beating the living daylights out of a near-physically unbeatable storm god is a very appropriate way for the two physically strongest people in the gang to meet
Swift Kendal rips Tynan apart,
But he strikes him with lightning, yelling “POINTLESS!”
“Whoop! Let me get that for you.”
Says lightning – catching Tess.
First of all, I LOVE Tess. Just reminding Kendal in the simplest ways that your friends can protect you as well. Especially if they’re a ripped metal woman who travels via cross-continental lightning leaps. Plus, that little: “Yick” like “You’re stabbing a storm god? Gross.”
Also, I have a new theory, weirdly because of Erin’s eyes (even though he’s not on screen anymore). Whenever Erin uses magic, his eyes glow the colour of the associated magic. Alinua’s eyes used to be grey, but now they’re a bright green, the same colour that Erin’s would turn if he were using life magic.
Hence, my theory; since her magical overload, Alinua has constantly been channeling life magic, causing her grey eyes to take on a permanent green colour. However, when Alinua herself uses magic, her birthmark also glows and patterns may appear on her skin. So further, I believe that Alinua herself is not channeling life magic, but Primordial Life is channeling magic through her. She’s almost like a living lacrima. But why is Primordial Life doing this?
Because Alinua is DEAD (plot twist?). She actually died during the magical overload, just as she expected to, and then Primordial Life put her back together to become their vessel and is now sustaining her using life magic, because her actual body is lifeless.
Tynan being so hard to take down really puts into perspective that old tale of him/it being exiled, and why it was hard to do, and how mighty a feat it was to do, and how dangerous he is.
This Pokémon was thought to have been born from lightning. It electrifies its fists and delivers devastating blows to its foes. It travels across the land searching for strong opponents.
Careful Tynan! One more “Pointless” and you’ll set yourself up for a Jojo style “MUDA! MUDA!” scene.
Tynan, Kendal doesn’t do “playing around”, ever. That’s the second time he’s accused Kendal of not taking the fight seriously; he did first 1-16-21. Is Tynan that unaccustomed to mortals who don’t fear death and gods that don’t fear their realm’s destruction? Given his modus operandi I suppose it would make sense.
So, attacking from the clouds now Tynan? Not a terrible move as now the brawlers can’t touch you, but as seen with Tess and Erin’s lightning shield he do much against them either. Plus he’s still focusing on Kendal, not sure how much longer that’ll last though.
Fun fact: I’ve only just seen the cover art for this chapter and am now understanding some of the previous comments. I’m not certain that’s meant to represent V.D. though; that dragon silhouette looks a lot beefier than the Void Noodle and has lightning coming from it. Plus he has no real reason to manifest that much unless Erin’s life is at stake, which at the moment it isn’t.
Maybe Tynan decides his human form isn’t cutting it so decides to make a new incarnation in the form of a dragon to increase the fear factor. If that is the case then he’s in for a big surprise when Tess “Dragon punch woman” Ruunaser shows off her credentials.
Based on panel 3, I have a theory that Kendal CAN do the starfire thingy eventually, but he needs to charge it by ripping Tynan apart a bunch of times. You know, until his Star Power meter is full.
And one party member has ALL the resistances and outright immunity to current threat.
Player: Wait, we are fighting flame elementals? You know my character is literally Elemental Fire Dragon, originally from elemental plane of Fire, right?! Can I just talk with them and encourage them to leave squishy humans alone?
DM: Dammit, wrong campaign.
It’s believed that its immense power comes from a source beyond the Pokemon itself. Seasoned travelers warn of its dangerous attacks, though few ever get to see those for it spends far more time helping the injured. Some say it was far less capable in ancient times.
Honestly as a D&D moment this is clearly
DM: Make a saving throw.
Player 1: *Fail*
DM: Okay, this is going to hurt. (Starts gathering a lot of dice)
Player 2: Oh, hey, I have an ability to reduce that damage, can I go ahead and do that?
DM: (sigh) I guess that can be what happened.
Kendal’s channeling a little bit of Mathanga ten Meti energy here with that vertical bisection. (To anyone who gets that reference, may you have a good bowl of noodles in your near future.)
This just in: Tess doesn’t appreciate cloud gore.
I like the little watery trail that Kendal’s gem leaves in panel three.
Interesting theory. We’ll have to see how it holds up in the long run–changing a character’s eyes is generally used to signify power upgrades or brushes with beings and forces far beyond mortal ken (which is obviously what happened to Alinua), and that they survived the experience without being too severely warped–it’s a scar, in a sense. Plus we’ve seen Alinua’s eyes glow when she uses her magic, so even if the color is different they’re not glowing all the time. I’m also not sure if a being like Life could push back the inevitable decay indefinitely–and even if she could, death has a scent to it even in those who are still alive, and will still be alive for years yet. Falst being what he is, he’d probably be able to pick up on it (though granted he might not initially realize what it is, given he’s still a fairly recent addition to the party…)
To Bluefire, LordHints:
Ooh, I wanna try:
Erin, the Hubris Pokemon
Type: Normal/Dark
Ability: Protean
Moves: Hidden Power, Secret Power, Shadow Claw, Dark Pulse
Dex: This Pokemon’s intellect knows no bounds, and it often found searching out the world’s secrets. However, it is said that in it’s arrogance it unlocked a great evil, which now resides within it and waits for the right moment to strike.
This Pokemon was born under mysterious circumstances. It seeks its missing parent, but its kind heart means it will pause in its search to help those in need.
@Skye good point. but i don’t think i explained what i meant very well in my original comment. in my theory, alinua isn’t entirely dead, she’s just not entirely alive. as in, she’s alive, but she can’t survive on her own energy anymore, and Life is sustaining her like literal ‘life support’. so she’s not ‘rotting on the inside’ dead, but she’s only alive in a sense that if Life were to stop providing magical life support, she would probably die. she’s like half-dead, half-Life.
i’m probably wrong, and the closest i can see myself to being right is that Alinua did die, and was ressurected when she ‘touched Life’s mind’ in a similar way to the Collector. except the ‘gift’ Life gave her wasn’t immortality, it was more of 1-Up
Okay I have a theory: After reading Extra Lore: The Seventh Element I think the 7th is the dark dragon’s. In his speech with Erin in the Singing Caves he says he tried to eat the sun. that matches up with the theory (in the Extra Lore) that the seventh element focuses on consumption. If he is the representation of such an element then it would make sense he would try and eat the biggest thing he could find.
Ah yes, physics, if you’re made of metal and chosen by the sky, you can act as a lightening rod for your friends when they get zapped by angry storm gods. I love that everyone is stressed for their lives and Tess is just vibing.
@veggiesnake oh. Um… I hate that that makes sense because now it means I agree and it means she might be dead… Or it could just be she’s leaking life energy all the time.
Okay, yeah, I see what you were getting at. That makes more sense–again, though, we’ll have to see how it goes.
To Bluefire:
You already did Erin? Whoops, lol.
My initial pick for his Ability was Multitype, but I wasn’t sure if his tats would sub in for Plates, and given it’s an exclusive ability, I started looking for ones with the same effect (aka I initially forgot Protean existed, lol…)
Thoughts on Kendal’s Typing? I considered Steel/Psychic as an alternative (connection to Vash, latent memories), but went with the Ghost secondary due to his origins.
You guys remind me of a time my brother was DM in a world he created. The characters were in a region infested with ice dragons.
DM: You hear a distant rumbling sound.
Magic User: Prepare to cast fireball.
*other characters draw swords, bows*
DM: It’s getting louder… coming your way… you see a cloud of white on the mountain slope above….
Magic User: Cast fireball!
DM: You see nothing but blinding white as avalanche sweeps over you!
They had to roll to see if the fireball made it worse (yes) and if they lost their supplies (yes). Then they heard the roar. Of the real ice dragon.
I had Fighting/Steel, I like Steel/Ghost better on reflection though. I’m sure there are a million ways to stat out everyone (My version of Alinua was gonna have the ability Power Construct to reflect Life Mum) so I look forward to seeing what other people come up with!
Dainix, the Soulfire Pokemon
Type: Fire/Fighting
Ability: Blaze
Moves: Close Combat, Low Sweep, Fire Punch, Overheat
No water can quench the flame of this pokemon’s spirit. Although it is not a solitary or territorial pokemon, it often wanders alone, and only befriends others strong enough to match it in battle and survive.
Shrike, the Bounty Pokemon
Type: Poison/Steel
Ability: Neutralizing Gas
Moves: Anchor Shot, Smart Strike, Autotomize, Sleep Powder
A pokemon that forms mutualistic bonds with stronger pokemon, and captures their opponents for them in exchange for shelter and protection. It is known to be extremely cunning and socially intelligent, making them natural leaders.
for some reason the 5th and 6th panels made me imagine that Tynan’s disembodied voice sounds like James Earl Jones in that scene from the Lion King where he’s in the cloud
I love how they’re treating the fight so casually. Or at least Tess is. Reminds me of a D&D party
Tess is a delight XD.
Living lightning rod Tess is here to help… and kick ass
I could hear Tynan’s rage I swear
Why is Tess consistenly my favorite character on any page she appears on?
Ouchie
beating the living daylights out of a near-physically unbeatable storm god is a very appropriate way for the two physically strongest people in the gang to meet
Why “Yick”? There is no gore.
Something’s going terribly wrong in 5, 4, 3, 2, 1…

Tynan: “Harder”
Kendal: “What?”
Tynan: “What?”
Mmmm, Tess doing a Helluvacool!
Tynan being so hard to take down really puts into perspective that old tale of him/it being exiled, and why it was hard to do, and how mighty a feat it was to do, and how dangerous he is.
I love Tess.
@Bluefire / NightJar:
Tess, the Storm Touched Pokémon
Type: Electric/Steel
Ability: Lightning Rod, apparently
Moves:
– Thunder Punch
– Thunderbolt
– Bounce
– Mach Punch
This Pokémon was thought to have been born from lightning. It electrifies its fists and delivers devastating blows to its foes. It travels across the land searching for strong opponents.
living for Tess taking that lightning strike like it’s a pickle Kendal got with his sandwich that he didn’t want

Honestly these last few updates have been leaving me uneasy…. I hope nobody dies
tess, have you ever heard of the warf effect?
Read Tess’ line as ‘ope’ and suddenly a kindred spirit is found.
TESS IS FROM THE MID-WEST!
TL;DR: You’d be electrocuted if it wasn’t for the power of friendship, sword boy. Ready to reconsider?
@Bush Guardian

Alinua, the verdant Pokemon
Type: grass
Ability: healer/ regenerator
Moves:
-frenzy plant

-outrage
-synthesis

No, pointed. That’s kind of the purpose of a sword, Tynan.
Tess is so casually cool
Has no one else noticed the pun here?
Kendal is very proud of his sword’s pointiness
“Pointless”? Guess you could say IT’S NO USE.
Tess: No, Kendal, I’m supposed to be the lightning rod
@Bush Guardian / @youngstormlord

I think Tess is in serious danger of stealing the show.

@William reads comic way too much wasn’t that already confirmed?

Huh, we both have Erin Protean as an ability. Guess that means it works!

They’re having a GREAT hair day, all electrocution considered.
Am I the only one getting serious Midwestern vibes off of Tess in the final panel? Oop, let me just get that lightning for ya. You okay there bud?
I think Kendal’s posture in panel 3 is impossible. You can’t rotate your shoulder 180 degrees upwards
My man Tynan just basically said “Muda muda!”
whoops… accidently blew a hole threw him
to wave_under_stars.
he’s kinda not human. more godly. kinda three weeks old & doesn’t know that that is not possible.
I’m already calling it, Takehito Koyasu the voice of DIO is the official Japanese voice actor for Tynan
To waves_under_stars:
I think it’s a 90° rotation combined with a twist of the torso?
for some reason the 5th and 6th panels made me imagine that Tynan’s disembodied voice sounds like James Earl Jones in that scene from the Lion King where he’s in the cloud
idk why, it’s just the Vibe
Retroactively adding this to the Pokedex chain because Falst got left out:
Falst, the Prickly Pokemon:
Type: Normal/Fighting
Ability: Adaptability
Moves: Crush Claw, Strength, Slash, Close Combat
At first glance this Pokemon seems to be churlish and aloof. However, those who earn its trust will find it to be a loyal companion.
tess is just hit with a direct strike of lightning and goes “thanks, may i have another?”
TESS IS SO GREAT I LOVE HER
