Red you’re killing us. Come on! SIDE PROFILES!?!?! JUST SHOW US WHATS UP WITH HIS DAMN EYE ALREADY!!!
Since ya’ll can’t hear my tone of voice, I mean Red no harm and am not that mad.
But srsly!? Side profiles!?!
On a much less aggressive note. Hi Tahrahim, you didn’t strike me as the kinda guy that said the word chump
Given how the beginning of this chapter has gone so far, I’d assume we’ll get another scene change in the next two pages, this time to Erin and Tess.
(The first page showed Kendal/Tynan, Ali/Falst, Dainix, Zuzu’s citizens, Junior Archivist, and the Ruunasers. So far we got to the groups Kendal, Ali, June, Dainix, and the citizens)
Zuurith: Tahraim?! Just how many gods are running around my city!?
Caliban: ‘sup.
It’s a small thing but I’m glad to hear the announcer, at least I assume that’s him, trying to direct people to safety.
Last time Alinua channeled life magic into solid rock it was to try and follow the Collector and almost caused a chimeric plague meltdown. Now she’s doing it to free prisoners from drowning while her friend battles for his life. So … improvement?
The sheer difference between these two fire characters. Tahraim is controlled, nicely dressed, an island of calm in this literal storm; Dainix is chaotic, his speech bubbles broken, skin cracking, smouldering and hissing as the rain evaporates off him. And here I thought Cali and Tahraim were contrasting fire people; Red puts a lot of effort into making the same elements have different feels and effects.
Next weeks prediction: Pep talk/cryptic advice from Tahraim that finally gets Dainix over his issues and raring to help, maybe give him a shiny weapon too. Possible backstory time.
To Evil Tree:
I’d say, Tharaim as a smith god represents the creational aspect of fire, while I have a feeling that Caliban and Ignans overall seem to be more into the chaotic and destructive aspect, for example Caliban’s disguises and hot temperament, and Danix’s “Demon”.
I see fire on the bandage side near Dainix’s eye, so maybe his other eye is smoldering too? I feel like it’s more than that but we aren’t allowed to see it yet. Judging by Dainix’s reaction, I’d guess that he was trying to talk to the demon and ended up getting Tahraim, who came here to talk to him. That’s what I’m guessing anyway. I don’t know what Tahraim wants to say to him, but I’m sure it’ll be interesting and help forge Dainix into the weapon Caliban wants him to be. That probably means getting the demon under control, so does that mean that the fire fist here is permanent? That would be annoying. It might, but it might also be that the demon is going to “burn out” again but hasn’t gotten to there yet. We’ll have to wait and see.
The way Tahraim is pointing, I’m having trouble deciding whether he’s calling Tynan or himself a chump here. Thanks to Dainix’s open-ended question, this could be a few different things: 1) Dainix is asking his inner fire if it can end the storm, to which Tahraim replies “Nah bro, this sh*t’s way beyond your current pay grade.” 2) Same question, but Tahraim decides to insert himself as the question’s subject, saying “Nah bro, this sh*t’s way beyond my current pay grade.” 3) Dainix is asking the rain if it can quench his inner fire, to which Tahraim replies “Pfft, this asshole couldn’t stop you if he wanted to.” 4) Same question as 3, but Tahraim decides to insert himself as the question’s subject, proceeding to give some advice along the lines of “Look inside yourself if you wish to control your flame.” Finally, 5) Dainix is asking his inner fire to just kill him and be done with it already instead of this drawn-out partial transformation, in which case Tahraim responding the way he does makes no sense (at least not yet, Tahraim just be like that all the time). To me, any possibility of 1-4 could be plausible.
Sometime this chapter, I’m confident we’ll finally see his other eye, or whatever is in its place.
Congrats to Monkey In A Shoe for guessing correctly on yesterday’s Futurivia (even though technically 2 of the answers were correct.)!
@Ryan: eyyyyyyyy.
@Evil Tree: It is nice to see the guy helping. Fun fact, the discord server has given him the name Yake, and since he isn’t going to get much focus, I think we can consider it his name now. With that being said, Yake supremacy?
@ TheUnknownGame
I think it’s more like 2, based on the way Tahraim seems to be pointing to Tynan over his shoulder, but the question actually seemed to be phrased like 4, (‘it’ instead of ‘he’) and Tahraim interpreting it differently.
So many people in the comments are talking about when we’re going to see his other eye, and seeing as Tahraim’s here, and he was the one that gave Vash the gem that became his eye, so something similar maybe?
I’m really serious about this symbolic parallel Tynan fight theory, but I might be completely wrong, and the weird details we got in like chapter 12 or whenever we heard that legend from Tynan are just because it’s a story, who knows.
That frame of Dainix looking down at his one demon hand and his one almost-normal one hit me really hard for some reason.
Based on his dialogue and the fact that Tahrain said he didn’t want to interfere, I’m guessing this is Caliban in disguise again. I wonder what their deal is!
Tahraim is obviously talking about Zuurith, and is gesturing at the little pile of ashes probably.
I was not expecting to see Tahraim show up here, I thought Caliban was going to be the one to appear before Dainix and say something along the lines of, “These people need you, you are strong. Stop doubting yourself and accept your destiny!” Though, given Tahraim’s assessment of Dainix the last time we saw him, that kind of pep talk is probably not what Dainix would need to hear, so Caliban is letting Tahraim take the reins for a moment. Or maybe this isn’t actually Tahraim and Caliban is just pretending to be him for a moment.
I would love to see Dainix go full-demon and bamph up to where Tynan has taken Kendal, and just starts wailing on Tynan who just has this confused expression on his face.
@Steve, Lord of Darkness and @TheUnknownGame
From the gestures and framing, I’d say it’s more likely number 3: He’s asking the storm if it can extinguish the fire demon, to which Tahraim responds by pointing at the clouds with a “This chump? Not a chance.”
This may hint that, similar to the chimeric plague in Alinua, the fire that possesses Dainix comes from the primordial Fire. Even though Tynan is kind of a big deal among weather and city Gods, the “demon” is an aspect of a primordial.
Of course, this is considering that:
A) It is the case (that Dainix’s fire demon is similar to Alinua’s chimeric plague) and;
B) Tahraim can recognize it.
So, it’s still wild speculation on my part. With the way the last frame was composed, Tahrain could be pointing at himself, in which case he could have (willfully) misunderstood the subject of Dainix’s question.
That’s Tahraim, a smith-god. He’s known for cryptic advice, annoying Caliban, and forging Kendal-the-Sword after Vash used it’s components (gifted by Tahraim) to defeat Tynan.
To The unknown game:
Considering Dainix’s attitude towards the demon and the intense self-loathing he must be feeling because it and he are one and the same (whether or not he knew or even suspected beforehand, which it seem he clearly did), it’s also quite possible and maybe even likely that he’s asking Tahraim to kill him, seeing it as a release from the curse, the only way to prevent the transformation and subsequent destruction, and possibly even preventing another ‘infection’ (remember, we don’t know what causes a demon to manifest). Now, whether Tahraim’s response indicates he can’t actually do anything despite being a god (wrong domain, perhaps), can’t do anything because it would lead to something even worse happening (I doubt a god could get ‘infected’, but there’s still the conflict with Tynan that the Demon’s power might be needed for), or he can’t do anything without interfering with Caliban’s plans is up for interpretation.
To SarrissaTieflingDruid:
It’s the Tomato in the Mirror aspect, to borrow the name of a relevant trope. When done right, it provides an amazingly delicious bit of inner conflict for the character and introspection for the reader. Who are you, after all, when a piece of your core identity is so irrevocably changed? What is it that you have become, now that there’s no going back to what you were before? How do you find your place in the world, now that you no longer belong to the world you knew?
I really like panel 3 which shows Danix inner helplessness so well. One fire claw and one relaxed hand on his knees after he has collapsed in despair since he can not be rid of his curse since his one hope was taken away. I wonder what the god will say to him? We will have to wait til Monday to see, I put my faith in the author/creator that it is something wonderful!
I feel like Tahrahim is definately not referencing himself, whatever is meant by those two sentences. First impression was that Dainix’s line meant “can you stop the storm”, and Tahrahim’s response was “this thing? heck no im not that powerful”- and you guys are breaking my head with all the other options XD. I still think “this chump” refers to Tynan.
Tahrahim is, amongst other things, also the local champion of the global crossword and scrabble championships. He doesn’t boast about it, but all his fellow god no longer invite him to parties, due to his ability to be cryptic even on something as simple as a word-game.
@TheUnknownGame
The way that Dainix is holding up his hand makes me think he’s talking to the hand, and therefore probably the demon through the hand. The way Tahraim is pointing up, rather than back at his chest makes me think he’s talking about Tynan and not himself. So I think most likely he’s asking the demon if it can kill Tynan, and Tahraim responding by calling Tynan a “chump” is him telling Dainix that the demon is not anywhere near powerful enough to kill Tynan, but compared to Dainix using the power of the demon inside him, Tynan is a total chump and would easily be defeated. That kind of sounds like the weird cryptic phrasing that Tahraim would use, where you have to puzzle out exactly what he means cause it isn’t immediately obvious, and once you’ve figured it out, you realize he’s making a profound statement of encouragement. Just by making you think about it for a sec, he’s making you drop your guard so you won’t immediately dismiss what it is he’s trying to say. Tahraim has mentioned that Dainix could walk out of the prison any time he wanted to, but he himself is doubting his ability and is holding his own self back. He probably wouldn’t accept that compliment to his ability if Tahraim went and said it simply.
You do you, but I think a lot of people would be initially very confused. We’d probably also have to find a way to retire that username (Like HelloHaiku, you’re kind of a comments-section cornerstone.)
I figured it’d be confusing, that’s why I haven’t done it. I just feel my username is a bit generic, but I’ve been using it so long it would be jarring to the comments section if I suddenly changed. I could’ve started with something else but that chance left months ago, I was too scared to use something I really wanted to. If I did change it’d probably be to “Bluefire” or something relating to Ronan the Shiny Groudon that I’ve come to lavish disproportionate attention on.
Well I changed my username and nobody really reacted, but I guess I’m not really a comments cornerstone since I haven’t been here long enough. But if people do get confused, it only takes a comment to explain that u changed names.
There’ll be initial confusion but people will get used to it
so do we think Tahraim is the teacher Dainix mentioned? They don’t seem too familiar, but maybe? Maybe it’s Caliban? Although it’s unclear if they’ve ever met, at least that Dainix is aware of. Maybe it’s an offscreen ignan we’ll never meet.
HI cool magic effects also not to be a child but first
Dainix 🙁 this page is sad
Ali sends in roots.
Dainix doesn’t look too good…
Oh! Hey there, Tahraim!
Damm
“this guy? yeah no”
Excited to see some more of Tahraim’s cryptic life-coaching
Time to see some flaming boy angest.
Hey there blacksmith. Been a while.
Dainix is… he’s… he’s smoking hot /canned laughter/
Red you’re killing us. Come on! SIDE PROFILES!?!?! JUST SHOW US WHATS UP WITH HIS DAMN EYE ALREADY!!!
Since ya’ll can’t hear my tone of voice, I mean Red no harm and am not that mad.
But srsly!? Side profiles!?!
On a much less aggressive note. Hi Tahrahim, you didn’t strike me as the kinda guy that said the word chump
Wait, is that another body partially inhabited by the ‘demon’? or is this a god. I don’t quite remember him.
Now I’m expecting some sort of deal to be struck, or sage advice dispenssed, giving flamey boy here a serious power up.
Could he build Dainix in a limiter till an actual solutionshows itself?
Given how the beginning of this chapter has gone so far, I’d assume we’ll get another scene change in the next two pages, this time to Erin and Tess.

Oh, Tahraim! We’re about to get some knowledge… or a weapon. Maybe?
Love how Red keeps me guessing.
…..so the arm thing is permanent?
this page’s image source: chance
everyone in this is so cool looking
Okay now, what is Tharaim doing here.
wow those steam effects when raine touches our hot boi
once again, keeping the eye hidden via a side-profile shot this time
The empty arena is kind of eerie. Tahraim is a surprise, but a very welcome one.
Zuurith: Tahraim?! Just how many gods are running around my city!?
Caliban: ‘sup.

:0 the boye
Danix; man, o wish tarahim was here
Kendal; yeah he’s the best.
*door swings open*
Tarahim: HEY GUYS!
All: TARAHIM!
(Based on there Ryan meme)
OH HEY IT’S THAT GUY WE KNOW!
TL;DR: Sorry my boy, can’t help you with this one. Oh look there some strange green glowy stuff on that mountain.
Oh hey its forge guy! How ya been?
I wonder if this is causing Alinua flashbacks to the last time she actively tried to break open the stone with plants all the way back in chapter 2.
To Evil Tree:

I found your self-insert, Red. Its the character with the most glorious hair-ah fuck, thats all of them, nvm
