As we learned from last page, his name is Stefan. Now, the fun thing is, in Sweden Stefan is an extremely common name. There are thousands of middle-aged men named Stefan. So now I can’t not read him with a thick Swedish accent.
(It actually happens surprisingly often that English-speaking writers try to write fantasy-language and it just gets Scandinavian.)
I like that Swedish accent @Ongoing. It made be laugh to hear it in my head! Lots of reference to Tolkien all over the web @Thunderous … I think I saw that somewhere too. I know he was a teacher of languages but I can’t spell it!
Stefan and its many variants (Steven, Stephan, Esteban, Étienne…) is ultimately a Greek name, though. Etymologically means “crown”, which does make it a fitting name for a king-type character.
the fight with Tynan and the void dragon being unleashed in tat fight. eight turns ago is when Erin accidentally stopped the elemental storm and first was possessed by the void dragon.
Hmmmm… It’s a bit on the small side to be a primordial, or even the same type of being as Voidy… This is almost certainly not the Light Dragon’s true form, if it is truly the Void Dragon’s equal and opposite.
What I’m wondering about is why the light dragon and the void dragon weren’t as well known as the other primordials. Is there a specific reason, or were they just phased out of legends?
Keeps getting bitten by insects constantly, until the void dragon takes over and kills them all, ranting about the audacity of these worms thinking they could consume HIM, THE SOURCE OF ALL COMSUMPTION IN THE WORLD? Then someone wacks him and tells him to stop overreacting.
Either that, or the bugs that bite him find themselves being fed upon instead, withering to dust to Erin’s great discomfort, if you want to take it via a more scary route
Ok so that’s interesting. I’m starting to wonder this is a full kingdom in an alliance with the Paladins, as opposed to being a Paladin fort. The whole thing about the “bearer of my horns” sounds an awful lot like an alliance gesture where someone was given some symbolic Paladin artifcat. Plus, Crown of the Sept sounds more like a royal title than a job title, so maybe the sept is a kingdom and Stefan is its ruler? Finally, if this is a Paladin fort, I think the Lady would find it faster and easier to just send this via telepathy rather than give the poor guard a heart attack. So my new current theory is that this is probably some top secret alliance between the Paladins and some kingdom that is being
put into play, meaning that Stefan probably isn’t a full palafin
And starts with random details that make no sense, without the context, which has to be carefully drawn out of them bit by bit?
I love the idea that the Lady might actually be some sort of demigod that’s not very bright or completely sapient, and that’s why mainstream science assumes it doesn’t exist… and Lord Stefan here is essentially going to have to try to get a freaked-out toddler, armed with nuclear weapons, to explain a rather complex series of events that it may not completely understand.
I really doubt Red would characterize the Lady that way, but it would be utterly hilarious in a rather dark way…
You know, she’s being very cryptic. “Darkness in the desert”? Stefan would need to be a marvel of intuition to understand that warning without context. Like, “Okay you were in an arid region and the sun set. Can we get some more details about why you felt the need to fly eight days to tell me about it?”
Well, to be fair, she also said, “I could not see HIS face until tonight” (emphasis mine), so now Stefan at least knows she’s in some way concerned about a guy with he/him pronouns. And he can probably infer that “his face” was hidden BY the “darkness in the desert”, meaning it wasn’t just the normal darkness that comes with night b/c it lasted for 8 days straight. They are making baby, BABY steps towards actual communication!
And hey, at least she’s not as bad as Tahraim. Things could be worse as far as cryptic godly patrons go, is all I’m saying.
Theory: whether this is a paladin outpost or not, the glittering rocks are the type that block magic, and therefore telepathy, which is why a draconic messenger was necessary
They might not be. If soul energy is the white “paladin magic” they’ve been using, they’d actually be strengthened by it. But then, if that is the case, does soulcrystal block telepathy?
Oh man I had to go back and reread that chapter because I’m getting caught up and *completely forgot* about the fight between our favorite lightning user and this dragon.
damn, Tess should’ve punched that dragon way harder
Mister Paladin, sir, hear me now!
A darkness has risen in the desert somehow

That’s probably because Tolkien took influence from Finnish and North Germanic languages when creating his elvish languages
Yeah, I know. It’s just insanely funny whenever someone declares an ancient incantation and it’s just nonsense in Norwegian.
Also true in Polish!
It’s cause of tolkein. Tolkein was “inspired” by many names from norse mythology when writing LOTR, as red talked about somewhere but i forget where
It was from the Miscellaneous Myths episode where she first summarized the Poetic Edda.

For mobile readers.
Alt-text: damn feels like she’s been flying for nearly exactly four years

The storm drake’s flight began March 27, 2020 at 5:00 AM and ended on January 15, 2024 at 3:00 AM. It lasted 3 years, 9 months, 18 days, and 22 hours.
Tumblr text: every time I draw a dragon with their mouth open it’s always very ::V
Twitter text: lots of shouting on this one
Dang, it’s been that long already? Time flies when you’re making webcomics, I guess.
Great claws grip the stone
Lady Light brings a message
She has seen V.D.
What do you mean what happened tonight?
The battle against Tynan. https://comicaurora.com/aurora/1-18-26/
the fight with Tynan and the void dragon being unleashed in tat fight. eight turns ago is when Erin accidentally stopped the elemental storm and first was possessed by the void dragon.
I hope that is turns of moons’ phasing and not turns in D&D combat least! Make my eyes burn thinking about that!
Pretty sure she means solar turns, as in days. There’s no way it’s been 8 months in-universe. Kendal’s only like two weeks old.
Soooooo . . . The light dragon is a plausible theory? (*COUGH COUGH meaning that dragon No.3 is Light Dragon?)
LD vs VD is something I can’t wait for!
Hmmmm… It’s a bit on the small side to be a primordial, or even the same type of being as Voidy… This is almost certainly not the Light Dragon’s true form, if it is truly the Void Dragon’s equal and opposite.
She’s possessing a regular dragon that was in the area when Erin stopped the storm. 1-6-27
That’s how I interpreted it, as well, but their are ways to view it too.
What I’m wondering about is why the light dragon and the void dragon weren’t as well known as the other primordials. Is there a specific reason, or were they just phased out of legends?
Alright, keep your non-existent hair on.
Alright, keep your non-existent hair on
Oooh so now I am very curious about who exactly this guy is
The Fluff squads really collects antagonists without even trying, huh
Strength invites challenge? Wrong. Fluff invites challenge.
That dragon’s been flying for 8 days? Where did it go, once around the planet?
(I still think according to 1.7.33 that this place should be reasonably close to the Storm, which is also where this dragon was…)
Erin is in bug trouble.
Bugs crawling all over Erin. For some reason this is a hilarious and satisfying image.

He’s definitely not a Palafin. Not dolphin-y enough.

Why do I sudden hear Flipper (from TV show long ago{! (dolphin talking/calling sounds)
Did she already give Michael the update?
is this the kind of character that just speaks in capslock needlessly because that’d be very funny
And starts with random details that make no sense, without the context, which has to be carefully drawn out of them bit by bit?

Life and V.D talk like that too. I think it’s just the font Red uses for Primordials.

Yeah, I’m getting a strong “completely alien intelligence that sees reality very differently” kind of vibe, here.
She had a normal conversation with the champion in 1.7.33 though
My immediate first thought was the Phineas & Ferb “MOM HOLY F–K” meme fhdkjhfdskj
Theory: whether this is a paladin outpost or not, the glittering rocks are the type that block magic, and therefore telepathy, which is why a draconic messenger was necessary
Soulcrystal. That’s a good shout. Not sure why the Paladins would cut off their major advantage though.
They might not be. If soul energy is the white “paladin magic” they’ve been using, they’d actually be strengthened by it. But then, if that is the case, does soulcrystal block telepathy?
tonight was one year ago……..
I can’t help imagining the dragon as a small dog barking excitedly. Is that inaccurate in every way? Yes.
TL;DR: *INTERNAL SCREAMING*
Just realized this released on my birthday, cool I guess.
(I was very sick and did not check)
“Bearer of my horns” is an extremely cool way to refer to someone, wow
Oh man I had to go back and reread that chapter because I’m getting caught up and *completely forgot* about the fight between our favorite lightning user and this dragon.
