Some times it takes the server a long time to update information. Don’t forget that the Moderators have to vet your comment before it gets posted. Patience is not a virtue but a necessity in dealing computers for the most part (except video games of course).
Comments aren’t vetted (most of mine show up instantly).
Comments posted right after the page updates have a higher tendency of getting eaten by the server, but will very often mysteriously appear fully intact & as if they had posted, hours later.
Sometimes comments after that don’t post either, but again, I don’t think I’ve had a comment fully vanish on me. If it doesn’t post or disappears, dw about it- and don’t repost it.
Also, this is my first page since catching up. Now begins the regularly-scheduled update dance. At least this one updates way more often than all the other webcomics I read.
AWWWWWWWWW
OMN that’s so sweet!
And Alinua’s face on panel three is so perfect – this is absolutely the floofy boost I need on a Monday morning before school 😊
“When someone is willing to do something for you then its better to say thank you than sorry” are wise words to live by, though its alot easier said than done.
Anonymous Aurora Question #33: 1: THIS IS SOO FLOOFY. FLOOG HUG!!! FLOOF HUG!!! 2: If the floof squad had to found a resistance movement against some evil government, what would each of them do to sneakily gain information/fight of people/doe something else?
1: AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA see my comment below
2:
– Erin hacks the computers and finds the maps
– Alinua masterminds the plan with help from Erin and Dainix
– Falst sneaks in and unlocks things to let the others in
– Tess distracts the guards while the others proceed
– Kendal fights through any guards they can’t distract
– Falst crawls through the vents
– Dainix waits outside the vents with Kendal in case Falst needs help or smth
– Alinua and Erin stay at the base and talk to the other four with earpieces giving them info and instructions
I just feel like Erin would have to ramrod the operation. Falst would be in charge of clandestine affairs and Tess would be recruitment. Alunia would be keeping Erin from doing something too stupid, Danix would play enforcer, and Kendal would play clutch for whoever needed backup.
Going off those old annoying but endearing movie tropes, Erin would have to “hack the mainframe/firewall/server” or “bypass the database” or something similarly nonsensical, and Tess would be like “English please”.
Hmmmmmmm. This one made me really think for a sec. Top quality brain nourishment right here.
Erin is the computer-hacker man who somehow has all the info they need with almost no notice. Is it fully legal? No. Do they care? Also no.
Falst is the sneaky one who steals the important IRL stuff, the get in get out quickly type, but still always ends up stealthily kicking some butt.
Tess is the big friendly terrifying distraction who makes a big show of her dissatisfaction with the government but never gets caught.
Alinua is the mastermind. She makes the plan, Stan, but she’s never afraid to be the entire backup cavalry all on her own.
Dainix would be recon, or even a spy if need be. He tries to stay out of active combat because his powers are so destructive.
Kendal… that’s a toughie. I dunno if this is a hot take, but I feel like he’d help Alinua with the planning, being more on the political side of the issue than the beat stuff up side. He would still assist Alinua with the backup though if it came to it.
Which, knowing the other members of their team, it would. A lot.
I’m trying to think about this in terms of established Aurora lore and worldbuilding, so just go with me:
Kendal is the Martyr. As the symbolic figurehead of the Resistance, he has a seat on the council, even if he’s not exactly the Leader. He’s lost as much as anyone to the regime, but it’s his resilience and compassion that inspires the Resistance to fight for a better tomorrow.
Alinua is the Doctor. Being the most well-respected person in the Resistance gives her major influence at council decisions. People trust her because her priority is always to save their lives. She knows everyone’s name because everyone’s needed her help at some point.
Dainix is the Tactician. Someone has to focus on the fight itself, and it’s Dainix. He directs the Resistance’s activities against the government, running everything from ambushes to rescues. It’s a huge responsibility, but he always has to have a plan or people begin to feel lost.
Tess is the Liaison. Whatever it is the Resistance needs, she knows someone. Sure, most of her contacts hold a grudge against her for breaking something of theirs in the past (promises, bones, etc.) but she’s friendly enough to help them see past that.
Erin’s the Benefactor. He uses his social mobility to feed information to the Resistance from the upper echelon of society through the Liaison. No-one knows who he is or why he sympathises with their cause except Tess, but they do know that he’s never wrong.
Falst is the Scout. He’s not usually at home base, preferring to work alone in the oppressed society. He fights the government on the ground, helping people in a pinch and sending them the right way. He’s looking for something or someone that can help fight back.
Veggiesnake, that’s a fascinating read and a fascinating concept. Did you come up with those role concepts just from history, or have they been codified before?
Thank you, but I certainly can’t take credit for codifying them. After millenia of storytelling amongst a species adapted for pattern recognition, I’d be surprised if there are any archetypes that remained un-codified. Most of these were drawn from characters in other media that I can equate to Aurora characters in a Resistance-type plot.
For example, Alinua’s role as ‘Doctor’ was inspired by Abby Griffin of The 100, Chief Medical Officer on a space station containing the remaining known human population. As CMO, she had a seat on the council and was shown to be especially compassionate compared to other council members, often bending the rules for what she believed was right and getting away with it because she was basically the best medic the station had left. They couldn’t afford to lose her.
The problem with codifying like this is that it runs into some narrative contradiction. For example, I imagined that Kendal, Alinua, and Dainix would have “seats on the council” because their roles were partially inspired by characters in similar leadership positions. But after thinking about it more, it’s somewhat ironic for a Resistance group to have a council at all. Sure, once it grows big enough it would need to enforce some sort of organisation or structure, but at first it would probably be a scrappy group of refugees and criminals making decisions by group consensus. Just something I think is important to remember.
It’s a strange occasion where bringing up V.D. actually lightens the mood.
Kendal was born from death and had the souls of the dead on his mind since chapter 2; it’s frankly understandable why he had such a view of himself for much of the story. He needed to live a little, bond with others, and get closure from the citizens to get out of that funk. Doesn’t mean he’ll stop being a self-sacrificing hero though.
Yes, thank you Alinua. Were it not for her breaking her self-imposed exile in the vain hope of helping Vash’s people, Kendal would have died there and then. She, and many others, owe her for directly or indirectly saving their lives and buying the world time to deal with V.D. and the Collector. She’s one of those heroes who’s list of feats on paper makes her seem more in control than she is.
(rereads) … Yeah, probably. I just automatically assume any mention of dragon gods to be referring to V.D., but from his dialogue and looking back on why he did the sword stab in the first place, he’s more likely talking about Tynan.
I would say @Ashkemena is just asking for clearing up context sake for us readers. Clearly Alinua knew what Kendal was speaking of. That is a good question to ask/request about @Ash! Honest questions are always good to bring up (within reason).
I start to understand the complexity of hanging out with Fotini & Daphne, I read the last Fitz where he becomes the Wolf of the West, I read about Bee and her scars, I um love how My psychiatrist glows I um have a resting bitch face that emphasizes my cheekbones much like Daphne but I not try understand different fo daf they sisters I imprint they and I go long way on Theodora’s then they marry nice men who are approved of by the women of the heartache so I not issues. All I know is I love my brother in laws we different but thats fine. I would love to meet Dr Basu in a non professional setting, I agree to her terms I am quite the dumpster fire.
I love the depth of care here and the long, long hug. It also feels like we’re winding down, closing out the talk, and getting pretty close to the end of the arc!
this is too heavy for a monday morning red. i’m not ready to be emotionally destroyed over these two.
something about two people learning to live and character developing their way into having actual self-worth for their existence is too much for me. hoo boy.
Something that I like about this, is that it’s an embrace between two people of different sexes, and it *isn’t* romantically charged. It is SO difficult to find stories where a woman and a man can just be friends without them having to fall in love, or that intimacy and emotional comfort can be shared without the expectation of a kiss or other stuff like that.
And I just REALLY like that. It’s nice to see people be able to embrace like this, and not have the story wiggle its proverbial eyebrows at the reader.
I agree. I’m a widow, and it’s annoying to realize that all my life I’ve assumed that opposite sex friendships must be charged. I would instead like to have friends to talk to about stuff, without trying to get into anyone’s life that way. I appreciate the friendship shown in D&D Honor Among Thieves. There’s commitment to help and encourage each other without getting mushy.
Honor Among Thieves does it incredibly well. They’re co-parents, but they aren’t in love. That is a dynamic rarer than most any I’ve seen in any fiction ever. And it’s so nice to see, too. There’s love, obviously, but it’s not romantic. Familial, like siblings.
I know everyone else is already saying this, but:
AUUUUUUUUUGGGGGGHHHHHHHHHHHH
IT’S TOO CUTE
I CAN’T HANDLE IT YOU GUYS I JUST CAN’T
THE SWEETNESS OF THEIR FRIENDSHIP IS GIVING ME DIABETES WTH
There’s a part of me that’s amused that because it may have attached systems to try and gather context and/or alert a human controller if it’s caught, but it would need an easy string – say, its own username – to check for in order to make such protocols work, a proper response is the somewhat eldritch “Speak Not Its Name!”
Also, though, I’ve been meaning to say, I never expected the Psychic Torture Slime to be an expert-level Boss Fite. The whole caves arc came out of nowhere, and suddenly there’s this thing they can’t defeat!
Also, can we talk about Kendal carefully putting down the sword, panel by panel? That’s the kind of thing I keep messing up when I write stories, I wish I could just show it like this, without interrupting the dialogue
In laughs, in tears, they share a smile
And Kendal hasn’t thanked her in a while
For mobile readers.

They’re deeply in love your honor
Objection! Relationship unclearly expressed, your Honor!
So deeply it goes beyond romance, into sheer platonic love!
I concur.
I concur with your concurrence!
I concur with the concurrence of the concurrence!
Deeply in platonic love :]

As in the chapter (and the arc!) is almost over?! I’m not ready!
I’m so normal about these two
You gotta squeeze out the character development like you’re juicing an orange
I know it’s been said alot, but WHY CAN’T I LIKE COMMENTS?!

Hmm, the sky is looking a bit less dark. I think we might be about to see dawn.
Is kendal glowing
Oh my the god, this is making my insides crack open and glow like a baby soulfire. I just… I love it.
Kudos, Red. Hats off to you.
Awawwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww!!!!
Hm. I think a hug like that would fix me.
Ugh. The bot is back. I’m gonna suggest we don’t interact with it and hope it goes away.

wasnt the evil dragon god litterally like a day ago in universe though?

Aw 🙁
When the fuck did he became the mature one of the group?
