why you mad, bro? it’s like you got some painful associations with this kinda monster or something?
why you mad, bro? it’s like you got some painful associations with this kinda monster or something?
Erin’s face is like “whaaaat”?
Also, why Kendal isn’t covered in blood in the last panel? (Both the blondie and the sword)
By design. Vash doesn’t look like a sort of god that would spend a lot of time washing himself or polishing his sword. He probably designed both his body and sword so he wouldn’t have to do much (if any) cleaning of those.
I just assumed that he moved faster than the blood. You can see it only just hitting the ground in front of him post-dodge. Same goes for the sword. I think I remember there being a whole Japanese sword art about stabbing someone so fast that you don’t need to clean your sword after.
Not a realistic strategy for a mortal. Fortunately, Kendal is probably not that.
Kendal spends so much time being cute and fluffy and just such a nice guy, that up until the third panel I kinda forgot that he could probably tear most people in half if he had the inclination to do so.
Oh boy. That’s a Murder Face. Kendal even lost the light accents in his eyes in the last panel. That’s the look of a man about to wreck shop.
“Skiddddd” love that soundeffect… but Kendal looks really mad!
Hm. I don’t think Alinua’s on board with destroying every beast that crosses their path. To be honest, I’m not sure where I stand on it either.
Meanwhile Erin looks SHOOKEN.
To me, she looks surprised that Kendal can do this without getting moderately injured.
I suspect Erin has been done a bamboozle because the idea that he is in no way necessary to the resolution of any given crisis kind of runs in opposition to his personal brand.
Hey Erin, remember all those times that Alinua dropped hints the size of buildings that Kendall wasn’t exactly normal? All those times she said “Hey, maybe ask him what his deal is”? Yeah…
And now you’re completely flat-footed and stunned by the fact that he’s successfully 1v1ing a chimera the size of an inn. Good job, Mr. Genius.
His Pompous Nitwit-ness strikes again!
God, I love Erin’s face in the last panel. And Kendal’s Vash vibe has suddenly doubled with a quippy one-liner bonus.
Erin makes the best faces
I would be confused at Kendal’s bad-assness here if I hadn’t just reviewed the first 10 or so entries and was reminded of how Vash reduced an army of those monstrosities.
Of course, Kendal isn’t Vash, and doesn’t have the belief of a City behind him, but I guess the muscle memory remains. 8)
“Because (Aurora) loves creating characters who are quiet and shy and really self-conscious… and then can W R E C K S H O P on the battlefield.”
I noticed something in the last page… This chimera, despite (likely) not being created by The Collector, still has glowing green eyes like her chimeras do. It makes me wonder if their eyes glow green do to all the life energy inside them, leftover from when a mage transformed them so drastically?
Due* to, not do to
Very well could be.
Granted, we don’t know how much life energy is needed to create/mutate something into a chimera, but I imagine it being a lot for a monster this size.
Did anyone else notice how Kendal’s eye in the third panel matches color exactly with the color of the stone in his sword? Not to mention they share a name, and the resident wild god of these parts kinda alluded to them being one and the same?
Or am I just reaching
Read the lore page on “Vash’s Sword”, those connections aren’t coincidental
Hey hey! About that….is Kendal probably a sword spirit? Like Ghiraim and Fi on Skyward Sword?
I think they are connected, although I don’t think they are as related as that. I do definitely think that the sword has something to do with Kendal acquiring a soul.
Kendal is definitely meatier than a spirit; sword spirits are explicitly magical beings (i.e. made of magic energy), whereas Kendal’s body is approximately similar to a human’s, just incredibly more durable. It’s just his soul that appears connected to the sword.
Check the extra lore on Vash’s sword.
Hey Varda? Where are you?
Maybe they’re busy with something else? I’m sure they’re fine
Yeah… Now that I think about it she’s probably composing her music…
Ooh, she makes music too? I wonder what for
Not sure what ‘what for’ means, but it’s mostly Tolkien-inspired songs right now, I’ll probably start a YouTube channel soon.
I have been composing, and also listening to Nightwish music and picking up yet another language. And drawing meself a logo.
The reason I’ve been absent is because I read the comments on this page, realized I agreed with pretty much all of them, and, instead of just saying so, I threw up my hands and went “Oh wEll I have No idEA wHAt to dO”.
Ah, I asked what for because I also compose music, but for a video game I plan on making (hence my username). I almost never get a chance to speak to another composer, so I got curious
That’s really cool, what media do you use? I compose on my piano, and also a capella on an editing program.
And I totally want to see that game when it comes out.
I use a Digital Audio Workstation (DAW) called Tracktion 7, along with a couple of virtual instrument packs: LABS and Sketch Orchestra (if I remembered the latter’s name correctly). All three of them are free, if you’re interested.
(By the way, the working title for my game is currently Telmarra: Civil War; I’m still in the conceptualization phase, working out all the characters, plot, worldbuilding, features, and music, so it’s going to be at least a few years before I release it)
SCHRIPP
Now I’m imagining Vash doing research to find extremely blood-phobic materials to build his body out of. Yuck. It’s like hydrophobic plastics research but for gods and vampires.
Two weeks later
‘Is this going to be much longer?’
That’s the look of a Kendal with serious issues to resolve and an Erin stunned by his abilities.
Methinks his priority of asking what Kendal’s deal is has bumped up a few notches.
TL;DR: Vashn’t takes out his trauma on the knockoff chimera, because he can’t stand plagiarism.
Kendal is letting out his inner shonun protagonist, i love the fight scenes in this, they’re so well done.

The beast’s paw torn, ’cause he is really strong
Calmly asserts: “This won’t take long.”
