Your comment reminds me of The Lord of the Rings: The Two Towers (the book, not the movie), when two-thirds of the fellowship, along with King Theoden and some soldiers of Rohan, talk with a defeated Saruman. Saruman, being the powerful wizard he was, was able to make himself sound better than everyone around him; compassionate, wise, pitiable, or clement, as the situation required, while everyone else by comparison sounded like angry fools to those caught in his spell. It wasn’t until Saruman started to lose his temper himself, against the individuals of the parlay that were cunning enough to resist the spell’s effect, that the spell started to crack.
In conclusion: J. R. R. Tolkien was masterful at writing vivid and memorable scenes like this one. If you watched and liked the Lord of the Rings movies, or if my summary of this particular scene interests you, I implore you to read the books when you can. (they’re so good, you guys) (even if there are two dozen more songs and poems scattered about than might be necessary)
Trying to utilise the extra lore pages to sway minds? For shame Jolon.
So, he’s always wanted a Ferin to study to help his experiments; it puts Falst theft of the lacrima in a new light. I bet Jolon was quite frustrated in finally finding a Ferin only to lose the means to perform his experiments.
Love the put-down Falst delivers to Jolon; seeing him laugh in his face like that is great (and makes him look even more Wukong-esque). Also reaffirms how smart/wise Falst is to not buy into Jolon’s speech (slightly less Wukong-esque).
I think that if Falst learns of the gangs situations he may see them as the “better option” as Jolon puts it. Think about it. A god’s incarnated body with a soul and free will of their own; a mage with a connection to the life primordial herself; the elemental magus carrying the power of void; he may reason that if a cure for the Ferin curse is possible there’s every chance it’ll come from one of them.
I was kinda afraid for falst for a second. But now it seems that he has the same attitude as Erin had towards the dragon. Which makes falst 1000x more likable
Red, a page with so much text was an absolute blessing. And the details of Erin and Kendal while they spoke was great
Also, Falst’s line “Here I was thinking you were some kind of mad genius” seems to have… pushed some buttons…
What BETTER option? Power of friendship and three people who have been recently possessed by a god and two primordials! And you think some whack scientist from the bushes is a better option then that?
Guys. Jolon says he’s been forced to settle for simple trial and error. And those chimeras are remarkably intelligent, far more so than any we’ve seen so far. And they’re all named. Is this situation closer to Shou Tucker than we had guessed? I dont think it’s too out of character for him to be trying to replicate the curse on humans, what if those are his failed experiments? Or am I reading too far into it and they’re just really intelligent chimeras?
I’m pretty sure “trial and error ” just refers to going into the forest and hoping he’ll run into a Ferin.
Then again, I know Red likes FMA and I wouldn’t put it past her to traumatize us again.
If that does happen my money is on the spelleater absorbing a good deal of the magic, not enough to prevent itself, Jolon and the bear from being mutated but enough so that it won’t reach the gang.
Of course then the gang would be faced with a monstrous fusion of Jolon, his spelleater and the bear.
If you mean she’s not there on the page, she’s still unconscious and bleeding out.
If you mean she’s not engaged in the situation *because* she’s unconscious and bleeding out, my guess is that she’s either dreaming or blacked out. (Considering that she was knocked unconscious due to an injury, either the blunt force of the chimera’s attack/her impact with the ground or her going into shock, I think it’s more likely that she’s blacked out; but then again, Life is kinda screwy with Alinua’s subconscious, as we’ve seen before. Plus, what’s happening inside Alinua’s head right now might never even be explained in-story.)
oh look Jolon just lost his composure
Seems Jolon isn’t the kind of person who likes to be told: “No.”
Considering he’s been told “no” by the Academy for years, it’s understandable (albeit still dickish) for him to react like this to Falst.
/i love it when characters act in-character.
OK, Jolon no longer looks cute. At all.
*inster SupaHotFire OOOOOOH here*

Who here hopes our feral boi scratches the hell out of this doctor?
Aye!
Aye!
Aye!
Aye!
Eye!
(As in, GO FOR THE EYES!)
Carpe jugulum Falst! Carpe jugulum!
Invoke the spirit of Greebo!
Aye
I love how Jolon’s face went from being dorky and happy to I will curse your family for seven generations!
btw Jolon’s charecter page bit got updated
When you succeed your Wisdom save against a mage’s charm spell.

Oh Jolon. Don’t you see. You’ve let this guy get within a few feet of your magic eating snake.
No means no, Jolon

Kick his smug ass Falst!
What BETTER option? Power of friendship and three people who have been recently possessed by a god and two primordials! And you think some whack scientist from the bushes is a better option then that?
Even if he does have a glowing magic danger noodle…
Don’t forget the opportunity to go on an epic quest! The party could use s thief

He’s probably trained his chimeras, like how some people train pets to do tricks… except with a much more malicious intention.
I’m pretty sure “trial and error ” just refers to going into the forest and hoping he’ll run into a Ferin.

Jolon’s getting angry! Who wants to bet the bear reacts to his growing anger and crunches the lacrima?
I don’t want to, because bad things will happen, but it looks like that’s what’s going to happen…
If that does happen my money is on the spelleater absorbing a good deal of the magic, not enough to prevent itself, Jolon and the bear from being mutated but enough so that it won’t reach the gang.

what a spelleater?
Go back five pages, it’s explained there.
Jolon is no mad genius. He’s a mad mediocre person.
Well, the magic eater is confirmed not to be human, and Falst actually SAW Jolon using the lacrima on a bear, so I’m going to say “No” to this one.
ugh, sorry… This was supposed to be a reply to Starsailor
“Thus we parted ways”
You mean you got expelled
Ooh… an ultimatum, I believe this is where the hero or aspiring hero does something dramatic.
I think Falst may attack Jolon or in some way assist the floofians, maybe attack danger noodle
wonder what Alinua’s up to, she’s not *there*…

TL;DR: Suddenly, exposition. Dr. J wants Beast Boy to be his lab rat. Beast boy says no. Vashn’t is also fighting chimera bear.
I was gonna make a “Falstian bargain” pun, but this proposition is so weak that it’s not worth it.
