Kendal’s Vash-senses aren’t tingling so it should be fine 😀 … probably. Rough time for Kendal. No time to unpack,,, AAAALLL that though, it’s ominous crack sound time.
It’s… an EXTREMELY loaded statement that can be interpreted a number of ways, and I legitimately don’t have the time to fully break it down based on Kendal’s history, but the short of what I’m thinking is: Kendal places a great deal of responsibility and weight on himself to ensure the lives of others, as we see in chapters 2 and 3 with Alinua pre-soul explosion. He can’t stand to do nothing when he sees someone in distress, and in true paragon fashion, WILL go as far to sacrifice his own body if it’ll save someone else.
However, Kendal knows how powerful the Collector is; she kidnapped Vash, she killed THOUSANDS of people to do it– and Vash was powerless against her. Kendal says on the previous page that he “doesn’t know if [he] WANTS [the chimera issue] to be her,” and I think that factors into what he means when he says “I won’t have to watch anyone die.” It’s him grappling with how they’re not strong enough to fight her right now.
Kendal has very deeply internalized the deaths of the people of Vash, and resolved that he would never let anyone else die, especially not for him and his cause. The Collector killed all his people, and Vash, *Kendal*, as we see his identity gets a lil fuzzy around the time of his creation could only stand by and watch, powerless. But if it ISN’T the Collector, then Kendal WON’T have to be powerless. Kendal DOESN’T have to watch anyone die, because if it isn’t the Collector, he can fight. Kendal phrases it as an absolute, that he WON’T watch anyone die, because he’s taken it upon himself to never let it happen due to what happened with Vash. As long as he isn’t powerless, he won’t let anyone die, and the Collector is the ultimate threat to that resolve.
That, of course, is how I’m interpreting it, but I certainly could be wrong or have a differing view from someone else. Like I said, loaded statement.
You raise an interesting point. Considering both the cover art of this chapter and Kendal’s discussion with Gliecann, I think it’s fair to say that this chapter is going to be a big one in terms of more fully looking into Kendal and his feelings (read as sweet sweet angst) on this whole situation. So far alot of this comic has been a main focus on the floof squad’s actions in dealing with new situations. Come to think of it, apart from that one time, we really haven’t seen a lot of Kendal’s inner monologue in this whole thing.
On a deeper level, it might also relate to a worry that he can’t protect Erin and Alinua for the Collector. And if he can’t protect them, then they’ll probably die.
This will most likely culminate in a “I have to do this alone” moment, followed by a fight that Kendal will lose and have to be saved from. (Assuming that Red is following the tropes, which, given her genre-savviness, she might not be 😛 )
Although there’s also the argument that Kendal is like Vash’s incarnation/body, even when he had Vash’s actual soul, so he was technically there, just not yet conscious. It’s… complicated. And I don’t want to think about it.
I just noticed, compared to Erin, Alinua and Kendal’s eyes are visibly brighter; they’re noticeably more vibrant in color. A neat little detail, given their connection to the gods/mysterious entities
Nope! It has no connection whatsoever (sorry, I usually try to be relevant), I just figured we’re all (or at least mostly) OSP fans here. Hence you guys being one of my primary places for OSP-ish excitement. Great excitement was had.
Okay; I’m just thinking that we should keep discussions of OSP videos on their channel, unless a video is relevant to this story (like when Aurora characters are seen in Trope Talks). It cuts down on confusion
I believe that Alinua is connected to the Life Primordial that fought the Void Dragon before the dawn of history.
I also think that the people who were the centers of the Chimeric Plague were earlier attempts by that entity to communicate with a mortal, but that it was pushing too much power through the link resulting in the random bouts of chimeric transformation that led to tragedy. I think it has finally calibrated the amount of power it can safely send through the link to allow Alinua to use its power without trigerring random chimeric transformation and to allow it to communicate with her. If that is the case, then the people who threw her out were not exactly wrong about her being connecte to the Chimeric Plague, but she is not actually the danger they feared her to be.
Hooded guy is surprised too? I guess it is chimeras causing the trouble and not him.
That glance between Erin and Alinua though, wonder what level of therapy Aurora has.
Yeah “Crack” is rarely a good sound effect, even when used against the villains. It could be positive, maybe the “Crack” could be in a prison cell to allow the main hero to escape.
I feel like this guy who is watching them is going to be like one of my characters(my favourite) (the character has a bunch of expositions dumps and is savage and push the mc to new heights and makes the team and the story a happier place and I just love writing him and he forces everyone to face his fears)
one of these days, something’s gonna go “CRACK” and it’ll be a GOOD thing, and you’ll all feel sorry for assuming. probably…
(That’s all that shows up on my tablet, can’t tell if there’s more or if it really ends with the dots. If there’s more, could someone else please post it? Thanks!)

im not getting any good feelings about that massive cracking sound…
Erin and Alinua: gasp, what could this be! we had better get ready! Kendal: Sword!
Kendal’s Vash-senses aren’t tingling so it should be fine 😀 … probably. Rough time for Kendal. No time to unpack,,, AAAALLL that though, it’s ominous crack sound time.
I think Chimera Mom might have taken some inspiration from Vash’s sentinels, Kendal…
Also I’m feeling stupid right now but I don’t understand what he means with “I won’t have to watch anyone die”?

It’s probably related to how the last time Kendal faced the Collector, she massacred his entire city in front of him and he couldn’t do anything.
On a deeper level, it might also relate to a worry that he can’t protect Erin and Alinua for the Collector. And if he can’t protect them, then they’ll probably die.

Well… apologies for the pedantry, but technically it wasn’t Kendal who faced The Collector back then
That’s fair.
Although there’s also the argument that Kendal is like Vash’s incarnation/body, even when he had Vash’s actual soul, so he was technically there, just not yet conscious. It’s… complicated. And I don’t want to think about it.
Thanks everyone for the insightful replies 😀
Caught in a land-slide,
No escape from your destiny.
oh, shocked floofes :3
[John Mulaney voice] “Now we don’t have time to unpack AALLL of THAT”
SENTINEL: ROUND 2
I just noticed, compared to Erin, Alinua and Kendal’s eyes are visibly brighter; they’re noticeably more vibrant in color. A neat little detail, given their connection to the gods/mysterious entities
Going off that… notice how Falst’s eyes are also… kinda glowy?
Even spooky person is spooked…
Well, hopefully this time Kendal won’t get seriously injured
I love how Kendal says “I won’t have to watch anyone die.” and Alinua and Erin just… look at each other.
And can I just fangirl about Blue’s Colonial India video?
I mean, LISTEN. TO. THOSE. BEAUTIFUL. PRONUNCIATIONS.
Maybe that’s a bit self-congratulatory (If you look in the description you’ll see what I mean wink wink), but I’m still so proud of Blue!
…Does it have something to do with this panel? (I’m not scolding, I’m just failing to see a connection between his video and this story)
Nope! It has no connection whatsoever (sorry, I usually try to be relevant), I just figured we’re all (or at least mostly) OSP fans here. Hence you guys being one of my primary places for OSP-ish excitement. Great excitement was had.

Good idea (even if I don’t, you know, comment on YouTube…), I agree with your point about confusion.
I look forward to the positive *CRACK* day. In the meantime, shifty eyes are always funny. >.> <.<
I guess Erin will never get a chance to ask Kendal what he is.
Eh, probably just the wind. XD
I think the narrator has been reading Skin Deep lately. THAT’s where the “CRACK” is going to be a good thing.
damn when even tree nonce is suprised it must be a bad thing
Boss Fight time? Boss Fight time.

well, you know what they say about assuming, it makes an ass out of u and ming
TL;DR: Floofy boi confirms that this is a Chimera mum ripoff. Floofcrew has to deal with it, but something lightning-y happens.

Caught in a side quest, no escape from the mystery!
