Today on aurora: Another priceless Erin face supplemented by yet another serious pensive Kendal face.
(Please appreciate the fact that my voice-to-text thinks their names are Aaron and candle)
One of the moons of this world has always been red, kind of like if Mars was shrunk and added as a second moon to Earth. Doesn’t necessarily mean that Ganon’s power is here. At least to our knowledge.
Kendal… Alinua… Erin…
Be on your guard.
Gold-Eyes power grows… It rises to its peak under the hour of the blood moon.
By its glow, the aimless spirits of chimerae slain in the name of floof return to flesh.
Floofy Squad… Please be careful.
It’s from Breath of the Wild, referring to a semi-regular event, the blood moon. On a night when the moon rises full, red, enlarged, and throwing off smoky red wisps, all the monsters that the protagonist (Link) has defeated are resurrected by a malevolent spirit at midnight, as the whole sky glows red, clouds move as if pushed by a hurricane, and ash and pink embers swirl through the windless air.
The lines are a paraphrase of what someone telepathically says to Link the first time he witnesses the blood moon after getting Aang-ed for a century.
Probably because the full speech only happens the first time you trigger a blood moon in a new game. Every time after that on the same file, she just says “The Blood Moon rises once again. Please, be careful Link.”
Okay, I know this is probably just a meme, but this semi-unfortunately isn’t a blood moon, just this world’s second moon, Sword, which is Stone’s sword that has been shifted by gravity into a rough sphere, just like the first moon, Shield, which is blue.
As someone who built a world with five moons, one of which ended up being geostationary, tide-locked, and appeared at least three times larger than the sun, I can sympathize.
Anyone else having a fear attack because of the awful nightmareish presence of this potential blood moon? (Please take note that, though I usually skipped the cutscene, the blood moon still revived the silver lynel I had just killed and narrowly escaped.)
“The blood moon rises once again…” -Zelda
Don’t worry, the chimera isn’t going to be revived by a malevolent spirit to start kicking ass in the forest again; Sword just looks so red because of its presumably high iron content (though, considering it was once a blade, it could also be made of bronze?)
And I will agree that the blood moon is the scariest thing in Breath of the Wild (for extra spookiness, view the blood moon from inside Typhlo Ruins)
It’s worse when you’re in a monster fort late game and manage to trigger the forced mob reset from killing a certain number of monsters without a blood moon *as the scheduled blood moon is seconds away from happening* and then dealing with the monsters you’re fighting respawning twice.
If I trigger a blood moon at a bad time, I usually yank out the Sheika Slate and warp elsewhere IMMEDIATELY! Especially since my preferred fighting style is anything but starting in the middle of a mob of angry enemies.
So… Falst is definitely actually trying to undo the ferin curse so that he can be a normal member of society, right? And hopefully Kendel is considering that instead of the “Vengeance will be be mine” angle?
Also, to twist a phrase like Falst twisted the chimaera, “A red moon rises. Blood will be spilt this night.”
Ooo, the diagram in the background shows the theory of the human(oid) body being made of 5 elements! (which is probably true given that we know the shadow dragon exists)
This moon is comprised of the fragmented remains of a mighty sword used to fight the void dragon so everyone could exist and you all see it as an evil omen? Really now.
Kendal is brooding a lot this chapter, though I can tell this is different from his dour look after revealing his nature to Erin. I don’t think he believes this story entirely, maybe due to his interaction with the Ferin in the woods.
I once made a dnd planescape that had the earth be “several times larger than Jupiter” have 3 suns, each faster than the other, 3 moons, and the gravity beyond massive. I had to lock down material plane travel so you couldn’t bring these behemoths to ebberon or some shit.
See may podcast bc I will do a world building ep soon!
If my f___ing volunteer editor would give me my damn audio….
ooh! its a red moon! wonder if it means something or if it is just there to look cool, which I dont mid
also dr. jolon is now on the charecter page
I guess I should probably add him to the TV Tropes page then
I think it’s just there to look cool
The reason the moon’s red is that, if I remember correctly, that’s just the color of that particular moon, and the other one’s blue
I think the red moon is Shield, but all I’m going on is my memory of what the Earth Primordial looked like when it charged the Void Dragon.

thats hilarious! in my head i cant think of kendell or erin without thinking their names are aaron and candle lol
“Ah yes, I like all the members of the squad equally; Alinua…” *looks at smudged handwriting on arm* “…Candle, and Aaron.”
It’s even worse with a Linda (Alinua). Case in point. Sometimes it calls her something like all in what.
A Blood Moon. All previous foes respawn!

That red moon looks great :3 Can wait for the team to meet Falst again ^^

*sick-ass bass drum beat followed by a cataclysmic low D piano note*
Is that a refrence I’m not getting?
Zelda’s speech during breath of the wild’s blood moon.

I’ve played BotW, I just forgot the speech
Probably because the full speech only happens the first time you trigger a blood moon in a new game. Every time after that on the same file, she just says “The Blood Moon rises once again. Please, be careful Link.”
Oh… well, I hope my description was at least fun to read
-Zelda

Ooh the moon in the chapter cover page. What might it be capable of?
Why hello there, Sword. You’re looking bright tonight
Anyone else having a fear attack because of the awful nightmareish presence of this potential blood moon? (Please take note that, though I usually skipped the cutscene, the blood moon still revived the silver lynel I had just killed and narrowly escaped.)

Correction: turns out that’s not what happens with the blood moons and it’s possible to have more consecutively.
But anyways, it’s still harsh when you’re hard work falls apart before your eyes…
If I trigger a blood moon at a bad time, I usually yank out the Sheika Slate and warp elsewhere IMMEDIATELY! Especially since my preferred fighting style is anything but starting in the middle of a mob of angry enemies.
I don’t blame you, I do the same…(though the hero isn’t supposed to cower! but I cower ;-;)
Kendal is thinking, a lot, I think he is suspicious of this whole situation, at least I find this highly suspicious
Why do I feel like this is the start of some kind of blood sacrifice?
Kendal: Well, maybe my forest-deity buddy could help….
like he just talked to the god of the forest, they are searching the forest . try to keep up Erin
Oh, no. Blood moons are NEVER a good thing.
The reason the moon’s red is that, if I remember correctly, that’s just the color of that particular moon, and the other one’s blue
Unfortunately, not a blood moon
all the monsters rise and go fight Kendal
who knows maybe they’ll do an dragon rush?
They probably won’t see any dragons until the last few minutes though…
FALSE! They’ve already found one dragon (much to Erin’s dismay)
So… Falst is definitely actually trying to undo the ferin curse so that he can be a normal member of society, right? And hopefully Kendel is considering that instead of the “Vengeance will be be mine” angle?

Stuff like THIS is why seeing a red-from-wildfire Sun in real life reads like a bad omen!
Right? And then everything gets covered in a smoky haze, like “So it begins…”
This moon is comprised of the fragmented remains of a mighty sword used to fight the void dragon so everyone could exist and you all see it as an evil omen? Really now.

Yes, I love this place
TL;DR: Thanks to DR. J, the Floofcrew will search a slightly less vague location instead of a vague location. Floofy boi wants to get Lionboi.
… He’s not waiting until tomorrow, is he? -.-

Alt text: why yes, I did put a lot of work into calculating lunar orbits and then make the moon’s size on the page “however big I want it to be”
Why is there only one moon??
Pokemon: sword blue, shield red
Aurora: shield blue, sword red
I wonder if the red moon means something
