not if she wakes up, cos she’s pretty much already awake, but if she moves, if she leaves the Adamant Prison, if the Collector reconstitutes her body, we can assume that the Void Dragon will be free as well. that very neatly connects the whole Vash-plot to the Void-plot. it’s also very bad.
Because of evaluation week I was very late for the last page. So once again, this page and last.

You’re right about the soul-exploding. I remember how much I liked the way Alinua’s magic was depicted in chapters 2 and 3, and how clearly the sensation of her magic was communicated (like electricity at first, painful, unpredictable, almost splinting her in pieces, and then soft , flowing, as it is now). I believe his page dipicts the feeling Alinua got everytime she came close to overloading, something terible she thought she’d never have to experience again. Hence her brief panic.
I give you snaps for trying! You rose to challenge and took a chance and with a huge handicap! That took guts! (as in courage) You only discover what you can do under pressure by doing so. I hope you well on your evaluations too!

Staying home today, which means I can read the new page on desktop and guess what, it somehow looks twice as amazing. Must resist the urge to reread the whole comic on this screen

Why deny yourself joy if you not harming your self or others? Yes ‘moderation in all things’ is a good maxim to live by but in practice people tend to focus too much on one idea (example: dieting to lose weight) and going to extremes (focusing on dieting to lose weight over dieting to be healthy).
You don’t understand,, I have so much work to do and I’ve been procrastinating all day :). I’m not that serious about the reread, I will eventually but for now I have pages to fill and other media to consume in my spare time

Really really big black birds with lots of feathers and glowy eyes. it’s unclear where they fly to or rest at, or what they eat. That’s a secret for me to know, and you to find out when you get really unlucky
Oh and you only see them from a distance, but when you see them, they’re carefully watching you most of the time, or laser focused on reaching wherever they are flying to.

Epic sea dragons that are like, super ancient and have lots of wisdom. But they don’t talk to you unless you’re cool enough. So basically Earthsea dragons, just in the oceans and blue.

Oh, that’s easy. Dragons, of course! Friendly ones, obviously. Not like old Voidy over there.
And maybe some little pink potato fairies (those adorably fat little frogs). Glowy, luminescent pink potato fairies.
So I know that Potato Fairies are frogs (or smthn like that, idk), but the idea of Potatoes with fairy wings is stuck in my head now.
I was previously unaware that there was a type of frog called a potato fairy.
This is one of the greatest discoveries I’ve ever made.
Second only to my discovery of the plumed whistling duck.

I would take commissions for what to create
An extremily tiny owl that can read the minds of everyone in a kilometer ( I am european) radius, getting all their knowledge and intelligenge without harming them. They tipically only take an observer role but will still help people in need in small ways using their massive intelligence without anyone noticing.
The shape of the magic lines, like the electricity, swirly bits around Vash, Tynan’s lightning patterns, and Alinua’s life patterns, all have meaning.
The electricity is only zappy when the ribbons are loosened. I think the looseness of the ribbons indicates disconnect from Life. Especially since in panel 4, the Life pattern gets close to the edge of the ribbons, and the zapping reduces, and then the ribbons tighten in the next page.
The electricity appears to be coming from Alinua, so it could be that without a connection to life, the power would overwhelm her? But we knew that? After all, the power comes from Life in the first place, but when Alinua fully lost control way back when, some kind of proper connection was forged, unlike the previous ones. It stopped being a one way connection perhaps.
And how does this all apply to perspective? I mean, Alinua receiving godly powers could be bad if she actually had full control of them. Superman could have been worse if he wasn’t raised by such completely good parents, and Life seems to understand that. Maybe she needed Alinua to experience suffering and mortality, before she could gain full control of the powers of Life. If that is the case, why was the first thing Life said, “FINALLY”, like she had been trying for ages? Is Alinua perhaps the first person to have had the willpower to control it? That can’t be, she was a child, and the others were children too. But she knew what it was, and deliberately avoided using the powers. She demonstrated incredible restraint, and didn’t let her powers run wild until well into her adult hood. I suppose3 then, the question is was it because of Alinua that it succeeded, or because this was just Life’s first successful try at something, and Alinua got lucky (or unlucky, depending on her perspective).
The symbol on Iras, the chimeric plague bearer we saw from Vash, had a different shape. He didn’t have Life’s great rune on him, but something very close to it. Maybe Alinua is Life’s first successful try at invoking her own true name, on the very being of a mortal.
But it has to have SOMETHING to do with Alinua as a person. Unless this is a Spiderman, “Anyone can be Spiderman, Peter’s just the one who got bit” sort of thing, rather than a trial and error murdery supernatural worthiness test
I think Life is showing her how she protects Alinua and has been doing it for a while. I agree with “could have been anyone” part.
This is shrouded in, beautiful, occult mystery. Red, what are you up to…
@Ardent-I like your thoughts! I think Red is going to ‘unpack’ (in effect show/explain) what she means later on in her story (in delightful artsy/literary way!) (wags tail in anticipation)

Was it this chapter or last chapter Red said she was giving her drawing hand a break? Because from all the amazing panels we’ve had she’s not showing it. So many changes in tone, lighting, and themes; abrupt activity then tense stillness with Alinua tossed around inside it all. Drawing dreams must be fun.
Ok, I wasn’t expecting this. I was expecting Alinua to be stuck in darkness and immobility, reflecting Life’s status as V.D.’s seal or existence as free-flowing energy. This looks painful, straining, and chaotic; I wasn’t expecting lightning effects.
Then again looking back at 1-11-16, we see a similar display of green lightning intertwined with Life in the second panel, maybe this represents the chaos and confusion when the Collector first woke her up. Maybe the Collector’s comments on ending Life’s “half-dead torment” were more accurate than we realised.

OOO– I love how the electricity (?) looks kind of like veins in a translucent membrane type thing on the ribbons in the second panel. Where are we going with this? Can’t wait to see ?

If I may respectfully disagree, I think you are focusing too much on the BDSM angle. Try looking more from artist/writer exploring the human condition angle (like Walt Whitman’s “I sing the body electric”)(Sorry still a fan of poetry as well as comics)
The cracks spread not just through the ribbons, but the sphere. If Life is revived, she wouldn’t just destroy the adamant core, but the entire planet. And she would be the only one left standing against The Void Dragon.
Maybe this is meant to symbolize how it feels for Life when life magic is used? I’m confused. The panels are pretty, though.

I still see sadness in Life’s eyes.
Those bonds probably represent Alinua’s bond to Life, and that breaking those bonds will only bring her intense pain. When those bonds become slack it makes her suffer, but that pain stops as soon as they are tight again. I think Life is trying to tell her that they’re stuck together for the time being, while also showing that she understands that Alinua isn’t happy about the circumstances.
Life seems to be having trouble communicating with Alinua directly when she didn’t seem to have any issue speaking with Gleicann. Perhaps she can only speak if she’s manifested some kind of physical body, which is only possible if Alinua is unconscious (and thus unavailable for conversation) and there is a large surplus of Life energy in the environment (which may come in the form of a charged Lacrima).
That is an angle more worthy of exploration and discussion by my biases.
I’m now reminded of something the Void Dragon said way back in Chapter 7: “With sentience and free will, I could not simply reach into their minds as freely as I wished”.
VD’s and Life’s predicaments are similar to a degree. Neither can fully act through their vessels unless they overpower or bypass Erin’s and Alinua’s will respectively.
