He can jump pretty damn far. But the distance between those pillars… I’m a bit worried for him. It’s pretty close to the farthest we’ve seen him jump so far
May I just say, love the weapon choice of these Ignians. Monks spades (I think that’s what these are called) are built to control space and to knock your opponent away, and if your on a bridge over lava, well you trigger what we call an environmental kill. Also, look at those masks, I would wear that.
Ok, so I just looked it up and I did get the name right. They were a non-sharp Chinese monk weapon. Thanks for pointing out the utility though, I don’t think I would have noticed that. 🙂
I got nostalgia whiplash of watching my brother play Prince of Persia: The Two Thrones seeing this column to column leap. Anyone else?
I love the little motion lines and breath puff that Falst makes in panel 5; subtle ways of showing him hyping himself up. (Though my brain can’t shake the image of my cat doing similar wiggles before she does a huge leap). The lack of SFX, bar the SHIFT in panel 3, is a good choice to set the pacing, and lets us soak in that sun corona-esque lava edge more.
Falst is playing a risky gambit with shifting position so drastically with so many eyes around; this sudden movement combined with them looking down to do their cleaning could attract attention. Then again, those goggles restrict peripheral vision, and Falst is a similar colour to the stuff they’re cleaning; even if they see him, they might mistake him for some dirt that fell off.
Plus we need to remember Dainix’s life is on the line, and Kendal’s distraction won’t last forever; Falst is on the clock, so risks must be taken.
Prediction for next week: I’m sure Falst will make the jump, but, as I talked about above, I doubt he’ll make it undetected. Hopefully such a sighting is fleeing and they “must have been the wind” dismiss it; because if they don’t, and they have similar training and thoroughness as Dainix, Falst is in trouble.
Just a heads up, I’m off on holiday for two weeks starting Monday. I’ll have my phone so I’ll be reading the new pages, but no laptop so I probably won’t comment, or at least not make long comments. So if anyone wonders where I got to, that’s why.
This is a save or suck scenario with two main characters at risk. He’ll be fine, but at this point he’s basically flying. There’s no way gravity would let him get away with this at a 0 degree launch angle. Of course that’s based on the estimated distance between pillars. They kinda look like 100 meters apart.
You said basically flying and I heard Bus from Toy Story “This isn’t flying. It’s falling…with style!”
Red’s cat thought almost had me do a spit take all over my keyboard.
The hover text made me laugh sooo much.
Oh, I hope he makes that jump, and we don’t get a “Dainix-stone falls in lava, revives, can’t save Falst” or “needs to save Falst again” kind of thing. My imagination is having a field day now.
And *even now*, when missing this jump means both of them fall straight into lava and die, he’s only got one hand out to catch himself and hand anxiously hanging on to the knot holding Dainix to his back.

hmm, somehow I’ve never realized just how far Falst can jump.

No way he can jump that far!
I’m imagining he’s going to cat scrabble at the pillar but he’ll gain purchase. He’s already proven he’s more like a gecko then a cat when climbing.
Those pillars are super tall. He’ll manage the jump but arrive close to the bottom and will have to climb back to the top before doing another jump.
Okay, while I know he’s going to be fine and we know how far he can jump, this kind of jump with no running start is kinda pushing it.
Of course, we’re gonna have a laugh about it afterward at Falst’s expense. Pretty sure he’s gonna gain some gray hairs after this.
I agree, that angle and scenario is not one where I can imagine being confident about that jump.
I was wondering for a bit if his claws could dig into the glass well enough to let him do an upside-down crawl under the bridge
Remember Red’s storyboard of Falst with the WHEEZE sound effect across the background? I think we’ll encounter that soon. Just a hunch.

Ah. Yes, I see the resemblance to the current situation xD
*Quicksaving…*

Likely less weapons and more tools, they’re using them to shove the debris the volcano creates off the bridges.
I tend to find that most monk weapons are primarily tools of some kind that can conveniently be weaponized when needed.

his tail is gon get burnt off at this rate
Over the lava, far away
He sees a point whence jump he may

Ooh, have fun! And looking forward to when you get back!
Oh my god FALST!!!
Whelp, I sure hope this ends better than literally every cat video on the internet :/
I am going gray(er) just watching Falst leap. Eep!
Falst nooo, I’ve seen cats misjudge the jump too many times

Typo, BUZ not Bus. (face palm) I’m to tired for this day.

Oh wow, can’t believe we’re gonna see Falst Literally Die next page.

dang it
the physicist in me is looking at that trajectory and going “wow, he jumped FAST.”
Kind of a wonder the pillar didn’t crack, wouldn’t you say?
Uhm. He has plot armor, right? Right??
I can just FEEL the Mission Impossible music playing in Falst’s head omg
