Also it looks like Kendal is having some sort of vision? In the second to last panel we see in the background a flashback to what I think is Vash Fighting the Collector. I think he’s reaching for the sword not as a weapon but to be closer to Vash.
His ‘excuse me’ seems almost like what you’d say if you got a phone call mid-conversation
Kendal: “‘scuse me, gotta take this call, its from Vash”
Kendal: *takes out sword, just stares at it, eyes glow blue*
Kendal: “mhm… uhuh… yep, ok.. sure thing, Vash.”

The real question: is he reaching for his sword so he can fight, his hair tie, or his sword so he can cut off the hair tie, releasing the majectic floof of hair.

… Sad thing is the magistrate’s suspicion is pretty well founded given that logical reasoning.
TL;DR: Magistrate-Floof is skeptical of Vash-corpse-floof’s story, and Life-floof’s fake backstory happens to match that of someone who might accidentally a bunch of chimeras. They start yelling, but Blond-floof gets a call and has to interrupt.

The GUTS of this man to be grilling a life mage standing by a friend with a sword and not-too-indirectly accusing them of being god-killers. ..And god-killers that would presumably desiring to not be discovered.
