The expression on panel 1 is fitting for a Monday morning update.
This is such a great page, no dialogue, only one character emoting, but it says so much. Erin is conflicted, worried about his friends here and in the prison but also mindful of the dragon. He also seems tired, from his restless night or maybe of this journey in general?
He isn’t even mad or surprised to find the damaged cape; he knows Alinua and maybe Falst attempted something and it doesn’t look like he blames them. He probably also knows their attempt wasn’t successful or else he wouldn’t have slept this long.
While he opted for the book over Kendal in his dream I get the feeling he’s compiling a message either to Zuurith officials to say they’re leaving, or one last shot at the archives before abandoning that endeavour.
Either Erin took a really long time to sit up or those clouds move really fast.
(Also if you look on pg 1.9.10 there is an awesome chart that shows where the elements connect to the body or something. I dunno… it’s cool.)
He honestly just looks tired… i mean, the kind of tired where everything just feels like too much and you’ve had enough but you keep going anyway… and honestly? i feel that
Frick the acrostics, someone else can take them. I’m analyzing the art! In the last panel the air element tattoo is glowing, indicating the messaging spell is air. Almost every surface has a slight gradient to emulate dawn light. The cape also has subtle dark smudges that show that the cape is also dirty.
Idk if any of those are obvious or if they see, far fetched this was just a lot easier to do than acrostics lol
@Dark Wolf. Yeah your right. It looks pretty cool,
lightning = brain, like the signals that the nervous system carries
Stone = the throat I think, I don’t really get this one but I’m not sure if it’s the throat or something else
Air = lungs, obvious explanation
Water = heart, I’m surprised that it’s not life instead tho technically you need water to live. Or maybe it’s because the heart pumps liquid.
Fire = belly, in ATLA they said that, correct me if I’m wrong, the fire chakra is found in the stomach so this kinda makes sense
In 1.9.9 you can also see some diagrams of mutation.
@Indigo Toxin
maybe stone is in the vocal cords more than the throat in general. it seems to make sense to me, humans are capable of using their vocal cords to make a variety of types of sounds(maybe symbolising all the different types of rocks) some of which could be described as sounding quite stone like(admittedly its not the strongest explanation, since vocal cords can also produce sounds that could be likened to air, fire, water and lightning), anyway thats just my interpretation
Unrelated, but can I just real quick say how much I love the dissonance between Falst and the other three protagonists?
“Kendal, the second occupant of the body of a god!”
“Alinva, an elven healer who takes the shape of the life primordial!” (or something to that effect)
“Erin, the elemental magus, able to wield all six elements and internally fights an evil god!” and then
“Falst. He stole Erin’s bag once.”
Okay, can we all just appreciate the utterly unimpressed expression in panel 5? Erin may be kind of an idiot, but not for a lack of awareness of what makes other people tick.
Ooh, Erin’s about to perform a communication spell; my guess is he’s sending it to Kendal, telling him to sit tight and stay strong.
Indigo Toxin:
The Last Airbender didn’t invent the concept of chakras; I can’t remember whether it’s a thing in Buddhism, Hinduism, both, or just a general cultural practice, but chakras are a thing in at least India and Bangladesh, if not southeast Asia as a whole. The creators pulled a bit of cultural appropriation by including them in TLA.
Safe prediction: the clouds outside are Tynan come to throw down
Not Unreasonable prediction: Tynan is the thing Tess has been trying to warn Erin about, possibly believing him ending The Storm has somehow caused Tynan’s arrival
Completely Out There prediction: Zuurith becomes an unexpected ally to Kendal & gang when Tynan starts causing trouble; like them or not he can’t let his city be destroyed, and with Vash gone Kendal is the best bet for defeating Tynan again.
TheUnknownGame:
I don’t think Erin’s sending a message to Kendal. It appears in 1.12.33 that Erin needs to invoke wind magic in order to receive a message, so Kendal would be unable to read any such message.
Sig Figs:
On that page, Erin was using wind magic to essentially pause the message until Falst got down, so that it wouldn’t start playing immediately.
So – I just finished reading the whole thing so far, and my only question would be: who’s gonna be the big guy?
I mean, assuming Kendal counts as the leader, Erin being a good fit for smart guy, Alinua being the heart and our feral friend falst being a likely candidate for the lancer role, big guy is the only one missing, right?
in any case, I kind of pity the poor fella, cause he’s gonna need to compare to no less than two potential world breakers and a tank who can break stone with his hands, all three beings with bonds to the divine. At least Falst can just fill the “nimble rogue” territory without concurence.
Did Erin make his choice? Where is Falst? Did he totally bail on Alinua and go back to the prison after they returned to the hotel room? Did I almost miss posting this on the day of the page’s release? Was I too distracted explaining the complex rules of crokinole to my unenlightened friend that the time just escaped me?
I now see that my perception of time over the last few days was simply just borked and I had in fact forgotten to check on Monday, so this was actually two days late. Two points for sleep deprivation!
Outside, the clouds loom.
Ominous and foreboding.
The sun’s peeking through.
(Bonus)
He sees his torn cloak.
He isn’t even surprised.
Just disappointed…
Oh wow the drawings on this page are lovely!
Filename is “sigh”
Enough said

Behold the return of the messenger birb
he woke up not screamin’ this time

Damn that first panel coloring though o_o
A true detective at work. Erin just put everything together just by looking at his buddies.

TL;DR: That face when you have to wake up because of school or work, but you hate it soooooo much.
Side note: sometimes I sleep like this, and I don’t think doing that gives me neck pain. Perhaps it’s different from person to person.

My question is whether Erin is listening to the last message again, or sending a new one?
Now if only the skies had had a reddish tint, I could have snuck in a LoTR reference

Lookin kinda cloudy out there
The lighting is so nice
It really do be like that on monday
Those clouds are bringing either a violent storm god hellbent on vengeance or a lot of rain. Either way, my picnic is ruined.
The lighting was really nice on this page

Tune in This Week to Find Out!
I assume it must be a timezone difference, but my clocks say it’s 11:59 as I’m typing this, yet it shows up as 12:59… So I guess I was a day late…
