Kendal: (Stands up straight) I don’t know why but I suddenly have an intense desire to punch a blonde stone mage.
Dainix: Yeah there’s a good many in this prison who share that sentiment.
Yep, there’s Shrike arresting the first Ferin she sees. Looking at her work with that Ferin alchemist I get the impression that she does this less out of racism and more out of opportunism. She may not be prejudiced but she takes full advantage of a prejudiced system.
Little crossbow like that can’t have too much power but that arrow was glowing as it hit Falst; Shrike uses stone magic to add more of a punch. Between this and the direct chain manipulation Shrike has come up with some effective ways of getting around Stone magic’s inherent slowness.
While Life may not have a reason to go crazy Alinua does, either she will bring her full power onto them or Tess will manage to work the sealing cuff off and lend a hand. At least that’s how I’m predicting it will go.
Before i comment i have to say that i am a big osp fan.and know red did not mean any harm but the ferin being animals comes with a major issue. From what i see they are an allegory for racism. (Correct me if i am wrong)and for a long time racists tried to dehumanise them by calling them savages or akin to animals So this holds some very gross stereotypes again i am being repectful and i still love this comic and find it fun even the ferin plotline in general is good without this fact. Some might say this is a deconstruction of that stereotype but it does not feel like it because they are so connected to being animals (their powers ) Add to the fact in the lore pages some ferins are actually unstable makes this allegory fall flat.Though i may be wrong
HOW DARE YOU! Shrike, you dare hurt Falst like that. Also using your stone magic to make it worse. HOW!!! DARE!!! YOU!!! I couldn’t figure out what Ali was seeing until I realised that she’s looking at Shrike (and her crossbow because yikes). Unless she isn’t. There is a line between the frames. But shrike IS standing in the right place with maybe one block between them that’s been edited out for reasons.
Ah well. I’ll find out soon enough.
NO. You do not just waltz in here and harm Edgy Fur Boi. I will rain HELLFIRE UPON YOU…! (or I would if Erin wouldn’t probably end up doing it for me.)
Lunging to conclusions (however correct they may be in context), violence that can be “excused” because it’s nonlethal, arresting people for stupid reasons… Shrike really is the ideal cop.
Have the Floof Squad yee’d their last haw? Is Shrike actually an awful shot but just cheats using stone magic? Does Shrike realize that she’s poking Alinua the Team Mom? Is Alinua going to confiscate Shrike’s bag of Temptations cat treats and put her in time out?
@Evil Tree
I think shrike may have used stone magic to pack more of a punch with the bolt, but I think the main reason was to get some stone into Falst so that she can cause some damage and control him that way.
Fuck, not even Kendal went that far in injuring Falst! Kendal just broke Falst’s fingers, while this bolt not only made two large surface wounds, but likely snapped some tendons as well!
aka Alinua changing the cities landmark from a prison mountain to a sprawling forest of giant trees. We will return to this city after a short ad break to witness the final results.
So I’m in the process of making a shifter character for d&d, which is great… but I keep inadvertently referring to him as a Ferin or Shifter Ferin and having to correct myself. It’s a little annoying.
I feel very out of place usually due to my low self confidence, and being the only one doing the TL;DR really helped that for a while. I was hoping you’d let me do them from now on, sorry if this comes off as rude, just scared at losing my one significant contribution as the only TL;DR person.
Seems to me that taking advantage of a racist system in this way is also racist, regardless of whether you’re doing it out of prejudice or convenience.
Everyone here crying racism can’t just relax and have some escapism. Not everything is racist. Not everything in fiction is supposed to relate to the real world. It’s obvious she’s doing this cause she gets paid, not because of the specific groups she targets. She was arresting Tess and Tess isn’t Ferin. She doesn’t target specific groups of people, much less target specific groups for being a part of that group.
Since there are a bunch of people who want to do weekly themed comments in here, and that is cool, but we need to make sure that everyone who already has a thing gets to keep that, I am offering up a list of other things people could do. Feel free to claim one of them or use it as inspiration.

1. life’s eyes and hands https://comicaurora.com/aurora/1-11-10/
as seen here when we see life in context of the collector we see her hand as when we see aliuna we see her eyes
i see multiple possibilities
a. the collector is lifes hands and does her bidding while aliuna is lifes eyes and how life sees the world
b.the collector sees only the works of life (her hands) while aliuna sees life itself (her eyes)
we see aliunas form completley covered with green lines. the collector is seen to only have as small part covered (https://comicaurora.com/aurora/1-11-28/) i think this means that the collector has barley even touched the mind
2. starmetal
i think the star metal that was weaved into vash’s incarnation in the battle tynan is adamant which is why the void dragon couldnt disintegrate kendall
Think you could provide examples of each? I’m looking for a new thing to contribute and it might help me get a feel for which (if any) might best fit my style (and schedule)
(Yes, I was doing the alt text, but Hermit Thrush is able to get to it sooner in the day than me, and I apparently wasn’t as clear or assertive as I should have been (which is an issue I have in general, apparently) in making clear that I still wanted to be the one to do it–and at this point it’s been a couple weeks, so it would be rude to reopen the issue as to who’s handling that. And someone else has been going through and doing the archived chapters, so there’s no point in revisiting that.)
Wait, I’m caught up, I’M CAUGHT UP! Hello everyone, I’m so glad I finally talk to you all now, and I’m excited to be part of the great community I have seen here :-)!
Braid girl is one of my most hated character personalities. Not because characters like her are evil/antagonistic and I don’t like that, but because they are like an evil Mary/Gary Sue. A veritable “I don’t even have to put effort in, everything and everyone just falls into place for me to be menacing, until the point that the protags prevail over me with less effort than my deus ex machina up until this set me up to.” They are menacing cuz they have a million henchmen to pester the protags like a swarm of flies, and the protags just pay them no attention, even though they time and time again prove they are the bigger threat.
Soldiers are dangerous, but by killing a General, you can destabilize the order of the soldiers, making them easier to handle.
Although I can see where you’re coming from with your concerns, I’m pretty sure that Red didn’t deliberately set out to invoke those particular stereotypes. That being said, history aside, it’s difficult to worldbuild a fantasy or sci-fi setting without having to incorporate them to some degree–working with a world inhabited by several species or races naturally means that each of those groups is going to have its own culture and viewpoint, and they are more than likely going to clash. Which means that, based on their respective histories and beliefs, each could easily point to the other and say, “We are superior to you because of x/You are inferior to us because of Y”, and try to make the other group fit into their viewpoint, regardless of what said other group has to say about it. And as our own history unfortunately attests, you don’t even need to have more than a single species–you just need two groups with differing viewpoints. (And the groups in question don’t need to be very old, either–remember the schoolyard cliques?)
As for the ferin being half-human…Well, such hybrids are fairly common if only because they’re exotic enough to promote the fantasy element while still being recognizable enough to identify with. There’s also the fact that writers tend to write what they know, and so we draw on the other living creatures we see for inspiration–not to mention it’s something of a wish fulfillment, since we can’t fly or breathe underwater or sense the planet’s magnetic field (in many ways, humans got the short end of the evolutionary stick–not only are we essentially sense-blind, we’re barely even built properly to walk on two legs and still safely have babies). Plus, when we do have to deal with a sticky topic…Well, as the only sapient species we’re currently aware of, it’s not like we run the risk of offending our fellow members of the animal kingdom when we need a character who we can use to address those issues. (It’s going to get very interesting if/when intergalactic politics ever becomes a thing… Given our preferences for hero characters in media, much of what we consume now–and which is in turn guided by even older standards (the Hays Production Codes, among other things)–is going to look horribly xenophobic in hindsight, and likely require a cultural soul-search and reckoning, much like the one we are already seeing today.)
Falst’s wrist can’t catch a break…
ALERT! ALERT! our boy just got shot
Aliuna: “I don’t live safely any more. Let’s go on an adventure in this nightmarish fashy police state!”
Aliuna: *does something dumb and is immediately captured*
Aliuna: “I don’t know what I expected.”
I really like the little added gleam of Shrike’s stone magic on the crossbow bolt.
EFF HER UP, ALINUA!!!!!
I love it when the mercenery villains are good at their jobs.
Alinua is about to do something drastic me thinks
I agree with you there Shrimp heaven now, something’s ’bout to go down.
Ohhhhhhh no. This is BAD. Poor Falst ;-;
Kendal: (Stands up straight) I don’t know why but I suddenly have an intense desire to punch a blonde stone mage.

Falst does cool parkour.
Time to make a getaway.
But got shot in arm.
HOW DARE YOU
Oh boy, Now she is really gonna go apeshit.

@Evil Tree, I feel the earth she’s wielding would also be just wet enough for her to wallow in.
Erin, when he inevitably finds out about this: I leave you all alone for ONE DAY and this is what happens!?
TL;DR: Oh boy, Erin’s about to get REALLY mad
Who could possibly expect catboy ninja skills to stand up to actual weaponry?
Erin: Leaves for 5 minutes.
Everyone else: *Fucks up*
That crossbow really should have been wrist mounted and shrikes shooting form is poor.
HOW DARE YOU! Shrike, you dare hurt Falst like that. Also using your stone magic to make it worse. HOW!!! DARE!!! YOU!!! Shots have been fired at the Catboy. Alinua throw her across town!
alt text: uh oh
Oh, and to everyone predicting Erin will come back after a quiet day to find the other two have gotten into chaos…
…there’s still a chance that VD Walter is currently rampaging through the archives and we just don’t know it yet (:

Wondering if Red will continue this, or give us cliffhanger and switch back to Erin/Kendal, killing us with suspense.
RELEASE THE PRIMORDIAL!

TL;DR: Tourist furry is being arrested by white lady for his friends shenaniganry.
Okay, Shrike, I used to think you’re cool. Now, I just want to watch you BURN.
So I’m in the process of making a shifter character for d&d, which is great… but I keep inadvertently referring to him as a Ferin or Shifter Ferin and having to correct myself. It’s a little annoying.

Aren’t stone mages supposed to be able to manipulate metal caste people?
Aha. “Wrap this up.” I get it.
Is Tess’s hair made of silver? it doesn’t seem that it can be ruffled by ANYTHING!
shrike’s crossbow pistol frightens me
(also, yk, shrike how dare you hurt the ferin and all that)
