Ahh man, you’re all lucky I don’t do april fools day gags, this would be a doozy of a page to be wacky with. Instead I’ve just given you a nice friday cliffhanger! You’re welcome.

Well of course he isn’t taking it seriously, it’s April fools!
You see, it’s time like these that make me think that Kendal is quite literally the spirit of Vash’s sword ‘borrowing’ his body ever since he got snatched.
@ Rukatin As strange as it sounds, the sword was made from things that were incorporated into him, you may be more right that Kendal “is” the sword to a degree. The current theory is that Vash spent enough time in these incarnations that a little of himself was left in it. The trouble with that is that the incarnations would “vanish” or disassemble after they were done. So then he couldn;t have inhabited one long enough for that to happen. the golems would have decades or even centuries, but not kendal
s body. the sword being a much more permanent feature seems to make more sense, especially considering Vash would give his post Tyyan bodies the star metal upgrade.
Jokes on you Tynan, Kendal has faced certain death too many times (including his creation) to be scared of you.
Oh shit, I was not expecting that to happen this soon!
Tynan’s rightfully scared now with Kendal’s Starfire Mode active.
More seriously though, I’m not surprised that Kendal isn’t fighting Tynan the way Vash did. Vash had no one to help him so he’d have to fight more fiercely. Kendal has friends though and he knows they have his back.
Oh, how unsporting!
Tis a fight to the death, yes?
Then show me your fear!
Turns out, that certain death Tynan is harping about so much is not as certain as he thought it was. Disassembling a storm god without a word. Good job, Kendal!
@Rukatin What a great theory! That makes a lot of sense!
What you’re missing, Tynan, is that Kendal doesn’t give a shit about his own life. He sees himself as a tool. Combat is his existence.
narratively this wouldn’t make sense seeing as this is Kendal/vash’s big moment but… Dainix ex machina?
Ooooh, glowy power up the third (in this chapter). Or fourth? Does Erin making a decision count?
Why is there an advertisement showing up on the top of the page?! Does it show up for anyone else, or did I somehow get a virus on my phone?
Storm Yuan’s confusion rises, raging,
Why are you so calm?
He demands, lunges, and starsteel Kendall
It glows with the promise of harm .
If I had to guess, Kendal isn’t just a name he shares with the sword, Kendal is literally the sword, just using the body Vash left without realizing it
@CapitainCutlet I do see one. [ US500 Stock CFD trading Google play install]?
this is where I give you a reminder that Kendal once literally ran into a cloud of PRINORDIAL certain death, aka void dragon, without a second thought because he wanted to save one guy he didn’t know.
@CaptainCutlet Red commented yesterday on Twitter that she (after a lot of procrastination) finally got adsense approved here. The ads should’nt be anything too agressive and you can disable it using the arrow on the left or an ad blocker.
Also, joke’s on Tynan, Kendal does not know what “self preservation” or whatever it is called even means.
i suppose the starmetal remembers Tynan. even if Kendal himself is just the latest of Vash’s incanations, Kendal, the sword, has been there for every battle since Tahraim forged it for Vash, and earlier, as a part of Vash himself. it makes sense that it would take on some of Vash’s soul and power after a while, even by religious association. i can see Kendal being the consciousness of the sword
THE POWER OF FREINDSHIP YEAAHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
He just caught your lighting with his sword. Lightning from that storm. The storm that is essentially you. Which means the lightning was not a lightning, but your own god force. It looks like the sword did not just catch your god force, but also stored it. It also looks like Kendal can access and use the stored god force.
So… what happens if he actually hits you with that sword? Or would a touch be enough to start draining you?
Just connecting dots and spinning theories. Can’t wait to see what is going to happen.
TL;DR: Clouds-for-hair loses his cool in the face of someone with a lot more of it. Something tells me the blue glow reminds him of something… A past butt-kicking?
Hmm… I feel the need to just talk about this and the possible implications. First off, Tynan seemed so calm in the first couple of panels, then he becomes irritated/concerned, and then angry. I’m wondering why. Why would he have such a quick shift. Angry to scared is something I understand, those two emotions are very similar and often cause each other, but calm to concerned I don’t get. Why would he be concerned? Because Kendal isn’t afraid? There are tens of thousands of people in Zuurith, they would have much more effect than a single guy, no matter how much potential that single guy has. And anger? I don’t get why he would feel anger. Vash lasted much longer against him, and Kendal in his eyes is a weaker Vash. So I’m guessing he was scared that Kendal would figure the sword out and disguised it as anger, but when Kendal DID figure it out, he was shocked enough that his facade dropped.

😀
F U C K!
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA
Oh man, this is making me want to run a paladin with an EPIC blue divine smite
The bones of his right hand are glowing through his skin! This page is so cool!
“Because I’m focusing on how to kick your ass.”
Panel 9, Tynan’s expression looks like 😐 from the sword and I cant stop laughing at it XD
Next page…
Tynan: No! You will not beat me the same way twice!
Erin: Hi.
Dainix: Hi.
Tynan: XD
“Let me see what you have!.”
“A magic sword!”
“NO!!!!!”
So, to tie a couple of theories I’ve seen here together (Thanks to Rukatin, Rororoyourboat, Kat, Exhaustion, veggiesnake, Dreamfox, and Bush Guardian)
So, starting with Bush Guardian, Tynan was calm because he was hiding behind a shield of ‘this will only take a minute, no one here can stand against me’. But now Kendal is starting to hold his own in a direct swordfight, so he’s a bit concerned, or at least surprised. And he’s certainly got a bit of remnant Vash-power stored up, which is starting to show itself. Tynan could, and is, destroying the city, this city of tens of thousands, and there are (let me count) 4 people actually trying to stop it. Alinua and Falst are trying to stop it from having more casualties, and June and the Archive crew (Great name for a band) are just waiting out the storm. Only Erin, Tess, Dainix, and Kendal are doing anything about it, and we don’t even know what Dainix is doing right now, plus Tess can’t really hurt him.
Anyway, I think Tynan is angry because, in his eyes, Kendal is a weaker Vash. And the fact that Kendal doesn’t seem to care… Tynan can’t know that it’s because he has no sense of self-preservation. He wants to destroy Tynan, no matter the personal cost, because to him, he has no worth beyond fighting in Vash’s place. So to Tynan, he thinks Kendal doesn’t care because there’s no risk of him dying. The truth, though, is that Kendal and the sword together are just as powerful, if not more (though that would be impressive) than Vash was, but Kendal himself doesn’t know that. Because Kendal *is* the sword, which gives them a unity that Vash and his ‘right hand’ can’t quite match.
Oh yeah, speaking of that. It’s more than possible that the sword is what gave him consciousness in the first place. Way back when we first met Tahraim and Caliban, whatever chapter that was, the story said ‘his soul slipped into it like a glove’ so maybe there was some residual soul energy in the sword, which it used to give Kendal conciousness.
“I have a feeling you’re not taking this entirely seriously.”
*gets uploaded on April Fool’s Day*
Hrm.
Ty an doesn’t realise Kendal is stalling for time. He’s not protecting his friends, he can’t, he’s relying on them and distracting Tynan until then so he can’t hurt anyone else
I LOVE this page. The magnificent bastard is losing his cool.
Oh he is pulling the calm rage trope isnt he?
In the previous post I thought Kendal might have been doing something with Vash, and I don’t know if this glowy sword has anything to do with it, but this is EPIC. (Also since I forgot the fun fact for the previous post again, I’ll do 2)
Did you know…
If you stop breathing you die, as you need oxygen to not die and breathing is how you get more.
Did you also know…
The first workable prototype of the internet was used by the military in the late 1960s.
Gorgo the mimic:
Ok, that’s good, I was worried I was the only one who was having to deal with these.
Bluefire:
You know… maybe Tynan didn’t realize it wasn’t just the inhabited husk of a god, and Kendal is more than just a regular dude in a god’s body.
glmdgrielson:
Maybe he’s projecting assuming that Kendal was going to pull a joke on him due to what day it was.
you’re fighting a guy who’s three days old and still has no sense of self-preservation, what did you expect my man
Tynan: You’re not taking this seriously!
Kendal: oh, sorry, did you want me to activate GOD MODE
Tynan: NO, NO I DIDN’T
…wow. I think this is the first time everyone got a Futurivia incorrect, even me. I don’t think anyone was expecting for Kendal to be so collected about this. Also, bottom left, it’s the image from Red’s Aurora Twitter! We got it!
@Rutakin: That make’s everything make so much sense now!
@Rai626: I HOPE SO :-D!
@polymachine: Well, Alinua did mention Vash weaving metal into his bones ;-).
@glmgreilson: Hrmmmmmmmmm.
Vote if you agree with the “Kendal’s the sword” theory
F*ck! YES! F*CK yes! Kendal still has intrinsic power! “But your hands aren’t his anymore, are they?” Maybe not, but they’re glowing blue from the skeleton and ready to punch you in the face, Tynan! Right before his blade sunders your storm once again! (This is really good fuel for the Blade and Man as One theory!)
I’m reminded of Alinua’s comment, “Did Vash weave metal into [your bones]?” It seems he did, indeed; specifically starmetal. Apparently he had no shortage of the stuff, which makes sense considering it came from a whole-ass meteor.
I like how Tynan has one color of lightning in each sword.
Everyone keeps assuming Kendal is just an empty husk without Vash. He’s not just some leftover piece of equipment, he’s *the last creation of a defeated god*.
alt text: oho?
I’d suspect Kendal probably doesn’t have the raw energy available to throw in to a storm-sundering blast of fire like Vash did, but that doesn’t mean he can’t pull out a reminder to make Tynan remember that he fears something too.
me, finished with state testing for the forseeable future and sitting around with nothing to do in my first period: oh, hey, i haven’t seen today’s aurora update yet.
Ooh, if this isn’t proof of the theory that Kendal is the soul of his namesake sword transferred into Vash’s empty incarnation and grown into his own person, I don’t know what is! I’ve been looking forward to that particular twist for quite some time, and now it looks like we’re right on it’s cusp! ^-^
Death, nah, that;s old news.
Do you want to join the fluffy hair club? You got some serious floof.
Man, it’s almost like Kendall is playing an April Fools joke on Tynan. I love when the villain lays out this perfect plan, but it relies on the hero doing something in particular that they just kind of assume the hero will do, and then the hero makes the whole thing really unsatisfying for the villain by absolutely refusing to do what they need him to do in order for the grand plan to work properly.
He’s calm because Tynan’s power comes from fear!
yo the metal in his arm!!!
It’s all fun and games until the eyes match the sword.
Was that a flicker of fear we saw in the Zuurith’s eyes?
Ironic, it’s the victim of the storm that is calm, even if the eye of the storm itself is turbulent and fearful.
Aha! I’m finally caught up on the comic! …oh no, I’m caught up on the comic…
Thank you for including an RSS feed! Every comic should have one of those! (I guess almost all of them do?)
You see, that’s not desperate. It’s angry.
its great how tynan’s “i get my power from your fear” thing isnt just flavourtext – hes legitimately unnerved, and maybe even less powerful than he usually is, because Kendall is not emotional around him. It’s also nice that the audience is regularly reminded that Kendall is neither mortal nor god – hes something in between, and at the same time, he’s something completely different. That gives him an interesting leg up on his antagonists – NO ONE knows what to expect from him, because no one has ever seem anything like him. its also a great way to surprise US – i know im freaking out at the glowing bones
I just want to go on about how pretty this page is (especially the 2nd and 3rd last panels) because maybe I’m just a sucker for blue glowy things, but EEEEEEEEEE! IT’S SO PRETTYYYYYYYYY!!
Tynan: WHY ARE YOU. SO. CALM??
Audience: WHY ARE YOU. SO COOL??
I see Tynan has PTSD, too.
@EveryZig314 YES. THAT 😀 *chuckle*
Also the art and the words all together is fantastic.
Also, hey, Tynan, yeah, that’s a person sprung from the same source that helped banish you… it WOULD be nice if you just backed down and became a nice little squall but, I have a feeling you’ll go the other way. *brings popcorn*
“In the face of certain death, why are you so calm?”
fssh
“Oh sh**, his death wasn’t certain!”
A lot of really interesting thoughts on Tynan’s reaction here have been shared, and I’d like to share my take as well. I haven’t read every comment, so my apologies if someone has already said this.
It’s been established that Tynan is sustained by fear. He goes from one city to the next, milking them for fear, but once he’s destroyed it, he’s left diminished and moves on to the next. Even other Gods have feared him–Vash wound up defeating him and banishing him, but he pretty explicitly states in this page that Vash was afraid. Fear is how Tynan is worshipped, and he has never before faced someone that didn’t fear–didn’t *worship* him. Our adorable Kendall is too self-sacrificing to be afraid. And that shocks Tynan–perhaps it even diminishes his power (though since that’s something of a trope, I wouldn’t be surprised if Red dodges it). He can tell that Kendall isn’t afraid of him, and he’s never been confronted with that before. I cannot wait to see how this develops.
Perhaps it’s because he’s not scared of you, Tynan. And that just gets right under your skin.
I wonder how much not Vash Kendall is.≤/begin wild theorycrafting≥ I wonder if when a god makes an avatar, to invoke a sound analogy it makes a tuning fork to the god’s note ( it’s godhead). The god was not so much killed as the godhead was extinguished, it’s note silenced. Kendall is an unring tuning fork, and the more Vashlike he is and the closer to other godly power he is the more of Vash he is. ≤/end theoty≥
We are definitely headed epicward.
Hey guys, I’ve been thinking, do you think Red’s gonna kill a primary character ever?
It’s the eye of the tiger
it’s the cream of the fight
rising up to the challenge of our rival
is there anyone else who just lazes around on sunday with nothing to do but wait for monday so that you can read the new aurora page?
Some one had mentioned something about soul-fire. And Kendal remembers Vash’s fight with Tynpn. But can Kendal deliver the goods
The obvious answer here is that Tynan feeds on fear, Kendal knows that, and he’s pushing back his fear to get a leg up on him!
@alolanvulpix I definitely do.
YES, OH MY GOD THIS IS SO COOL! FUCK HIM UP KENDAL
i realize that’s what i’ve been saying this entire chapter, but THAT’S THE POWER OF FINALES
Omg I’m just noticing that you can see the bones in Kendal’s hands light up with the Starfire!!!!!
WOAHHH omg you’re right!
Also, I only just realized that he even *was* trying to activate the starfire.
