Alinua looks very vulnerable and sincere and uncertain. She makes me want to hug her and tell her it will be OK, even if its not! But I am sure Life could help her understand or at least give her a hint.
I am ever-more amused at the reverse Achilles Kendal and Ali are starting to pull.
They look and feel like the cutest, most wholesome couple you could imagine in fiction – respectful, supportive, caring.
But the text is abundantly clear – they are NOT. A. COUPLE. At most they are two lost kids that adopted one another.
i do love how outside of battle they’re both very kind and polite people, but in a fight, they’re an absolute menace of a duo. the most powerful life mage on the planet and a sentient war incarnation of a lost god, what a nightmare for the bad guys…
Second most powerful life mage. She’s not at the point of healing the primordials yet. Although, fixing water enroute and changing ocean travel forever in that region would be pretty funny.
Maybe she did make him into a chimera, and it turned out well – because chimera are turned against their nature, and Vash’s leftover body might have not had any particular nature – and then the “fixed” body was a beacon for whatever Kendal was before now. Or, (since we know that the light dragon originally gave humans sentience) maybe the light dragon stepped in and gave the body life? Because if void dragon wanted soulless puppets with no free will, then the leftover body of a god is a pretty nice gift.
While I’m on that thought – this is a long shot, but the iron cast people don’t have any sense of self or will until they are “sparked” – but depending on whether it is just redundant until then, or actually isn’t there, then maybe they are options for void dragon too?
I don’t think all of my theories are right, but if they are, then it looks like void dragon has a few too many options than let me rest well at night. Although, this is all irrelevant if void dragon is stuck in Erin’s body until he dies or void dragon dies.
God incarnations are made for divinity
Even if they’re not designed for simplicity
Kendal sans Vash would decay like a boneless hand
But then he was healed by a force no one understands
Hhh. I understand loving the comic and wanting to see more, but it’s discourteous to ask her for double updates. She’s already giving us beautiful pages every Monday/Wednesday/Friday, and that’s a LOT. Especially considering this is a passion project, shared for free, which we have no entitlement to, and she has a job aside from drawing this comic.
Not a retcon. Vash was awake, though captured and separated from the body. Kendal was briefly awake too and dying before Alinua healed him, and he’s remembering the state he was in.
Erin’s gonna be bummed he missed a lot of this.
Kendal’s had this suspicion for a while now, he even mentioned it to Zuurith during their brief conversation as to how he exists. I’ve had some thoughts that starmetal may be involved too, but I’m now wondering if that has more to do with his powers, soul, and sentience and Alinua’s magic is pulling the staying alive weight.
I’m sticking with my theory, along the same lines as @Jakalor’s comment, that Life herself had a hand in making Kendal the way he is. Alinua lost control for a long time without causing a plague event, tons of life energy was poured into him but resulted in no external mutations, Life’s higher property of adaptation/mutation is effectively “not dying”; I’m not certain if Life knowingly made Kendal the way he is or if it was instinctual, but she may have deliberately invested in Kendals survival. I wonder if she could do the same with a mage-made homunculus or if a catalyst like starmetal is needed.
Prediction for next week: A page or two more of this, maybe with more kind words to Alinua, before Erin comes in to tell the gang about the boat.
I have no doubt Erin has an entire chapter in his notebooks dedicated to observations on Kendal. Absolutely expecting him to come bursting into the room, similar to Tess, see the entire gang sitting rather morosely in the center of the room, and be like, “Okay. What did I miss.” Or better yet, “Oh no. What did we do NOW.”
I’m less certain how much influence Primordial Life had on Kendal’s creation, both because a) Alinua doesn’t seem to become their proper vessel until after the Sentinel thing b) Even if the gods can see Kendal, he may still be too “small” for them to really focus on? She may have a view of him now, settled as she is with Alinua, but at the time, I don’t think they’d have been able to focus properly on a single existence? Then again, she may have had a view of Kendal through the Collector…so…Hmm.
The concept of Kendal as a chimera is an interesting one, though. We know what ‘normal’ living things turn into as chimera, but Kendal’s organic form isn’t exactly normal. Alinua’s magic might have reacted very differently to a godly incarnation than a typical mortal body.
All I know for certain is that Erin will hit the roof that they’ve been testing hypotheses without him.
Sorry for repeating chunks of comment, but something I mentioned further up kinda relates to this?
Maybe she did make him into a chimera, and it turned out well – because chimera are turned against their nature, and Vash’s leftover body might have not had any particular nature – and then the “fixed” body was a beacon for whatever Kendal was before now. Or, (since we know that the light dragon originally gave humans sentience) maybe the light dragon stepped in and gave the body life? Because if void dragon wanted soulless puppets with no free will, then the leftover body of a god is a pretty nice gift.
It’s a good point! I was confused where the idea of the Light Dragon having a hand in Kendal’s existence came from, until I went waaaay back and realized the spark of light in the newly created humans’ eyes is very similar to Vash’s essence and the light that comes from Kendal…which may have nothing at all to do with anything, but I definitely understand what you were saying now! Particularly how the soulless body of a god might be a nice gift…Although if I understand right, the body doesn’t last real long without its ‘owners’ soul. Without Erin’s soul, his body would probably reject the Void Dragon’s and his body would die. The same thing would happen if the Void Dragon had a way to possess Vash’s incarnation before Kendal appeared…although the VD specifically needed an Elemental Magus.
Although I feel like I missed something — “repair the wound with water or stone”? I didn’t realize Vash could use the elements, other than the starfire. In fact, I never questioned at all how he managed to ‘repair’ his body up until now. And now I’m like, wait, how DOES that work?
There once was a body of Vash
Who should have disintegrated to ash,
But by Ali’s intervention,
Though beyond her intention,
He was healed of the fatal knife-slash.
Instead of FNAF, this MatPat’s best known for piecing together the lore from a series by Sennia. She deliberately makes it more convoluted to mess with him.
If only they had a smart guy in the group who has a wide base of knowledge of different elemental magics and other topics on the soul and mind and oh wait a minute
I’m getting the distinct impression in the 2nd panel that Alinua and Danix thought Kendal was going to try various different ways of dying to see what would work.
Then the ‘kinda’ to the side just cracked me up 🤭 🤣
(crawls out of the endless void that is university) If I had a nickel for every Aurora character I relate to a little too hard then Tarren has added a second nickel

sorry for stealing you job Zer0 W0lf
No problem. I was up at 12:50 AM, but somehow, I didn’t get here in time. Also, it’s “rip,” not “pip.”
There’s no “built,” either.
It’s their first day on the job. Go easy on them.
It’s “rip to Vash but I’m different”
Not pip and not built.
Tumblr text: speculations?
Twitter Text: I am a unique lifeform with uncertain abilities and limitations AMA
and built different means less drowning capabilities.
AND are we just going to ignore how Red was MatPat’s quote- just different- for the text thing?
Hmmmm… what did she do? Will the next page hold any answers?
Kendal reveals that Vash’s incarnations
Never lasted this long without Bash.
Alinua’s healing made something new,
Fixed more than the dagger’s slash.
You think that’s auto-correct gone wrong, but actually gods do maintenance by running Bash scripts.
Good one, @Ballad! Blame the gods, they won’t say you are wrong! (smile)
Well, it makes sense that they’d need to use the Bourne Again Shell…
Is bash a typo, or do you mean without being bashed?
i really like the way ali is drawn on this page specifically idk why
Because she’s cute, that’s why
She looks sincere, vulnerable and uncertain to me.
Alinua looks very vulnerable and sincere and uncertain. She makes me want to hug her and tell her it will be OK, even if its not! But I am sure Life could help her understand or at least give her a hint.
Falst’s “maybe” had me rolling. I mean, in general he’s just been my absolute favorite this chapter
That girl needs to get more self-confidence still. But hey, growth is an ever-ongoing process.
So, I’d bet that Life saw Kendal and decided to “fix him up”, thus making him more than he was before.
🎵He’s a bit of a fixer-upper🎵
You made me laugh, have a star.
Looks like Life took control over the healing and just did it directly, if subconsciously

I’d argue Alinua is the most *powerful*, The Collector is the most *skilled*
That sounds right to me too.

A wound in the body of a god no more
Does not work like in previous machines of war
God incarnations are made for divinity
Even if they’re not designed for simplicity
Kendal sans Vash would decay like a boneless hand
But then he was healed by a force no one understands
Maybe she did make him a chimera, albeit an incredibly functional one.
On the downside I had a nightmare but on the upside aurora!!
Panel six is absolutely beautiful.
Also Tess’s little ‘kinda’ is perfect
Panel six is just gorgeous
Also Tess’s little kinda is
Life being: I CAN FIX HIM
No offence Red, But what happened to double updates? Sry if that sounds mean…

It’s too bad Erin isn’t here taking notes.
Wait. So does this mean, that regeneration is a concious activity for him?
Is this a retcon? I feel vash was awake prior to being healed. Or maybe its just his perspective of it?
Not a retcon. Vash was awake, though captured and separated from the body. Kendal was briefly awake too and dying before Alinua healed him, and he’s remembering the state he was in.

He only wants someone who can unmake his prison.
He only needs someone capable of unmaking his prison.

Ooo, I hadn’t thought about Voidy needing a soul or an Elemantal Magnus – good point!
There once was a body of Vash

Impossible not to read the text in MatPat’s voice
…aaaaand cut.
Instead of FNAF, this MatPat’s best known for piecing together the lore from a series by Sennia. She deliberately makes it more convoluted to mess with him.
i feel bad for those that don’t know what a LEGEND MatPat is
you could say he’s built different
dontsayitdontsayitdontsayitdontsayitdontsa-
HE’S BUILT DIFFERENT
Hmm… so did Life herself mess with Kendal to make him sustainable? That seems like the logical explanation here to me…
Does this make Alinua Kendall’s mom?
Kendall used: WE’LL FIND OUT TOGETHER!
It was SUPER EFFECTIVE!
TL;DR: I don’t know how I work, you don’t know how I work, nobody knows how I work…
But if I don’t know how I work, and YOU don’t know how I work, then who’s driving this plot?!
Shhhh don’t let them become self aware…
f in the chat for vash
(kendalls safe hes not like other girls)
If only they had a smart guy in the group who has a wide base of knowledge of different elemental magics and other topics on the soul and mind and oh wait a minute
They need to talk to the monks about him, they’ll know more than Erin for sure.
I’m getting the distinct impression in the 2nd panel that Alinua and Danix thought Kendal was going to try various different ways of dying to see what would work.
Then the ‘kinda’ to the side just cracked me up 🤭 🤣
IKR WHY IS NO ONE ELSE TALKING ABOUT THE TINY “kinda” ON THE SIDE OF PANEL 2 XD
it’s just so perfect! 😂
(crawls out of the endless void that is university) If I had a nickel for every Aurora character I relate to a little too hard then Tarren has added a second nickel
I really like the lighting in this scene
she fixed him 🔥🔥🔥🔥
