Stopping the VD is his priority, if that means killing a few innocents it’s worth it since without his intervention VD will kill many more (at least, that appears to be Michael’s reasoning, although I suspect rn he’s being emotional and not actively thinking things through, he does appear to have put all his points into str and cha)
That doesn’t look healthy for the mast. At this rate, the ship is rapidly moving towards “snapped toothpick stuck in a crumpled-up wad of tin foil” territory.
Erin’s notes to the boat’s creator: it was rapidly discovered that the total number of primordial, divine, and elemental avatars the ship could safely contain at one time was less than six.
I think the sixth would be Tess. The circumstances she acquired her lightning powers seem to point more towards that, rather than her heing just a regular lightning mage, methinks
This is incredibly speculative. We know that Tess is a special case among Metal Caste, but not so special that being Chosen By The Sky wasn’t a thing before her. There’s no evidence that she’s hosting a Primordial, and frankly, I hope she isn’t. The same with Dainix.
@Veggiesnake (replying seems impossible at this level) They said “Primordial, divine, and elemental avatars”. Considering the primordials are also the embodiments of the elements, I think this distinction between primordial and elemental may have been made to separate Alinua, arguably an avatar of a primordial, from Tess and Dainix, who just have an extremely powerful connection to their own elements.
They also said “less than six”, which means not six. Especially if this is a note made by Erin, who is an academic, “less than six” means the same thing as “five or less”.
Erin’s notes: The framework was unable to stand up to a fight between an incarnation of Vash and an avatar of the Light Dragon. Maybe work on that next time
Tarren: what HAPPENED on your TRIP
(Voidy) note to self: my avatar is a lot dumber than I thought. Also note to self: need to be more careful about paladins. And the one with no ME in it is a lot mote useful than I thought.
From 2.1.30
Erin: And really – thanks. I’ll take good care of her.
Tarren: Oh, please. I already know I’m not getting her back.”
Of course, that was more because they thought Erin wouldn’t have the patience to bring it back, not because they expected it not to survive the trip. And it’s still got a chance of surviving – Alinua can probably patch up the mast with some plant growth (strategically-placed vines should hold it together), and broken lacrimas can be replaced. Although I don’t know how well it will deal with getting shipwrecked on a volcanic island (which has to be what’s coming, but we’ll see).
It’s a good thing this isn’t anime, or else I’d fear Falst would just stand there and commentate instead of helping.
Good news: looks like Erin is still lying on the floor next to Alinua on panel 3. I guess that while the diadem is holding Erin where he is physically, the fact he isn’t unconscious means Erin can still keep V.D. at bay. For now at least.
Bad news: looking at the bottom left corner of panel 4, the Champion slamming Kendal into the mast has caused it to break and splinter a bit. It’s going to fall, isn’t it? And one of the party members is going to be in its path, aren’t they?
Hmm, Kendal could just be head-butting because it’s a good attack in this context, or he might be deliberately targeting the Champion’s crown in an attempt to stop the diadem spell. I’m betting on the later; Kendal doesn’t want to harm the Champion, he just wants him to stop his attack.
That’s also what I thought: headbutt is targeting the Diadem, solid maneuver for a demigod with a hard head. I love Kendal’s hard, determined expression right before the headbutt, too, and the fight choreography in general.
I didn’t catch the splinter detail, but you’re right! Oh dear. That does not bode well. I wonder if Falst is queued up to intervene somehow, though, maybe by trying to get the others out of the way…
If it comes down to a battle of endurance, Kendal’s got the Michael beat, and he knows it. Michael’s tanked a fair bit of damage so far, but I don’t think he can stand up to a god’s war vessel with literal starmetal bones. Kendal can afford to take chances with less lethal moves, and I’m sure he’d like to avoid a killing blow if he can.
He doesn’t take out the sword if he isn’t willing to use it, though. If Michael puts one of the Floof Gang in Serious Mortal Danger(tm)…say, by nearly crushing them with a very large spar of wood? I think he’s going to find himself on the defensive VERY quickly.
(…and I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t hoping that he gets a liiiiittle bit of an ass-kicking.)
Looks like Erin won’t get his deposit back for the boat rental. ^_^
And now Kendal is starting to look annoyed. With a nice *clunk* to the head, Mikey should need to make a ‘concentration check’. If his spell breaks, that will give the others a chance to ALSO punch him in the face.
Yeah, powered by a water lacrima… attached to the mast. Although it’s conveniently out of view in this page, so it remains to be seen how operational it is.
Maybe that will help Mikie rethink things. No? (Pleazzze don’t tell me it’s fine Red! This is the time to panic for us excitable folks! EEEEE!) (Kendal and Falst can do the heroic thinking,,,)
It feels odd that he thinks Kendal is a killer homunculus designed by the Void Dragon’s avatar and still feels compelled to demand he yield. Paladins gonna paladin, I guess.
Let’s ask the gods what the difference between a body guard and killer is!
Vash: it’s like how saying a wyvern and dragon are one and the same isn’t entirely correct. Yes all wyverns are dragons but not all dragons are wyverns. So following that logic all bodyguards are killers but not all killers are bodyguards… that sounded better in my head. I also might be wrong.
Asera: bodyguard (noun): an individual or group of individuals hired to escort and protect another individual, especially a dignitary.
Killer (noun): an individual or thing that kills
Proceeds into 30 minute long analysis on every difference between the two.
Tynan:What’s a bodyguard?
Caliban: Not my problem if you can’t figure it out (also does not know the difference)
Tahraim: (insert vague and mildly ominous smithing metaphor that I was too lazy to come up with)
Zuurith: One will have you imprisoned. The other will not.
Argist: Sips tea. To expand on Vash’s point and simplify Asera’s yes the term bodyguard overlaps with the term killer often but many killers are not bodyguards and not all bodyguards use killing as their way of defending. Furthermore killer implies a somewhat cruel person who might kill for fun even if that is not the strict definition which isn’t what a bodyguard would imply as that is a job indicating that a bodyguard doesn’t do it for fun.
Pally the Paladin gets up after that hit sayin “When Captain America throws his mighty shield…All those who chose to oppose his shield must yield”
Yes, this is both an Avengers AND an 8 Bit Theater reference.
A vampire! Though I was originally considering just wearing my Christmas pajamas and dressing up as the worst monster of all. The people who put up Christmas decorations before Halloween.
Saying ‘2.0’ already implies that it’s a new version, so saying ‘2.0 version’ is redundant. Instead, try something more along the lines of, ‘better start on metal boat 2.0’.
This is not supposed to be mean or haha I’m better than you, I just hate grammatical errors with a burning passion. 🙂
That’s not a grammatical error, and regardless, academic-standard grammar isn’t expected in fun fantasy webcomic comments. It’s more common to see “version 2.0” than “the 2.0 version,” so maybe that’s why it felt weird for you to read.
From my understanding, he has mostly fought mindless cave crawlers and other nasties, most intelligent people he can just make fall to the floor with the diadem. And paladins wouldn’t have wanted to hurt him. Also, actually fighting someone who is just as fast and strong if not stronger than him with the ability to plan and think tactically, and use actual skill is probably new to him.
Ohh… That’s gonna hurt till next Tuesday. But THAT’S your fault Michael. Note,NEVER LUNGE HEADFIRST INTO A FIGHT WITH KENDAL, ask the last person who did that how they’re feeling
Do you count the glort as a person? It probably used to be one, right? In any case there’s not much of it left after Kendal’s starfire got to it (1-22-59)
NOOOOO I discovered the this like 3 weeks ago and binged it since! I’m not ready to wait for it!
but nevertheless, each and every panel has been beatiful
Welcome to Aurora where every other Friday causes increased screaming and if the screaming (regulars less of what emotion(s) it’s screamed in) stops then everything has become far worse than you’d ever believe.
For mobile readers.

Mike, would it hurt you not to sink these “innocents'” boat?
Stopping the VD is his priority, if that means killing a few innocents it’s worth it since without his intervention VD will kill many more (at least, that appears to be Michael’s reasoning, although I suspect rn he’s being emotional and not actively thinking things through, he does appear to have put all his points into str and cha)

Erin’s notes to the boat’s creator: it was rapidly discovered that the total number of primordial, divine, and elemental avatars the ship could safely contain at one time was less than six.
Wait, who’s the sixth one? Kendal, Alinua, Dainix, Erin, and Michael…
To be fair, the demon was also known to Dainix’ people. Stormbreakers could be just as rare.
@Veggiesnake (replying seems impossible at this level) They said “Primordial, divine, and elemental avatars”. @Trisha Well, Dainix isn’t connected to Elemental Fire either. He’s not a mage at all. Soulfire is something else entirely, but I do see your point.
There goes the water lacrima. Tarren’s ship is really taking a beating lol.
I mean, I assume they knew what it was in for when they lent it to Erin of all people XD
From 2.1.30
Erin: And really – thanks. I’ll take good care of her.

Now just awaiting the “And here comes Falst with the steel chair!” moment.
I now have Wakfu flashbacks
stop I thought the same thing
They won’t stop, they can’t stop…
It’s a good thing this isn’t anime, or else I’d fear Falst would just stand there and commentate instead of helping.

Yeah, that was my first thought: we don’t usually see Kendal brawl like this. Then it dawned on me that he’s still focusing on the Diadem.
…my second was, “…that’s gonna fall on Erin and Alinua, isn’t it.”
That’s also what I thought: headbutt is targeting the Diadem, solid maneuver for a demigod with a hard head. I love Kendal’s hard, determined expression right before the headbutt, too, and the fight choreography in general.

If you look at panel three, the mast is actually bent into an angle. I may not know a lot about ships, but I’m pretty sure that’s bad.
Assumin LD isn’t the one doing the actual casting
He watches the fray as the champion crashes
Brave Kendal against the mast,
Yelling yield. Kendal crashes
Their heads together fast.
The Feline watches the battle rage on
The smashes, the cracks, and the storm still not gone
Michel is about to sink the ship and kill all the “inoccents” on board.
How about a second headbutt?
Welp luckily the boat moves trought magical means
Yeah, powered by a water lacrima… attached to the mast. Although it’s conveniently out of view in this page, so it remains to be seen how operational it is.
The water Lacrima calms the waves, the boat moviment is powered by a Wind lacrima on the helm
Aaand Falst is back in the fight! Hell yeah! Go kick Mike’s shiny magic arse, Falst!
Also, a new page just in time for my birthday. How nice
Go steer the ship to safety, Falst!
Happy birthday!

Aurora Question #14: How many Happy Birthday’s do you think Captain Cutlet will get in total?
Also, Happy Birthday! Hope it went well
Happy birthday,have a good one
Happi Birthdai fren
That’s a star metal reinforced scull-crack to the head… owwww….
if Michael were anyone else he’d be out cold.
Notes on the boat design “not stronger than world shaking battles between very powerful individuals”
I feel like falst is going to help Kendal, but now would be a really good time to help the others.
Or to…yknow take the ship to helm while it floats?
It’s 5 am, I only missed this by 2 hours! Yay! Next time maybe I’ll be up at 3 to catch it!
Go Kendal go! Use those metal bones!
I wonder, can he can rip apart the diadems holding back the rest of the party?
I mean he could but
he wouldn’t just for a bit of fun
How strong/tough is the paladin? He seems to be tanking Kendal’s attacks, but Kendal is probably still holding back, so it is hard to tell.
He may have a passive regen.
Well…he’s already shown himself to be pretty hardheaded…
Maybe that will help Mikie rethink things. No? (Pleazzze don’t tell me it’s fine Red! This is the time to panic for us excitable folks! EEEEE!) (Kendal and Falst can do the heroic thinking,,,)
It feels odd that he thinks Kendal is a killer homunculus designed by the Void Dragon’s avatar and still feels compelled to demand he yield. Paladins gonna paladin, I guess.
He doesnt think that Kendal is a killer homunculus, he thinks he is a bodyguard made by erin, he Said so a few Pages ago
Isn’t that the same thing?
Let’s ask the gods what the difference between a body guard and killer is!

Ferin god: There is no difference.
That’s probably pretty accurate…
Just to be clear, I was commenting on the difference between a homunculus and an Erin-made bodyguard
oh i didn’t mean to say that he didn’t think that kendal was a homunculus, i meant that he doesn’t think he was made by the void dragon
OH NO THE MAST
Pally the Paladin gets up after that hit sayin “When Captain America throws his mighty shield…All those who chose to oppose his shield must yield”
Yes, this is both an Avengers AND an 8 Bit Theater reference.
Okay, it’s time to fuck him up. All that about ‘innocents’ and look you now, Michael. Casually tearing apart a ship in a storm.
Happy (almost) Halloween! If anyone’s wearing a costume, what are you going to be?
I plan to be an elf with cool swords
FIREBENDER
IM GONNA BE A PIRATE!!!!!!!!!! >: D
A vampire! Though I was originally considering just wearing my Christmas pajamas and dressing up as the worst monster of all. The people who put up Christmas decorations before Halloween.
Tarren back at the port city: (“my shit is getting fucked up” senses go off)
Tarren: Well, guess I’d better start on the 2.0 version…
If I might grammar check you-
Saying ‘2.0’ already implies that it’s a new version, so saying ‘2.0 version’ is redundant. Instead, try something more along the lines of, ‘better start on metal boat 2.0’.

Sorry, you’re right. I didn’t mean for that to read as mean. Enjoy your halloween!!
Thanks, I hope you do too!
I wonder how experienced fighting actual trained fighters this guy is, something tells me the answer is “not enough”
TL;DR: Cat watches the bulls headbutt.
That was a helluva hit! Let’s wait and see if Mister or Miss Champion can make their concentration check!
I think it would be Mister Champion because the character page says his pronouns are he/him
Uh oh
They were talking earlier about if Kendle needs to breathe or not. Is he going to get tossed overboard and test that theory?
I give this shirt about…ten more panels, give or take.
Head to the head *whoosh* *bonk*
Light dragon avatar: Yield!
Kendal: Buddy we haven’t even STARTED
Ohh… That’s gonna hurt till next Tuesday. But THAT’S your fault Michael. Note,NEVER LUNGE HEADFIRST INTO A FIGHT WITH KENDAL, ask the last person who did that how they’re feeling
Well… he can’t. Seeing as the last person to foght Kendal I believe was Tynan, who is currently imprisoned in a dagger
Do you count the glort as a person? It probably used to be one, right? In any case there’s not much of it left after Kendal’s starfire got to it (1-22-59)
NOOOOO I discovered the this like 3 weeks ago and binged it since! I’m not ready to wait for it!

Welcome to Aurora where every other Friday causes increased screaming and if the screaming (regulars less of what emotion(s) it’s screamed in) stops then everything has become far worse than you’d ever believe.
Will anyone comment on the fact that Alinua is yamcha posing
Well you just did, sooo…
Respect for paying attention to the smallest details
~~and it all comes tumbling down, on this vessel that we lo-o-o-o-ove…
grey clouds roll over the sky bringing Michael from abo-o-o-o-ove…~
did this page remind anyone else of the song Pompeii?
I have now! Also your name is the best here and I will be taking no criticisms of that statement at this time.
bonk
I don’t think he’s yielding guys
