The idea that an all-powerful eldritch abomination watching the world through your eyes might see you doomscrolling on twitter and make good on your impulse to burn the world down would intimidate anyone I think
holy damn im a lot earlier than i usually am
For mobile readers.

Twitter Text: Yea we’ve all been there
Yeah, let’s hope that’s not foreshadowing and Life will indeed not do anything stupid
Not directly foreshadowing. She just doesn’t know that the collectoe is the vessel that hates what life has become. Without that context she’s glossing over that line of her conversation with life. I think life is trying to get perspective to determine if its worth stopping the collector. I think she’d like to be free, but not at the cost of destroying something worth keeping
holy shit its 3am way over there??
4am. Daylight savings always means these don’t appear until four on the east coast of the US.
8 AM here in the UK, though that’s due to change when the clocks go forward on the 31st, then it’ll be 9 AM.
Oh dang, that’s going to be a pain for me. I look at these just after 8am on my second device before school because this site is banned on the school I-pads, and I won’t be able to see it until the end of the day when it’s 9am 🙁
I found it really annoying sneaking a look at this during first period. Now I’m a Uni student, I just have difficulty waking up that early…
yeah, 8am. its a truly horrible time for me personally, but 3 or 4am cant possibly be any better so, yeah. i have to look at these after school anyways, since i leave before 8 most days, so ig the clocks moving forward wont change that
It comes out at 12:00am for me, so it’s always a hard decision whether I want to stay up and wait for it or just sleep. When rehearsal keeps me up till 11, I’m always tempted to stay up the extra hour and wait for the page to drop.
For me it’s 10 am. Very convenient!
Samesies, tho that’s about to change in a week.
It wasn’t Vash’s soul, a shadow maybe?
While Life needs perspective, but what will she see?
I think the only character in the party who isn’t a warlock is Tess, and I’m not even sure about that.
Falst is only dipping, at least. He might even have multiclassed by accident.
Really? I would think that Dainix is a barbarian, since the Demon/Crucible form is like his rage.
I would actually say that Falst would be the barbarian, he definitely used a rage or two during the underground sequence.
Then he’s multiclassed, because that light dragon thing was clearly some sort of Eldritch Blast
I always thought of Falst as a classic rogue
I was absolutely clueless about DnD and any other TTRPGs when I started reading Aurora. A whole new world of content is truly opening as I slowly begin to get the jokes.
I’ll take your rogue and raise you one: Falst is a Soulknife rogue. It’s a regular rogue but with the addition of psychic knives! (shoot now you’ve got me thinking lol…)
Warlock implies a pact to get the magic; Erin was the only one who came close to that. I see most mages as sorcerers, given the “open/closed to the elements” requirement. Wild Magic is a good option for a lot of the cast, but there’s other possibilities.
…Look what you did; you made me go down a rabbit hole! /lh. Bearing in mind I don’t play a ton of spellcasters:
Tess: Storm Sorcerer.
Erin: Clockwork Soul Sorcerer (or possibly heavily-controlled Wild Magic, or even a straight Wizard depending on what happened in Helm??), multiclass into Warlock (pact of the Fiend?) with the Dark Dragon.
Kendal: Paladin, probably. He’s got the sense of justice, the combat ability, the godly patronage, and occasional Divine Smite.
Alinua: Probably Warlock (pact of Great Old One or Celestial?), altho you could probably make a druid multiclass work.
Falst: Soulknife Rogue (for above reason), possibly has a couple levels in Barbarian for the rage and shrugging off damage.
Dainix: Wild Magic Sorcerer and Artificer multiclass.
Nah, alinua, and dainix are divine soul sorcs, erin is a warlock mage multi class, falst is a barb, who’s looking at the zealot subclass, Tess could be a divine soul sorc, but also fits as arcane trickster, and kendal is just a fighter looking at the eldritch or rune knights subclasses
I have to say, the design of these panels really caught my eye: how they’re separate panels, yet the same scene, the chain link across Kendal and Alinua’s conversation, the full landscape divided into three panels of conversation. You really get a sense of the peace of the surroundings that allows them to talk about this. I also love that Kendal and Alinua have “well, the immortal deity I’m soul-bonded with…” in common. Most wouldn’t have much to say other than “…gllk.”
The design is harmonious and gives us a broad look at the surroundings, echoing the peaceful, harmonious accord between the two of them and the fact that they’re looking at the big picture of their experiences, both in Kendal’s dream and with Life.
It is also a way to show time passing. It shows this is a slow conversation, where we see more of what is going on as Kendal and Allinua speak of things they have a hard time putting words to. Well done Red!
It felt like a shadow of Vash’s soul,
Who might not know it’s there.
Kendal and Alinua sit on the cliff,
Their stories of doubt to share.
Alinua did not get the answers
She sought from speaking to Life.
She worries that seeing through her the goddess
Will reject this world of strife.
*Pushes glasses up nose* lovely use of polyptych in the first two rows.
Good work on the poetry. Alinua’s fear is valid, but getting rid of life on earth would mean getting rid of both life’s vessels, as well. I don’t see how Life the Eldritch could want that.
Hey, thanks. I’m glad you like it.
see if an all-powerful eldritch abomination was viewing the world through MY eyes she’d just be like “please go outside”
for me, any eldritch abomination would just leave my body.
or try to have me stop reading/writing gore
Kendal was met in a void both unique and strange
And from Vash’s soul there was likely a subtle change
Life’s vessel is scared as to what her lord life will see
And if it’s negative what her response will be
This strongly gives the vibes of two little kids talking about things about their parents they don’t understand
I love all the details you put into these drawings
Do I detect a “human has to explain to deity why humanity deserves to live” plot incoming? (even tho Ali isn’t a human but whatever)
The paneling on the second row is bothering me to an unreasonable degree.
I viewed her more as a Favoured Soul myself.
There once was a dead city’s god
Whose shadow has Kendal now trod.
It was filled with the dead
Who for Kendal pled
And now he’s left feeling awed/odd.
There once was Primordial Life
Whose regard was akin to a knife.
Would she see, through her girl,
That the world is a pearl,
Or would she see only evil that’s rife?
It’s only DoomScrolling if it’s from Latveria, domain of Dr Victor Von Doom. Anything else is just Sparkling Dread.
Ohhh, I am really dense. I never really understood the line from 1.20.23: “I needed eyes that did not hate what I had become”. For some reason, I though she meant Alinua wasn’t angry with Life, for the Chimeric Plague and all. But I had it backwards. Life had no idea what it would mean to “die” and become a world, and now she’s trapped and she hates it. But she knows she’s biased, and wants to see if it’s worth it, based on what she sees and experiences through Alinua.
Cool cool cool cool. No pressure.
It does make me wonder — It seems Vash can only let Kendal look through his eyes, and only in dreams, but for Alinua and Erin…how much can their eldritch passengers see, when their hosts are in control?
Not dense! I interpreted differently too. I see a few potential levels of hatred here:
– The Collector’s hatred: the Collector’s assumption that Life should be returned to her older form, that her current state is wrong and inferior.
– Life feeling fractured and confused and knowing distantly that she doesn’t understand herself and has been corrupting her splinters because she can’t see the details up close. Less hating being trapped and more having terrible self-esteem. (Possibly also because of the Collector.)
– The hatred you described: hating being trapped and potentially wanting to revert.
I thought it was the first one! And maybe a bit of the second. I still think Life is actively trying to appreciate her current state, as opposed to passively waiting for evidence that it was worth it. But I could be wrong. Your interpretation may well be correct. Hm.
No pressure, indeed…
Hazarding a guess that the eldritches can see quite a bit as they ride along. They seemed aware of the situations they surfaced into, at least from what I remember. But I’m not sure. Interesting food for thought.
I think it might even be slightly more complicated, given that the Collector took one look at Life and decided total extinction to restore Life was the only possible response. Life needs someone who, rather than being horrified, can appreciate how they’ve adapted as well as the beauty of the world made possible through her
Oh oh! She’s missing context! The collector is also a vessel, but she’s the one that hates what Life’s become.
True! There’s a couple of possible interpretations here, as Squirrel and Hermit Thrust described. And possibly a fourth thing that nobody has considered that Red’s holding in the wings 😛
Both the Collector and Alinua can provide a mortal perspective that Life simply cannot have. I don’t think it’s as simple as Life not liking what she sees…I don’t know if it’s possible for her to “like” or “dislike” it, at least not on the mortal scale we consider. But she definitely wants to understand, and she can’t do that on her own without drastic, harmful consequences. Both Alinua and the Collector are interpreting Life’s motives and desires from a mortal point of view, because of course they have to, but this could lead to them both being way off base.
…or like I said, A possible Red fourth thing!
Piggybacking Eldrich deity fundamental to how your planet works is scary. Piggybacking Eldrich deity fundamental to how your planet as they ponder if thats planets is worth a damn is straight up horrifing.
Anonymous Aurora Question #51: What’s each characters biggest fear?
I binge read this story in two days and now I am up to here. I am really excited for this journey! Red is actually a surprisingly good story teller!
If Life uses she/they, why are they being she/her’ed?
