a Gideon Bible, seeing how they are basically in a hotel
The chapel is very nice rather too art deco to match everything else. I was expecting a more gothic or baroque aesthetic.
*What I think is going to happen*
Zuurith: Do these belong to you? (pointing to Falst)
Falst: in our defense we were left unsupervised
Vash: Weren’t Alinua and Erin with you
Alinua and Erin: In our defence we were also left unsupervised
I made to many errors while making this
Oh damn, in-universe fiction?
IN-UNIVERSE TROPE-FILLED YA FICTION!?
It’s just like Disco Elysium!
Seeing as Kendal hasn’t actually moved from the chair (or even indicated anything along the lines of ‘come in’), the visitor clearly knocked, and then opened the door regardless of what was on the other side.
Basically, “FBI, don’t move!” vibes, except marginally more polite.
“FBI! We’d like a word, thank you very much!”
So basically, the FBI but British.
When you say British, do you mean English, or are you actually referring to any of the countries on the island of Britain?
Well, I suppose it would be more accurate to say English, but I chose the word British since it doesn’t refer to the language which could be confused with American English, but to a distinct geographical region, even if it could refer to English, Welsh, Scottish, or Northern Irish territories.
A central administration cathedral. We saw the outside of one in the opening picture of Vash… now, we’ll finally get to see what one looks like on the inside.
How did I just notice there is now a world map
What happens when you select “Continents” map mode in Civ V
It actually looks similar to the first custom map I made in Civ VI.
Well, there are less polite ways to get arrested.
A PERFECTLY NORMAL QUESTION
This is probably the exact question he was waiting for in that room. If Zuurith is the embodiment of law, this is probably a textbook scenario for talking to the previously inhabited form of a political rival. I wouldn’t be surprised if laws were made for this exact scenario.

Well, there is no way for this to go wrong.
Pryder looks like the stars and I love it!
Yes, is there an elf ethnicity breakdown on Tumblr or something? Because I want to know where Pryder is from and the history of her people!
So much for laying low
Side note, the last panel is really pretty. Those colors!
It must really suck to be an emissary for a god like Zuurith. Even if you don’t want to, you have to help maintain a social system that basically boils down to penal slavery. Especially if your born the law emissary.
On the other hand, if that’s your society, it may seem normal or even good to you.
I love this Pryder fellow’s color scheme UwU
I wouldn’t be surprised if the trashy YA novel is one he wrote and used his privilege to publish. It’s a blatant self-insert power fantasy.
Foolish Protagonist! If you don’t want to go to the plot, then the plot can very well go to you!
Poor kendal, he tried to lay low XD
You fool, do you really think that your protagonist vibes would be undetected
He knooooooows!
wait where’s Somebody?
Oh, they’re around.
Ooooo a dark elf!
In my head, instead of ‘Former Vessel,” I keep referring to him as godsflesh.
This kind of tastes like a gangster movie. “Why hello, lieutenant of my boss’s rival. My boss is curious how you happen to be in his territory. Let’s take a ride…”
Could you link the post please?
Shoot this was supposed to be a reply to something, ignore this
So, uh, unrelated but imagine
Falst with a cockney accent
Kendal with a cockney accent
ERIN WITH A COCKNEY ACCENT
EVERYBODY WITH A COCKNEY ACCENT
I want Pryder’s aesthetic almost as much as I obligatorily want Erin’s
I put 30% odds on Erin furiously bursting into Zuurith’s inner sanctum, demanding to be allowed into the paladin’s library, in the middle of his meeting with Kendal. (And 40% odds on Alinua restraining him with vines to stop him from doing that.)

I love that idea.
Nice temple ya got there, be a shame if, something were to, HAPPEN TO IT…
Is no one going to acknowledge how pretty the emissary’s character design is?
Alt text: (the book is a YA fantasy adventure novel Erin is really into)
That’s not good
So back to the old question: can Kendal read or is he just pretending to and looks at the pictures?
I imagine Kendal can probably read, the same way he can talk. Something Vash absorbed from his people and left imprinted on the body when he was abducted out of it. I’m sure gods like Asera would send lengthy scrolls for treaties etc., and Vash doesn’t seem the type to rely wholly on the reading of his Political Emissary.
OMG PRETTY ELF PERSON AHHH HOW THE FUCK DID ZUURITH GET THEM AS AN EMISSARY THEIR SOOOOOO PRETTY
The Diplomatic Emissary arrives shortly after the foreign dignitary and the Primordial Vessel leave. Yip, the local god was watching, but seems to want to be civil.
We alled it
