Well, I’m rooting for him.
Also, the whole concept of prisoning one of these immortal beings for “eternity” is horrifying. I doubt they were even polite enough to fix his prison up with an internet connection. It’s enough to make anyone a little angry.
Mmmm – I personally think that the rune that goes with the dragon is the coolest – and Erin dared to say that HIS tattoos are better! Mind you, I’m biased as a hardcore dragon fan in any shape or form.
The moons are called Sword and Shield. If you go back a page or two, to the page with a panel of Stone charging at the Void Dragon, he’s holding two weapons: a sword and a shield in the same color as the moons! The names aren’t just random, Stone’s weapons literally became the moons of this world!
Something made by all the elements can be unmade only by someone who controls all the elements… The Twins where about to give this entity the keys to his prison!
Still, we need to figure out how it kept consuming stuff even after it was trapped…
Nice catch, also I figure it doesn’t necessarily need to keep consuming stuff. If it’s basically a black hole shaped like a dragon then black holes don’t have to constantly absorb stuff, they just do it now and then over the millenia.
It would have consumed every star in existence one by one if the primordials weren’t there on the scene. Most black holes that we know of wouldn’t even get close to absorbing that much stuff.
In response to Heliogabalus, (for some reason I can’t reply directly) an eternity itself is horrifying. No matter how you entertain yourself you’ll become bored. That’s probably why the Twins keep on creating. Otherwise they would be driven insane by the mere concept that is an eternity.
I’m going to go ahead and say that Alinua’s hitchhiker being the life primordial is confirmed. The life primordial’s arm has the same pattern on its arm that her hitchhiker does in it’s face. So unless there is another being that has that same pattern, I think we’ve got conclusive evidence.
I feel like VD might have missed something, or is lying. Because this doesn’t explain Alinua’s Lovecraftian friend, who is definitely the Life Primordial, or that dragon that Gold-And-Silver-Sparky-Sparky-Boom-Woman was fighting, or the Paladins he mentioned.
I’m inclined to believe that he is telling the *basic* truth and either is omitting or is unaware of the details.
Besides, reveal every important component of the plot in one (admittedly multi-page) monologue? Red could never! 🙂
“Normal”? Maybe normal for the U.S. If you want a kilometers-to-miles conversion formula: grab a calculator and divide the number of kilometers by 1.62.
So, because I like making myself suffer (and this actually made me genuinely curious), I tried to do the math. However I’m not very good at math, so if there’s someone who actually knows what their doing and thinks I’m wrong, I probably am. If you think you have the right answer feel free to correct me. So,um, here’s my attempt at math.
Let’s assume that the V.Ds prison is around the same size as the Earths’ core (3,485 km or 2,165 mi). Then let’s assume that the Adamant crystal that makes up the prison is 10-15 km thick. This makes the area of the prison 3,470-3,475 km squared (2,156-2159 mi squared. That makes circumference of the prison is 208.765-.916 km or 129.720-.814 mi. Lastly, let’s assume that there is about 5 km of free space for the V.D to move around. This makes the Void Dragon 203 km (or 129 mi) long. That’s the same as stacking the Eiffel Tower on top of its self 676 times.
There’s my attempt. I’m probably wrong. If you’re good at math and you’d like to correct me, feel free to do so. At least I can say I tried.
The “their” in the first paragraph thing was supposed to be they’re. Quarantine is killing my brain. It won’t be long until I lose my grasp of the English language all together.
Well… as I also like making myself suffer, I calculated it myself, but I did it a little differently (and got a very different answer, that’s probably also wrong). I first zoomed in a lot, so the planet was as big as it could be. Then I took a measuring tape and found that the planet was about 12 inches in diameter. By following Walter’s length, I measured he was about 4 inches long, so he’s 1/3 the length of the diameter of the planet. I assumed that the planet was Earth sized, so Walter’s about 4,200 km long (about 2,600 miles).
I leave it to the other commenters here to judge who’s estimate is closer.
is anyone else gonna mention that alinua is def like possesed/reincarnate/getting that sweet but a overwhelming life magic juice from the life primordial… anyone? cause that hand def matches with what we’ve seen so far and it would be one of the things that can intimidate the void dragon that makes sense
and even though he said they died uh unreliable narrator/why the hell would he tell erin about potential weaknesses
Perhaps Alinua’s big friend is, like, a fragment of Life’s essence that gained consciousness (sorry, but I was thinking about Brandon Sanderson worldbuilding and thought that this was kind of similar).
As a few people already mentioned, a creation of all the elements can only be undone by those same six elements. The Bionicle fanboy in me is jumping with joy at the fact that the Void Dragon is trapped inside what is essentially a Toa Seal.
Also, I’m calling it now: Kendal’s body is laced with adamant.
Yup. I came back to this page to see if anyone else had that thought, and was not entirely disappointed.
(I also saw other people figuring out that Kendal might be made from Adamant, which is an interesting theory that would either require Vash to have had all six elements at his disposal, or some way to reshape it without destroying it. And if he had access to all six elements – which as a city large enough to develop a god, he probably should’ve – why would he use those powers to carve a space rock rather than just constructing adamantine bones directly? Hm.)
Amazing first panel, clever evolution of Stone’s sword and shield into the moons and A-class lines from Void Dragon.
10/10 Exposition from Mr. Eldritch Evil
Good thought for Stone to be the only one with any meaningful strength and form at the end, handily explains why there’s so much more of that element making up the planet than the others.
TL;DR: the supergods turned into a superprison to imprison dark floof, who now has a key or something. That’s kind of bad design, but it was made pretty hastily so…
I JUST realized that when Alunia told Kendal he had metal weaved into him and the fact that he can’t be destroyed by the void dragon…. His body is totally made using Adamant.
AND not only did Vash-n-Smash make his incarnation (now known as Kendal) with Adamant, he also made his sentinels with the stuff. Remember UnVash’s first fight was with Vash-n-Smash’s strongest sentinel. At one point Sentinel Brute manages to grab and squeeze NonVash hard enough to crack his ribs, but in the process Sentenial Brute breaks its own hand. So far this is the only thing that has managed to break MisVash’s bones. In lieu of the 6 elements, it takes Adamant to break Adamant.
okay but… am I the only one who wants a printed version of the first panel without the monolouge so that I can hang it on my wall? because it looks really forking cool.
Revisiting this page after reading the extra lore about the calendar, I feel dumb for not realizing that the moons called “Sword” and “Shield” were, of course, the literal sword and shield Stone wielded into battle.
You see, power of friendship is more than the Void
Alas, he didn’t die from the attack employed
SPOILER ALERT: So adamant is a perfect fusion of the elements, and Void can’t consume it. Does that mean that starmetal and/or Kendal is made from adamant? And how is it related to the Lady?
Adamantine is a very old word for ‘very hard material’, descended from even older words for the same. Wiktionary goes as far back as the Ancient Greek ἀδάμας (adámās), meaning ‘invincible’, ‘the hardest metal’, or ‘diamond’.
Also, Adamant also meant ‘lodestone’ (magnetized magnetite) in Shakespearean English. Which is another cool thing I learned today!
RED! RED! RED! RED! RED! we NEED the first panel, WITHOUT the monologue, but WITH the quote, “I do not wither, I am the withering” INSTEAD, as a purchasable POSTER! it will be RAW AS HELL, and I would LOVE to buy it and put it in my room!
OHHHHH MY GOODNESS CAN SOMEONE CONFIRM THAT I’M RIGHT
I THINK I FOUND SOMETHING INTERESTING
THE VOICE TEXT USED FOR THE DRAGON THING POSSESSING ERIN IS THE SAME AS THE ONE USED AT THE VERY BEGINNING
I JUST realized that the reason Aurora’s moons are called Sword and Shield are because they are literally Stone’s sword and shield that he wielded against VD. You can see in the previous page that he has a big copper colored sword, a big silver shield, but he doesn’t have them in the first panel of this page when they’re forming the Adamant prison, and then in the second panel you can see what’s left of the discarded sword and shield, worn down over time by their gravity into a somewhat spherical shape that more closely resembles the moons we see above Aurora today!
Walter the Withering
So, are the moons formed because of this or are there just chunks of stone that got ripped apart?
The moons are called Sword and Shield. If you go back a page or two, to the page with a panel of Stone charging at the Void Dragon, he’s holding two weapons: a sword and a shield in the same color as the moons! The names aren’t just random, Stone’s weapons literally became the moons of this world!
Oh wow, I never realized that! nice observation
“and then they died”
cool coo- oh there’s more
“But i do not wither, I am the withering” dammmnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn
Yes, that is the most raw and metal quote in this comic
So the Void Dragon is The Snarl.
How many other worlds has VD destroyed?
I was about to feel bad for The Void Dragon, but then he ruined it. But, if he stops trying to murder people… maybe I’ll feel bad again.
He looks so sad in the middle right panel. I want to hug him.
Honestly, the Void Dragon is a hell of a lot less destructive than an actual black hole…
It would have consumed every star in existence one by one if the primordials weren’t there on the scene. Most black holes that we know of wouldn’t even get close to absorbing that much stuff.
that first panel is awesome X3
so Voidy wants erins power – if wonder if erin has enough to undo the adamant cocoon ^^
K thanks for telling us about your only weakness
In response to Heliogabalus, (for some reason I can’t reply directly) an eternity itself is horrifying. No matter how you entertain yourself you’ll become bored. That’s probably why the Twins keep on creating. Otherwise they would be driven insane by the mere concept that is an eternity.

I think it might just be a life magic patern, since the life primordial is dead as far as we know
It’s more or less definitely the life primordial, as the primordials’ souls still linger which is how mages can do magic in the first place.

I think his body might still be in the adamant prison (and he might need the power of the six elements to break through it)
Assuming this planet is almost as old or is old as Earth, the Void Dragon would’ve been imprisoned for literally billions of years.
One hell of a punishment…
One more thing: is that the actual size of the Void Dragon’s body, in comparison to the whole-ass planet?? He’s got to be hundreds of kilometers long!
Like how much is that in normal units
“Normal”? Maybe normal for the U.S. If you want a kilometers-to-miles conversion formula: grab a calculator and divide the number of kilometers by 1.62.

Bad voids get put in timeout for until they learn not to destroy things that don’t belong to them… Which is forever.
Perhaps, but what I thought when I saw this was literally Zelda sealing the calamity away.
Great, that was for the Unknown Game…
The “one hell of a punishment” comment, I’m guessing?
Heh, The stone primordial’s sword and sheild became the moons, that’s a fun detail.
is anyone else gonna mention that alinua is def like possesed/reincarnate/getting that sweet but a overwhelming life magic juice from the life primordial… anyone? cause that hand def matches with what we’ve seen so far and it would be one of the things that can intimidate the void dragon that makes sense

listen im just *clenches fist* i see all
“Gotta gotta be down because I want it all.”
“It started out with a kiss, how did it end up like this?”
Bold move to name the notoriously tough element “adamant”
Perhaps Alinua’s big friend is, like, a fragment of Life’s essence that gained consciousness (sorry, but I was thinking about Brandon Sanderson worldbuilding and thought that this was kind of similar).

(Bionicle MNOG theme intensifies)

Well ain’t that a kick in the head.
Sorry listening to Radio New Vegas not sorry.
As a fellow fan of Radio New Vegas, no worries
OK but R U sure that the primordial beings are dead?
I wonder if the meteorite that Vash made his sword from, and which is infused into Kendal’s bones, is adamant?
Actually, that would explain a great deal, like how his sword survived the things he put it through.
Poor Lil’ Big ol’ snek. All it wants is to destroy the entire universe! Is that so bad? Let other people have fun!
It’s currently 6:07 EDT on Wednesday May 13th, 2019… this is the day Red didn’t post the next page… I don’t think I can hold out much longer.
Anyone else notice Life’s arms resemblance to the one the floofy life mage had in the void dragons sight of her?
Wow, voidy is tiny compared to the elementals.
But really, it think, what some of us are wondering is… WHY WASN’T THIS (amadant) PLAN A?
Amazing first panel, clever evolution of Stone’s sword and shield into the moons and A-class lines from Void Dragon.

total vaatu vibes honestly

OHHHHH MY GOODNESS CAN SOMEONE CONFIRM THAT I’M RIGHT
I THINK I FOUND SOMETHING INTERESTING
THE VOICE TEXT USED FOR THE DRAGON THING POSSESSING ERIN IS THE SAME AS THE ONE USED AT THE VERY BEGINNING
Coincidence? I think NOT!
Lampshaded by Red in the description text the first time Voidy speaks while possessing Erin.
I JUST realized that the reason Aurora’s moons are called Sword and Shield are because they are literally Stone’s sword and shield that he wielded against VD.
