spoiler alert, next chapter is just Tarren taking a really relaxing bath and sleeping for sixteen hours straight
Poor Tarren looks so tired in the fourth panel. He really deserves that bath.
Real quick tarren uses They/them pronouns
*they
For mobile readers.
Alt-text: you know what they say about plans: they are super good at surviving contact with the enemy
The enemy is Erin’s hubris. It’s already here, he brought it on board.
The call is coming from inside the house!
Tumblr text: sailing for adventure on the big blue wet thing
Twitter Text: maximum warp
On the stern of the ship with Tarren, Erin says, “Sails in position.”
“Right,” Tarren responds.
“Supplies are stowed.”
“Looks like it.”
“Lacrimas charged.”
“And with you around, they’ll stay that way.” Tarren stretches and starts heading down the steps towards the gangplank. “Now if you’ve got this handled, there’s a hot bath calling my name.”
“Tarren – wait,” Erin calls from behind the wheel. “Thank you. Really. I can’t tell you how much this means to me.”
“Then don’t tell me,” Tarren says, looking back. “Just take plenty of notes!” He pauses, his eyes lined in worry. “And come back safe.”
“That’s the plan,” Erin says with a small grin. “And you know how I am with plans.
“Everyone ready?” Erin shouts as Tarren walks down to the dock.
“Yup,” Falst says.
“Yes,” Kendal calls.
“FULL SPEED AHEAD!” Tess shouts from atop the mast.
“Falst!” Erin says. “Please activate the water lacrima!”
“Since you asked so nicely,” Falst says, slapping his hand against the blue lacrima imbedded in the metal ring in the mast. It starts to glow.
This has such Star Trek vibes.
“Mr Falst, take us out of the port. Full impulse. Engage!”
omg yeah!!
With the “Full Speed Ahead” I was thinking more Epic the Musical, but that’s probably the brainrot talking
It seems to me that “Full Speed Ahead” came from the crow’s nest where the speed demon Tess is…
Seriously the brain rot is real for me
Same lol. Epic the music is indeed both epic and a musical (for those who don’t know, it’s a musical based on the odyssey and the soundtrack slaps harder than [insert appropriate allegory here])
EPIC slaps harder than Polyphemus making pancakes.
Yes, I had to.
But the EPIC brainrot is REAL, it was my immediate thought on seeing Tess’s dialogue
We’re up, we’re off, and away we go!
“LUDICROUS SPEED!”
Tarren looks so worried <3 Here's to hoping we get to see them again in the story! …and for GOOD reasons.
At Erin's comment about plans, does anyone else get Red's voice in their head saying "if we the audience learn about the plan beforehand, it will go wrong"? Buuut I'm sure he's got backup plans and "but what I didn't tell you was-!" enough to go around.
Also, obligatory "…I love Tess" comment.
All set, Tarren bids them a worried farewell
“FULL SPEED AHEAD!” calls Tess, Falst starts the spell
The sail’s in position, supplies are stowed;
The lacrimas are charged.
Erin thanks Tarren as they head off,
His confidence enlarged.
“FULL SPEED AHEAD!” his sister yells,
Perched atop the mast.
Falst touches the lacrima on the band upon it,
Activating it’s power vast.
The lacrima system is extremely interesting
I’m betting we see an action scene where the layout of the ship, it’s lacrimas, and it’s connected conductive metals (seen yesterday) becomes very important, given how it’s being set up in detail.
Lol, Tess’ “FULL SPEED AHEAD”
I remember why she’s my favorite character
The ship intermediately explodes next page. The END!
Little did they know about the underwater caves that VD can use to fast-travel to the center of the earth via water magic.
Yippy, thought the page was broken, for some reason I can only access this page by pressing the random button and then the far right arrow, but whatever works!! This is my first time actually staying up to catch the new page as it drops!!!
Yeah, this early on getting to the new page can be a bit weird. It usually goes back to normal an hour or so later. For me it usually works to press the Aurora logo in the top left corner, that gets you to the starting page which has the newest page on it.
I LOVE FALATTTTTTT SO FUCKING MUCHHHHHHH
This comic is such a nice thing to look forward to! There’s not a single character in it that I’m not happy to see more of.
You know, the biggest plot twist would be that Erin actually has planned for all eventualities and they arrive at the island without a sweat
But how else are we going to find out how long Kendal can stay under water? He has to fight a sea monster, there is simply no other way.
Erin planned for the eventuality of encountering a sea monster, and exactly how to deal with it, and get valuable experimental data on Kendal’s breathing in the process.
There are ofcourse, multiple plans for different kinds of sea monster.
Kendal is going to get a Jason and the argonaughts moment or tow here. maybe even Beowulf if we are lucky.
Alrighty, rune time! Wasn’t as quick on the draw this time, so only relaying the transcriptions here.
The inner ring says “PUSH DOWN FLOW AWAY” (minor note, the “push” uses separate “s” and “h” runes instead of the joint “sh”);
The outer ring says “CALM QUIET STILL”.
Thank you for your invaluable knowledge and generosity in sharing, again! (give @Mat a thumbs up sign)
I love this page! However … is anyone else thinking that panel 6 looks like what comes before the ‘My hubrisssss!’ result?
It’s Erin.
I’m kinda sad the gang’s leaving Tarren. I legitimately loved them SO much. I hope we see them again one day.
Helloooo
You plan like Harry Potter
“We plan, we get there, all hell breaks loose”
I see nobody else yet, but that’s probably just my page. Look at our cat boy go! Anybody got a translation on the water lacrima runes?
Push down flow away // calm quiet still (said Mat above; I can’t read aurora runes)
(Apologies if you’d already seen that)
Ok but the magic effects on this page are delicious!
I mean, EVERYONE on that ship should take a really relaxing bath and sleep for sixteen hours straight.
NOW FULL SPEED AHEAD
WE’RE UP WE’RE OFF AND AWAY WE GO
Hey fellow Epic the Musical fan!
Yes! I also thought of EPIC when I read that line.
Same thought!
Current head canon voices:
Kendal – Matthew Mercer/Michael B Jordan
Alinua – Aimee Carrero
Falst – Jason Marsden
Erin – Blue
Tess – Linda Cardellini
Dainix – Red
Blue would work for Erin! I pictured Toby Maguier.
I personally have Red locked in as Tess.
Huh, a moment of sincerity I wasn’t expecting from Tarren…
I thought they’d say “I know it’s too much to ask for you to bring the ship back undamaged, so just take lots of notes and it’ll be fine.”
ERIN USED PLEASE
ITS VERY EFFECTIVE!!
…Wait, I thought Tarren was coming with. They really aren’t taking *anyone* with sailing skills with them on this trip?
I suddenly agree with Dainix. This is very dangerous.
Yeah, it was kinda implied a few chapters back when Tarren said “I know i’m not gonna get this back so take good notes for me” but still, it’s quite unfortunate that Erin is the only one with water magic do they’re at a combat disadvantage
Erin and Tess have probably sailed before
I may have said this on an earlier page, but I am very excited to see how the group adapts to life at sea. I predict that either something in Erin’s plans will go wrong on the way there and he will have to learn some lessons about hubris OR absolutely nothing goes wrong with his plans until they get to Helm (and then things will go VERY wrong).
Aww, Tarren’s face in panel 5. I’ve enjoyed watching them support and rag on Erin in turns; I really hope we get to see them again.
Nice to see some of the work they did! I’d been wondering why the lacrimas would need more charging if the ship were actually going SLOWER…looks like they essentially carved the spell that Erin cast earlier to calm the surroundings. I wonder what the other six are?
absolutely sure that nothing bad can happen whatsoever after a statement like that
I like how falst is the one using the lacrima cus he knows them! clever!!
awwww you jinxed it
I like how Tarren has picked up on how much trouble Erin is in, just based on his lack of cocky braggadocio after having ended The Storm. Erin hasn’t fooled Tarren at all.
PULL THE LEVER, FALST
WRONG- oh wait actually that’s the right lever.
As a former professional mariner, it’s terrifying to see these folks head out into wild Winter weather where the professionals fear to tread, without anyone having genuine nautical experience. It’d have been interesting to see what kind of people would have been willing to crew such a ship on such a voyage, but that wasn’t going to happen. Red would have had to fully character design a whole bunch of crew, or at least one larger-than-life Captain Ron type.
Also, apropos of my theory that the sea voyage isn’t actually going to be a large part of Arc 2, I’ve decided to put my money on the sea voyage turning out to be one giant combination Gilligan Cut and Noodle Incident! Yep, no actual sea voyage at all, they end up making landfall crammed into a tiny coastal fishing boat, Tarren’s masterpiece is nowhere to be seen, and for some reason nobody will talk to Alinua.
OMG that would be hilarious, but the sea voyage is just too good an opportunity for shenaniganery for Red to pass up. Of course I don’t mean to presume what Red thinks, but it seems highly unlikely that she would actually miss out on sea monsters and that volcano(?) god Tess learned about back when she was fixing the lighthouse.

I can’t see if this posted the first time I clicked the button, so I’m posting it again, apologies if it’s a duplicate.
Zoom in on Erin in the 8th panel. Bro’s made of like 4 pixels, and also doesn’t have eyes.
He does, however, have eyes in the second panel.
TL;DR: Mr. Hubris’s pal isn’t joining the party
.. saves them from all the chaos that’s to come as the journey continues!
This is the second page in a row where we’ve gotten emotional close ups of speaking characters’ faces… what’s going on?
They’re up, they’re off, and away they go
