Forgiven! But you should have added a comment because our host(s) graciously lets us comment for feelback. (smile)
Speaking of which- I like these slow character bits after all the epic battle at end of last arc. More please! I also like panel six image of calm peace before vigorous activity and strife, beautifully drawn and foreshadowing!
It’s a risk move, that one. Unless the site has suddenly gotten faster, you don’t necessarily see the other comments that early, so the section might look empty when it isn’t. Be careful with that one, friend.
Also the comment function just got a lot nicer, thanks Red!
Erin the Hubris-man has more reason than usual to be cocky about the weather because he has entered, beaten and turned off THE STORM that raged for millennia. This little thing? Its nothing really. I love the family dynamic here.
Ehhh, if a storm god starts giving you trouble, just bring up the fact that they killed Tynan. They’ll either be scared enough to leave you alone or overjoyed that someone finally ended that fear-eating upstart.
It is an established fact (see the Vash’s Sword page under the Extra Lore tab) that after he fought Tynan the first time, storm gods feared Vash and went out of their way to avoid causing inclement weather in his territory. It’s conceivable that Kendal, who now wields the same starfire that Vash used against Tynan, could make use of that intimidation factor. Of course, Kendal just telling a storm to buzz off and the storm buzzing off would not make for a very exciting story arc, so we probably won’t see that play out without some complication.
I wonder what other weather gods think of Tynan. “What a badass, he really made those mortals pay attention”? “Ugh, he’s making us all look bad”? “I don’t care what he does to the mortals but he’s a big jerk who hogs all the good warm fronts”?
Good question! I don’t know about everyone, but Tess will punch it with lightning, dainix will try to burn it away and alinua will grow a big tree and…. Trap it or something…?
Getting the forecast back up just to complain about the weather. Yeah, that sounds about right.
There’s that Rakhn mentioned again, from their name used to describe the storm of magic, Dainix’s use of it as a swear, and Elf lady’s talk of volcanic weather, I’m betting their some kind of chaotic volcano god, and they’re active. If Tess wants to stop Erin from going, dropping that info to Dainix would help; his knowledge of ocean dangers could be spotty, but I bet he understands the danger Rakhn poses just fine and could add his vote to the ‘wait’ camp.
Tess is right, to get Erin to stay she needs to convince his V.D. counters to do the same. Dainix could be convinced as I mentioned above, god Vs. god fights might also make Kendal second guess going immediately, and, while I don’t see a direct way to convince Alinua, she tends to follow Kendal, so if he says no, she’ll likely say no too. Falst may not have the same weight as a V.D. counter, but his practical thinking and knack for countering Erin’s arguments would be helpful.
There is however a big danger to waiting, in the form of Shrike’s Boys and Stefan’s Paladins. The longer they stay in one location, especially a city this big which may not give diplomatic immunity to Erin and his companions, the more likely they’ll be discovered. When Terren’s ship launches, it may be more of a mad dash to escape than ceremonious champagne bottle smashing.
Prediction for next week: Cut to at least one member of the gang elsewhere in Argist.
Also, just to let people know, I’ll be off on holiday next week to a no internet place so I am unlikely to comment here until next Wednesday. Will probably still find time and places to read the comic, but I’ll probably be absent for a bit. Just in case anyone wonders where I’ve gone.
True. Plus as @Squirrel said, Kendal may be in the go camp due to the Collector not stopping her touring of Vash. Could make some interesting friction in the gang.
I’d go so far as to say that Alinua has some of the strongest survival instincts in the group. She won’t support am unnecessarily dangerous journey across an ocean where she specifically will have very little power to help.
I’m not sure “wait” is the alternative to “go.” Based on the harbormaster’s description of the situation, I’ve been seeing it more as a choice between “insanely-risky voyage to Hollowsong” and “sensible but logistically suboptimal voyage to Grimside.” The Grimside passage will get them to Helm, but with a long overland journey still ahead of them. Plenty of time for Shrike and Theia to catch up.
Erin has a point in wanting to get going: he seems to genuinely see Voidy as a ticking time bomb that he will eventually lose control of, if he can’t get it out of him.
There once was a cocky young mage
Who didn’t have the wisdom of a sage.
Tess knows that the nerd
Won’t listen to a word
If she tells him to heed the storm-gauge.
Honestly, with how much everyone is telling us SAILING THE NORTHERN ROUTE IS IMPOSSIBLE, there is literally no way that we are not sailing the northern route and there is literally no way it will go smoothly.
Hmm. I wonder if Dainix will be on the “let’s try” boat due to his motivation to read “A Treatise on Soulfire” so he can master that fire and return home, especially after being cooped up in a prison for sefs… Then again, maybe not. He strikes me as a sensible sort. Erin and Kendal may feel like there’s a tighter deadline, though. A season’s a long time to wait when one is possessed by a malicious entity and another has a god under threat of dissection with an uncertain timeline.
I’d bet a dozen doodles that they’re gonna end up charging into those storms for one reason or another, even if the party hesitates or tries to find another way initially. There’s just too much foreshadowing here. Also: volcano heist? Volcano heist maybe?
Sidenote: Tess is so shiny. I keep getting distracted by all the beautiful lighting.
Somehow this is the first time I’ve noticed that Tess does have irises in her eyes, they’re just slightly whiter than the rest of her eyes. I guess I was registering them as highlights before?
been a *long* time since i commented here, but i really wanted to say how much i love tess’s lichtenburg scars!! (lichtenburg scars are a specific type of scar pattern that can occur when someone is struck by lightning ;p)
I’ve been watching the OSP YT videos for a long time, but someone suggested this to me and I caught up so fast. Red’s personality shines through her work and it’s just so well put together. Thank you for your hard work 😭
This talk of volcanic weather has me interested, as far as I’m aware volcanic weather is a phenomenon in real life but it only occurs during a volcanic eruption. it makes me wonder if there are volcanoes in the north and just what we’ll see there.
I don’t really know much more than the fact that it exists sorry. The most I know is a specific form of lightning that occurs because the molten rock and ash clouds mess up the electron charges between the earth and the sky causing the lightning to go in random directions.
A moment of appreciation for Tess’s character design
> Eyes have pupils, but look like light reflecting off of metal
> Gold skin, still invokes the feeling of electricity while looking like metal
> Freaking lichtenberg marks
first
sorry, i had to
I’m really not sure you did

Erin, having beaten 2 significant storms and full of way too much hubris to be trusted near a 3rd
Ice melts and god fights
Make the northern route unsafe
Please reconsider
“he’d think i was sick” was so funny and i don’t fully know why
Ehhh, if a storm god starts giving you trouble, just bring up the fact that they killed Tynan. They’ll either be scared enough to leave you alone or overjoyed that someone finally ended that fear-eating upstart.
Nothing could ever go wrong with this plan. Nope.
It is an established fact (see the Vash’s Sword page under the Extra Lore tab) that after he fought Tynan the first time, storm gods feared Vash and went out of their way to avoid causing inclement weather in his territory. no one actually managed to kill him so this would mostly be bad as a lie. Saying that they were the ones who defeated tynann, that’d work fine.
I’m first? Alt text: Tess would never discourage someone from fucking around and finding out. Sorry Zer0 Wolf!
It will absolutely not be fine.
Am I sensing a scene transition to said others?
Cue the perspective change to what the others are doing.
Perhaps cue perspective change to the others trying to get Erin to reconsider. And to Tarren now being fully on board with Erin’s plan!
I 100% believe that they will run into a big storm and have a grand sea battle. And I cannot WAIT 😁
She knows him so well.
Anonymous Aurora Question #42: How would each of the Gang fight a storm if they were alone?
Good question! I don’t know about everyone, but Tess will punch it with lightning, dainix will try to burn it away and alinua will grow a big tree and…. Trap it or something…?
I think Falst could probably find an umbrella. and look annoyed at the storm
Kendal, Erin, and Dainix would actually be able to fight a storm, burning it away.
Tess would pull her signature LIGHTNING PUUUNCH, although that wasn’t very effective against Tynan.
Alinua would ‘fight’ by dealing with the actual effects of the storm, providing shelter and directing refugees.
Falst would probably just hole up somewhere safe and wait for it to go away.
Falst would pull a Zuko and be like, “FIGHT ME I DARE YOU!”
from now on I will hear Zuko’s voice coming from Falst. thank you.
Hahaha yessssss 😂
The stormwatch map and it’s array
Reveal many concerns.
The Northern Passage grows thicker with storms,
As to Icemelt the season turns.
Volcanic weather and arguing gods
Might also threaten the sailing.
Tess, however, doubts her brother
Would heed from her a warning.
Is it just me or is it that the elf has Katara’s hairstyle?
I mean, look at the hair loopies!
now that you mention it I can see it
Getting the forecast back up just to complain about the weather. Yeah, that sounds about right.

One amendment. Alinua tends to follow Kendal’s best interests. She’s lookign out for him and that would absolutely put her in the wait camp.
True. Plus as @Squirrel said, Kendal may be in the go camp due to the Collector not stopping her touring of Vash. Could make some interesting friction in the gang.

TL;DR: Mr. Hubris may be cooking a VERY BAD IDEA.

70 percent of aurora has been floof gang vs various weather patterns and it is the best thing ever like hel yeah brother new day new cloud to punche

This comic has quickly become my comfort media for when I’m sick. Thanks for helping me feel a bit better, Red!
I’m betting Tarren’s not getting that ship back… Only question is whether it gets destroyed or just sunk
god I love Tess so much
It’s all working fine, but the weather is not
And Tess doesn’t want to put “someone” on the spot
Oh she IS the best.
Also, when your weather forecast has to include gods, and take gods into account? *chef’s kiss* at that worldbuilding.
I’ve been watching the OSP YT videos for a long time, but someone suggested this to me and I caught up so fast. Red’s personality shines through her work and it’s just so well put together. Thank you for your hard work 😭

Ooo! What is volcanic weather? I know it can ground aircraft.
I don’t really know much more than the fact that it exists sorry. The most I know is a specific form of lightning that occurs because the molten rock and ash clouds mess up the electron charges between the earth and the sky causing the lightning to go in random directions.
Is it just me, or does Tess have pupils (irises?) now?
It would be a nice subversion of expectations if they took the patient, safer route. Of course, something could still go disasterously wrong.
I admit, I’m really enjoying these background sea scapes. Boats… hills through the haze….
Will they sail the northern route? *shakes Magic 8 Ball* “Odds are yes.”
Good. In the meantime, I’m going to kick back and enjoy the scenery.

The cocky about the weather line is great. He did beat up an entire storm personified.
How long is a sef? Is it like a week?
