Erin trying very hard to look like he didn’t just sprint through the city chasing a magic bird
Erin trying very hard to look like he didn’t just sprint through the city chasing a magic bird
Yessss, Badass Erin Entrance!!
HELL YEAH, ERIN!
I’m looking forward to seeing how Erin’s authority will clash with Zuurith’s laws
Oh my god, what an entrance! It‘s showoff time for awesome looking powers
here king you dropped this ?
the people in the next house over have no idea how fitting their music choice is
for reference for those who can’t see, the alt text says: *”i need a hero” plays muffled through the nearest wall*
Shrike doesn’t seem to know Erin, or that he is the elemental magus, since she seems to think that letting go of metal objecrs will remove Erins ability to crush her into the ground. She probably thinks he is a very powerful stone mage.
And what is up with Shrikes eyes in panel one? Just a error in line art, or something entirely different?
Arriving late… Is Erin the true protagonist, then?
“I Would Like To Speak To The Manager” 2: Electric Boogaloo
also, points to Shrike for a fashionable recovery, I mean Erin is being very awesome here and she be like “hello there, i’m in charge!”
The only reason Erin managed to sprint after the bird is that he was feeling so pumped imagining how cool his entrance would be
Very fashionable. Very fashionable indeed
@Solarion Pretty sure it’s just her extression combined with the art style, her eyes are more narrowed than they’ve been drawn before.
Erin’s going a bit Karen. Seriously though, I love how this is likely what his father is like. Erin may be arrogant but he’s usually not so cold or haughty.
erin finally
Now that is metal-magic :3
Erin asking to see the manager, part 2.
I wasn’t expecting such a badass entrance but in hindsight, remembering the lavasplosion, I really should have.
I appreciate the irony of Shrike, after using stone magic to manipulate metal to great effectiveness these past two chapters, getting herself and her bois trapped Magneto style by the more powerful Erin.
Confident stride forwards, non-casting arm behind his back and demanding to speak to the manager (now from a position of power). Yep, Erin is back in his element, but from Shrike’s smile in the last panel we’re not quite out of the woods yet.
Hold on. Look at panel 4, Alinua has a little plant growing in her hand, likely part of their now aborted vine to the rooftops plan. Nice detail. You can also see a little smile on Falst in panel 6, maybe Tess’s explanation has directed his anger over the slavery to Galen rather than Erin. Or maybe he just appreciates the save from a very hairy situation.
Thanks Erin 🙂
Superhero-landing! SUPERHERO-LANDING!!!
Also Erin totally pulled off his “I didn’t just chase a magical bird”-entrance, I totally forgot about that for a while
Hot take:
Erin is not the real Elemental Magus. He’s a super nerd who discovered a way to tattoo power on, like the chimeric afflictions, and is using that to claim the Magus’ clout and access in order to try to research and change the situation Tess grew up through. That is until more… immediate problems arose, looking at you Voidy
@Hii I just thought it was a neat question.
Dang Erin looks cool in the 4th panel, simp worthy even. Not that I’m switching from Falst tho.
I’m still sticking with my theory that he stopped for a moment to catch his breath so he could do a cool entrance without being winded
WOOOOO YEAH BABY
Hell yeah, I love a good badass entrance. Erin you my friend are deserving of some respect
“Hello there!”
“General Ruunaser.”
This is such a good reminder that Erin is not just a fancy-titled diplomat-guy but a walking powerhouse.
What an entrance!
TL;DR: Mr. Hubris finally gets his heroic entrance & rescue of the team. Can we have some applause?
I am irrationally so mad a strike for being so unimpressed.
Honestly, I entirely forgive all of Erin’s showboating and overconfidence up to this point solely based on how both well put together this entrance is. Stylish and effective!
Yoooo his arm tattoos are HELLA COOL even though they’re super tiny 😀
He he. Mr. “I have privilege and know how to use it” has shown up to save the day. Now what move is he going to use next? The classic “I want to speak with your manager,” or maybe a specialized “we’re from a different city and not subject to your laws.” Maybe he’ll admit that they plan to leave the city tonight. Or, Shrike could piss him off enough he looses his patience and the epic chase scene begins again.
2nd panel when Shrike looks confused, she must’ve thought “why do I hear boss music?”. 5th panel Erin looks so done with the situation, like “These miscreants are not worth my time, but for the gang – I’ll use 1% of my power.”. 6th panel Erin looks like he’s not gonna stop walking.
OH MAH GAHD I JUST REALLIZED THAT ERIN USED THE BORB TO TRACK DOWN THE GANG! Now THAT’S what I call a smart use of magic!
To colorless: hmmmm… interesting theory! Perhaps, perhaps.
Erin my boy! Your timing is impeccable.
My my, how the turns have tabled. I wonder if Shrike specifically gave her boys metal armor so she could use stone magic on them if needed and now she’s fallen victim to that as well. Though, given that, she is able to escape pretty quickly. I love how Erin’s eyes change color when he’s using stone magic, they look like Shrike’s now which is kind of cool. Finally, I love Falst’s little smirk in panel six. Like, “suckers, I have the power of the elemental magus and hubris on my side”.
Also, have any of you guys noticed how Erin has used every element except water? I think the situation just hasn’t warranted it yet, but I’m sad. I wanna see some water magic.
One arrogant mage against another in a battle of dialogue. This should be interesting, indeed.
I find it kind of funny that Erin is just going to keep a dozen dudes pinned to the walls the whole time he’s arguing with Shrike.
I do hope that Erin can manage to negotiate custody of the crime trio out of Shrike’s hands, but I have a sinking feeling that’s not going to happen; Shrike may accuse Erin of aiding fugitives (which he is) and capture him in turn (or try to, anyway). Unless, of course, Too-Many-Epithets up there decides to finally unleash a tempest on Zuurith…
Somebody:
*genuine applause*
FINALLY! A wild Erin has appeared. He uses complain to the manager! It’s super effective. (Hopefully) Shrikachu is greatly weakened. (Hopefully) a Tessachu, Falstasoar, and Alinuazard finish off Shrikachu, and the rest of the Huntertwos. (Hopefully) (I realize that all of these names are kind of cliched, I don’t know many Pokémon though…) In all seriousness though, I do hope that Shrike kinda gets her butt whipped. I know I said before that I didn’t want to whip her butt as much as the others, but I still want to see Mr. Sick Tats McHubris go full Elemental Magnus on a bad guy. We haven’t had any elemental battles in a while, and I really want to see Erin stop them.
Eventropy:
Yeah except his dad is probably 10 times more of a pain in the *ss. It is interesting to see Erin this way, he doesn’t seem to be in cocky diplomat mode, but he’s also not just sitting there casually.
Set up and payoff feels so good *slams desk*
You are a very good writer.
@Evil Tree, nice catch with the plant!
@Goldfinch, heck yeah, hoping to see some some tidal wave action!
And to everyone, apologies for the relative absence from trivia. It’s proven more difficult to be a makeshift oracle than I thought, as if come across a sort of creative block. I honestly don’t know if I can continue, even if I’ve just started. So, for now, Futurivia is on hiatus. Pastrivia is easier, so I may continue doing those. That’s it for now, best wishes to all :-).
on the topic of the alt text, that exact song was playing on the ride back home just now. talk about timing.
I’m a irrationally happy to see Erin again! I’m pretty sure he’s my favorite character. It’s really interesting to see him so mad and no-nonsense in these panels. And it’s equally interesting to see how unfazed Shrike is. I can’t wait to see how this next bit goes.
A few possibilities:
1. Erin talks and “priviledges” the crime trio to safety
2. Erin fails to talk his way out, and the trio + Erin have to fight out
3. Erin gets himself captured with the crime trio
4. Tyronn (I think that’s how you spell his name) interrupts the ensuing conflict with Plot!
I don’t think Erin can talk his way out of this one
I need a hero playing? I actually heard this song.
“We are the true believers
It’s our turn to show the world
In the fire of heavy metal we were burned
It’s more than our religion it’s the only way to live
But the enemies of metal (punchy lady 😀 ) we can’t forgive
Cause we believe in the power and the might
And the gods who made metal are with us tonight
The gods made heavy metal and they saw that is was good
They said to play it louder than Hell
We promised that we would
When losers say it’s over with you know that it’s a lie
The gods made heavy metal (punchy lady) and she’s never gonna die.”
Thinker of Too Many Thoughts:
His name is Tynan, not Tyronn.
Humanoid Clay:
I make my predictions known on every page now, but I’m no oracle either; no one is. You can’t foresee every possible outcome, and Red has a tendency to surprise us. You don’t have to keep doing Futurivia if you don’t want to. Pastrivia is definitely easier, and as I occasionally act as an unofficial conspiracy theory debunker in the comments, I for one appreciate those; it gives me a good excuse to remind people of little details they may have forgotten. Of course, this is pretty self-indulgent, and you shouldn’t be forced to keep doing those either. Take it easy if you need to.
ERIN!!! <3<3<3
“This is all just a HILARIOUS misunderstanding-“
What do you people think Shrike’s dagger is made of? because it wasn’t lifted by the magic even though the weapons of her team were.
it’s either something red missed or that dagger really can’t be affected by stone magic, take your pick.
Shit I havent been readin for a while. What a nice thing to come back to lol. Grand entrances 🙂
Whoever said that Erin would stop and catch his breath before strutting in really got it right.
Hey his bird spell isn’t in a flashy form this time! Makes sense, he was in a big hurry, cool detail!
@ I have a squirrel named floofy
Aren’t we all?
Neat little detail that I don’t think anyone noticed: Despite Alinua being the one who spoke, Erin is looking directly at Tess in panel 6.
My prediction: Erin attempts to privilege his way out of the fight —> it doesn’t work; shrike captures his friends and causes a big fight/scene despite Erin’s status —>Erin attempts to then privilege his friends out of custody by talking to someone higher up Zurith’s societal ladder, leading to Shrike being knocked down a peg by the very system she’s supporting, further proving what Tess said to be true: “it doesn’t matter how strong you are, all that matters is who’s in charge”
Honestly tho that’s only one prediction out of the hundreds swimming around my brain. Just, this specific one has been on my mind since I read the last page. I bet it’s gonna be totally wrong anyways, but it’s fun to think about what might happen next.
I keep forgetting how tall Tess is until we get a wide shot of her standing next to all the other characters and it’s like, “Oh wow, she’s a full head taller than Erin, and Erin’s not short.”
Panel 5 is giving me mad “Erin would make a *fantastic* villain” vibes
Tsk! Superhero landing is bad for the knees, Shrike; didn’t anyone tell you? Also, what’s she gonna do ALONE against the Elemental Magus, Alinua the Entangling, a pissed-off Falst, and Tess up and ready to kick some ass?
I do like how Shrike is shown as prepared by having such a small amount of armor, armor which can easily be removed. This shows us that while the rest were fully armored imagining a straight up fight, Shrike was prepared for someone to use a trick like that and prepared for that possibility. Which came quite in handy
“Well you could stop creating an international incident, for starters.”
@Colorless “Hot take:
Erin is not the real Elemental Magus.” Hot take: I’m pretty sure Erin’s dad had the soulshaper monks *make* him the elemental magus for some reason or another (Red’s been dropping hints and I may be wrong, but I think that might be where they lead)
Obscuria – and yet she still looks pretty confident. I’m worried that the answer to your question could be something like “pull out a Zuurith-approved badge and invoke her sanctioned authority as an enforcer of the Law God’s laws, in his own city, against people who are, in fact, entirely guilty of breaking said laws”. Even the Elemental Magus probably wouldn’t want to square off against an invoked avatar of Zuurith on his home turf, if it came to that.
Girls got hops
@Obscuria Shrike is still a stone mage tho. Imagine Toph’s chances against the rest of Team Avatar; or rather, MELON LORD’s chances. Generally, people with power over earth can easily level a playing field (pun intended).
Veggiesnake
Lollll!!! (But do they all have metal bending and Toph’s nicknaming ability?)
one funny option would be for Erin to say something along the lines of “that metal-caste woman is a known fugitive of Asera. Surrender her and her accomplices into my custody, per the extradition treaty of –“
Oh right, forgot he could do that. XD
@hermit thrush
yk i can see him doing that
Erin is now officially the coolest
His FACE on panel 5 is GLORIOUS
We dont get much of Erin being *completely* done, and I am living for this!
The first thing I’d do with metal bending…
*spoons rattling*
Hiii: he’s been missing for…. Lemme check…. Three uploads to be precise. Weird
Nice, what an entrance!
Not to fear, Erin is here.
Time to confront Shrike.
Huh. Using the message bird as a means of tracking someone. That’s a interesting way of using it.
Intended, or unintended feature, that’s the real question.
The Single Spaulder of Doom
looks hella cool though
Also, Erin looks especially great in the fifth panel
