BAD TOUCH! STRANGER DANGER!
The art these last few pages has been great; the constant, but not overbearing, rain; the lightning and lighting to go with it; and I think I see a blue glow on Kendal’s sword in the first panel. You can just tell Vash is watching and is having an even worse time now.
Yep, I knew Kendal would step in; he may have no love for Zuurith but he won’t let someone like Tynan kill innocent people. Still what can Kendal do? Talk is ineffective against him, Tynan’s body can easily regenerate and I don’t think that sword has enough power without a full god using it. Still it gives the citizens time to get somewhere safe.
“Teach them a lesson”. Hmm, I wonder why he’s taking Kendal out of the arena in that case; he has a captive audience here to showcase his superiority over them all. Maybe he’s moving to the city hall or some other official place to show off to the higher ups.
Prediction for next week: Dainix despairs before resolving to help, possibly with a slight nude from disguised Caliban. Maybe he reasons that the best way for him to kill the demon is to fully burn up Tynan’s storm with the fire, both saving the city and his friend and no longer put anyone else in jeopardy. (I’m thinking something like Alinua Vs. the Sentinel)
This is more directed at @Sunstorm the Budgie from last page but you can’t just say “title text is hilarious lmao” and NOT give it to the people who can’t view it >:(
Don’t worry guys, I know from Ninjago that fire is more powerful than lightning(in the first episode the fire ninja beats the lightning ninja) so I’m sure Dainix will win in the end!
I’m imagining the floof squad chasing after the bird, exhausted from running. Then it abruptly changes direction and their just like, “Seriously!!!”. Is kinda funny, but also poor Erin. He’s had to do so much running today.
So, the message bird is going to change course to match Kendal’s abduction. When Alinua and Falst (finally) get to him, I feel like they might actually be of some help, as Alinua can trap or tear apart Tynan’s incarnations and create barriers between him and civilians, and Falst could help evacuate those civilians so that Alinua can go all out; she won’t have to worry about collateral damage if there’s no collateral for her to damage.
Eesh, that must be awkward; just a partially transformed and actively burning Dainix in full view of thousands of people. Granted, those people might start flooding out of the arena soon to evacuate their homes before Tynan starts flooding them out of those, and I have a hunch that Dainix is going to follow the lightning to help the one friend he’s found throughout this whole sh*tty ordeal.
(Conveniently located bangs still prevent us from knowing what’s under Dainix’s now-destroyed bandage…)
Registrar: That was a good one. I have to commend you on you pun.
Okay, we’re all set up for chapter 16! I was surprised that Tynan is taking Kendal elsewhere, though maybe he wants a more open space so he can really show off. Or maybe there’s somewhere else with a lot of people who can watch, like the middle of town or the market. I wonder if the birb Erin sent will still head to the arena, or suddenly veer off course and head to wherever they’re going. Given Dainix’s exclamation when Kendal starts standing up to Tynan, I feel like he might run into Falst and Alinua while trying to find where they went so he can help (I mean, if you’re exploding, might as well explode on a bad guy) and they could go together to be backup for Kendal. Mostly, though, I predict at one-on-one fight, given the chapter cover. Mostly though I’m wondering where the heck they just went.
Alright, so thanks in part to @Point, ya’ll are getting a PASTRIVIA for the weekend! What was the name of the desert Dainix grew up in?
A: The Balatrix Desert?
B: The Pouronog Desert?
C: The Rauan Desert?
D: The Ignan Desert?
Gift Horse: The Yathxl Desert?
*clears throat* ? JUMP UP KICK BACK WHIP AROUND AND SPIN! TIME TO FIGHT TYNAN AGAIN
KENDAL!
GO!
DAINIX!
GO!
COME ON, COME ON, COME ON, AND BEAT THE VILLAIN, YEAH! ?
So he’s either trying to bluff Tynan (Vash being right-handed), picked up the sword with his off-hand, is secretly ambidextrous, or it’s a side-effect of channeling his connection to Vash more strongly than we’ve seen in quite some time (have we ever seen the sword’s blade glow before, or is this like Sting and it glows only under certain conditions?)
Should be interesting whatever the case…
Also, I’m curious as to where Tynan’s taken Kendal (or at least, I assume that that’s what’s happened, and not Tynan repeating his little thunderbolt trick and us seeing it from Dainix’s perspective). If he wanted to give the people of Zuurith a lesson and a show, the majority of them are already in the audience…Unless there’s an ulterior motive to his seeking a new location. Zuurith’s hall, perhaps–the seat of his power? Or is he seeking an even larger audience than can be contained within a single city’s walls…?
(Wherever it is, I hope it’s not too far away. Logistics of mounting a rescue aside, Kendal’s already been having a bit of a rough day, and the poor guy was probably not built with travel-by-storm in mind. Considering he’s got metal woven into his bones, the experience being unpleasant is probably understating things a little. (Which may be in part why Tynan took him, now that I think about it…))
I wonder what Erin and Tess are doing right now? They must have been able to see the lightning at the Arena and deduce what that means. They could easily follow it and beat Falst and Alinua there. Maybe they’re going around trying to recruit wind, water and lightning mages? When the city’s on the line they could use all the help they can get. Maybe Erin’s gone to alert the Paladins? I’d like to think that they have more than just librarians stationed there, and I’m sure they’d jump at the chance to defend a city from what is essentially a divine terrorists. How long will it take for Zuurith to reincarnate? Will he take Tynan’s abilities into account and put together a body that can withstand his powers? Or has his ego been so thoroughly wounded that he basically incarnates in a dad bod and lounges on a couch, depressively eating potato chips while Pryder tries to get him to turn off the TV?
Oh shit oh shit oh shit oh shit. I’m imagining Alinua and Falst on their way to the arena seeing the lightning arc back up into the sky, and the message birb suddenly swerves towards it. Instant heart attack material.
Also oof, Dainix is just breaking my heart every time he speaks.
Given the crowd in the arena, and how it was built, there really is no better place in Zuurith to fight or gloat over Kendal. So, my guess is that either Tynans really sedimental and doesn’t want to kill the last remnant of Vash, is afraid of The Collector, (Unlikely since he’s a storm, but possible.), or-possibly-wants to take him somewhere private to possess him and use him. After all, ghosts can possess people, and gods and ghosts are both souls.
Hermit Thrush and leapyeargirl96: I’m amazed how many shared interests the people in this comments section have. Maybe this comic just attracts a certain kind of people. I definitely feel it’s a lot more hospitable than most online places, and I’m happy to have my own tiny niche here.
@Person McPerson
Isn’t that because jay is a goof and Kai is moderately better than him? Don’t quote me on that because I’m not an avid fan of the show, I’ve just seen a couple episodes.
I think Tynan must have some goal other than just breaking these people’s spirits. Hurting Kendal is probably more of a straight revenge thing for him.
I mean, why would Tynan think that killing Kendal, the guy who just showed up like three days ago and who has spent nearly his entire stay in prison avoiding any kind of confrontation, teach these people more of a lesson than incinerating their literal god in front of them?
@Skye
I think it’s because Dainix burned his left arm. Kendal heals fast but I can’t imagine his arm is back to normal after the minute or so that’s passed since then.
“YOURE GOING TO HELP ME TEACH THEM A LESSON.”
THAT SMILE. THAT SMUG, KNOWING SMILE. OH THAT WAS MORE SUSPENSEFUL THAN IF THEY JUST STARTED FIGHTING OH MY GOSH-
I CANNOT THINK, I CANNOT TYPE, RED YOU N A I L E D THE EVIL & DRAMATIC VILLAIN SIDE OF TYNAN AND ALL CAPS NO LONGER SATISFIES MY EMOTIONS *screeching*
Oh look, glowing eyes in panel 3. Hey Vash.
@Draconia: yeahh never trust the comments section when the page first posts, *nothing* loads correctly.
@PersonMcPerson, @Somebody, @Hermit Thrush, @leapyeargirl96, @ImuyanMangoCat (sort of)
So many Ninjago fans??!? I was NOT expecting to find that when I woke up this morning. we stopped watching after season 6 when it was actually that short (I cant believe its still going its SO LONG now). And yea its bc jay is a goof. Also if we’re being technical kai’s ego/pride/ stubbornness is like twice the size of the moon, so the roles could be reversed lmao
@Skye: Ambidextrous, he’s used both before.
@Steve, Lord of Darkness: ooh interesting theories- I’m laughing at the Zuurith couch potato one lmao
@icarusancalion: “…profit?” *spits out drink* PFFFFFT that made me laugh lmao. Also, interesting theory.
I wasn’t expecting all the Ninjago fans either. I still follow the show, because I like it but, most importantly I think, it’s been going a long time and I like a sense of stability or consistency. I like waking up to know another season is coming. That’s partly why I like this webcomic, it updates on a regular schedule.
Also I collect the buildable animals from LEGO because I enjoy finally being able to customize animal figures without getting super glue everywhere (the saddles on other dragon figures or permanently posed tails bothered me). Those included the Ninjago dragons and creatures, that’s what got me into the show.
okay so in the interests of *science*, who else here is a fan of:
-Mystery Skulls Animated (YouTube)
-Lost Song (Netflix)
-Mob Psycho 100 (VRV/Crunchroll, I think?)
-Princess Tutu (I have no idea my friend has it on DVD)
-Rise of the Guardians (movie, available on Netflix)
-Cursed Princess Club (Webtoons)
I thought Rise of the Guardians was neat, and I watched one video by Mystery Skulls Animated a while back. I thought it was cool but never followed up on that.
Never seen any of those, actually, save some clips of “Rise of the Guardians” (though I’m definitely aware of both film and fandom). It’s one I’ve been meaning to take a look at (studying animation)
To Dragonmaster66: Has he? I’m gonna have to go back and look–it’s been a while since I’ve read some parts of the comic, and I’ve admittedly forgotten in those parts which hand he was using and how much/if he was channeling Vash at the time.
To probably:
Fair. But I swear he’s taken worse damage and still used the injured limb (though it is admittedly difficult to see how badly he’s burned right now)
Hermit Thrush:
Sorry, the only one of those I’ve ever even heard of is Mob Psycho 100. I’ve got my own circle of beloved obscure/overshadowed media (mostly games). Off the top of my head:
– The Arcana (Nix Hydra Studios) (technically a visual novel, not a full-on game)
– Pyre (Supergiant Games)
– Aquapunk: The First Law (a webcomic, I think the author’s name is “Lo”?)
– Hyper Light Drifter (Heart Machine)
– 2064: Read Only Memories (can’t remember the development team’s name)
The audience was informed that Kendal is the last survivor of the city of Vash. Tynan has graciously reminded the audience that he only honoured Vash’s oath because Vash could stop him. Then they saw Tynan smite Zuurith, whose incarnation disintegrated. I think Tynan could have gained a lot more terror if he’d simply stayed at the arena and toyed with Kendal for a while, but it seems likely that Tynan wants this to be more personal. The fear he’s instilled is likely enough in his eyes to give him an adequate boost in power, so I would not be surprised if he’s whisked Kendal away so that he can exact his revenge on his own terms while his storm drowns the city in the background.
@many people: My interest in the series waned around the ghost arc, but I’m glad so many fans of it are here 🙂
@Hermit Thrush: To answer your questions:
Yes (I am hyped for this October)
No
No (but I know a few people who are)
No
I would be, if I didn’t forget most of the movie
And I’ve seen the last two around on Webtoon, but I don’t actually read them.
(Although Toaster Dude does seem like a cool comic ;-))
@Hermit thrush
Yes I am a fan of rise of the guardians, that movie is quite underrated. I haven’t seen it in a while tho, I might rewatch it whenever my family holds a movie night
Love the tiny lil no in panel 2
uh-oh
Oh shit that’s not good
Tynan is just having the time of his life
But what about the message birb?
welp
that’s not good
That’s a tiny “no”.
Tynan grabs ahold UH OH
and away they go…
YEET!
Dainix just bein’ ignored is such a mood(also first comment 🙂
well, my page clearly hadn’t loaded, hello friends. Also just gotta say this man is reveling in his villainy
@blarmy blar blar It’s tracking to Kendal, so either Tynan zaps it out of the sky or it changes course to wherever he got taken.
And cue Falst and alinua j u s t missing them
This page’s image source: lesson
Oh, next chapter’s gonna be SPICY~
Yeeeeet
Huh, I don’t think anyone expected Tynan to just grab Kendal and bolt. …bolt? Get it? …I’ll see myself out. But seriously, this is tense.
@blarmy blar blar : Message birb goes “brrrrr” and suddenly changes direction towards Zuurith’s main city square / market place.
Heroes are so predictable — always doing the right thing. Weren’t all of these people just ravening for Kendall’s blood like three minutes ago?
Tess Ruunaser eat your heart out
Somewhat I feel like tynan might not be much of a good teacher.
Oh no, Kendall’s getting the Barry Allen treatment!
So Tynan just keep using electricity, but everyone’s hair remains soft and fluffy.
DAMN what shampoo does everyone use? I MUST KNOW!
BAD TOUCH! STRANGER DANGER!

PersonMcPerson:
Hey I found someone else who knows about Ninjago. Neat.
Alt text: off to the next chapter!
this is clearly one of the lesser ones.

*sighs* The commute to go save Kendal is going to be a real pain in the butt.
@harmless_spider They’re on the Archive page linked at the top.
oh my godddds. I didn’t think it was possible to be this excited to read more. My mind is racing.
I wonder what Erin and Tess are doing right now? They must have been able to see the lightning at the Arena and deduce what that means. They could easily follow it and beat Falst and Alinua there. y o i n k
D
Whoa. Didn’t see that coming.
@The Registrar: *snerk*
And with that tiny little “no,” Dainix wakes up and starts exercising some Agency.
I love this. There are so many directions it could go.
A – This is Kendal’s Balrog moment.
B – This is the Major Defeat, and Alinua will have to put Kendal back together.
C – This starts a new quest to try to rescue Kendal from Tynan’s Bond villain-esque theatrical revenge.
D – …profit?
But we don’t know the extent of Dainix’ powers.
What is the opposite of a god? A demon.
What’s inside Dainix? A demon.
Who can tackle Tynan? All together… “_________________!”
Ahhh, flashbacks to “Invincible Takes the Subway” I see
@Humanoid Clay I think it’s C:The Rauan Desert
@icarusancalion That doesn’t really seem like what a demon is in this world.
well…. at least he didn’t disintegrate him
…. well… at least he didn’t vaporize him
oops, sorry I wrote that comment twice.
@Humaniod clay, I’m pretty sure it’s D.
@Person mc person, just because Kai is stronger than Jay doesn’t mean fire is stronger than lighting
I went to 12.10 in a reread and Danix is probably the stagnating champion check it out
I think Dainix is blessed by the goddess of fire not cursed by a demon look at 12.10 where it mentions her stagnating champion.
* Dainix*
Given the crowd in the arena, and how it was built, there really is no better place in Zuurith to fight or gloat over Kendal.
