Out of curiosity, why is the ship called Crustables? I may be forgetting something, but I don’t think either of them have shown any particular preference for crustless peanut-butter and jelly pies.
Well, I think you might need to change your nick after an idea like that!
…y’know, shortly before reading about Aurora ferin, and long before Dainix’s introduction, I sketched a character capable of shifting into flames and back that I named *Ferin*. Funny that. Falst was just lining up to steal Erin’s books at the time.
After Falst saves a suspended Dainix, once again, Dainix saves Falst with a potentially painful carry-hug, once again, and the comment section will (probably) not be normal about it, once again. It’s like poetry, it rhymes.
Stone magic has such a nice glow and styling effect; greenish-white glow snaking around the edges and cracks with vertical motion lines and a few Kirby dots. I think it does well to communicate the solidity, slowness, but still powerful nature of stone.
The Stone sector of the Storm was dangerous because the ground was constantly shifting, flowing, and liable to swallow people; could Falst’s rushed carving and simple commands be making a crude, localised form of that? While it does seem to be effective now, we were first introduced to this creature crawling on the ceiling, so I’m willing to bet it can climb out of that.
I mean… the ceiling–crawling is a good point, but that probably depends on if the ground is currently more *neat steep rift* or *meatgrinder*, and tbh I feel like the latter is more likely, just looking at it.
I don’t need them to be in a romantic relationship, but I *do* need them to interact MOAR because their interactions are fantastic <3 Asleep or awake, this dynamic duo is brilliant!
(It's okay to not agree and to ship All The Ships, it's just that I don't feel those urges and never have).
Oh that is very relatable. I’ve never felt even slightly inclinated to ship, in fiction or otherwise. Somehow, romantic drama never managed to interest me. And I can understand that others might be very invested, so that’s all fine. But also, kinda not. Because Aurora has so far been my safe haven of not having to check out mentally at any point ’cause I can’t relate and/or feel invested in the characters.
What you wrote there about not investing is very interesting! That makes me think it is one of my problem with some shows and series is precisely that I get too invested, and feel *too much* with the characters, so, I have to… just stop for a while.
Or not pick it up.
Hm, thanks for that thought!
A hug and a nap – two of the four things Red recommended for Zuko in her Redeemed Villains Trope Talk! The other two were a hot meal and a gosh-darned friend. Falst and Dainix could probably both use a hot meal by this point. I think the friend thing is happening whether they like it or not.
Also, Dainix has now lost both his ponytail and his spear.
Also Also, the high record for number of pages in a chapter is 38 so far. Unless Red breaks that record, this story arc will be done by the end of September, which means that Erin and Alinua better show up soon, or they won’t have time to be properly heroic.
Hey @Saga Important things get plot armor in stories too. Batman’s vehicle is always appropriate to the environment and gets wrecked only if the story plot needs it. Speed Racer’s Mach 5 never runs out of gas and also defies physics in fun ways. If the storyteller gets caught they may add a scene to appeases critics but it can break dramatic tension. It’s up to the story teller add detail or let it slide. Shakespeare’s Midsummer’s Night Dream seems to have a plea for audiences to accept author’s limitation in the Duke’s explanation of the plot play within the play, But it might be mean to mention it way to Writer.. (stick tongue in cheek and not mention the Kettle’s lack of shine)
Anonymous Aurora Question #14: What is your favourite comment section idea (Haikus, Couplets, Theories, TL:DRs) besides your own and what do you think each Aurora Character (Antagonists and side Characters included), would regularly post into the comment section (Theories, Poems or else, assuming they do not know Aurora is about them)?
I’ve always been partial to the TL;DR, but I love seeing all of them!! Massive respect to this comment section 😀 you guys are so creative??!
Erin would theorize off the WALL (full string conspiracy board), and point out every single detail he notices. He has a full translation of the runes that he scraped together from observation alone. Tess would make puns and leave spoilers (most of which are obviously fake or jokes, but still amusing). Alinua would fawn over the art and point out underrated details. Kendall would deconstruct the meta of the story itself and how well Red is telling it; and respond to every single comment. Dainix would be a poem guy and another decently active commenter. Falst would leave one line stating his opinion of the current page & never check back again.
I have a certain appreciation for OngoingConversationCouplet since I grew up when every cartoon had a character that always talked like that and I failed my high school poetry assignment.
I think Tahraim would be intrigued by the story and have a lot of commentary, but I think he has enough meta-knowledge to know it’s a story he is a part of. I think he would still read and comment to keep track of the situation and be cryptically sassy. Shrike has a lot of time on her hands now and is quite the commentator. Now that I think about it, Red has a lot of sassy characters.
Before Falst and Dainix were properly introduced in the comic the only inkling we had of their names was from the sketches file names, which listed Falst as himself but Dainix as “Crucible”. Some mad lad decided to ship them together and combined their names to make “crustables”, and to this day it is the most popular ship name for these two probably because of its silliness.
Can we make a counter for how many times these two have saved each other? Like seriously, that’s all this arc is at this point, lol. (not a critique, just a funny observation)
Okay, so this arc alone the tally is: 6 Falst saving Dainix, and 7 Dainix saving Falst.
And I’m only counting mortal peril saves, not including all the little moments of helping each other
still waiting for the character ??? (paladin a while back who seems to have a connection with the white dragon or a higher paladin) to just come down from the sky and to attack the Erin.
I’ve seen couples spend less time in each other’s arms than these two
Which is part of the reason why I think Crustables will be canon.
Out of curiosity, why is the ship called Crustables? I may be forgetting something, but I don’t think either of them have shown any particular preference for crustless peanut-butter and jelly pies.
I assume “crucible”.. no idea what “tables” have to do with it though.
Free at last, the labby stears in fear
As the glort seems to down in cracks disappear
Ah, it seems I didn’t study this page closely enough. So, here’s an extension couplet.
But the catboy will soon fall as well
So he picks him up, and bids Jeff farewell
…… i’m not even gonna say anything
It’s satisfying to think of The Gorp seeping helplessly through those cracks into the abyss below. G’bye, suckah!
The Gorp? is this monster made of Trail Mix?
Good ol’ raisins and peanuts
So at which point do we start shipping and have the FalstXDainix faction square up against the FalstXErin faction?
Or is that already happening?
Ships need not compete with one another, they can join together in a beautiful poly flotilla
Why choose when you can have the ErinXFalstXDainix faction?
the people winning the most out of that square-up are the multishippers
Hmmm…
Ferinheit.
Oh my God.
you’re a goddamn genius
That’s really good. I’m going to use that instead of Crustables going forward.
Well, I think you might need to change your nick after an idea like that!

It took me way too long to figure out whose arms were whose in that last panel.
glad im not the only one
At least you eventually did! Figuring out whose arms are whose is something Jeff never quite mastered

Not Dainix’s ponytail…. 🙁

I like @Evil Tree observations, all the poetical interpretations of the story panels and comments on characters and some plot conspires (Plots!)

It just hit me that The Goop™ is very similar to the big blot in Jocat’s heart of elynthi
That’s the same pose my cat makes when I try to pick them up.
Awwww, the boys. I love them.
gotta get the catboy
Oh dear. Oh my.
(I love them.)

Aaah. Thanks for the explanation. Also, that’s 1) a neat backstory and 2) very fun and silly, indeed.
I fully thought until now that Falst was just Danix’s shoulder and I was so confused
saaaaaaaame
Alinua and erin’s excavation efforts finished for them via falst’s impromptu cave -cracking, do they fall in? or does the cave? read more this friday.
