I’m a little surprised Falst didn’t understand how it benefits Argist “tactically” to ally with Kendal here. Then again, Falst still has had zero positive experiences in cities. It’ll be interesting to see him learn he can relax in Argist. I bet that’s what that layout Red showed us on Tumblr is about… they’re trying to explain to him that he doesn’t *need* to hide and sneak, etc.
Falst, right now probably: I’m currently running on two hours of sleep, not great thoughts, and an Oreo, and I don’t know if I’m ready to fight a god,
O R B E C O M E O N E!!!
. Kendal stares at where Argist dissapeared for a moment, then closes his eyes with a sigh.
. He looks over as the door whips open, Falst staring from behind it. He smiles as Falst suspiciously glances around, looking for Argist. “So nobody’s getting arrested?” Falst asks, looking back at Kendal as the demigod stands, walking toward the door.
. “Not this time. Argist has nothing to prove.”
. Falst eyes him as Kendal passes into the other room. “But he’s not about to help us either.”
. “He’s trying to protect us.” Kendal holds up his sword in his scabbard, watching the gentle pulsing of the blue gem in the crossguard. “A city god couldn’t show a greater kindness.”
Ah so I was kind of right, he is doing what a city god should, trying to protect mortals from dangerous threats. From his perspective Kendal is part of Vash, and Argist as one of Vash’s allies doesn’t want to see him harmed. Which isn’t really wrong… I mean we’ve seen that mortal souls are literally bound to the city god they belong to, and even though Kendal isn’t really a mortal he is intrinsically bound to Vash.
I feel like Argist does view Kendal as a person not a “tool” and was attempting to tell Kendal that the gods don’t want people throwing their lives away when they (the gods) can just keep incarnating and possessing things like the Sentinals (from the beginning of the story) to use as tools instead. Mortals, and Kendal, are not expendable, but a god’s physical form is. He just didn’t really say it in a great way considering what we know (and he doesn’t) about Kendal’s personality and mindset.
Yes! And the fact that he’s trying to protect Kendal and his friends is particularly important as a city god, since city gods only really have an obligation to protect their own people (Vash has no obligation or right to protect the people of Zuurith). So the fact that Argist is trying to protect them implies that he sees them as part of his people, the closest mortal equivalent being the concept of found family or adoption.
Flat whips open the door, alert,
As Kendal sighs out his stress.
The vessel explains the situation, saying, “A city-god
Couldn’t show a greater kindness.”
Love the way he looks as the sword in the last panel.
Kendal’s floof mane is magnificent in that last panel. I also love the way Falst whips open that door, plus all the little details in those expressions. Kendal’s surprise, then fondness, then gentleness. Falst’s obvious tension, suspicion and concern.
also Kendal is already thinking of undermining Argist’s attempt to protect him isn’t he. He’s already resolved to get involved anyway. Why do I get this feeling
I don’t know if anyone has thought of this before, but theory. What if the paladin’s light god is the sun primordial or equivalent. We know the sun was there before the primordials arrived, and therefore is not made of any of their elements. We know it might maybe have a god, who is notably unusual. We know the planet orbits it, which suggests it might be large. We know voidy wanted to eat it, which also suggests it is large. It explains what they are, why they hate the void dragon, and why they are here. It also explains why the primordials cared so much about stopping voidy.
I was just flipping backward and reading new comments, and my brain exploded. Of COURSE that’s what the Light Dragon is. This could Watsonically explain everything!
Panel 3 and 4 are beautiful. Kendal doesn’t move between them at ALL, just smiles, while Falst looks like he’s walking into a crime scene or something and is looking suspicious at EVERYTHING.
I love it
…just so you know Red, I’m taking that matching-blue-semi-eye-contact moment with the sword as further evidence that Kendal actually is the sword-spirit turned manifested-humanoid by way of sheer ‘oi, that’s MY bipedal-shaped-friend, give him back!’ energy.
I figured Dainix used them all up in the lab/caves fighting the Crawlers (and Glort), so he needs to restock. But Erin definitely might have requested a few if he learned what they are, having a quick easy source of a flash of light could be useful if he can’t touch his tattoos for some reason.
ahhhhh the way that kendal looks into the gem makes me wanna hug him and sprite him away from all his troubles hgfmkbrl
also just the way that its the exact same color as his eyes fkemdlkfbn
Thinking about Argist and Falst, I wonder if there are any aquatic or semi-aquatic ferin. Turtle ferin who don’t have a shell, but do have flexible scutes on their back, eel ferin with long flat tails…
falst seems slightly disappointed he doesn’t get to fight a god again lmao
he does lmao

Ah yes, the good old “tactics”, Falst’s favorite. Let’s see if he can be persuaded to some rest and self care, you know, for tactical purposes.

Currently rereading all of Arc 2 so far and this made me lol
For mobile readers.
Alt-text: it’s a little condescending but to be fair he doesn’t know you’re the protagonists

Looks like BlueSky & Twitter are getting the same text, which makes sense

I love the way Falst opens the door lol
Yea, panels 3 and 4 are just amazing, with the urgency and the way Falst looks around, and Kendal is just sitting on the couch and smiles at him.
Yeah it was really funny but I only relised how funny it was a few minutes later…..

Falst giving peak cat
“so nobody’s getting arrested?”
yes, good sir, even Tess has managed to legally punch things with lightning. One could even say the floof squad will have clear sailing,
oh, wait.

Ooooooh! (rub hands together and eyes gleam with shiny, shiny anticipation)
Flat whips open the door, alert,
As Kendal sighs out his stress.

Love the way he looks as the sword in the last panel.
There is no arrest, no paranoia mindless
“He’s trying to protect us, the greatest kindness”
Kendal on panel 4 seems strangely precious.
why am I only now noticing Kendal sits like me even when he has a chair?
Kendal is beautiful <3
The amount of bishonens in this comic and the eye-candy that causes pleases me *greatly*.
I think he looks rather princely in that collared shirt 🙂 Maybe he’ll keep this one
I wouldn’t get too attached if I were you.
Falst can have a little paranoia, as a treat.

they way Kendal holds the sword, like it’s the most precious thing in the world,, ahhhaahgh i’m crying
“You just let me know if there’s a problem and I will FIGHT THE SEA for you. While my wounds are recovering.”
Falst whipping open the door as immediately soon as possible to make sure Kendal is ok and not poisoned is such a mood.
Kendal looks so soft and adorable with his floofly hair and poofy shirt
I want to know what is Dainix’s explosive soup made for? Like dainix what are you trying to make explode and should we be a little worried?
I have a sneaking suspicion that either Tess or Erin requested these “flash bangs”. Y’know, for the ✨FLAIR✨
I figured Dainix used them all up in the lab/caves fighting the Crawlers (and Glort), so he needs to restock. But Erin definitely might have requested a few if he learned what they are, having a quick easy source of a flash of light could be useful if he can’t touch his tattoos for some reason.
Sorry but as a rush fan I have to mention that we’re on page 2112!
Anonymous Aurora Question #44: How many people are still looking at mondays page?
You, too? That glorious wave!
“He’s trying to protect us, it’s the highest compliment a city god can give”
Says Kendal, someone with heavy ties to a protective city god.
Even if you are right, i’m still calling you biased.
ahhhhh the way that kendal looks into the gem makes me wanna hug him and sprite him away from all his troubles hgfmkbrl
also just the way that its the exact same color as his eyes fkemdlkfbn
Retroactive TL;DR: That god do be sus tho
Kendal looking like a lion in the last panel, the Floof is powerful here 🙂
